Unlock bootloader not possible anymore? - Huawei P40 Pro Questions & Answers

Hello,
in the store they told me huawei isnt giving unlock codes anymore so i cant unlock my bootloader?
Is this correct?
For me i need unlock/root/custom roms etc, is there anybody who can give the correct answer on this?
I know i can get GMS installed but i need root, so i can use different apps, like modded whatsapp
Like i said, really looking forward to this device, i am a frequent xiaomi user but want to switch now
Theres a local discount here in my country and ends at wednesday 23:59
So hope for fast and correct answer/solution
Thanks

There is no current way of unlocking the bootloader. No one has managed to generate any working keys so you may as well give up now waiting. There is no sign that Huawei will reverse their decision.

Unlock Bootloader BKL-L04

I cannot get the bootloader unlock code from Huawei. When I fill out the phone info form I get the error "SN and IMEI are mismatched." I've tried both IMEI1 and IMEI2.
Is this because it is the US version? Is there another way to unlock the bootloader?
I am having the same issue. I am very disappointed that they would lock the bootloader on a non-carrier branded phone. I am unable to port certain app data without root which is making it very hard for me to justify keeping the phone vs returning it and going with another brand where root is obtainable.
I'm getting the same error. I emailed them last night about it and just got a reply a little bit ago. They told me that Huawei USA does not provide bootloader unlock codes. Since they're apparently refusing to provide codes for the US version, does anyone know another way to get one?

I doubt that it will work and will ultimately result in a bricked device. Per the FunkyHuawei website:
"Warning: EMUI 8.1 devices are not yet supported. EMUI 8.0 and below only for now."
There is also a warning about the USA version of the Mate 10 (Different phone but same idea) and trying to re-brand to another region.
Rebranding it is not possible (It's an EMUI 8.1 device) and will not help.
I'm highly ticked over this, I'd never bought this phone if I'd known you couldn't unlock it and root it!!!

I am right there with you. I keep trying different departments at Huawei in the hopes someone will provide the bootloader unlock code. I wish the OnePlus 5T (8GB/128GB) was still available b/c I would return this phone and get that one instead. I only bought this one b/c that one was no longer being sold and this phone seemed like the next best choice. They need to have a disclaimer on their store site if they don't intend to allow unlocking for a specific region regardless if they present the option upon logging into my account with them.
That is b/c you didn't register your country as United States. I know this b/c of the URL of the website you used to log into. If you had, you would have been prompted to be redirected to a different site as it won't let you log into that specific URL if you registered with United States. I attempted to register with a different country using another e-mail account but since I already attempted using both IMEI numbers under my United States account it was logged as being not allowed already.
This is Huaweis official reply to this problem!

Does emui allow booting with encryption disabled? As i understand it currently, official twrp is the only one working right now for the US model but can't decrypt data. Trying to decide if i should just cancel my order as nothing seems to be supporting the US version very much

