Too late for added features - Vivo Nex Guides, News, & Discussion

I have the Chinese version of the NEX. I've had it since June 2018. An update just installed version PD1805_A_8.8.10. This update added a screen edge light notification feature for calls and notifications. One of the settings is the halo glow effect. It looks really nice and the options for colors and effects is good but I'm about to move on from VIVO and move over to Xiaomi for the Shark 3 Pro. The setting is Dynamic Effects and It's a shame because it looks really nice and can be useful but it's almost 2 years too late.

List of features i will be adding(suggest a feature only if it is not in this list):
1. Ability to select different colours for the edge.
2. Ability to apply this to the lock screen only.
3 Ability to add a custom image instead of the black background.
Nice work man! Before other features I just want those discontinuities on upper left and right edges removed, please work on that.
What discontinuities? If you are talking about the darkening of the top left and right edges in the preview , it is not the app but an overlay of the Android system ( The set wallpaper text is written on it). It does not look the same when it is applied.
The previous version used to clip the corners but I have fixed it... If you think there is something else please show me a screenshot, so that I can understand...?
Using it on my Asus Zenfone 5z. Works perfectly.
Can you add Notch support just like that OP 6 wallpaper?

Thanks for your work but I need to set only lock screen
I have been wanting something like this for a while now! Thank you! I hope in the future you add more effect styles, much like the edge effects on Samsung software.
I see that you plan on allowing custom images too which is appreciated.
Can't wait to see where you go with this!
Can someone mirror it to AFH please? I can't download it on the link given for unknown reason. TYSM..
Nice , is more higher Speed Factor possible?

[LIVE WALLPAPER] Borderlight - edge highlight live wallpaper (Updated 02/24/2019)

Borderlight live wallpaper
This is an updated version of the original Borderlight found here. It's a live wallpaper that creates a thin colorful line on the edge of the display (hence the name), the new version also allows you to display a normal background image behind the edge highlight and darken/desaturate it when the device is locked/unlocked.
There is no real way to programatically get the shape of the display in Android, so I did the next best thing and created a preset system, where users can tweak the wallpaper for their phone and then share their preset with others.
I need your help!
See this post for details
Update 2/24/2019:
New notch settings (OP6T and other teardrop notch phones should be supported now)
Pink highlight of the outside borders when changing screen shape settings (makes it easier to configure the screen shape just right - just move the sliders until there's no pink visible)
Update 2/23/2019:
Moved to Google Play
No new features (yet), but they're coming soon!
Update 11/2/2018:
Force black theme on Android 8.1+
Fix red tint on Huawei/Honor/Vivo devices (hopefully)
Fix preset codes not containing notch width
New launcher icon
Update 11/1/2018:
Background image support
Only show border when locked/unlocked
Desaturate/darken/hide background image when locked/unlocked
Black out clipped parts of the screen - the wallpaper looks good on screenshots now
Shorter, less annoying preset codes (with support for the old ones)
Correct rendering in landscape mode
Wider range of border radii - will now support Pixel 3 XL
Get Borderlight on Google Play
Or get legacy APK here:

Great work dev!
Settings for OnePlus 6 with very thin border

For Dark Wallpapers :
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=1Pd-Dz4sRZnK1BEvI2-OCp7iL6Aaciath
My HUMBLE suggestions :
1) An option for wallpaper slideshow.
2) Custom wallpapers with the same effects ( like oem logo, geometric shapes, popular shapes etc with minimalism in mind).
3) Option to change colors (or add different gradients, custom color combinations).
4) Presets of popular Phones built in ( Can add from trusted users)
5) Option to enable just a single beam of light (which doesn't cover the whole border).
6) Toggle for; only on notification/lockscreen/charging etc
7) Different patterns\animations for cycle like pulse, fade, etc ( rather than linear motion).
8) Option to change the direction( clockwise or anticlockwise).
9) Always on display.
10) An option to store and load different Presets
These are all SUGGESTIONS and NOT requests.
You have done a Great job in making this app so lite and minimalistic. Once again THANK YOU for keeping the app ad free !! :good:
This new update was all I was waiting for, awesome job with the custom image!
Sent from my OnePlus A6003
Awesome, great, too good!!
Can there be one more setting?
Seperate border size for left/right and top/bottom, u must be aware of black border tempered glass for oneplus 6 covering the sides of screen. If this setting can be implemented then this problem of tempered glass would be solved.
Awesome! The background image I select won't stay in portrait and I can't resize it, but the border is perfect on my Pixel 3 XL! Here's my present, I made sure it was perfect:

That's weird, I did not add an option to crop the image, but it should definitely stay in portrait . Maybe you could try cropping the image to your screen resolution beforehand?
BTW: The images work like this: If the image resolution is smaller than your screen, it will just get placed in the center of the screen, kinda like a logo. And if it's larger, the full vertical center portion of the wallpaper will be used (sides will be chopped off to make the correct aspect ratio).

I'm not sure tbh, you can try and if you won't be able to adjust it to the teardrop, I'll make a new version that will allow it.

Looks great works on my 5T
great wallpaper
Great update! Its qorking perfectly with no bugs, i have one request, if you can add a wallpaper cropper, that would make it the best live wp, great work!
Wonderful!! I agree with the other suggestions about being able to crop any picture. Next step is offering a paid version. Or at least a donate option. Your hard work deserves it.

