Has anyone successfully (or have any info regarding) converted from a SM-G930U (7.0) to a SM-G930T (8.0)?
I have a completely stock, working S7 SM-G930U (that I previously converted from SM-G930V), updated to the latest Unlocked 7.0 version. I was eager to get Oreo, but didn't want to wait for 930U firmware so decided to just switch to the T-mobile version because I'm on a T-mobile MVNO. However, when I tried just flashing the G930T files with Odin it fails right after the "emmc_appsboot.mbn.lz4" step (whatever that is). This made the phone unbootable and would just boot loop.
I was able to successfully recover the phone by re-flashing the G930U files again after downloading from Updato. So the phone is working again, but I'm right back where I started.
So, my question is: Is there something different that I should be doing, or some other secret to go from U -> T, with the intent of getting Oreo? Would it work if I flashed the 7.0 version of 930T, then taken the OTA update?
Edit: As indicated in the responses below, the solution is the latest Odin version (3.13.1), and I successfully converted. Good luck!

You need to update your Odin. Oreo ROMs use a new compression format that your old Odin can't handle.

Update to what? I was using 3.12.7.
Edit: OK, looks like I found it. 3.13.1 is for Oreo, etc. Thanks for the heads-up.
Hi. I have the same Verizon s7 and have also got a 930u rom on it but I am desperate for Oreo. Have you managed to successfully flash the 930t oreo rom? And if so where did you download it from?

Yes, I was successful. You can get the firmware from Updato here: https://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?q=SM-G930T&exact=1&r=&v=Oreo(Android+8.0.0)&rpp=15
But ignore their update instructions, as they are outdated and meant for Nougat and below. You need Odin 3.13.1, from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/how-to/guide-flash-oreo-g955fxxu1crb7-using-t3755789.
If you try with an older Odin version it will soft-brick your device (as I found). Otherwise flashing instructions are simple and the same as when you switched to 930U.

I can't get it to start. I've loaded up the firmware into odin, connected the phone in download mode and it won't start flashing. What could I be doing wrong and is it worth doing anyway?

I can't tell you if it's worth it (I think it is). But you also need the Samsung USB drivers installed on your PC, and you need USB debugging turned on, etc. Make sure you have a working connection before flashing.

Define "bloatware thing". There's like half a dozen T-mobile apps, plus a small handful of other "pre-installed" things like Whatsapp, etc. Virtually all of them can be disabled. The only one I've found that can't is the official T-mobile account app. But I just cleared the apps data, and never use it. I'm not logged in or anything, so it sits there idle.
Regarding "laggy", I can't really say. It works as well as Nougat did. And I think I can say the battery life is definitively better.

I had flashed my smg930a with smg930U firmware. after that everytime I restarted my mobile, it showed error " no network connection " sometimes it picked up network after a restart and sometimes it picked up network after weeks. Tried flashing smg930a firmware again but the error remains same. Now i flashed it with smg930t firmware hoping the error will end but it shows "searching" and I've no network connection.
any help will be great.
Hi, there's bloatware and it's mildly annoying as is the t-mobile splash screen and sound effect. I'll switch bach to 930u when Oreo is available. You'll also have no data toggle swith in the shortcuts when you pull the screen down. However, I added mine using adb. You can also uninstall programs uing adb but I haven't. If anyone has the adb script for removing t-mobile apps I'd be greatful if they'd post it.

Call your network provider or carrier and see if they can change the settings or to make sure your data settings are set up right. Things like apn settings, network, etc.

What network SIM are you using? You kind of need to match the firmware with the carrier you are using, as it enable certain radios. That being said, the 930U should work universally. If it doesn't, then you probably didn't update or use the right APN settings to enable LTE. You'll have to do some online searching to look for the appropriate APN settings for your carrier, especially if you are using a firmware version that doesn't match your carrier.

Open Odin. Wait for Com connected prompt.
Click BL button. Select the SM-G930U BL file.
Click AP button. Select the SM-G930U AP file.
Click CP button. Select the SM-G930T CP file.
Click CSC button. Select the SM-G930U CSC (NOT HOME_CSC) file to wipe and factory reset the phone.
Click Start and wait for Odin to say “Complete.”
Any feedback? Suggestions? Anything I missed?