Root/Rebrand/Unbrick/Update - Official FunkyHuawei Thread for P20 Pro

This is the official FunkyHuawei support thread.
FunkyHuawei is a (mostly) paid service which allows you to do the following:
1. Install the latest system software, even before it's released by OTA.
2. Install beta/prerelease system software, without needing to be a beta tester.
3. Recover a bricked phone.
4. Rebranding / Change the region of your phone (China -> Europe, for example, to get Google and so on.)
5. Enabling dual-sim features on single-sim phones.
6. Root your EMUI 8 phone, even with stock recovery (This feature is free)
--NOTE: SOME OF THESE FEATURES NOT AVAILABLE ON P20 SERIES YET. SEE NEXT POST--
You do not need to unlock your bootloader, or void your warranty to use the service. (except the free rooting feature)
To find FunkyHuawei, please Google it. Or you can find a link to the service as well as our rebranding tool within the following XDA Portal article.
https://www.xda-developers.com/exclusive-att-huawei-mate-10-pro-firmware/
We are pleased to announce FHUnbrickFlashTool -- You can now repair any recent Huawei phone via fastboot, even if you cannot access eRecovery or boot the phone! Even if it doesn't show the Huawei logo, as long as you can get a fastboot connection to your computer, you can recover the phone! Google FHUnbrickFlashTool or check FunkyHuawei's reddit for details.
In cooperation with XDA, FunkyHuawei is offering a free credit to Recognized Developers and Recognized Contributers on XDA.
Please PM me for more details.
We will continue posting in this thread with updates regarding new software versions and releases regarding this device.
We will also be monitoring it so we can help anyone who has issues.
FunkyHuawei, due to popular request, is now offering an unlimited pass. You can break your phone all you want, and turn to FunkyHuawei to unbrick it however many times you need to. You can also install all the latest updates, beta versions, and so on, without worrying about spending credits. You can check out more details on FH's reddit or homepage.
For device-specific information, please see the next post.
Please be sure to read the terms of service as well as the instructions very thoroughly before using the tools, to understand the potential risks of using them.
FunkyHuawei can now offer bootloader unlock codes for all Huawei models (including recent models like P20, P20 Pro, Honor Play, and so on.)
These unlock codes can be provided for free to customers who purchase an unlimited pass from today.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How much does FunkyHuawei cost?
A: You need to buy credits on the FunkyHuawei website. The price per credit varies depending on the number of credits you buy. Different operations cost different amounts of credits. However, the Root feature of the Mate 10 tool is free, and as mentioned above, Recognized Developers/Contributors of XDA can ask for a free credit.
Q: My phone is bootloader locked, and FRP locked. My bootloader unlock code dosen't work. It won't boot. eRecovery doesn't work. Can you help?
A: Yes. With the Mate 10 this is now a common situation. Contact FunkyHuawei for help in this situation. We'll need to access your computer remotely and the procedure is a little bit complicated, but the phone can be unbricked.
Q: I can't get my bootloader unlock code/don't want to unlock my bootloader, but I want to change my phone to something other than Chinese. Can you help?
A: Yes. Our new FunkyHuawei Rebrand Tool works on recent Huawei phones (Sorry EMUI 8.1 phones not yet supported. Coming soon), to rebrand them to another region even when the bootloader is locked.
Q: I'm not seeing the latest version listed on FunkyHuawei or elsewhere as an OTA. Why not?
A: Huawei has a very odd and unpredictable way of rolling out OTA updates. You can use FunkyHuawei to install the new version immediately, or can wait for the update to be rolled out. It might be a month or more after release until the update reaches your device from Huawei directly. We have no idea why.
Q: Why isn't FunkyHuawei free?
A: Because many of FunkyHuawei's features cost FunkyHuawei money to provide. Features that don't cost FunkyHuawei money to provide, like rooting the Mate 10 or our TWRP build for Mate 9/Oreo, for example, are generally made available for free. There are also bills to pay, kids to put through school, and so on.
Q: I noticed FunkyHuawei in an XDA Portal article!
A: FunkyHuawei loves XDA, and is cooperating with them as much as possible. Recognized Developers and Contributors on the XDA forums are welcome to claim a free credit from FunkyHuawei as well.
Q: I have a different question.
A: This is what this thread is for! Post away!

Yes. But it's possible the phone has an internal secondary IMEI which it simply doesn't show on the settings. We haven't had a way of figuring out exactly how it works IMEI-wise, but both sims do work. It's been this way for generations of Huawei phones.

Huawei P20 Pro 6/64 CLT-AL01

Hello everyone
I got my Huawei P20 Pro 6/64 CLT-AC01 today in the mail.
It is locked to Chinese region, and doesn't has any of the gapps installed.
I looked for several hours through the forum and on Google today, and I can't find any way to flash a different region ROM to it (often referred to as Debranding)
Also, I read that Huawei canceled the option to unlock the bootloader - I tried it on several ways today and got to a 404 on the unlock page.
Could someone tell me how do I change the region of the device to a normal international one?
Thanks! Can't wait to start using this beautiful device.
Your last option might be funkyhuawei

Yours is uncommon one indeed. 90-99% P20 Pro out there is 6/128GB, yet you have 6/64
I talked to Huawei support in 3 countries.
They refuse to supply me with an unlock code and it looks like i'm stuck with this device
You probably got either a early test device or a fake one.

