Dear MI 4i users,
We have got a lot of Nougat ROMs for our device recently and most of them are being actively developed.
You may have tried some of them, or may be wanting to try one now. But, with so many available ROMs, you'll be easily confused as to which is the best one yet for your daily use. So, here is little help for you to sort it out.
Note: If you have already tried the ROMs, please vote for your favourite one and help others to decide. You can also share your thoughts on the ROMs you've tried so far in this thread

AICP aka Android Ice Cold Project is highly customisable ROM with lot of features and best community. It also has highly active development with nightly builds, just like CM(used to be )

AOSP Extended is an AOSP based rom which provides stock UI/UX with various customisations features along with the Substratum theme engine. The project has been made by cherry-picking various commits from various other projects. Being based on AOSP it provides a smooth and lag-free experience out of the box. We will constantly try to add more features and make it even better in future updates. A ROM by a user, for a user. #StayAOSP #ExtendYourDevice

CyanogenMod is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 7.0 (Nougat), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
CyanogenMod is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community.
[*]PixelROM
PixelROM is a custom firmware aka ROM for various Android devices. It is built from CyanogenMod 14.1 with additional features, performance and battery life improvements.
The idea behind PixelROM is to give users a ROM that is "blazing fast and buttery smooth".
[*]Resurrection Remix
Resurrection Remix the ROM has been based on CM, Slim Omni and original Remix ROM builds, this creates an awesome combination of performance, customization, power and the most new features, brought directly to your device

Common features:
All ROMs are either LineageOS or AOSP based. So, at minimum, you can definitely see the feature set of LineageOS(or CyanogenMod formely) in all ROMs.
AOSP based ROMS like Slim7, AICP may additionally have their own custom features which are very useful and allow a high-degree of customisation.
Effectively, all the ROMs add their own flavour to the sweeetness of Nougat to make your device a pleasure in hand. :fingers-crossed:
Important : Go through respective ROM thread list of bugs and respective solutions, if any.
•=============================== A VERY USEFUL TIP ===============================• If you're flashing a new Nougat ROM on top of existing Nougat ROM, then there is no need to back-up everything everytime. Just wipe Cache and Dalvik/ART in TWRP and then flash the new ROM.
First boot will take 4~6 minutes irrespective of ROM and it's normal.
This works because all of the ROMs above have same base (7.1.1). I've personally tested this trick and it worked for CM14.1 <-> AICP12.1 <-> PixelROM.
It should work for other ROMs too. I'll let you know when I try or you can try and share the result.
A big advantage of this trick is that all the apps will be preserved and even the customisation you had done will be restored when you revert back to previous ROM. But note that this may break some Gapps because all ROMs don't support same package.
Finally, be warned: this method works only for switching between Nougat ROMs given above. Don't try this if you're on a different ROM.

1. Of course. I'll warn when that happens. But, are you suggesting that LineageOS team is working on their own gene engine? Because, that would be great considering the simplicity of CMTE.

Can someone recommend me rom + kernel combo for the fastest expirience?
I am currently using cr droid and I find it perfect for my needs, but will a kernel help with the performance and make the phone faster? If yes what kernel do you recommend?

crDroid is good, AICP 12.1 also works great.
BTW you should add AospExtended to your list.
In my opinion it is cleaner and smoother compared to other Android N roms.

You did not tell us if you have Osprey or Merlin phone. If you have an Osprey, like me:

Lineage OS is also a great Nougat rom. Almost AOSP, no heavy customization and great stability
If you do go for more customizations AOSP Extended is great
Pure Nexus ROM: very stable (my daily driver and never found any issue), smooth and very simple and light ROM ?
LineageOS or aosp-caf, I’d say
I agree with @nubry Purenexus is my favorite for a close to AOSP rom.
Hello devs , I was wondering if theres any dev who has some free time to make derpfest ROM or descendant rom because these two roms are the best roms available and theres derpfest rom available for oneplus 7 as well .

Try Havoc Rom, or BlissRom or also crDroid. Those are fantastic Roms with tons of stable features, good battery etc.
Could always try the rom for 7. Not sure how compatible full roms are but nolimits magisk rom and some kernels I've used can be used on a few different one plus devices despite being made for the 7pro.
Hello, I've been using this device for about a week now and would love to hear your opinions on what you think the best custom ROM is for gaming.
So far I've tried:
MiUIMiX,
PixelExperience,
ArrowOS,
ResurrectionRemix,
Stock MiUI (Global),
Xiaomi.eu and Pixys and so far I've experienced much better performance on RR.
How do these ROMs perform for you? Is there any others you can recommend?
Did you try optimus kernel ?
I just flashed Xiaomi.Eu and it's not better than stock on Gaming ( Pubg tested )
Pixel Experience
Pixel Experience is the favorite Android Custom ROM, because this ROM is light like the stock android. There are not many adjustments to this ROM, this has the aim of optimizing the performance of this ROM.

Havoc OS
One more ROM based on AOSP, namely Havoc OS. Even though it has the same AOSP base as other ROMs, Havoc OS has its advantages.
Based on information from the Official Havoc OS thread in the XDA Developer Community, this Custom ROM is inspired by Google Pixel, which will continue to be improved so that it has optimal performance like Google Pixel.

Ancient OS
Ancient ROM is a ROM developed by the Ancient Family Team. This ROM seems simple and light, and is designed for gaming or just social media.
Ancient doesn't just develop ROMs, they develop their custom kernels. Wow, great.

Mokee ROM
Maybe not many know about Mokee. Even though Mokee is a ROM that is diligent in providing system improvements, this ROM always follows Google to provide users with the latest Android system.
Mokee claims via their website mokeedev.com that this ROM provides a smooth and lag-free experience on your device. Must try.

Lineage OS
Lineage OS is the successor to CyanogenMod, which initially had stopped development. Lineage OS or commonly abbreviated as LOS was launched in December 2016.
This ROM is fairly constant and light, so it can be taken to play games.

EvolutionX
EvolutionX is the ROM that I use today. Quite happy with the performance of this Custom ROM. EvolutionX has many customizations that can be adjusted according to your wishes. This ROM has a balancing characteristic (balanced) between performance and battery.
Based on my experience as a user of this ROM, EvolutionX is light, fast, and reliable for playing games like PUBG.

AOSP Extended (AEX)
AOSP Extended is one of the Android phone Custom ROMs that provide support for many devices, it is not strange that this ROM has many users.
Similar to EvolutionX, this ROM has quite a lot of customizations that can make us happy using this Custom ROM.

Carbon ROM
Although not as popular as other ROMs, Carbon ROM is a must-try ROM for gaming purposes.
With a fairly complete adjustment, the reality does not reduce its performance, and of course, it has its magnetic power for this Custom ROM.

There are many of the best Custom ROMs for gaming, but the Custom ROMs I described above are more updated.
Until the time this article was written, all of the Custom ROMs above have the latest Android version, namely Android 10.0 Q, and it is not impossible if it will continue to be upgraded until the next Android version.
