Default navigation app - Huawei P40 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi everyone,
I can't seem to get my P40 Pro to set Waze as the default navigation application, or at least, the default handler for Google Maps URLs.
Does your "Default apps" menu look like mine? I want to start by double checking that I'm not missing a setting here.
As you can see in the "Open by default" screenshot, Waze should be opening all these Google links but it doesn't. When I click any URL like ""maps.google.com/....", it opens directly in the default browser (Firefox) without even prompting me to open with another app.
Any thoughts?

[Q] How do I set the default homepage?

Not just the "Home Page" but the default.
On Android 2.3.4, in browser setting->More->"Set home page",
I set my home page to google.com.
However, the default is modified by unknow app to searchmobileonline.com.
And I have no idea how to change it.
Anyone has similar problems?
Thanks,
Have you installed the app "Amazon Appstore -Notifier&Tips"?
I read that this app adds the same link as you have (sorry, I can't post outside links, but google this link with words 'android app' and you will find another results).

try going to setting, apps, manage apps, select browser, scroll down and clear cache;defaults; and data, then change your homepage. if that dont work I would uninstall the amazon app.

[Q] How do I change my stock browsers default home page?

I've been hijacked by Asus! Not the home page but the DEFAULT home page. Ever since I registered my device with Asus, now every time I lauch my stock browser it automatically logs into my google account and launches asus.com, which is set to my default home page. It used to ask me if I wanted to restore my last browser session or start with my homepage, now it does not.
Even when I set my homepage to say google.com, the next time I reboot and lauch the browser it is getting reset to my DEFAULT home page which is set to asus.com. How can I change this to go to google.com by default and why is my chosen homepage getting reset with my default page as well as settings I have chosen (javascript, cookies, etc all getting reset to DEFAULT settings not my chosen settings for my chosen homepage) ???
Are you using browser2ram?
Mine resets itself sometimes but it goes back to xda which is what I have it set to. I assume you know how to change the default home page from settings?

Yes I am using browser2ram. You can change the home page from settings, but not the DEFAULT page (Menu>Settings>General>Set Homepage>(Popup bullet list: current page, blank page, DEFAULT page, most visited sites, other)
Its this default page that is set to asus.com and I can't figure out where to change that. No matter what I pick from the Set Homepage popup, say I choose most visited sites or other and set it to http://www.google.com, then next time I reboot and launch the brower it goes to asus.com which is the DEFAULT page.
ps-I have CMClient and DMClient and a few other system apps FROZEN. Could this be the culprit?

If you choose "Other" (under Menu>Settings>General>Set Homepage) you can supply your favorite opening page without ASUS interfering.

Interesting Chrome browser integrated directly in Nexus Player

We all know the Nexus Player has a Chrome browser integrated in its firmware as it is used for some settings, google cast support, etc. However, it seems the browser can be somewhat user accessed and has a bit more capabilities than I expected, such as a desktop mode, mostly baked remote control support, ability to directly access web, image, map, etc search and so on. The interface for the browser seems close to having full remote control support. Amyone can sideload the actual Chrome from the Play store, however that one doesn't have a leanback interface like the built in one yet.
Here's how to find it:
Select settings at the bottom of the main menu
Select "About" from the first row
Scroll down and select "Ads"
Scroll down and select "Ads by Google"
Scroll down to "Ads Settings" link and select it
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and select "Desktop View"
Now you can select from the top bar with your remote any of the quick links for Google services, such as "Search". Once you do so, you're brought to the standard Google search page... clicking in the search field brings up the standard software keyboard (or use your sync'd phone, otg keyboard, etc). The results are displayed in normal "Mobile" view as on a phone, but you can scroll to the bottom of that page and choose to view the results in "Classic" desktop mode which is preferable.
Once you visit a site you can scroll through it with your remote as well, however navigating and clicking links seems to be hit or miss depending on the site. Also, hitting "back" currently takes you back to the settings menu instead of the previous page. I'm sure there are other quirks as well.
The point of this is: it'd seem to be trivial for an enterprising developer to wrap the existing functionality in an app and expose this near complete built-in remote ready chrome browser for easy leanback web browsing on the NP. Or, of course, the obvious route of Google exposing this web browser to leanback itself. Interesting.
This is cool to know. Love or hate the old google tv boxes (the ones with honeycomb) that is one feature they had done really well was they had a really awesome version of chrome browser that was very similar to the pc version out at the time. Still one that is made to work with the NP is good too.
I was able to install Chrome Beta from the Play store, and after getting past the "I Agree" screen it works perfectly. I'm using a BlueTooth KB/Mouse.
I'm using ChainFire's Launcher to start it, as the Icon doesn't populate on the home screen.
Tried this but can't get beyond "Ads by Google". When I select this I get a black bar down the center of the screen (1/3 the screen) and it flashes some information but then goes back to black.