It's the Chinese P20 Pro is normal to have 64GB...
I was in the same situation, same model of phone, two weeks ago but I had luck getting the unlock code the last day. When the unlocked bootloader I could debrand the phone following the guide in this forum. As they won't give the unlock code, your only option is funky or dc-unlocker when they support the phone. Also I found an indian guy that maybe could do it, his webpage is called ministry of solutions . But I don't know if it is reliable.
Good luck

EU rom questions

ToneLa said:
It's not only the best phone I've ever used, I think it's clearly far & away the best in class for a phone today and I genuinely want it to raise bars for what's possible with the hardware. As a package, it's remarkable. Best in class overall & in many areas.
I just love it. Nothing is a disappointment. Getting on the xiaomi.eu ROM negated the ill effects of importing a deGoogled phone. It's reliable, charges in ludicrously quick time, is a fantastic camera, seems unofficially pretty splashproof. Feels good, looks good, sounds good, works with everything

based on official, but not official. They do updates over the air normally but not til TWRP is ready. They're a solid group, used them before when I had a Mi 9. From a readme:

trust them.
Get yourself on to the EU ROM. I know it's going to take a week to get unlocked but it's well worth while. The EU ROM makes this a superb phone and I've come from a Huawei P40 Pro plus that photographically may be better but there is not much in it. I just love this phone now. Got a couple of cases coming and a better screen cover protector.

Ok is there a way back to getting the phone "locked" again on stock rom if i want to return ?
Why do you want it locked again? The EU ROM shows no security issues, it passed every test.
On the Chinese ROM, I couldn't use my Sky Q as it said it wasn't secure and that was before flashing. Now I can use it. Is there a reason you need it locked?
You can flash the Chinese stock ROM if you do want. I have done to test but come back to the EU version. If you need a link to the stock let me know, I did put instructions on the Xiaomi forum but can copy it here.

I mean if i want to return it to default to be able to sell it. Also 2 questions, does the windows way work or not because i read there's issues in the bat file and only linux works. I dont have access to a linux machine currently. 2nd question, when twrp is ready, until then we will have to flash ourselves until twrp is ready to be able to do OTA?
We've found a fix for the windows method which involves swapping out the fastboot. It's all there in the thread for it, I promise...this is for overall love
And if you may sell it, unless you are going to sell to a Chinese person, I think they will appreciate not having to do the change from the Chinese version.
There are warnings about relocking and the possibility of bricking but you can always flash the stock Chinese version again like I did to test it and then back to EU ROM. Unlocking will bind your Mi account to you phones hardware but this can be swapped to another user if you sell.

What are the benefits of EU Rom? I have removed all bloat on China ROM and it's doing fine. Just having and issue of high power consumption of Google Play Services and mdnsd.
See attached screenshots. Plus battery lasts longer, no issues with notification and it reports it's fully secure. For me, it refused to run skyq as the app said it was not secure. Using the EU ROM, it's happy. Have a look at the attached.
How long does Xiaomi normally support their devices? How many "Major" android upgrades do the provide? Like from 10 to 11? And if we went through the EU Rom route will they provide updates for longer?

Oh well, is your bootloader is locked?
I guess they gonna take up some time and might come with an app to install the widevine certificate.

Nope. I believe they use Breeno. Try changing your region now. It is possible now. I just change my chinese rom to Indian and got all google services working.

Oh, I see. I'm still thinking about changing to Indian rom because of the early updates on Chinese, but I want google services too so...

It depends on your need. But as for the updates, it will eventually comes for every region. You cannot wait chinese rom to be implemented with google services on the other hand. Unless you want to install it manually but I really don't suggest it. It breaks notifications as of my case and other couple things too.
As for the widevine, I am not sure. Someone said that every device have different ID (can check DRM Info) which bound to specific widevine level. so changing region does not effect the widevine. I am still waiting for realme's reply.
