Looks like EMUI 10 on this phone can not rotate the home screen (though all apps on
my phone auto-rotate). I'm guessing the reason is that it's a little hard to manage
two custom icon layouts (portrait and landscape), or is there more to this? Anyone
know if EMUI plans to support rotation in the future? In the meantime, is there a
nice way, or a recommended app, to change the home screen to something which
rotates?

I use Nova launcher, the pro version. It's well worth the money and can rotate any screen. Give the free version a try first.
Huawei home does not rotate, so as above, use another home app unless you're using a Chinese version, they are locked down and cannot be changed.

Hello,
I have a idea for a launcher but don't have the programing experience to make it. Unless a launcher is much easier to do then I think. I have done some light app dev in eclipse for android and would be willing to try it my self if someone can point me in the right direction.
I'll put the idea out there and anyone who wishes to use it I only ask to be credited with the original concept.
I call it "No Home"
The idea is that I am constantly hitting back or home to return to the home screen before I press the power button and put the phone to sleep. But the home screen provides nothing I really need, at least not necessarily. So Instead pressing home button will open a app drawer, I like the one Zeam uses since on return you are back where you left it. Also Some of the others allow changing of the number of Icons wide and tall are displayed, This would be a nice addition since I have a EVO and four by four has a lot of wasted space. Also it needs to be able to do folders. This allows for apps to be organized.
On boot you are opened to the App Drawer/screen. Then from there you just leave the phone at what ever app it is in when letting it sleep, if you need to open a new app either long press home for a recent app or press it to get to the app drawer/screen.
There would be no widgets unless they could go in the app screen, The notifications will have to do. I'm sure a always running notification that provides some kind of folder or something for widgets could be developed.
I know this would not be the launcher for everyone, maybe not even you. I also realize it sounds like this or that launcher or that I could achieve the same thing by not pressing the home button, but I think as a App it would be faster and lighter then any home screen launcher could be.
Nice!

Nice idea. But I don't have the programming skills either. Good luck with it and I hope that someone can make this soon!

Good call. It is not far off, and I'd consider it, but I'm not going for a iOS Home screen, I like the vertical drawer very much over horizontal and, I'm not sure if it is just my phone but I saw serious lag on vlauncher.
I guess What I'm looking for is really just a launcher missing the home screen. A striped down launcher. I need a app drawer that will allow me to get to my apps fast, and I have about 200 apps on my phone. Having to go home then press the app drawer button is two steps vs my proposed one. Also 16 apps vs 25 (for higher res screens like the EVO) makes a big difference.
I think I saw a how-to in a starting with android lesson that had a home screen lesson. Maybe I'll give that a shot... Have to find it again.
Still welcome any other suggestions or help, thanks for the ones so far.

AWD Launcher (and I think other launchers as well) has an option to launch the drawer when pressing the home button.
(You can still go to the desktop by tapping a on-screen icon: convenient for incedental consult of some widgets)

Ah, I found the home button binding setting in AWD Launcher, I forgot how configurable AWD was, and how much I liked it. This is close, When you press home it brings you to the home screen and a second tap brings up the app launcher, which you can set the number wide and tall the icons are.
This will work, between this and just leaving the phone at it's present state vs. pressing home before putting it to sleep, it basically solves my issue.
It would be a neat add on of AWD to Reverse the order of the home screen operation, maybe I'll suggest a option for that.
Thank you everyone for your suggestions.
This works fantastic, disabled the dock and currently running 10 rows 7 columns
Asus weather widget looks standard size.
The bookmarks widget looks fantastic the larger use make it, you just get more on the screen.
Totally awesome IMO well worth the money.

1.3 and above is what you're looking for. Previous versions doesn't have support for high density screens so the 5 icon dock will be squished in the center, 1.3 addresses this.
I've tryed all the transition animations and *curve* is the best non lag one out of the bunch. No matter how many widgets it just wont slow the butter smooth scrolling.

Big pro's for me:
supports scrollable widgets
supports resizable widgets
Adjustable collumns and rows, currently running 9 x 7
more screens currently have 6
It scrolls fantastic, 100 times better than stock
3D transition affects
If the icon at the top left is bugging you? ask the developer! contacted them about various issues over the months and they always reply.

I assume you just go to settings > manage applications, then find launcher and press clear defaults, then press home and it should ask you.

Don't think its possible to just get rid of it. It looks like honeycomb places the app icon on the corner for some apps. The only way I can think of is to unpack the apk, put in a transparent icon, or change how it looks. Either way you do it though will reflect in the drawer also. Since this is a launcher though and it auto launches it might not matter that it will be an invisible icon. If it bothered me enough then I could just hide the app i guess.

