[Q] Restoring Call Logs now FCs on the Dialer

Hello guys,
Tried to restore with my backup pro call logs and sms from my ex-S4 to the Nexus 5. SMS restore didn't work probably because the new Hangout app, call logs restore went trough, but now I get FCs from the dialer when accessing history.
Tried to stop the Google Dialer app, erase its data and cache, but didn't work. Used a couple of apps to erase call history (they did erase it tough), but still get FCs if trying to access call history...
Any idea???? Thanks!!

[Q] Google Notifications

My wife's Nexus 5 had recently stopped notifying her of Hangouts Messages and GMail messages. I have tried numerous things including complete wipe of data/cache and install of factory image 5.0.1 (LRX22C). Even after wipe and installation of the factory image using fastboot/adb, the phone still does not notify. Hangouts will notify when SMS messages come in, but actual Hangouts messages do not notify. GMail notifies for emails coming in on an Exchange account, but actual GMail messages do not notify. What can I possibly do if full wipe and reload without any sort of backup does not fix the issue?

Multiple messages

When I send a text message on my new j7, the receiver receives two or three copies of the same message. What's up?

This all depends on what type of mobile you and your friend are using. Android mobiles are normally the main suspect with this type of issue.
Antivirus can be scanning outgoing message and sending them twice! If you have an anti-virus app or security type app installed, uninstall it or go to the app settings then disable it and see if that helps.
Android by default has a google app installed called 'hangouts' that has been known to cause messaging issues in the past. Even if you don't use the app! It can still cause issues related to the messaging services such as duplicate message being sent. To solve this issue goto app manager and clear the cache / data from the "hangouts" app and restart the mobile by turning it off and back on again. If the app is not there do not worry!
If you are using any third party text messaging app try using the default one instead…!

Or make sure you have pick the third party app as your default and turn off notifications in the stock app.
I use chomp sms (for text) and hangouts (for Craigslist and messaging family through their various non-phone devices) and never had any issue.
Sometimes the settings for your sms gateway is incorrect or your carrier is the issue.

RCS Messaging app alternative?

I am having problems with Google Messages where I can't enable the chat features (it get's stuck at 'Excuse the wait...'). So I am curious if there are other messaging applications that support RCS. I tried a search but all I got are SMS/MMS apps.
I'm getting the same issues
I never got mine to work either, anyone else?

Messaging app problems

Have been using Textra as a messaging app for years. With new Pixel 4a I discovered I was not receiving all messages sent from others to me using Textra. Out of curiosity I enabled google's messaging app and suddenly all of my messages came through. Can anyone enlighten me as to why this might be?
I personally don't care for google's philosophy and don't want a "Chat" app. Just want to send and receive messages with occasional pix like I have been doing for years.
When you installed Textra, Android should have prompted you if you want textra to be your new default sms/text messaging app. If not, try uninstalling it and re-enable google messaging, then reinstall textra.
If that still doesn't work then maybe this might...
I think google's built-in messaging has it's "chat" features enabled by default, which I think configure your cell companies network for it in a particular way ("Advanced messaging mode").
So, after uninstalling textra and re-enabling google's messaging, try to then go into google's messaging app settings and disable all "chat" features - so what you are trying to do it configure it as a "simple" text messaging app, which would then tell your cell phone companies network to switch to "simple" mode.
So, now when you install textra and replace google's messaging app, your network will then hopefully work 100% with textra in the "simple" mode.
I think what might be happening is that when your originally replaced google's app with textra, textra didn't know how to reconfigure your cell phone companies network back to the "simple" mode.

Thanks John. I did as you suggested including multiple reboots while uninstalling and reinstalling, and it now seems to work as I want it to.
Thanks for your assistance.
If anyone is still having issues with not receiving text messages on time, I suggest going to Settings>System>Advanced>Reset Options>Reset WiFi, mobile, & Bluetooth. Follow through to completion with on-screen commands and this may do the trick to settling your texting issues with the Pixel 4a.
