tips: A lot of users are saying that Google is crashing, so I want to say that it works in Google beta only
[url]https://drive.google.com/file/d/18p5OvPdRCVkqhrH4FswiOtACsbREX9bj/view?usp=drivesdk[/URL]

Your instructions are not clear. I have watched the video and I couldn't hear a thing. If you could louder your voice, we would be able to get it. Good work though.

The new UI appears but 1 major issue; Google app crach everytime I want to make a google search by tappimg the bottom search pill on Pixel Launcher. It also crashes inside Google app too.

0.1 Before replacing/modifying/deleting/uninstalling anything, I strongly advise that you make a backup of the original should anything go wrong. You have been warned!
0.2 This is not a Recovery Zip, it's meant for you to get only what you need. All you need is ROOT.
1. Something is not working / It keeps telling me that I have to update Google Play Services:
This means that you haven't installed PrebuiltGmsCore.apk that's included in this package. It's a newer version of Google Play Services that's required for several of the apps to work. I highly recommend installing it before installing anything else.
2. Google Search / Google Now keeps crashing:
You must copy the following file from the included /system/lib folder to /system/lib in your device:
Code:
libgoogle_recognizer_jni_l.so
.
Make sure that permissions are set to 644.
You'll need a file explorer app with root features. I personally use File Explorer with the Root Addon as it makes it extra easy to move things around since it has a dual panel feature and also allows you to change permissions.
Also, for the launcher to work properly, you need at least the following installed, in this order:
Code:
Google Play Services - PrebuiltGmsCore.apk
Google Search - Velvet.apk
Google Home - GoogleHome.apk
3. Ok Google Feature doesn't seem to work:
First, make sure you've done all the above steps to ensure that everything else for the Launcher/Google now is working.
Then, from the homescreen:
Menu > Settings > Voice > Offline Speech Recognition > Update if possible or Uninstall and Re-install the English (US) file.
4. Photosphere is not working in the camera app:
You must copy the following files from the included /system/lib folder to /system/lib in your device:
Code:
libjni_filtershow_filters.so
libjni_mosaic.so
liblightcycle.so
Make sure that permissions are set to 644 on all those files.
You'll need a file explorer app with root features. I personally use File Explorer with the Root Addon as it makes it extra easy to move things around since it has a dual panel feature and also allows you to change permissions.
5.Google Hangouts force closes when video calling:
You must copy the following file from the included /system/lib folder to /system/lib in your device:
Code:
libvideochat_jni.so
Make sure that permissions are set to 644 on all that file.
You'll need a file explorer app with root features. I personally use File Explorer with the Root Addon as it makes it extra easy to move things around since it has a dual panel feature and also allows you to change permissions.
6. I cannot install Maps.apk:
You'll have to uninstall your current Maps in order to be able to install the new one. I'm not sure why it is that this is the only app that cannot be updated, but that seems to be the case. I suggest backing up the original APK first with an app such as Titanium Backup and then uninstall Maps, also using Titanium Backup. Once uninstalled, proceed to uninstall the new APK and all should be fine. You may have to restart the device after uninstalling the old Maps, though I personally didn't have to.
7. How do I make the launcher icons smaller?
In order to make them smaller you have to use Xposed Framework + Xposed App Settings to lower the DPI on the launcher.
You can get the latest Xposed Framework HERE. If you don't know what Xposed Framework is, please take a look at this post HERE.
Follow the instructions in the link above to get Xposed Framework installed. Once everything is done, open Xposed Framework go to Downloads and install App Settings.
After done installing, go back to Xposed Framework > Modules, and enable App Settings.
Reboot your Device.
Once Done rebooting, open App Settings and select Google Seach (the blue icon) Thanks to bakercj for clarifying this one.
Turn it on and change the DPI
400 DPI = 6 icons in the dock and App Drawer Grid 5x6
320 DPI = 7 icons in the dock and App Drawer Grid 6x7
Make sure to tell it to save, and then go back to the home screen. If it didn't take effect, reboot your device.
8. How do I add more home screens?
Home screens are added automatically when you try to add a widget/shortcut and slide your finger to the right of the screen while holding the new content.
9. Google Now does not show up when I swipe left on the launcher:
Press menu in the launcher's homescreen > Go to Settings > Enable Google Now.
Look at the screenshots for more guidance.
10. Google Chrome doesn't work properly:
You must copy the following file from the included /system/lib folder to /system/lib in your device:
Code:
libchromeview.so
Make sure that permissions are set to 644 on all that file.
You'll need a file explorer app with root features. I personally use File Explorer with the Root Addon as it makes it extra easy to move things around since it has a dual panel feature and also allows you to change permissions.

