Facebook App - Google Pixel 3a Questions & Answers

From reviews I've seen, it appears the Facebook app comes preinstalled on the Pixel 3a. My question is: can the Facebook app be completely uninstalled, or, like Samsung phones, can it only be 'disabled'?

There was no FB app on the 3a I got this week nor on my wife's that she got in November.

It won't be installed as a system app so yes it can be removed like normal.

Facebook Video Upload

This feels like something which should be already built into the integrated Facebook app but it isn't. tried a few 3rd party apps like BBF Upload but the are all a bit rubbish. Videos too large to email via Googlemail. Only option remaining is to sideload to a PC and upload from there. Surely an easier way. Anyone got this working on the stock ROM?

I was having the same issue the other day. I also noticed the FB iphone app has the chat option. Why does the android version lack these essential features?

Not the perfect solution, but if you grab the new AIM beta on your desktop and enable FB Chat, and then install the AIM app from the market, you can use FB chat through aim on your phone. It actually works perfectly, been using it for about a month now.
And yea, I remember FBook [i think] having a video upload feature that actually worked, but I like the native FB app for everything else so much more.

[Q] Facebook Widget issues
the facebook widget force closes at every attempt to use. I am running the initial build (not update 1 or 2). Is anyone else having this issue? Btw, the app works just fine.
Will not work on mine either
Yeah doesn't work on mine either
This is a stupid bug in facebook code where they pass a null intent and Honeycomb won't allow this. Same issue as Google Voice. Can be fixed, but not really worth it. Facebook widget sucks, and the app is updated often
I can't seem to be able to access Facebook through the stock browser or through the Facebook app. Is this a problem for anyone else or is it just me?
I think it is a Honeycomb and Facebook issue. I have the same issue on the Acer. Use another browser in Desktop mode and you should be fine.

Kinda works for me. I sometimes get redirected to the Mobile site where it just doesn't load the page and pretty much breaks it. Facebook chat lags, commenting photos lag and facebook games lag.
Use Flow for facebook, I installed it last night and works like a charm
I'm using the standard Facebook app and I have no issues at all.

And default browser in 'tablet' view mode. Working fine. Widget for the home screen in the app doesnt work though.
I haven't had any issues with the regular FB app but I use Friendcaster instead. Doesn't have all the features but it is optimized for HC.
Here is maybe a more generic FB question:
I am technically logged on as my real name, but I use my photography bus. as my main account. If this makes sense? I go Account - Use Facebook page as - then my photography bus.
It seems like on every app or on this tab I can't "switch" to use my photog bus. Any idea on what to do here?

For me FB on the browser or on the app is pretty bad. Any app that does better?

Have you tried Friendcaster? It is basically just your news feed but looks better since it is made for tablets.
My Facebook app force closes whenever I try to view "Friends." I thought the latest update was supposed to fix this, and indeed it has on Gingerbread, but it's still happening on Honeycomb.
im using FriendCaster THD at the moment. Works great but the widget is a bit puny.

facebook?

Has anyone gotten facebook working?
The app can be sideloaded... some have reported it working - for me it crashes about half the time tho.

The "Facebook App" that is included with the device is really just an icon that loads the mobile website into the Silk browser. It's not the real Facebook app and you can't download the App from the Marketplace or the Google Market.
If you sideload the App, it appears to work when you first open it, but then later it will ALWAYS force close when you go to your News Feed. The only way to get it to load again is to clear the Cache and Storage area. So, the real Facebook App is actually useless on this device right now and you should just stick with the Facebook URL hyperlink icon that comes with the device.
I see, thanks for the explanation.
Anyway, on a 7" pad it should be comfortable to use the Facebook website, so what's the point in having a Facebook app ?

The mobile website IS pretty good now, but there are some things missing from it. For example, Facebook chat. You could just use the Messenger app, but still, it's nice to have everything in one place.
That is just one example, though.
i kinda prefer the Messenger app over Facebook app's own chat. so, Messenger works on the rooted Kindle Fire?
facebook app alternative
I don't know if any of you have tried out friendcaster but it's a great replacement for facebook. I use it on my viewsonic gtablet and it does everything the facebook app does and more.

[Q] FriendCaster issue

Hi all,
Just installed the latest version on my Nexus S.
Compared to the official Facebook app, the Friendcaster is slower on updating the news feed.
Is this default behavior?
Or is it a known issue / limitation?
I also found that the news feed is not complete!
There were some post missing compared to the official FB apps.
That's because some people on Facebook block access to their profile or updates from third party apps, like FriendCaster. The app is still superior to the awful stock Facebook app, imho. But there are several lightweight Facebook apps that sandbox the mobile site if you're interested, like Tinfoil or FBM.

Ok, that means this FriendCaster is not good enough.
Too bad, I really like the layout, the themes, colors, etc.
But, if I miss information, then there is no point of using it.

Is there bloatware?

HI,
Not sure if this the correct place to ask. However I have a Pixel 5 on order and given that this is only £100 more I was thinking i might cancel the PIxel 5.
However what I really like about the PIxels is that they have no bloatware on, facebook etc.
Can anyone say if there is much bloatware on this phone?
Cheers
This app list is from Xperia 1 ii but should be same for 5 ii. I have preorder anyway, its very easy uninstall through adb commands without root.

Thanks for the list. Doesn't look to bad.
What concerns me is do they have any tie up to Facebook apis like some of the new OS's
Thanks again
What about Facebook?
Ahh man, missed that....
I wonder how deeply embedded it is into the OS. I know that on Xiaomi the integration can't be removed/disabled.
On a side note I would pay extra so that I could have blank OS, similar to android one.

Facebook was also present, I could only disable the app.
Are there any disadvantages for disabling apps instead of uninstalling them ?

They basically do the same but uninstalling will free up the space they took
There is.
Received mine yesterday and I was shocked about the preinstalled Apps.
Facebook, LinkedIn AND Call of Duty, which I couldn't delete. Don't know if I could deactivate them but I deleted those apps with adb.
The Google Apps are no Bloatware and shouldn't be removed if You want a fully functional Smartphone. Buy a Huawei if You don't want that....
So at the End. Bloatware are Apps that are not from the OEM or the Owners of Android. Facebook, Amazon, Games, Netflix. You should wonder why this is pre-installed. And out of Developer View (winkywinky) is it just funny how You think that removing of the Main Apps with ADB would mean they aren't working anymore. There is a lot of background stuff working that You can't remove or disable without Bootloader Unlock (Another thing which speaks for a Huawei if You want that). Just Saying, You are on XDA...
