[Q Alternative Android XDA client? - General Questions and Answers

I'm currently looking (or asking) for any desperate clients or else to view XDA on my phone with some neat extra features (not Including Tapatalk)
For example (not needed but would be nice)
Everytime I open up XDA, my device's ROMs forum is in a Bold font, to indicate a new post.
But I would like it to only be that way on a new thread
(For example again)
Are there even any alternative clients for viewing XDA or should I use the official app?
Thanks for any help!

Try the XDA Labs app. It is built by XDA for XDA.

That's actually what I do. Shortcut to the XDA website via Firefox on my homescreen.

[Q] Please help a disabled user!

Hi There, I am a partially sighted user who has bought a motorola xoom. I also have an iPad and I have been looking for an app on the xoom which is built into iOS. It's the white on black feature, also known as colour inversion.
I have searched the market place high and low for such an app using all different search terms, i.e negative, inverted etc etc but I can't find anything. The native white background on web pages or any other text intesive apps really over strains my eyes, sometimes to the point where I have trouble making out the words of text. I also use the negative feature on my PC and is a much more comfortable experience.
I would like to know if anyone has come across such an app for android? I really love my xoom but I can't yet replace my iPad for using on the train to read the web because of my trouble.
Apologies if this was posted in the wrong section, it was difficult to know which category it fits into.
This might require root access. Anyways, good luck.

My device is already rooted but I still have no idea how to do it! Any ideas?
Your best bet on this may be to wait on chainfire 3d being updated for honeycomb.. one of the night modes may work great for you.

In the browser settings on my phone, I see an option to invert color of web pages. That could be a good place to start.
Hope you get it all worked out.
Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I was hopeful about the option in the web browser settings suggested but unfortunately this option doesn't appear in the settings for the xoom. Its a real shame re the complete lack of native accessibility options built into the implementation of the OS by motorola.

Default browser problem using facebook webpage..

I noticed when trying to use the desktop version of the facebook-page on the stock browser (even on opera mobile or chrome).. I can not respond to posts, and i'm not able to chat to people because of the lack of a 'send button' next to the input field/textarea..
Anyone having the same issue?.. Anyone has a solution to this..
I don't want to use the mobile version of the site.. Our note's screen is big enough to use the 'normal' facebook-webpage..
Any help would be welcome..
Thnx

That doesn't work. All it does is to create a new paragraph.

Contacts + "Best Contact App Ever for Android"

Just thought I'd let you folks know about Contacts+ , the contacts app I'm using on my stock now.
It is totally packed with features (chiefly, integration with social networks, WhatsApp integration and smart ordering), looks absolutely lovely, and just elevates the Android experience when using a smartphone.
As an added bonus, it pimps out your SMS and call log appearance and functionality as well.

I've tried it before. It works good with finding contact information in notes but I haven't used the apk in forever.
I hate to be a troll but you posted in the wrong section. Lol.

So, I tried to install the permission manager app from the play store for 4.3 and it didn't work, how can we manage app permissions on 4.4?

Google have blocked access to it in 4.4 so the built-in app is no longer available.
Coming from CM10.2 I was hoping to at least be able to use this with my N5, but alas it's not so .

Wait... They removed the feature that they just added to the last version? Or they removed the old method of enabling it?

I believe they blocked the APIs used by the permissions editor which is why it crashes - but I'm struggling to find the reference I read that had this info.......
afaik they removed it completely. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47098228&postcount=2
One of the best features ever introduced to android and they remove it. Might even downgrade my N7 because of this.

I downgraded my N4 back to 4.3. Disabling app ops is terrible. Even apple has this feature: iOS alerts you if any app wants to access your contacts, or your photos, or your camera, and you have a choice to allow or not. Android 4.3 does not alert you, but at least you have the option to dig into the App Ops and revoke access to certain things. 4.4 is the first time an android upgrade dissapointed me (they destroyed the alarm app, the keyboard, the wifi indicator's activity/internet access, and App Ops).
App ops was never an official feature, so they technically didn't remove anything.

good god, why do the Googlers always have to find every disappointment thread to defend their master. Let me guess, you think the Google+ enforcement on youtube is awesome too?

So? It's still a feature they included, with easy access, and then took away even though it was nothing but effective for the users...

I'm with you on the users defending Google like the can do no wrong, but definitely disagree about the YouTube g+ integration... They needed to clean YouTube up, and now I can see friend's comments on videos more easily and only view the comments and responses of certain people... That was a good idea..
I think Google is completely wrong by blocking this app ops function, if that's what happened here...

Search for this app on PlayStore: com.findsdk.apppermission
I'm not sure its working everywhere. I have test it, on my phone its working (I9300 OMNI ROM).

Does anyone know where these preferences are stored? I'm mainly concerned with whether or not changing the options will affect an OTA update. If nothing is altered in the system files I'm sure we're good to go.
Sure do love having it again!

Ok, any idea how to sort the list of apps in app ops?

Share functionality. How to change method?

Hi all,
After a week with this great device I've noticed that when attempting to share an item from various apps I am not given the choice of which app to share it from. For example. When using the browser and wanting to share a link. It defaults to my sms app rather than giving me options where I would naturally want to send via email.
Has anyone else noticed this, Had experience of this and can offer me some advice?
Thanks in advance

This exact thing happened to me, only way I could fix it was a factory reset.
