[ROOT]&[MAGISK]For Asus ZenPad Z10 (ZT500KL) And ZenPad 3s 10(Z500KL) - Asus ZenPad 10 Guides, News, & Discussion

Guide to get full root access of ZT500KL and it is supposed to work on Z500KL(ZenPad 3s 10) as well.(not yet tested on the latter device.)
As we know, the Verizon modified devices are often difficult to unlock and get root access.BUT,this device ZT500KL has got a 'sister' version, which named similar called Z500KL.
The bootloader of ZT500KL is strict and of course will not boot without unlock.
HOWEVER,the Z500KL's bootloader does not seem to fully verify the signature of boot.img.
Also i found a post by Shakalaca which contains a command to allow partition flashing even without bootloader unlock on some ASUS devices.
So,here it comes the magisk.

THANKS AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Shakalaca, thanks for his post for the partition flashing command. The original post was in his medium, you can search this in google[ZenPad S 8.0 (Z580CA) bootloader unlocked]
(i cant put link on xda cause i am a new user)
落落大 in CoolApk,for his work on getting the full boot image of 5.4.7 os version
IMPORTANT NOTES
As the bootloader is still locked, the device will refuse to boot without signature.if you want to modify the boot, remeber to sign it.you can sign it using your own signature.
the version of boot should be same as your os,for example if you want to root 3.3.7,flash the 3.3.7patched.the image for other version may not function well
if you are using Z500kl,you can extract the boot image from ota package from asus website, and patch the boot by yourself

Mine was BRICKED following this tutorial. Can't restore system and need HELP.
Looking for a way to flash stock firmware again. ANY ideas would be graciously accepted.
Anyone want to chime in on the procedure to "sign the bootloader" or is that not strictly necessary to root+magisk?

Hi @jose tronco any luck fro Asus Z8s from Verizon to do the same thing ?

PHP:
No ! You have to find your own rom's boot.img and modify it via magisk app. After that, you can flash this boot image via sofia support command at the fastboot mode.
You can find your own rom's boot.img at the zip file from Asus support's website.

Mine was bricked too.
When ZT500KL was rooted, bootloop may happen during the first 2 or 3 boot/reboot if you change any setting or install any app.
To avoid this, just don't do anything.
Let the table reboot a few times, make sure everything works fine without bootloop.
Then, do whatever you want.
If you already got bootloop, the solution as follows.
The reason why a rooted ZT500KL can't flash stock ZT500KL firmware is that, the root process has already changed the name of the table into "Z500KL".
So, the stock firmware of ZT500KL could not be flashed.
In order the chang the name of the tablet back to ZT500KL, you have to flash the aboot of stock ZT500KL.
Here is the download link.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1HKXHEEB3LtFqfwU9DyTFutsWQjcEtPQg/view?usp=sharing
Just download it, and flash it as the way you root.
"fastboot getvar sofia_support"
then
"fastboot flash aboot emmc_appsboot.signed.mbn"
then, reboot.
The tablet will be renamed to "ZT500KL".
Now, you can just download stock VZW 5.4.6 firmware from ASUS website, and flash it with asus flash tool.
If you still want to root your tablet, just root it again.

This is awesome! Thanks for the support! I thought this device was dead and no more development would ever be done for this.
I have the Z500KL and as soon as some ROMs come along I'm doing this. I'm also happy to help out if I can. I'm currently on the latest Japanese ROM JP_V5.4.0_20170711 (Device name is ASUS_P001, but is essentially the same as every other Z500KL and can be flashed to WW ROMS no problem)
I assume that once you have gone through these steps above, then as long as the boot image is signed (with any old signature) you can install a ROM for a higher version of Android, or are we limited to Android 7?

Hello, is there any chance you could write a step by step guide for dummies? I've rooted and flashed a hundred times, but I'm just not following some of the instructions, and others report a bricked device.

Ok where to start...to start I rooted my Zenpad and was dumb enough to use Titanium Backup to get rid of bloat and now it just sits on loading screen for the last two days...now I screwed it up really bad by erasing the system partition....I got it to recovery but won't let me flash the Z500KL firmware UL-ASUS_P00I-WW-5.4.6.0-user.zip because over newer build (See pic) is there anyway to change the firmware or the recovery (see pic) to an earlier date to install the firmware? If not in right forum please move....
SOLVED!!! Took all morning to do...used ASUS.Flash.Tool.v1.0.0.45 after changing
aboot ww5.4.6-emmc_appsboot.mbn to aboot emmc_appsboot.signed.mbn, rebooted fastboot, (DID NOT RESET and flashed ZT500KL_all_VZW_user_V3.4.3.raw. booted up to setup! Yah!!!!

