I do not recall which update broke this, maybe 8 or 9. Basically, I want to have my phone vibrate only when it's vibrate mode, no vibration in silent or sound on mode. This was possible before, iirc there was a checkbox or you could chose which profile would vibrate etc.
This has been bugging me for a long time but I never really tried to fix it but now I kinda do.
Is there a workaround besides doing it with tasker or something like that?

ok so my phone wont vibrate when i get a new text message. it may rarely work but more often than not it does nothing.
i have it set to 'vibrate only in silent mode' and then i switch it "vibrate" either thru the lock screen slider or using the volume keys but nothing works.
anyone else have this issue? fix?
is there a setting or way to make it have a separate vibrate and silent mode? like "ringer" "vibrate" "silent"
Can you check at "Text Messaging - (Menu Key Touch) - Message Settings -
Notification Settings - Virbrate Option"
I checked this option and it works perfectly.
Sound setting - Vibrate mode effects only about call mode.
Message Sound and Vibration mode works separately.
hmm thanks but thats not what i want. i dont want it to vibrate and play the sound. i just want it to vibrate when its in vibrate mode....

Did you try the "only when silent" setting within the text messages>settings>Vibrate? To me that means it should only vibrate but who knows if that's how it actually works.
(I feel embarrassed that I've had my D2 since September and never realized that's why my texts never vibrated. I just thought I had gotten used to the vibration I never felt it. lol)
I used to had the same problem and the solution that work for me was downloading this app called "VIBRATION WIDGET".. You just search for it on the market (i cant post links for now)
This is a widget that when you activate it pops up a window that ask you to turn on the vibration (notifications, calls, messages, etc) just click YES/ACTIVATE and there you have it. Problem solved
Sorry about my awefull english
Thanks button if you find this usefull

I have a Samsung Galaxy SIII through Virgin Mobile. I have a custom vibrate pattern set but when I get a text message the default vibrate pattern plays (two short vibrates). I am using the stock messenger app.
This is really frustrating does anyone have a solution?
So, I just got my Nexus S (Yes!)
During daytime I keep the phone in vibration mode (texts, email, phone calls, whatever). But at night I'd like to keep it completely silent, so no vibrations either. I can't seem to find the right mode tough.
Of course I could go to settings and switch vibration to never every night, but this should be easier right?
My old HTC Hero had a ringtone mode / vibration mode / silent mode at the side buttons but the NS doesn't seem to work that way.
Any ideas??
install Audio Manager
yes it can completely go silent or just vibrates
there are many bars of audio control
the short cuts only has access to like half of them
that's why you need a 3rd party app
Hold the power on button, there should be a "Silent Mode" option. That should keep your phone silent. Make sure to also check your Sound settings to Vibrate "Only when not in silent mode." Handy option.
Edit: You can also hold the power button and put your phone in "Airplane" Mode. When you turn off Airplane mode in the morning, all the emails/calls/texts or whatever will update.
Btw... slightly off topic but related: the vibration on the Nexus S is horrifically weak. I never ever feel it. Even in my hand, it's very weak.
no, that silent mode is fake
is not true silent, other music, alerts, etc, still sounds even when set to silent mode
re: vibration... exchange it for another phone, mine is very strong, i posted i topic about it
my old SGS had a weak vibration, compared to the SNS
Ahhh yes, i see it now.
I put the vibration to always when not in silent mode and the ringtones to "silent". So now I have a vibration mode and a silent mode, but no ringtone mode. Exactley how I like it! Thanks!
Re: vibration, mine is very "high" so to say compared to my old phone, but I'm starting to like it. Its just enough vibration...

Now i hv an issue which need u help. For my Nexus s, no vibrate appears when an sms or gtalk message comes if the silent mode is off. But, the phone would be vibrating if i turned on the silent mode. i set vibrate always in the setting of Sound. i also set the vibrate always in the setting of SMS and Gtalk. But, it doesn't work. i wanna the ringtone and vibrate both appear if an sms or gtalk meassage comes. is there anyone help me?
there are 2 modes
make sure you have set it to VIBRATE mode
if you set it to SILENT mode, it is really silent, it wont even vibrate, because vibration makes noise

Now the problem is that if the SILENT mode is selected, vibrate would come, if not, no vibrate comes. i wanna see that ringtone and vibrate come out together if an sms or gtalk message received without SILENT mode selected. but, it doesn't work. However, if an incoming call came, the ringtone and vibrate could come out together.
i had the same issue ever since I bought my Nexus S but the setting for vibrating when you receive a text message is in the Messaging app after you press the menu key adn go into settings
Messaging App --> Menu Key --> Settings --> Vibrate (Under the Notification Settings)
Hope this helps!!
I use audio manager (free version) from the market. It offers excellent control over all the global sound levels and vibration.

