Take a note of your specific model numbers on both of your devices. You can find out by going to settings/about or installing an app like cpu-z. Then, search your specific model on xda or on the internet. Amazon fire tablets are not all the same. It is possible to install TWRP and Lineage OS or other roms but make sure it's for your own specific device.
There are a lot of guides waiting for you. Enjoy.

Install Droid Info from Amazon app store
Open Droid Info
Look for the Board line
That is the device codename
That's what you want to search for.

Thank you both for the quick reply.
I found this on the search since I have the model Austin

The question is: How can I do this in a Win10 PC, I noticed the steps being in Linux which I am not familiar with.
Thank you.

Quick intro/Questions

Hi guys, New guy here, I recently got into the Android world. I am a theme creator from the other side (iphone of course) and am trying to broaden my horizons. Just have two quick questions for ya.
1. Are there any plans being made for adding the Kyocera Zio to the device list so they will have their own sub forum?
2. Has any one figured out how to put the Zio into recovery mode?
I have yet to figure this out, any help is appreciated. I really want to get started creating some themes for the android platform but this is proving impossible w/o being able to get to recovery mode.
Seriously, no one even said hello or had a go at either of the questions. This is truly disappointing to me, I was hoping this was a helpful community but now I am starting to think otherwise.
Hey Fate, welcome to the forums. That phone looks pretty sweet. Over seas phone? I can not even find what Android version comes on it.

[Q]

Hello to the group. I'm new to using the android system and i was hoping that someone could tell me why my Gtab doesn't see my thumb drive. I have formatted it to FAT32 and still no luck. I flashed the tab to 2.2 FROYO and all is working well. Is there something else I need to do?
Thanks to all for all your hard work. I am learning a lot here (that which I can understand anyway)
Again, thanks in advance.
Jim
Droid X, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Gtab.
Its not under usbdisk?
What rom are you using? Some roms have it in different places.
ROM is the Zpad clean? I was told it is 2.2 Froyo plain jane?
Thanks for the quick replies guys. I found it. I have a long way to go with this type OS. Hopefully it won't be to painfull. Again, Thanks.

Good to hear. Don't worry about feeling like your missing something, we all had to start in your shoes at some point. There is tons of info here on xda and tons more questions to ask every day. Use search as often as you can and if you can't find an answer at that point no question is a stupid question.
Good luck and enjoy getting to know your tab

Making a noob of myself

I am, as the video says, a complete noob when it comes to the droid os and all its capabilities. I just need to know some terminology. I've. Looked for a long time ( yes google) and I've only gotten mixed answers.
So:
1: what is s-on/s-off, and what devices does it apply to?
2: what information should I give, should I have a device question
3: anything else that you found useful when you started off?

*s-on/s-off is usually associated with htc devices but can be associated with other devices. As for what it is...s-off means security is off, and you can flash unsigned (custom) images to the phone
2: What information should i give, should i have a device question
*you will need to be able to provide your current rom that you are running, if any...sometimes your kernel/radio version...and what recovery you are using. (ie, if an htc, either amon ra or cwm)
3: Anything else that you found useful when you started off?
*this website!!! As obvious as this may be, there are tons of developers that are very willing to assist in any way. And trial and error!

i hope the info listed will help you on your journey!!
Thanks for the info. I hope nore people post what they dound useful, as well. I have, as my siggy says an r800x, or xperia play, nearly straight out of the box. It's from verizon, and I remember reading somewhere that verizon does something to make it more difficult to root it, so I hope I can figure it out. I'm talking about it with another forummer so I may get it figured out.

Take a look at the Xperia Play forums, you will probably have better luck over there

How to really get started

Okay this may be redundant but let me try. I'm new to this site and new to the whole androids modding.I was thinking of buying the star x26i or the star note i9220 dpad. I'm really not sure where to start once I get phone. If I can't get the direction I think I can figure out the rest or at least search to get info. Any help will be appreciated.
Get started as in what exactly? Are you talking about rooting and custom roms?

as I see you are interested in ROM development then here is a best resource on this site to help you on this subject

I know this is a modding community so the majority of answers are just going to say root root root! But in all honesty, if you are brand new to Android, get used to stock for a bit before you jump into modification. Spend your time reading about your specific device while you play with it and if people are happy with their devices rooted and the process isn't too intensive for you, then give it a shot.

Thanks for all the input. I was trying to be sure if there was a step by step process on what to do.I am fairly new to android phones and want to learn the ins and outs. I'm searching for a new phone now and it seems like the ones I like need something to be done to them before I can use them. So I was trying to be sure of the process before I screwed something up. I like the suggestion of learning the phone 1st which will probably lead me to a name brand phone.I'm currently with boost mobile so my options are limited. Once again thanks for the info.
1. Root
*unlock bootloder* optional
2. remove bloatware
3. read about custom roms
4. go crazy modding
Enjoy stock for a while, Oh and heres a tip, On the process of rooting, You can easily brick your phone.
Meaning Of Brick - It will no longer boot up; You have to replace it.
Well, actually I'm just looking
I googled "Rooted phone, what next?" and got several helpful sites and threads. Most of which lead back to XDA. Although I had a fairly clear goal in mind; I wanted ICS.

I got the x26i and I rooted it with Bin4ry it worked really well don't forget to install drivers.
Leave a thumbs up if I helped you.

Could do with a hand

Hi I've just received a new tablet , I know its not the best on the market but I have faith that it could be good.
I've followed a few threads on this forum with out having an account, and found the information to be very helpful with my late lg gt540 and my htc desire.
now as you can see at the bottom of this post I've got a DLR_MID. it has no name on the box apart from mid and nothing on the tablet itself, so finding a rom is somewhat fustrating. as the base rom has caused me a few issues i would prefer cmx or similar, with full root as well.
What information would a chef need from me to create a beautiful and tasty maserpiece. Also so advice from someone on one of the issues caused by the rom would be greatly appreciated and I'll go more into that now.
My tablwt has 2 internal storage bays showing up. 1 is listed as internal storage the other as internal sd. When I first got the tablet the sd was registering as 4Gb. I used the intwrnal a2sd function of the rom to move some apps. Without any warning the tablet reset, all the apps were gone but I'm left with only 1.71Gb. I plugged it into my pc to see what would show up there and still got the same 1.71Gb. I factory reset to whole device and still the same. I xould really do with some help with this please.
If you need more info please ask. I will do all it takes from my side to resolve both issues (with some advice with being a noob to tablets)
Kind regards to all
P.s. if I have posted in the wrong area I do apologise as I am new to the forum and haven't really figured the layout properly yet.

Is there someone that could help me please. I don't want to sound pushy, but some help no matter how small would do me the greatest of good. I'm almost at my wits end with both my issues here.
Thanks in advanced

First thing you will need is to know if the bootloader is unlocked and if kernel sources are available. Normally the answer to both is no when dealing with no name devices.

How would one go about find such info out? If you couldgive directions, I will be able to provide the information you require. That's if it would be you that would need the info.

Well first thing I would do is find the OEM and then look at the site and get as much info I could about the device.
Sadly purchased through ebay, I have made countless amounts of contacts with the seller to no avail. I can only assume they only understand money transfer, not language.
I have also made a number of attempts to google, all of which have turned up nothing. There seems to be a small house in the bambo forest making tablets out of panda poo and bambo leaves.