In some of the reading I have done it appears advantageous to have the carrier modem of the service provider you use; I'm assuming because the carriers tweak the modem for use with their particular infrastructure.
I don't know if that's true, but I have seen a number of posts to that effect. It sounds logical and I figure it can't hurt as long as it works.

I doubt it.
I've been using U-version (converted from SM-G930P) on T-mobile for a year and found no issues whatsoever.
I was reading the opposite, something like U-version has more LTE bands unlocked (which makes sense as it should work with all carriers)
Also someone here claimed it has extra bands for Europe. like band 7, 20

Unfortunately I may not be flashing anything as every time I have downloaded firmware from SAMOBILE and extracted it I have got an error message that the AP portion has a problem. If I "retry" it gives me the same error. If I "skip" it unpacks everything except the AP file. I have tried several times with multiple downloads. Each one took the full two hours to download, so it's been a lengthy process with no results.
When you flashed the G930U which variant did you use?

I flashed version G930UUEU4APL2 with odin 3.12.3
It was back in January 2017. Note the number 4 in the version. This indicates bootloader version.
I believe you can no longer flash this version if your current version has 5 (or any greater number) in place of 4 because you're not allowed to downgrade the bootloader version.
Sprint is known to bump the bootloader version from 4 to 5 for (supposedly) blocking this type of conversions of their branded phones.

Sprint is currently on bootloader 6, actually. Crappy obstructionist commercialism specifically to block people converting.
I have been denying and rejecting the software updates since May of 2017 which is when I got that software version, so your G930UUEU4APL2 firmware from January would not work on this phone as my Sprint firmware is more recent.
I should be able to flash the most recent version of G930U, however. I just can't seem to download one that will extract the AP portion. It's really frustrating.

What ROM have you been running?
Looks like slim pickins for the snapdragon chipset.
I assume all Exynos ROMs would obviously not work .
I have a SM-G930VL that I flash the G930U firmware . Much better

This is what I was saying. The last Sprint update I did on the phone was May 2017. I have been dismissing the update nag since then. Which means I could flash any G930U firmware with a date later than May 2017 with the same bootloader number.
Sprint has been trying to block this: their bootloader number is currently on 6, all the other carriers are on 4.

Yep. The link I used to download the latest version was in the first post of this thread. 3.13 worked just fine.
The problems I was having had to do with the my computer, but I solved them and was able to to flash the latest version of G930U.
The phone is snappy and without the annoying lag.
Call quality improved immediately. With the Sprint firmware on the T-Mobile network there was a glitch with using the voicemail icon on the dial screen - it would fail to call the voicemail and give an incomplete call error; the workaround was to call myself from contacts and enter my pin to get to my voicemail. Now the voicemail icon on the dialer takes me to voicemail without a hitch. When calling it doesn't have a 15 - 20 second wait before ringing the number (the top left of the status bar would read "Attempting"). Internet reception is also better especially in the NYC subway.
Also as soon as my phone went from Sprint to T-Mobile I could no longer send or receive pictures via text. Apparently Sprint firmware wasn't interested in sending MMS messages anymore, but with the U firmware they work just fine and regular texts go through more quickly as well.
So far battery life is about the same as far as I can tell, maybe a marginal improvement. Nothing to call home about.
But mostly I seem to get the overall desired reception improvement: it stopped dropping calls, and the call quality is solid and the undersea world that had been happening with the Sprint firmware is gone.
Also the fingerprint scanner is working better.
It's much improved.
I REALLY like how it seemlessly goes from voice on network to voice on WiFi.
Question: will this get OTA updates? Is it fantasy to think the G930U will get Oreo?
I am interested in testing the various towers, most frequent LTE bands, signal strength, and handset radios. Is there a thread for that or any apps you know of?

Yes it will get OTA updates including Oreo. U-version lags behind branded versions in this regard though.