[Q] ADW EX - Wallpaper shifting
Does anyone know how to stop the wallpaper from shifting? It seems to happen after turning off the screen or coming out of an app. It's driving me up the wall. I even downloaded some 2560x1600 wallpapers that people suggested to use and it still happens.
And on a side note selecting the option for the wallpaper to scroll doesn't do anything (in ADWsettings).
I love the ability to resize widgets but this wallpaper problem is making me go crazy

Not sure if that's related but when I installed GoLauncher my wallpaper also shifted. Even after uninstall and reboot it was still messed up. I had to select a different wallpaper and then select the old one again; then it was fixed. It seems that the 3rd party launcher don't work well with HC yet.
i found that if i turn off locking the screen orientation (i rarely ever use portrait mode) and changing the orientation the background resets itself. but it is still rather annoying having to tilt it portrait and tilt it back.
no one else has this problem?
The same thing happened to me when I tried to use "Wallpaper Wizardrii"...until I uninstalled, then switched wallpaper...I'd get the weird shift after every reorientation....like the wp was resizing each time.
I was having major issues with wallpapers in adw ex, ended up using multi wallpaper live wallpaper to solve this, it can show a single image or a slide show.
I think the adw dev just got a honeycomb tablet so hopefully it will be fixed.

That not the right size dimensions so it won't work if you want something that big try 2560x2035 or smaller 1610x1280
All my installed wallpapers are the latter and i never have any issues.
I just started using ADW EX, and whenever I try to resize any widgets, the screen seems to freeze. That is, I can still resize the widge, but I can't deselect it, or select anything else on the screen -- including app icons, which stop functioning. I have to kill the app and relaunch to get it to respond again.
Does anyone know what the problem might be?
ADW is certainly feature-rich, but it is crying for some documentation, which I can't seem to find.

HI,
I had a Tab 2 10.1 for a day but it had to go back for a replacement, hopefully I'll get it in the next couple of days.
Anyway, I noticed that there seems to be a dead area around the edges of the screen where you can't put icons, is it possible to use all the screen for icons?
Cheers.

You are probably referring to the stock Samsung TouchWiz launcher.
With that launcher snippets and icons are forced to tay somewhat in the middle of the screen.
Try installing alternative launchers, Nova or Apex both allow to place items near the edges. In addition, you will be able to change the density of rows/colums and to suppress icon descriptions.
In paid versions you also will be able to make apps drawer sub-folders. Both of them offer a better arrangement of items when the device is turned in landscape mode.
Thanks for the information, it's obvious when I think about it, I use GO launcher EX on my S2.
Cheers
I you like go launcher ex then you could try go launcher hd in the tablet

I remember someone posting a rotating lock screen here last year, with a minor bug that had the lock screen's landscape wallpaper stuck to whatever was in the apk. (If I remember correctly, the landscape wallpaper was a cornfield)
I think it was sir OptimusRS that made one.
I'm looking for it again so that it could match with the rotating homescreen by member kaanmete. That, and, I may have found a workaround for the landscape wallpaper.
Although, if anyone has the time, can someone please port the Jelly Bean lock screen instead? Like what kaanmete did with the home screen, weather widget, etc.

Heya,
the new nameless KitKat ROM (4.4.4) for our p920 has a "rotating" lockscreen. It is not supposed to be like that Id say, but it is "working". :highfive:
Feel free to have a look.

If it is running the LG UI 4, then it is supposed to be like that. Much like how other versions of the UI 3 are able to rotate the home screen (currently using a version by member @Impact7).
As excited as I am about this new rom, unless it's fully working, I'll stick to the official firmware and figure out how to do more things with just ICS (for now).
Hi I was wondering if anyone found a launcher that would be optimized for the cover display?
Currently I installed Hyperion and added it to goodlocks widget and while the app icons are resized for the coverscreen and I can launch all my apps from there, I was hoping if anyone tried any other launchers that function better
And yes I am aware of samsprung and coverscreen os, I have samsprung installed but I like the fact that goodlocks implementation allows for gesture nav to work and it allows for the fingerprint reader to unlock my phone without Bixby
That's not a half bad idea. I hadn't even thought of using the widget to launch a launcher.

Ya so far it's been working great, it gets me around the 5 app limit, I did the same thing with your original widget as well for fun but since there wasn't a way to press a back button back then it was ultimately pointless but with goodlocks widget I find it useful despite some limitations(picture in picture mode still works so YouTube videos need to closed or else you'll have a bad time)
I thought an android tv launcher would work better but the ones available on the app store are super glitchy
There used to be a launcher inside Kodi. I wonder how that would do being made to support almost anything.
