Hi,
It looks like you might be out of luck, but this thread might interest you. You can join in the discussion there too,

Good luck!
I'd like to root my Kindle Fire (2nd gen, I think - system version is 6.3.4_user4120720). I can't post a link to the method I'm planning to use, but a google search for "techhive how to root your kindle fire pcworld" will take you right to it.
My questions: Which version of the Android OS will I end up with when this process is done? Once the Kindle is rooted, is it then possible to install later (or the latest) versions of the OS, or does the device itself limit what can be installed?
The reason I want to root is that as certain web sites have become more complicated, the Silk browser has become pretty much useless. It's almost impossible to read the news any more. Pages bounce all over the place, or the browser crashes as pages load their nonsensical graphics and animations. I'm hoping that rooting will open up options for installing a better browser. In addition, my Kindle is no longer able to run the current version of Dropbox, which is important to me. And finally, it'll be refreshing to get rid of the stupid carousel!
Hi there,
Rooting a device doesn't change the version of Android.
Please use this forum to ask for help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/kindle-fire-hd/7-inch-help
Good luck.
Thanks. I somehow missed that forum section.

Do you have Fire HD 8 6th Generation (2016)? Do you want it rooted? Request it then!
This is how to do it:
1) Download KingRoot. The version for PC is Chinese only. For English, get APK file. Very detailed instructions are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/one-click-root-tool-android-2-x-5-0-t3107461 . Download APK file directly to the device for easier installation.
2) Install KingRoot. Can be done by tapping the APK file on the device. Watch for error message: "Installation blocked". Tap "More details", then tap "Install anyway (unsafe)".
3) Run KingRoot. Tap "Try it" button, let it work. Then tap "Try Root", and let it work again. There will be "Failed to Root" message after that. You will also see how many requests to root have already been received. Please note it down. We need more!
4) Request root for your device! Tap "Submit request" link at the bottom of the app. This will add your vote, and hopefully will help getting root faster.
5) Post below when you did it, to encourage other people to do the same. Please also post the current number of requests, to help keep track of our progress.
Do it now!
All the above is very easy to do, and should take 5-10 minutes tops. If everyone coming here for root does that, the chances are we will get KingRoot's attention and actually get root.
P.S. Big thank you goes to Ayredfr for the idea: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70198709&postcount=109 .
Just did it, let's get the root that we deserve!
Tried 50 times over the past month. Hope root comes soon.
I did it too. Let's get our device rooted!

It's not working too on last 6th gen. This tablets with last firmware can't be rooted anyway
I just ran KingRoot on a Fire HD 8, and it said we already have 32 requests to root. Which is not bad. But could be better!
Just downloaded and tried a newer version of KingRoot, and it says 46 requests received already. Nice!
Tried and sent request.........
So, i'm very new to this topic. But just to be right...
Is it possible to put a custom ROM on the Amazon Fire HD 8 (6th Generation)?
Becuase i saw very much tutorials how to get custom ROM on the FIre HD 8 but lower Generation than 6... Possibly we can use it too?
I mean expect for the fact that we can't root it right now. (If i'm right ;D)
Thanks for your help

You need root before any custom rom or scripts.
Quit playing with your Pokemon.
Looking for this also. I'm on 5.3.1.1 and I'm waiting for root before I connect it to wifi
KingRooting Fire HD 8
How many requests do we need for kingrooting Fire HD 8 Tablet?
Sent request... Now I wait.

The amount of votes only has the impact of determining if there is any interest in root. When they actually decide to do it nobody can tell how long it will take to actually achieve root.
So I was attempting to follow the rooting guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-hd/general/how-to-upgrade-to-lollipop-root-gapps-t3163950) and aside from being very confused on the whole post in its entirety, I was wondering where I could find the TWRP for a Kindle Fire HD 6, I'm currently running 5.3.1.1 December 20th if that matters. I'd be more than willing to provide additional information if needed, on request.

Greetings and welcome to assist according to the guide you linked and this thread
https://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-hd/help/kindle-fire-hd-7-root-question-t3280019
kingroot should work and twrp would not be necessary

In case it helps, I don't find this Amazon reference in this forum, and so far don't find much specifically for the new 2018 8th gen Fire HD 8.
I tried following some of the instructions for ADB and prior generation Fire HD, and ended up losing connection to my 8th gen Fire HD 8 from my Win 7 laptop.
These instructions from Amazon helped me correct drivers and restore connection.
As a new member, I'm not yet allowed to post outside links, but someone else could construct the correct link from this:
domain: developer.amazon.com/
rest: docs/fire-tablets/connecting-adb-to-device.html

Try to use another ADB program from Android developer website.
