I can't believe I'm still asking this in 2020, but casting audio and/or video content to DLNA has been a problem since Android's release -- and the situation hasn't improved, even in Android Q. I've used BubbleUPnP on rooted phones for many years to stream almost any type of audio content to DLNA. But I haven't been nearly as successful casting video streams to DLNA, with BubbleUPnP or anything else. Up to now, I've just lived with it.
But along comes the virus, so our very large church can now only meet via its live stream. Understandably, my wife wants to view the services on the TV vs. a tiny phone screen. The live stream displays perfectly in any Android browser, but I've been totally unable to cast/mirror it to either of my DLNA-equipped TVs. I can cast locally-stored .MP4 movies from my phone to either DLNA TV with BubbleUPnP. And I've even managed to cast previous services from the church's recorded video archive, which are simply recordings made from the same original live streams.
But for some reason, trying to cast the live stream itself always gives errors. I've tried every option in BubbleUPnP, plus every other product I could find in the Play Store that claims to support DLNA, all with no success. Both the recorded videos and the live stream appear as embedded objects within the church's website, but I'm assuming the live stream uses a different protocol that none of the DLNA casting apps can handle?
Yes, I might be able to cobble something together using a Chromecast instead of DLNA. But I have no other need for a Chromecast; am not even certain that it would solve the problem; and just hate to run out and give Google more $$ for functionality that should have been built into Android years ago. Unlike a proprietary Chromecast, DLNA is a widely-used standard. DLNA renderers are built into two of my TVs, and an audio-only renderer is included in my Yamaha AV receiver. I'd just like to be able to use them.
Any ideas welcome... many thanks!

DLNA is cool. I can even watch movies on my phone. But I don’t have a DLNA-certified TV. My TV is a normal one. Can I still watch movies from the computer on my TV?
To access DLNA streaming, if your TV is not certified dlna one, then use a media player hardware as a bridge. Of course, this media player must be dlna certified one like the popular ones: WD TV, Popcorn Hour, TVIX, Dune Player, PS3...
Use the cable to connect your hardware media player to your non-DLNA certified TV set. Thus your TV set is only used as a HD monitor.
Also the supported codecs of these players is very important point. MKV file can not be streamed by DLNA directly. Try a video converter app to transcode mkv to compatible one. Seaching on Google, you will find one. I find one via searching dlna mkv video converter.
Good luck. ^-^
And don't forget you lose subtitles since there is no standart for in in DLNA specs.
Hello,
most manufacturers now provide apps that allow us to stream media from our phones to DLNA compatible TVs (TVs, AV-Receivers, Media Center Devices etc.). I was however not able to find an app that allows you to play a youtube video from your phone to the tv. Does someone know such an app? Are there any technical limitations on our phones that prevent such functionality?

Hello,
I got my surface on launch day and I love how easy the DLNA streaming implemented I can even stream skype to to my TV during video calls. However, seems there's no way to stream videos (I think streaming photos works) from IE10 to other devices? Does anyone have a solution? If not, is there any app that I can "share" the video (mainly from Youtube) on the IE to so that I can stream it to my TV from the app?
Thanks!
I have a Panasonic Smart TV and I'd like to watch some movies on it, via my Nexus 5. How do I do that?
I went to Settings>Screen Cast and when I turn it on, it finds nothing.
The cast feature isn't implemented yet in Chromecast. However, for streaming video I would recommend using the realplayer cloud app. You can stream any video (and audio I think) content from your phone, or anything in your realplayer library. For example if you have a computer on the same wifi that has videos in the library (not even necessarily uploaded, just in the library) you can stream it using your N5 because it will be in the app.
I am getting a bit sick and tired of messing around with my media server trying to get videos to work that play fine on all my other devices.
Got the Quest to play some games every now and then, but mainly to be able to watch my 3D movies again after my TV went up in smoke.
I am wondering:
Is it possible to somehow add the required libraries to the Gallery app or the discontinued Samsung VR player so videos with more than 2 channels can be watched with sound?
Otherwise I would have wasted almost 3 weeks of ripping my DVD's onto the server as of course I only converted them into MKV's while keeping all extras, like DTS and AC3 audio channels instead of converting to AAC or MP3.
I know you can modify apps for almost anything, but have no real clue how to "just" add some required audio libraries to an app
Just stumbled on this..
Here's my 2cents.
Not sure why you would be having struggles.
My setup;-
Asus RT-AC88u - USB 3.0 1TB Hard Drive connected - Running as a NAS
Connect with any device, including Oculus Quest vi same wifi network.
Stream 3D movies , others via SkyBox
Works great