This worked great on a z10 i got from China. For some reason it fails in the middle of updating to android 7 and the verizon update software doesn't work. Was wondering if I could use the update files from the z500kl?

i need a video for detail guild, please. Someone will post that on social media or youtube. My device is ZT500KL. With ZT500kl I have to do all 7 steps above, right ?
Thanks

Hello, guys! Just installed root and faced the problem: wi-fi died. It doesn't turning on and has MAC-Adress 02:00:00:00:00:00. How can I repair it? I have Z500KL with 5.3.6 firmware

Hi, I’m new here and really, really want to get rid of the Verizon firmware as apps are constantly crashing and not working well, likely driven by the Verizon garbage. I have a ZT500KL with VZW_V5.4.7_20180101, and ZenUI of 3.0. I read through the thread and have a couple questions:
1) The initial post doesn’t mention ZenUI of 3.0. Is it dangerous to try this given my version isn’t listed? If so, is there a way to update my ZenUI?
2) Being new to this, if I successfully complete the steps outlined, what do I do next in terms of the firmware? Am I right in assuming that the above steps remove all aspects of Verizon? If so, can I simply update to the latest version of Android? With Verizon gone will I be able to freely update ZenUI, as it seems mine is quite behind at this point.
Thanks for any help and guidance, I’m new to this and really just want a tablet that works properly and doesn’t crash apps constantly.

Hi,
Could anyone please share the recovery img of ZT500KL? I'd bricked mine and need it.

Flashed the rogers firmware on my retapac moto z then updated to us version nougat. Root didnt work so flashed back to rogers mm. Not booting anymore. Not flashing anything nor side loading since cant downgrade bl and gpt. Nougat sideload refuses because it sees device as already on new firmware.
So edited the flashfile.xml on rogers mm firmware. Removed the bootloader and gpt flash and reflashed partial mm system. Sideloaded nougat again and everything went perfect.

The warning message is normal. So what happens when you go to Recovery mode. When you installed twrp, you executed both fastboot flash recovery twrp.img and fastboot boot twrp.img? So it boots directly to twrp.
So if you're upgrading to nougat, the sequence should be:
Go to bootloader screen.
Flash rogers MM firmware thru rsd lite.
Go to bootloader screen again and select recovery.
Choose adb sideload.
Type the command to sideload the nougat firmware.
Optionals are install twrp, install the odexed custom nougat firmware from the other thread, and root.

i came from latest marshmallow with unlocked bootloader and rooted. because the ota didn't work i flashed stock marshmallow reteu via fastboot and loaded the ota again via the update menu in settings. it failed again. therefore i flashed stock nougat retmx via fastboot. the result was a black screen and only an unknown device named "qusb_bulk" at the windows device manager. meanwhile i've installed qualcomm drivers and qfil but still need the right files for my xt1650.

Is rsd lite still seeing your device? There are full firmware files somewhere here in the forums. Or do you only need bootloader and boot img files?
rsd lite is just using fastboot. i need the files for qfil. (rawprogram0.xml and patch0.xml)
I came fresh out the box xt1650-03 and was trying to get twrp (which worked) and then root which failed. So installed on of these ROMS that had root and maybe even the 7.0. Now I just get the your devices is unlocked screen and nothing else. I just want to get back to the way it came but cannot get RSD to see my phone. Any help or ideas?

Why the lack of updates on this phone?
Wed Aug 31
As Peter Griffin says - if they're not giving it to you, you probably don't need it. Remember these large groups of men know what's best for you.
Seriously though, there might be tons of unique adoptions to the phone that need time to port?
CM14.1 was out a week ago but Moto Mods aren't working and that's 50% of the phone not working.

[ROOT] How to root with latest N firmware NPJ25.93-11/NPJ25.93-14

[ROOT] How to root with latest N firmware NPJ25.93-11 and NPJ25.93-14
Hello,
Because it seems that all previous root method don't work with this new release, here is a method with have be approved ok on XT6143.
Prerequisites:
- Unlocked bootloader
- Android debug enabled in dev options
- adb and fastboot usage
- Worked only on the NPJ25.93-11 or NPJ25.93-14build
> you can flash it with thoses tutos:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/install-official-firmware-soak-test-t3531296
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/android-7-0-install-nougat-official-t3531612
Procedure:
- Download my file superboot-athene_NPJ25.93-11_eng-noverity.img
or superboot-athene_NPJ25.93-14_eng-noverity.img
on your PC
- Reboot your phone via combo key or adb into fastboot mode
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
- Boot the superboot with the command
Code:
fastboot boot superboot-athene_NPJ25.93-11_eng-noverity.img
or
Code:
fastboot boot superboot-athene_NPJ25.93-14_eng-noverity.img
- Go to Play Store, and install phh's SuperUser
- You should have root
Warning & attentions
- This is a temporary root, if you reboot your device, root will be lost (you have to boot the superboot img again)
- You can try to flash this superboot to get permanent root with
Code:
fastboot flash boot superboot-athene_NPJ25.93-11_eng-noverity.img
but it seems it doesn't work/the bootloader don't allow it on many variant
+1 booting the img file worked. Sadly flashing it didn't.
Hey guys, has anybody come up with a stable way of rooting the athene (Moto G4 Plus)? Wanna try the RR on it, but i am quite new to Motorola and the series of threads that i have read through doesn't actually give a specific guide to get done with it (seen many people ending up with a bootloop). And as i can see, there are not many posts on the latest NPJ25.93-11 build (i got my phone yesterday). Should i go with a guide and root it or wait some more time for a stable guide?