I may be seeing the "I Agree" screen but it disappears pretty quickly.

Same happens with me. I read in another post Chrome will work (non-beta) but launched through the Chainfire sideload launcher. Also read Nova launcher works. Will test this weekend and update.
Strange. I still have no problem getting in to the built-in browser doing what I wrote above as long as Chrome from the play store isn't installed. If you instal Chrome from the play store, it supplants the built-in browser and the procedure above doesn't work anymore.
I also have Chrome from the play store installed... it works ok, but not as well as the (near hidden so useless) built in browser when it comes to the remote control support - with keyboard and mouse Chrome from the play store works perfect. I also don't like the Chrome from the play store defaults to its "mobile" UI in search, etc.
Hopefully Google will surface the built-in soon and provide an easy link in the main leanback interface.
I thought I got rid of the Chrome browser I had downloaded as a test but I hadn't. Once I did, the built-in now works except it does not fit the screen correctly (menu items at top only display half).

Your TV is probably not in "just fit" kind of mode... it's probably over scanning or set to 16:9, etc. If you can change the aspect ratio through your TV settings that'll probably fix the issue. Most media content is designed for overscanning so won't be an issue, but things like web browsers, PC screens, etc are not.
I was able to get the built in chrome by just installing google search from the playstore..

Default apps on TouchWiz

This is more of a touchwiz question. When I click on a web link from some app I get a dialog asking which browser I should open the link with. It then designates that browser as the default and opens subsequent links with it. I want to choose the browser every time I click on a link. Is this possible?
Thanks in advance
This app had been working pretty good for me:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith
It allows you to set a default app, or to show you the list so you can choose yourself. It also features a timer, so you can choose that it always chooses a default app if you choose nothing for a few seconds. It's very nice!
Thanks. It did the trick.

How Can I Make the Direct Message Widget Use the Default SMS App on a Huawei P10 Plus

As above ..
I'm setting up a Huawei P10 Plus for someone and I'm a little rusty on Android. It's running the latest version of their EMUI software, 9.1.0 on Android Version 9.
I'm also using the latest version of Nova Launcher.
What i've done is this ..
Long press home screen.
Select "Widgets"
Scroll down to "Contacts" and select "Quick Message".
Long press on that and drag to home screen.
Choose contact.
When I tap the newly created widget, it always opens up the stock android messaging app regardless of what i've got set as my default SMS app. If I go to Settings->Apps->Default Apps and select "Textra", which is the preferred SMS option of the person i'm setting the phone up for, I get the usual warning but I tap on "Change" anyway.
I've tried installing Chomp and Pulse SMS and setting them as the default app and it still always uses the stock messaging app for the widget.
Am I doing anything wrong ?. Thanks.
Thanks for all the replies, It's taken me this long to get through them all ..
Anyway, I've fixed it. It turns out that the contacts app that I was using was the default Huawei one, so it didn't have the functionality to create the direct messaging widgets.
I installed the default google contacts app from the play store and I can now create the widgets exactly as I need. I'm happy for this thread to be closed now, but thanks again the the huge outpouring of support and suggestions ..
