The phone has no service, displays "plugged in, won't charge", and as soon as I unplug the charger in any manor the phone powers down but not due to a lack of battery life. The phone takes a charge just fine while turned off.
I discovered a work around for this issue, I restart into the Bootloader and press start and for some reason the phone functions normally as far as I can tell at least until it's reset. I get service, it charges, and it doesn't shut off when unplugged.
My best guess is it's stuck in some sort of Demo/Factory mode. I have an app that I'm unsure if is normal to see called "CQATest". Any ideas on what could be going on here?
Bit of background: Got the phone off ebay from here "ebay.com/itm/254489827106" I've done a factory reset, tried restarting the phone both in and out of fastboot (oem unlocked/locked). I've spoke with Motorola and can replace it under warranty, however I would rather just fix it.
Try flashing stock firmware first.

If you want to see "CQATest" mode, just reboot phone into fastboot, choose the menu to boot in to "CQATest"

Well the thing is..i've been using my HTC ONE S for a while now...
Then after a while i tried to root my phone via recovery.
I unlocked the bootloader successfully since when i boot on bootloader my phone said on the top of the screen "UNLOCKED".
Then when i tried to get to recovery...it was stuck on entering recovery..nothing happened.
Installed CWM v6 touch and non-touch same results.
I was going to try TWRP but i went to bed.
Next morning during the day my phone ran out of battery. i mean 0%
i tried to turn it on when i leave it on the charger like an hour.
after an hour the pone didnt boot up..it just dead.
the pc doesnt recognize it at all...the charger makes a "bip" everytime i plug in the phone the led blinks a couple of times before fade again
tried hard/soft reset, tried to put it on bootloader, pressed Vol - and Power button, i keep em pressed for like a minute and nothing happened.
It doesnt show up a Qualcomm dispositive. i mean is not bricked, i never installed a custom ROM/RUU/
he worked like a charm the entired day before ran out of battery.
Tried to replug the battery nothing happened same results.
Sometimes when i tryed to only press the power button the screen flash a bit and then dies.
At the end i let the phone the entire night charging(more than 12hours)
Same results......
my phone doesnt have warranty....

Run the OEM RUU first ( you need to know what network the phone is locked too and choose the matching RUU, should you have a few options to choose from then choose the highest number or latest version, if it's unlocked choose the HTC RUU again the latest or highest definition).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2094414
If all else fails ...
Send it back to HTC service centre. Best outcome they'll repair it for free, worst outcome they will tell you how much it'll cost to be repaired and if you choose not to repair then you have to pay P&P for device to be returned. The choice is yours!
Hope that helps.

When you mean you tried to replug the battery, does it mean you were able to open the casing of your oneS? It seems your problem is you have a bad battery, or else your battery is dead.

yeah i was able to open the phone, the battery is connected via pin to the motherboard (i though it was solder to the main base)
I'm going to try to charge the battery with an external charger, then plug in to the phone and see what happens.
Is all because of a bug on CWM....TWRP the best!

yes, as I can recall on the battery pin, you'll just have to connect the red and black pin to an external power supply, good luck mate! you can do it! :highfive:
Just received today my brand new OPO from OnePlus, buyed it with invite, it came from LONDON-HEATHROW - UK.
The phone immediately powers down after boot. It displays the "Power off, Shutting Down" message, but simply refuses to actually let me into the OS.
I've tried:
- Full factory reset (all wipes)
- Reinstalling rom with fastboot (30O) AND with simple recovery sideload (25R)
- Formatting again
- Different cable, Different charger
- Without SIM card, with SIM card (with and without sim deck)
- With cable, without cable
- Boot cycle (+30secs power button)
The battery is at ~35%, But battery does NOT charge. Tried with different chargers and cables, over an hour but it doesn't charge at all. Screen turns on when "charging" and shows battery icon with percentage. And plug is all way in.
Have made a ticket to OnePlus but i dont think i get answer in half a month.
It will stay alive if I hang in Recovery and in Fastboot. It will stay on in that all day. The minute I boot into the OS it shuts down.
Edit: Found out that someone has same problem with nexus5.

On video same thing as me. I haven't rooted device.
Anybody have any ideas?
Very disappointed because waited this day 2 months and then i can't even try the software. Phone feels and looks good. But its too expensive to only be a paperweight.
Did you unlock your bootloader and flash a custom recovery before you tried to flash a rom?

yes i did.
Also tried the boot cycle (at least 30sec power button) with no luck.
I think its a hardware issue... Replacing is good way..

okay, i try to get logcat from boot. First issue is that usb debugging is off by default. So i found a way to change this ON with TWRP, and adb and sqlite3.
Changed adb_enabled value from /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db to 1.
And
Added persist.service.adb.enable=1 to /system/build.prop
Next problem is that when i turn phone on, it boots normally, and when it has booted up it shows on back: Allow USB debugging? And buttons Cancel and OK, but i can't press those because of that stupid Power off. Shutting down... window.
Any solution how to confirm usb debugging?

