Anyone has any idea what's going on? This didn't happen when I updated from android 8 to 9.
Is it because I did a wipe data and format flash?
Edit: fixed it by holding reset and then it updated by itself. No idea how to close a thread using xda app tho, if any mods read this you can close.

My first answer to any of this kind of question is factory reset. Another good option would be to looking into CM ROMs, or even LC's ICS ROM.

Factory reset? No no no...the default answer should never be straight to factory reset!
OP...are you rooted? If so which rom are you currently using?
I got your 10 char right here

Factory reset is your last option if you have an unrooted stock ROM. And if you have a custom ROM it is not even an option. OP, follow through with cwhitney24.
I'm just guessing, but it sounds like something that uses only mobile data is always on. Sometimes an app may not close right and hang it up. Try rebooting and see if it still does it.
I had this happen to me once with my home wifi. I ended up having to make the phone forget my remembered profile, scan, and setup again. Not sure what caused it, but it hasn't happened again.

I've tried to clear the cache, do a battery pull, restart my phone and nothing seems to work. Trying to copy anything from any app will make it not respond and yields in a force close. Anyone know what I should do?

You have to tell us, what rom you are using? rooted? Did you freeze any system apps?
I have the same problem. My phone is not rooted

Stock, not rooted (no ROMs are stable enough for me yet..mainly CM and AOKP) and I updated to the new ota
I forget exactly what causes it, but a factory reset is one of the only ways to fix it.
With all the work that goes into installing all the apps and stuff, Id rather root my phone xP
Here's a post that describes one method of fixing the issue, if you are rooted, by deleting all of the files in "/data/clipboard/". It also mentions clearing the data in the "TestService" app, but not everyone seems to have to do that step to fix it.

Thank you kindly sir!
Hi everyone,
I recently started to experience a problem with CM 10 on my Xperia miro. I am using the unofficial builds provided by the FreeXperiaTeam. During random times, when the phone is locked, it stops responding. I am not able to unlock the phone nor see anything on the screen. The buttons on the device also show no response. I am able to turn it back on only after I remove the battery, and put it back in. This issue occurs at least once everyday.
I would really appreciate it if somebody could provide me with a solution for this problem. I would prefer to not factory reset my device.
Thank you very much!

Anytime your running into issues like this on any Custom ROM the best practice is to start over, don't be lazy to save Data ..and Don't do a Factory Reset on a Custom ROM it never fairs well. You can as mentioned wipe dalvik and cache then fix permissions but if your still having issues the get away from that build or redownload it and do a full wipe and fresh install you will save yourself time and headaches. Things go wrong from time to time just start over and do a clean install

Plus, be choosy about what rom you are flashing. Better stay with official/stable releases if you want to avoid problems, and never do a dirty flash. It's better to be careful than lazy.
Thank you all for the help! I don't know how, but the problem has stopped. Sorry about the late reply.
Does anyone have a problem with random "pauses" while using apps? It's totally not noticeable for applications that aren't continually running animations (ie: kindle, text scrolling) but becomes evident when doing thins such as:
- recording video (the "pause" will cause the recording to stop randomly for both continuous and time lapse)
- playing games (will cause the game to go to the pause screen)
- tasker programming (I think this is affected because tasker will randomly close itself without a FC dialog, profiles and tasks seem okay)
I turned on debugging to see if it was a dirty screen or anything, but the touch coordinates don't change at all when the "pause" happens. Anyone have an idea how I can fix this? It is rather crippling to the N5.
I am rooted and I have seen this problem on all roms (and I believe I noticed it on stock too...)
I use a ballistic case, if anyone else has had problems with it...
Thanks in advance!
Using N5 on Carbon + Franco kernel
I guess no one's ever had this problem before? =[
Have you tried factory reset? Fixes most problems. Could be Franco's kernel has a bug in the latest release.

I've tried out a few roms (factory reseting and cache clearing between each one) to see if it was any one problem, but whether AOSP or CM based, I still have the problem =/

Do you mean stock + unrooting? I think I remember having the problem back then, but I don't quite remember before I rooted...I'll try going back to stock w/ root first and see if it's still happening. Thanks!

Yes follow the link in the general to go back to complete stock and that will eliminate anything and everything that could be an issue related to software.
For what it is worth, what method did you use to root?

Hmm, I think it worked. I haven't tested it out for lengthy periods of time but I haven't noticed any pausing anymore! =]
I followed the unroot instructions to return to stock. Although I didn't relock the bootloader.
Then I booted up stock and it seemed like it works fine.
I reinstalled CWM recovery through adb (same as I did the first time) and proceeded to reflash
It seems like the problem is gone now on custom ROM as well. Interestingly enough, if I nandroid restore my old backup, I do get the problem again.
Is there something different between reflashing stock part and wiping from factory/data reset + system partition format + wipe cache + wipe davalik?
Thanks for your help guys! I was sure before that it was hardware since I had the problem on stock w/ root, but thankfully it's not a hardware problem! =]
Hey guys.. I just updated my phone to the latest update of satyr007‘s linaro mahdi rom. I have formatted system, cache and dalvik and so on.. it's not my first time to flash or update a rom
I'm using latest code blue kernel with it and this combination has always been great.. no problems. Until the last update.. see for yourselves.
Does anybody have an idea what the reason could be or how it can be solved? Please other suggestions than simply a factory reset
Had this problem once before but then it disappeared.. and reappeared after the update.
Thanks for your answers.
is that system app
Wtf? Please answer in a complete sentence.. or give advice how to solve this problem
Factory reset is the best solution, whether you want to hear it or not.. There are technical reasons for this.
How ever in the interim, you can try wiping data on phone / dialler app.
Thought so..
I try to wipe cache and app data/cache and if it doesn't help, I'll wait for Android L.. the batterylife isn't that bad anyway despite this issue.
Thanks again.
