Deleted photos - Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) Questions & Answers

Hello everyone,
My fiancee has an A8 and we are close to upgrading, but her memory was running low so she decided to go into phone clean up mode just to get us to the upgrade.
She normally just deletes old photos (I have tried explaining the cloud to her, but not yet...) but this time she found herself in the files section of the phone. She deleted something in the files that then deleted all her photos. Now, when we go to trash as she normally would to restore those photos, it shows 1300+ photos and 8 vids are in the trash, but they are all greyed out with an i button. When we click restore, it says they were successfully restored but are nowhere to be found.
I suspect what is happening is she deleted a folder, and when we restore the photos they disappear because that folder path cannot be found anymore? Any thoughts?
See attached picture of here trash bin.

Any help is appreciated. She is convinced they are all gone, but I am more hopeful!

Is it safe to clear folder \Application Data\Windows Live\Tiles ?

I've noticed this folder stores peoples msn avatars when I'm using Live Messenger...

I've also noticed the folder is growing very fast... I added a .jpg extension to a few of the files to check them out and I saw many old avatars that people used months ago, apparently when a person changes his/her avatar Live Messenger just leaves the old one in the Tiles folder.
I think thats a stupid mistake on a device with relatively limited internal storage space like a ppc / smartphone...
Since I've not checked out every file in the folder I wonder if it's safe to completely delete all files to clear some space. Will it also clear my contacts photos in the phonebook?

[Q] Where are all these zero-length randomly-named files on my sdcard coming from?

I unlocked my phone and reformatted the sdcard a couple of weeks ago. I just noticed that I have nearly 1,200 zero-length files in the root of the sdcard with what look like randomly generated filenames - here is an example: fde2bd40-e3d1-4d4f-9db9-ca21e043d0ae. What is generating these empty files and why aren't they being cleaned up by whatever is creating them? Has anyone else run into this? The filenames all have the same pattern with hyphens after the same number of numbers and letters.

On the internal storage, there are three zero-length files with the same type of random filenames with the same pattern.
No replies, so I wanted to follow up for others. I ended up just deleting them all. I still have no idea where they came from - maybe titanium backup or some other program's temp files. I haven't had it happen again yet.
I have the same issue... I have no idea what's causing it, but when I try to delete all of them, they return within a day or so. Is there an application that causes these? Is it a phone leak? I have a Moto G XT1045.

Can I delete this temp folder?

Hi all
I've analysed my data partition and there's about 5gb of temporary files allocated to data/local/.drm

Is it safe to delete the temp files as that's a lot of space given my device has only 16gb internal and the color os doesn't allow app to SD transfer?
Thanks

Yes
I had the same problem. My oppo sometimes, totally randomly, mostly when it's plugged in, goes in a writing spree and creates these huge files in the /data/local/.Drm folder, up to choking the phone into freezing and preventing it from starting again. Luckily I had the teamwin recovery and I could free up some space to let it start again.
Anyway, I have this problem regularly. I just delete all those files or the entire folder and the phone is back to normal, no loss or no other collateral effect. I can't understand if it's a virus/malware that I have our anything else

Android 5.0.1 / Rooted / Issues

Hi,
I recently put android 5.0.1 on my Note 3, rooted it, and deleted much of the bloat with titanium backup. It has come to my attention that I probably deleted an important process/package without knowing (of its importance) and didn't back it up. Is there a way I can get the package back without redoing the whole phone?
The process android.process.media (the phone will say that this process unfortunately stopped working whenever I plug the phone into the computer. Also, here and there Touchwiz will stop working. Seems to happen when I visit certain parts of the settings. Lastly when I go to the gallery it's "frozen", I have plenty of pictures on the phone accessible through the file manager but gallery won't update/recognize any of it.)
Help would be appreciated.

dl QS rom and extract from system /app or /priv-app what you need...
Thanks for your help but I gave up on it.

Question File handling issues

Hello,
I recently tried to export a WhatsApp conversation to Gmail (on my Poco X3 Pro, latest MIUI 12.5.1), and I'm getting very weird results.
On the export window, I do not see a text file, but a random code-like name.

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
When Gmail is started, I get an error saying "Unable to attach file"
When working with Gmail and composing any email, any file I'm trying to attach fails. I simply cannot attach anything.
I have checked permissions for each app, everything seems to be in order. I even tried doing a factory defaults on the phone, did not fix the issues.
I also noticed small things like Google Photos showing notifications for memories, but upon clicks, I only see a blank screen, or videos I shot with the phone being shown as pictures and no playback buttons.
Anybody else encounter these? Any ideas how to fix them?