Thanks for the reply. But can i install the Resurrection Remix ROM with a temporary root through flashify? as i understand with my little knowledge, it reboots to recovery to install the ROM and if the root is broken with that, does it affect the installation? I just don't want to end up with a fully bricked device on the second day xD so just making sure

Well you can try RR by flashing custom recovery (TWRP) . Root is not needed in that process.
I think waiting for stable version would be a better idea. Can you confirm about xposed on official Nougat, without xposed rooting is a waste for me?

Its for stock roms, not lineage roms
don't use this, doesn't work !!! after update on nougat i want to root it with this method and phone stuck in bootloop with permanent blue led !
EDIT :
after long searching i have found solution for this case. i have found whole OTA nougat update and after download i have flashed boot image(only) and phone is started again.after that i try this solution for root and it works !
what i can see with new update is that battery life much better is !
I would like to ask is OneTeam (or anybody else) working on some root method that will not require TWRP/unlocking bootloader?

Unfortunately you can not be anything with the vote, you have to wait 14 days
A am not worried about the waiting period, I don't want to lose warranty.. with rooting only it is not certain, with unlocking bootloader it is certain that warranty is void...

The guarantee is not so important. Root and use it without problems. The solution for closing soon may also come.

you should be able to flash the latest firmware listed above as long as you can boot into fastboot.

unlock the bootloader.
I can't, because OEM UNLOCKING is set to off
Thanks for the simplified guide. Worked great, I was able to relock the bootloader and accept an OTA with no problem. Only issue is the device doesn't pass safety net - signature validation error, and when I boot up I get the device has been modified pop up.

I was already on the newest OTA when I bricked my phone on a locked boot loader, and when I try to flash 28.1 thru Fastboot, it says validation failed. is there anyone out there who has access to the Fastboot flashable 28.2? I need my phone back!

What have you tried so far? There isn't a full 28.2 image yet that I know of.
Maybe this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x4/help/20-uploads-official-signed-28-2-t3810215

same peeps thread
aw man... well, I meant to post specifically to the last post in the thread but was on the mobile app.
:good::good: Just wanted to say thank you for this post, the links to the image files and the flash-all BAT file. This really saved my butt with a Project Fi Moto X4, which I had rooted using Magisk before checking on the availability of factory firmware images from Motorola. (of course there are not any available from Motorola ) The phone was continuously prompting for an OTA update, which would fail. I first tried the Magisk uninstaller, which ran successfully in TWRP, but the OTA update was still failing. After some digging on Google I found your post and used the Project Fi image to flash the phone, it worked perfectly! There was an OTA update available after flashing (The May 2018 security patches, "28.2") and it installed successfully. I love the Android community, the XDA community, and folks like yourself who take the time to write posts like this. Seriously, thank you!

Hello!
I understand you have Android One version. If that's the case, anyone catching the URL to OTA for the Android One 28.2 update? I've been looking for it for days, and the OTA link generator is not working (at least with the data I'm providing which should be correct).

how long before we see one. I have been relegated to using an iPhone 6 32GB! I really NEEEEEEED my phone to not be bricked. I tried to do the blank flash and boot off sd card and all that to no avail. none of it worked. meow I am getting so frustrated.

Daisy 10.0.7.0 fastboot rom

As I recently succeeded in getting my first ota update done on this phone, I have used it to create a fastboot rom by extraction from my own phone.
There are 2 important points to note:
1] This is not an official rom, it is just an extracted one. It has been tested by extracting it from one slot and flashing it to the other where it worked perfectly, so there is no reason it shouldn't work for you but I can't guarantee it. Make sure you have a way of getting back to where you started from before you choose to use it.
2] I have included both a patched and a stock boot.img in the zip. You MUST remove the one you don't want before you flash, otherwise this is not going to work at all. My phone is rooted so I have tested the patched boot image, but not the stock boot as I have no use for it.
If it sounds too risky for you then wait a couple of weeks and hopefully Xiaomi will produce an official version.
So with those warnings out of the way, here is the link - hope it works for you.