Any screeny of the calendar widget? Thats the only thing I always found ugly, if they changed the look that is.

Is there any way to just shrink the icons in the drawer grid? I don't want 6 or 7 icons in my dock.
Hey,
Nice post.
But where can i find the new kitkat phone apk?
Or the rest of the updated files?
Thanks
I'm not sure what it is, but after trying this, my Google Play Services keeps force closing and doesn't appear to keep it's updated status after I reboot the phone.

Not as far as I know, once you change the DPI for the Google Search it will change for everything in the entire launcher, and since the launcher itself doesn't have an option for changing it I don't think it's possible without hacking the app, which is beyond my knowledge.

You must've done something wrong. It's the first time I heard of anything like this happening.
I fixed it by reinstalling my ROM, then installing the Google Framework, then search, then Google Home. After copying the files to system/lib, I changed the permissions to 644.
I changed DPI to 420 and now its perfect, 5 icons in dock,5 icons in drawer

No problem, I was having to go all over the place to get all the stuff, so once I had everything, I figured why not put it all in once place so others don't have to waste a whole lot of time like I did.

I could be wrong, but I thought the first time I launched the Google Camera it told me that an external storage had been found and asked if I wanted to save stuff there. I could be wrong though. You are right about Quick Office though, it only gives you option to load from Google Cloud / Internal Storage.

[PX5] Is there a way to install Google Assistant?

Is there a way to install google assistant and use it instead of google now.
I hate how google now works. Anything you say it just searches it. And for navigation/calls it takes like 5 secs to initiate the command.
I tried updating to the latest Google Play services, Google using APKMirror. I also tried installing Google Assistant Enabler from xposed. But when I say (Ok, Google) it opens Google Now and not Google Assistant.
Thanks.
Using a Dasita HA PX5 unit.
I'm also interested in this. I'm on Nougat, but when I try to run Google Assistant, it say it doesn't meet the requirements. I have the latest version of the Google App and Google Play Services, but I think the issue is the resolution. It has a min requirement of 720p, and the device is 1024x768. Does anyone know if changing the DPI setting will get around that? Or if there's any other way to make it think it meets that requirement?
Were you able to have it work when you ran it manually? Did you have to use the Xposed module to get it to work?
I attempted to uninstall the Google App via uninstall in TitaniumBackup with the hopes to install the APK from the app store since some forums I found they said reinstalling it after removing it got it working (I was thinking that before I realized the resolution wasn't high enough), but apparently that caused a boot loop. Now every time it boots up, it says updating apps, and takes ages to go 1-54 some apps, then it reboots again and starts over. So I guess I'll have to flash it again
So I figured it out. If you have the latest Google App, then you have Assistant installed. The Assistant app in the store is just a shortcut to pull up the assistant via a icon, it also tells you if your device can support it if not. If you say "ok google" and the Assistant doesn't load, it's because Assistant doesn't meet the requirements.
I installed Easy DPI Changer and set the resolution to 1280x720. Then I had to reboot, not for the resolution to take affect, that happens just fine right away, but Google App isn't aware of the change till you reboot. After reboot I said "ok google" and up popped the assistant instead!
Everything on the screen got a tiny bit smaller with the resolution change, but only issue now is the status bar icons and height are too small. This makes it difficult to tap the back button (no other hw button for that) and hard to swipe down for the menu properly. I tried playing with the DPI settings. I was able to find a DPI setting that made everything else the same size it was before the resolution change, but it seems that the status bar isn't effected by the DPI change at all. So it doesn't matter how big I make everything, I still have a tiny status bar. I'm running the Malaysk rom.
I looked all over the app store, can't find anything that will increase the status bar height. I think there's a way that involves decompiling the SystmUI.apk, but an app that would do that would allow changing of the resolution and/or DPI on the fly much more easily.
I've tried to change screen resolution to 1280x720 too and reboot, but I'm still getting Google Now and not Assistant (Assistant was released a week ago here in Italy, and is working fine on my smartphone).

Once I changed the resolution the ''Google Assistant" app stopped saying it wasn't compatible and just said I had to update google to the latest version and linked me to the app store.
I'm currently running Malaysk rom, I don't think that should make a difference. Get the Google Assistant app and see what error it gives you. All it basically does is let you know if it's supported, or launches assistant if it's already installed and supported. Beyond that I don't know what to suggest, it was a clean install of Malaysk followed by Easy DPI Changer, reboot, update of google. Then it just worked.