Hey all,
So I've been running Lollipop for a few days now and till now I haven't find the silent mode. So even without vibration for calls.
Right now I have two choices:
1. Completly silent. But this will also silence my alarm which I don't want.
2. Let it vibrate. Which I don't want for phone calls.
I want my phone to be silenced but the alarm excluded.
Normally users could hit the volume down key one more time and put their smartphone into silent mode where it won’t even vibrate.
I've been searching for days for this simple option. Can someone help me out?
Thanks in advance.

Priority Mode.
Under "Interruptions" turn off everything and the only thing that will make a sound when the phone is in Priority Mode is the Alarm.

And the low battery sound and the charging sound and a few other system sounds. Priority mode is a poor substitution for a real silent mode.
I can't believe Google took silent mode out.
What the F were they thinking?

Set volume to 1 (Just before vibrate mode). Sit and reboot phone. You will now be in silent mode.
It's messed up for sure. I had it set to "priority" with everything unchecked so just my alarm would come through but some dumb Facebook notification woke me up in the middle of the night. Wasn't amused.
The only way to silent the phone except for alarms is to put it in airplane mode? Ridiculous.
Looking forward to some custom ROMs to fix up this mess.
This is my main reason for not updating to 5.0 so far... All I want is to be able to set the phone to totally silent, but still have the LED light for notifications without having to download something like LightFlow to do it. I like having nothing make noise/vibrate, but still have the LED blink when something comes in.

I developed an app: Call Filter Alarm. Its sleep mode can silence all notifications (also whatsapp and viber), even on Lollipop.
Hope it helps

Hi guys!
I too have the same problem and no app helped me... so I searched far and wide and I finally found a simple trick With my knowledge I have created an app:
Silent Mode Lollipop (search for it.merkcoolapp.silentmodelollipopfree in the Google Play Store to find it)
It only does one thing: switch from normal mode to silent mode, on any version of Android (of course, including Lollipop).
Remember, it's the 1.0 version
I hope it helps!

I made a small workaround that is very handy!
I used Nova Activities widget to create a shortcut to the Sounds and Notificaitions --> Interruptions activity.
Whenever I want to sleep, I simply tap the widget on my homescreen, turn off Calls as priority notifications and go to sleep with peace of mind
As soon as I wake up, I simply enable Calls as priority interruptions again by using the Nova widget
I know this is a workaround but this is the best way I found so far to solve this irritating problem on Android Lollipop.
I would also love to hear about any workarounds that anyone else on XDA has hacked together! Probably whip out a dialog UI using Tasker?
Hit thanks if my post helped you
There is an app called True Silent Mode which supposedly adds back silence like we are all used to. Alternatively you can try a different ROM. CM12 has the usual "silent but with alarms on" mode.
Hello all,
I use Smart connect to put my phone into 'Do not disturb' over night while i sleep. However, since one of the last updates i have noticed that this does not mute notifications, it sort of pauses them until the phone reverts back to normal sounds and then all the notification sounds come through.
I just want to check if this is just me or is anyone seeing this strange behaviour. It didn't used to do that and its a pain when my phone jumps back to normal and i get all sorts of different apps pinging away at the same time.
Cheers
Bump....
Anyone else noticed this?
Yes, the same thing happens on my phone as well. It is to be expected though, or do you want to lose all your notifications?
In case the sounds it makes after dnd is over annoy you, you have to set the notification/call volume before you go enter dnd, as that previous value gets restored in the morning.

Thanks for the reply, good to know its not just me.
The thing is I get up at 04:30, so when my phone comes out of dnd, I sometimes get a dozen notifications just pinging away. The 'correct' way I want it to work is that the notification appears but it just silences the notification not wait until dnd is over to give them all at once. Thanks, I will have a play around with notification sound.
You can adjust the behaviour of DND on quite a granular level. Go to Sounds -> Do not disturb -> Notifications -> Custom and choose "Don't turn on the screen", "Don't blink light", 'Don't wake for notification".
You can also adjust who gets to call you during DND and whether you want Alarms to sound.