I suggest you do an RMA ASAP or you'll be screwed. I was having issues with my device not the same as yours and 3 emails after never got a response from OnePlus so I contacted Paypal. I'm sure they'll reply back that way, good luck.

Hi there, my google nexus 5 has completely dead. Yesterday i was using my phone and it shutdown itself. Now i'm not able to charge or turn on the phone. No bootloop, no logo, no sound, nothing... If i connect the phone to pc windows is not able to recognize the hardware, no windows sound, no bootloop on the phone, no life signal. There is any way to fix the problem? Thanks
Try opening the phone, disconnect the battery for a few minutes, reconnect battery, connect to a charger and look for a flashing red led. Don't try to turn on the phone during this process.
I opened the phone, when i connect a charger i can hear something like an imperceptible click noise... and the logic board become hot:crying:
I had this issue recently. The phone was not turning on like you mentioned.
I was able to enter recovery mode (hold power + volume down for few seconds)
Once in recovery I wiped cache. Now the phone turns on.
I still get sudden restarts with heavy use. But at least the phone turns on now.
I took the phone to a phone repair kiosk. He told me he had 3 customers complaining of similar issues with their Nexus 5 and that he was unable to fix it.
I'm with Rogers, latest firmware, stock, locked bootloader.

one day we will discover google has been killing older phones with updates once pixel was released, lel. jkjk
I just talked to LG Customer service. He told me the whole logic board needs to be replaced. Which would set me back $150+tax and downgrade my storage to 16Gb. No thanks.
I was hoping for a workaround, like installing a custom kernel with specific settings.
I have already tried factory reset, switching to LineageOS, removing sim card. Nothing helped.
Underclocking with Elemental X Kernel seems to be the best workaround so far.
Hello,
I am quite familar with samsung devices and flashing etc. but my friends phone died today I suppose. At some point it got stuck and got into a bootloop. After some reboots it tried to find a ota update.zip, but there was none. After some tries I got into download mode, but flashing a stock image (was stock before as well, never seen root or something) did help at first (it booted, we backupped some stuff) but at some point it got stuck into bootloop again.
This time, when going into recovery, it tried flashing a firmware again, however this ended badly (freeze while flashing). Now it's not even charging anymore. Not a single button combination is working (force reboot, recovery, download mode, ...) and when plugging into a power bank, it doesn't even charge anymore (power bank shows if a device is charging). So it's completely back and unnoticed by odin, adb or fastboot. Does anyone know this problem or have an idea, what we could try? My last idea would be to test a wireless charger, which i sadly do not have at hand.
Thanks!

If it's not showing any signs of life and will not charge then it's a hardware problem, you should start with the obvious like the usb connector. You are going to have to open the phone and check usb connection, battery connection etc. but it may be easier to take to repair shop.

but when it died the first time, i was able to flash the stock image; after it rebooted, it was charging perfectly fine until it died again. from that point on, i was not able to get any sign of life anymore... maybe something crashed that badly and it's still running and i have to wait for the battery to completely drain, so it can do something again? or is the charging process completely hardware dependent, so a crash shouldnt do anything?

the way to test if it has power but blank screen is to hold power+volume down+home. If it has power it will turn off and boot into download mode
After the Forst Crash all such combinations didnt Seen to work either. Once odin recognized is while having a black screen. At that point I flashed stock :/ but still, not even the led was showing something
ive tried holding the power and the power+vol down buttons for well over a minute i let it charge for over an hour but it wont turn on.
its got the latest lineage os on it with magisk.
Does it have any indicator at all of life? USB presence? Charging indicator? If not, the battery may have fallen so low that the charge circuit can't detect its presence and therefore you can't charge it. I once rescued a Nexus 4 from this state by hooking 5v directly to the battery for a few seconds until it had enough power to be detected and start charging.

First off Happy Holidays,
Second I am truly sorry for your situation.
Plug the device into a PC and try to power up?
I get that people like to install custom software but on a brand new device with vanilla Android I really don't understand why?
Why run the risk of voiding your warranty and running into a situation that you can't get out of? It is possible that the software you installed is part of the problem.
Maybe there is a way you can reinstall Google's android through a PC and see if it will boot up.
Google Pixel - Update and Software Repair
I get people don't love all of Google's services but you did buy a Pixel.
I hope the OP can figure out a way to get his device up and running again.

meaning the phone wont turn on at all. i plug it in with a known working cable in my computer and type in fastboot devices.

When you plug it up, do you get a chime on your computer?
no
Did you try a different charger?
yes
found out what was wrong. mobo died had to send in replacement close the thread.
R.I.P.
Happen to my P6P... RMA to Google.
Certainly a coincidence that the MOBO died when the battery is discharged...however, a little research will bring to light that it is NOT good to ever let a lithium battery go completely dead. YMMV