Thanks. I can'y find any "Google Assistant" app on Google Play, anyway I have the latest Google app installed...
I've been able to use Google Assistant in this way:
1) I changed the resolution using the "Resolution Changer Pro" app (https://apkpure.com/resolution-changer-pro/com.nexter.miniscaler). I set the 1280x800 resolution, with DPI 280.
3) I restarted the system
2) I installed the Google Assistant apk (https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/googl...assistant-0-1-174051423-android-apk-download/)
Once you have done these simple steps you will have the Assistant icon. With this icon you can start Google Assistant.
Once you have set the voice command, you will be able to call Google Assistant saying "Ok Google".
I hope I was helpful.
Bye !!
Thank you apollo1976, it works !
But, is there parameters that we could set to preserve aspect ratio of the MTCD ? I tried 1280 * 750 but google assistant is replaced by google now.
Does it require a 1280/800 ratio ?
Thank you anyway for your solution !

Hello,
I'm glad to know that Google Assistant also works for you.
Sincerely, I only tried the 1280 x 800 resolution, but theoretically the Google Assistant should work with every resolution above 1280 x 720.
The strange thing is that the only way to recall Google Assistant is through the Assistant icon or using the voice with OK Google.
If you try to click on the microphone in Google's main app, Google Now is launched and not Google Assistant.
However, the difference between 1280 x 800 and 1280 x 750 is really minimal and is not visible on the screen.
Okay I got google assistant working with 1365x800 resolution, which is fullscreen (no black margins). Interface is a smaller than 1024x600 but still completely useable.

Perfect, other useful information for anyone who wants to use Google Assistant
Ok, so installing Google Assistant apk and changing screen resolution, it's working.
I'm using 1228x720 resolution. It's working, same aspect ratio than default and not too small.
I've also set screen dpi to 260, icons size a little bigger than default (my launcher let me change that) and also system font size bigger (110/120%) using a specific app. I'm quite happy with the result!
The only problem, as already reported, is that the only way to recall G Assistant is through the Assistant icon or using the voice with OK Google. If I press the steering wheel button associated to the "mic" function, it still starts the old Google Now. Haven't find a workaround for that...

I got it to work by using mtcdtools : first i set my voice control button to something that doesnt launch voice control (like, set it to be AMS or something like that) and then use MTCDtools to bind that to launch the assistant app.

Thank you! I never used that app (never needed), but it works. :good:
Not perfectly ( if the assistant screen is already opened and I press the button, it closes and then it opens again empty, when it should remain opened and just wait for another command), but better than nothing...
I think maybe instead of launching the app we need to bind a specific intent to it. That way we can continue conversations
I thought that too, I'll do some testing when I'll have time...

I've tried something, but with no luck.
Maybe because I don't understand well how to set up intents in MTCDtools...
Any news from you?
Think this is now enabled with google allowing it for tablets..got the notification today. But my build.prop is set to phone.
I cant instalk easy dpi changer because i am not rooted.
Is there a fix for the non rooted to get this feature?
Update 2018!! ROOT NEEDED
Hi everyone!,
I'm new to XDA but I'm really tech minded and always willing to learn. I found the perfect setup for people who wants google assitant with original resolution and dpi and with the modified SOFIA-SERVER.apk I've made, you'll be able to open google assistant straight from your steering wheel button ready to talk! It'll replace the src function and get google assistant working instead.
1) So first you will need to install my modified SOFIA-SERVER.apk https://drive.google.com/open?id=1ySGT5_QkA_usu7Rsxl7BZKLxGnckiipn
2) Install a file manager with root access ( es file explorer, root browser etc...)
3) Open the downloaded file manager, copy the modified apk, go to root>system>app>Sofia-1-C9-Server-V1.0 folder and paste it (overwrite or rename the old one if you want it back to default)
4) Restart head unit
5) Install Google assistant from here (DON'T OPEN AFTER INSTALL) (https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google...-apk-download/)
6) Change the resolution using the "Resolution Changer Pro" app (https://apkpure.com/resolution-chang...ter.miniscaler). Set resolution to 1280x800 and change DPI to 280 then click enable.
7) Reboot
8) Open google assistant and it should be working (via the app not the steering wheel button !)
9) Once confirmed it's working, open Resolution changer pro and on the top right corner click on the 3 dots and click reset.
10) The DPI should still look weird as but personally, to put it back to normal I used joying extra tools.apk to reset dpi to 160 but you can try changing it in resolution changer pro as well.
11) Reboot and.... Done! You should now have Google assistant working with normal resolution and dpi but also be able to use your steering wheel button to open it.
ENJOY!