The app is not supposed to recognize your phone, you should open the settings and disable the notch there.
Wow. This is amazing. Perfect on 3XL. How do you get it to work on lockscreen? I selected both at initial start and it only shows black screen on lock now..
Thank you for your work.
Does not work on my Jiayu S3A with MAD OS OREO 8.1.0
Amazing. Thanks for this.
Using it on my Vivo Nex full screen... Wonderful. Keep the good work going.
Looks nice but I'd like to use it with my current bg. However I can't seem to find the settings. There is only a big activate button in the app. No options to import or edit settings. Do I miss something? OP6.

How well do the notch notifications work?

I'm between buying this and the Mi 8 lite but this one has an amazing battery in comparison so I'm unsure about what to get. I saw there's a notifications mod on miui 10 but I don' know if it's enough... Or maybe there's a rom that implements this where it looks better? I was looking for some experience regarding this. Thanks in advance
the notification will change with upcoming updates I'm sure, i saw in the forums they adding badges in beta builds beside the notch, .. i was in your same position trying to choose between these 2 phones...but i leaned towards the note 6 in the end cause of the battery and the mi 8 lite doesnt have the infra remote nor 3.5mm audio jack.
Hi. If you're coming from an stock Android (AOSP) experience then you'll definitely be offended by certain behavior of notifications. A few things that almost made me go mad:
1) Can only swipe to dismiss a notification on the right.
2) Can't expand a heads up notification directly into the notification tray when it pops up.
3) Music apps notifications behave weirdly. There's this white underlay inside which the notification is nested and the player controls don't work sometimes (rare)
4) Notifications don't show up on the lockscreen for me. I've enabled them from the settings.
5) The status bar extends a fair bit below the notch area. It's nothing major but there's surely a good chunk of screen real estate that's wasted. The clock occupies all of the space to the left of the notch and app badges are not displayed.
6) Unexpanded notifications in the tray give me a headache sometimes due to lack of a divider line in between or padding or whatever that makes me discern from where one card ends and the other begins.
However after 2 weeks of use I got used to them. I switched from an OP3 so these little quirks enraged me at first. May be all of these will be fixed in future updates, one can only hope. It's a good phone overall and the battery life is phenomenal. Hope this clears things up for you. Cheers and Happy New year.

Thanks a lot for the write-up! I can always install a new ROM that could fix these problems. But another issue I've seen is that the community on this phone is wayy smaller than the Redmi note 5's, I hope it will grow a bit to see new ROMs, mods and stuff to fix this. At least I'll get updates, compared to my Redmi Note 3 (mediatek) so it's better than nothing I guess haha. I'll get the RN6 and see what I can do then

Yeah you can and RN5 Pro has lots of support given that it's almost a year old. I'm sure once the kernel source is released we'll get plenty of custom ROM action too.

Android 11 for Fold 2

Does anyone have a port of a rom from say the S20 for Android 11 on the Fold 2 I want those new features.
Would have been nice if Samsung did a Android 11 beta with the Fold 2 as well and not just the S20.
I hear you. You would think Samsung's most expensive phone would get the best service. Samsung should have a team working to get it out FIRST. I know they had to make some major changes, but Android 11 adds a lot of the multi screen stuff native.
Samsung said the the phone needs extra attention so it will be later. (From a Samsung Tweet).

The Note line doesn't even get the beta.
It's simply because the S20 series phones have the largest user base, so it makes sense to target them for the best possible and consistent bug reporting.
Samsung users don't really see the huge benefits of each iteration of Android, because generally new features have already appeared within OneUI. Seems Google take on cool Samsung features each year
So I am much more interested in what OneUI 3.0 is going to bring to the table (following info is from September 2020, so more features and amendments are likely since this release):

.
Hex Themes users have to think that way used for theme installation is hacky. There is a big chance new iteration of OneUI will block it and there will be no way to apply it any more.
I wish OneUI would let you use Icon Packs from the Google Play Store, like OxygenOS on 1+ phone does. These icons from the Samsung Theme store are pretty terrible and they dont cover as many icon as the Icon Packs do.

It can be initially tedious but using Nova Launcher allows you to customize your icons. So if you have some preferred set of icons (even like iOS ones from the JB community) you can manually apply them and save a back up.

The problem is that Nova forces the cover display to mimic the main display layout, which forced either poor use of the real estate on the main display, or extremely cramped cover display. On top of that, Nova + native gestures don't work too well and is a bit buggy. I've learned to appreciate Samsung's default home and use GoodLock + hex to make small changes.
But if OneUI were to allow us to use icon packs from the play store - I'd be absolutely besotted and would never even think about using Nova again. I hate ugly icons so much that I'm using Samsung's browser (which admittedly isn't bad at all since it works well on the Fold 2) because I hate looking at Google's ugly icon on my dock. I'll occasionally use Nova since it's already setup, but I miss bug-free native gestures + the awesome animations that come with the stock launcher.

I'm looking into cloning KLWP as I've heard you can use a separate Preset on the cover so as not to have the issue you spoke about (& still use Nova).