Launch Google Assistant with HOME button on stock MIUI8/MIUI9 without ROOT

First of all,
Follow this xda-developers guide to enable Google Assistant - Click Here or continue reading.
If you fail to set your Google Assistant working, make sure two things
1. You're using this version
Google App 7.4.21.21.arm64 (nodpi) (Android 5.0+) - Download Here
2. You have Nova Launcher ( Okay, we only need this once to set up and after then your stock MIUI launcher or any other launcher is fine. )
Follow this quote from the above article -
1. Find an empty spot on your home screen and long-press to add something new.
2.Tap on “Widgets.”
3. Under “Nova Launcher” tap and hold “Activities” and drag it to your home screen.
4. Scroll down and find the “Google App.”
5. Tap on it to expand it, and select com.google.android.apps.gsa.staticplugins.opa.hq.OpaHqActivity.
6. This will add a new “Google Assistant” icon to your home screen which is a shortcut to this activity. Tap on this icon.
7. You’ll now find yourself within the new Assistant “explore” screen where Google categorizes available integrations, how to use them, and quick access to make custom shortcuts.
8. Swipe over to the “Your Stuff” tab up top.
9. Tap on “Add Reminder” to trigger Google Assistant. What this action does is launch the activity com.google.android.apps.gsa.staticplugins.opa.OpaActivity – which normally can’t be accessed on your unrooted device.
You’ll now be taken through the hotword setup process. Teach it to recognize your voice, and you’re done! Now you can access Google Assistant by saying “OK Google!”

I've already provided the link of original article
Now when your Assistant is ready, How to launch it by long pressing home button?
Here it goes,
1. Download this Google Assistant.apk and install it
( It only supports on Marshmallow+ ROMs but I've tweaked it to work on Lolliipop too)
2. open and if it asks you to update your google app, update it from play store
3. Now open Assistant app and it should launch google assistant.
4. Now Download Button remapper(no root) from play store : Here
and set long press home button to ( other.. > app> Assistant (You just installed) )
Now check if it's working.
( You can uninstall Nova Launcher now)
Benefits you have now:
1. Your google app is always latest. You're not stuck to June version anymore in order to use Assistant
2. You get to use latest Assistant features
3. You use Assistant in a way no less than devices having Android 6.0 or more.
Cheers!!!
Hit thanks if helped
It says google assistant requires android 6.0 or above.
I tried with the apk given (Google App 7.4.21.21.arm64 ) but then the activity in nova launcher doesn't open.
Google Assistant is now supported on Android Lollipop also. Update you Google app and it should automatically appear. The above guide isn't needed anymore.

[GUIDE] [ROOT] Stock Android Look for Samsung Experience (TW) ROMs on S7 Flat/Edge

There's always the argument "If you wanted stock Android, why didn't you get yourself a Pixel or another device running stock Android?" We won't go in there. Everyone has a reason.
I'm going to show you how you can make your Samsung Experience ROM look and work like as close to stock Android as possible, without having to flash a broken AOSP ROM. With all due respect to the Developers, let's face it. None of the AOSP ROM's are daily driver material IMHO. You may disagree and that is totally fine.
For this, we're going to need a few apps:
- Magisk
- Google Framework Magisk Module
- Ruthless Pixel Launcher
- Material Notification Shade
- Google Dialer App
- Google Contacts App
- Pixel IP (Icon Pack)
- Pixel Live Wallpaper XDA Thread (Optional)
These are the essential apps. If you want, you can replace most Samsung Apps with Google Apps. This could include the Calendar App, Clock App and many other Apps Samsung feels the need to duplicate.
1. Root your device with Magisk. This'll install Magisk Manager on your device. There are countless guides on how to do this.
2. Open Magisk Manager, and from the Sidebar, got to Downloads. Here, search for and install the Google Framework Magisk Module.
3. Reboot after the module is installed.
4. Clear cache and data of your Play Store. Alternatively, wait a couple minutes to hours.
5. Now, practically all Google Apps will now be shown as compatible with your Samsung S7 Flat/Edge. But be careful. There are reasons why some apps are not compatible.
6. Search for and install the Google Dialer and Contacts app.
7. Go to Setting>Apps>3 Dot Menu> and set Google Dialer as your default contacts and phone app.
8. Search and install Material Notification Shade. Optionally buy the pro version via IAP.
9. Go to Settings>Themes And Wallpapers.
10. Search, install and apply "Pixel" Theme by "MINU".
11. Install Ruthless Pixel Launcher.
This should do it now. I hope you're gonna enjoy it as much as I do.