Hey guys so I am brand-new to all this but need to convert my g930p to g930u. I just want to clear this up: because my software version is Q930PVPU6CRE7, I won't be able to flash the version OP used but must find a version with a 6 in it?
I'm in the same boat with my wife's phone. Limited bands available meaning it's on 3G more often than not, and MMS won't work if connected to WiFi. Not to mention the sprint junkware... is there any way to change from G930P to a G930U firmware if the phone is currently on bootloader version 6? I don't mind rooting...
I flashed G930U on G930P but network still not working. It shows unknown network and Radio Off. Mobile can read SIM menu and Contacts but no signal. Any help please?
EDIT: Now I know that changing ROM or rooting does not network unlock.

if i try this method to convert smg930u to smg930f will it work cuz meh need root ?
Hi guys. This is my very first post here. I searched all over the internet for my problem but nothing. But it seemed that similar questions redirected me to this forum and that's why I decided to join.
So, all started this morning, when the colors of my Galaxy S7 Edge became faded, it was more noticeable on the black color. I tried to find a solution online and they suggested doing something under Developer Tools. The next problem and my big big mistake, was that I unchecked and rechecked something, that after restarting my phone, wouldn't let me enter, showing a text "Custom binary blocked by FRP Lock". I searched for a solution and I saw that the only way was to install a new firmware.
I always thought my phone was SM-G935FD, because that is what it read on the "About device", but at the download screen it showed SM-G935W8. So I downloaded a firmware for the SM-G935W8. This is what it says also on the back of my phone, i noticed it just some minutes ago. So I went and I searched for W8 firmwares. I got the 6.0.1 from Canada and Bell carrier if I am not mistaken. I did the instalĺ. It started well, but after some updates it went from 6, to android 7 and it blocked my actual carrier. I can't make any phone calls.
Now I don't know what to do. I live in Albania and I purchased the phone here, it was a used one. I think at some point the phone was rooted because I had some very strange apps that has to do with rooting apparently (I never rooted a phone and I don't know much).
I want to know if there is a way to have an unlocked firmware. I don't even know what carrier was the phone on the first place.

Try flashing the SM G935FD, it probably had the G935FD firmware flashed on it so that it would work in your region, flashing G935FD again might make it work again.

Okay but, which version of FD? Because I search it and I see versions for countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Nigeria etc etc, and I am not sure if it will be a locked version again.

If it was rooted before, it was probably rooted so that some things could be modified to make it work in your country.
You said you flashed an android 6 firmware then you did an OTA update to android 7. That might be a problem because it might not be able to root again in order to make the modifications that were originally done to make it work in your country.
Here is a link to all the Russian firmware for SM G935FD, try the 6.0 firmware, try the various 6.0 firmwares and see if any of them work. After flashing the 6.0 firmware, if you get a notification saying there is an update available, DO NOT ACCEPT IT, keep the 6.0 android version. You will probably still be blocked by FRP, according to XDA rules, we can't help you bypass FRP, you'll have to figure that out yourself.

Once you get FRP straightened out, do some searches for:
"How to root SM G935FD"
Then you can work on getting it configured to work in your region on your carrier. Sometimes this involves flashing a separate modem(radio) file that has been extracted from a different firmware in order to make your radio work with your specific carrier. You might be in for more than you bargained for. I don't know which specific modifications you'll need or what files you'll need to make it work in your region, im just trying to give you an idea of what you need to look into.
You can try some of the Russian android forums, someone there might know how to make the device work in Albania. You might want to ask around in those forums first before you try anything, that way you won't waste time trying things that might not work. It will save you time if they know where you need to start and what you need.

I bought an S7 from eBay, it was marked as a "new" and "UK" phone. I factory reset the device on receipt and apparently worked fine to start with. However, there have been a few problems (poor signal, battery life, echoes in video calls) and I noticed the device was still on Android 6, so wondered if an update to Android 8 might help (?).
There is no menu option available to update Android so I started looking into flashing firmware. On further digging, the device seemed an official SM-G930F but "United Arab Emirates" appears in the "About Phone" section.
I downloaded some stock firmware (Android 8, UK Vodafone which is the network I expect to run it on) and tried flashing with Odin 3.13 and it failed with error "unsupport dev_type" on the phone screen. Any suggestions?
I also noticed that in "Download mode" the phone said it was a "SM-G930V". I wondered if this was why the flash had failed. For the SM-G930V I only seem to be able to get USA/Verizon stock firmware. Might this work or would I have trouble using this in the UK?
Any help would be much appreciated. I'm a newbie in this area so apologies if any of these questions are answered elsewhere.

Go to the play store and install Sam phone info, then look at what chipset it lists, you don't want it to be Qualcomm Snapdragon, Eyxnos is what you want to see.
G930V is US Verizon firmware

Thanks for your reply! The "hardware/board" is "qcom/msm8996". Where does that leave me?
I noticed that the Bootloader & Baseband Versions begin G930VVRU but the PDA and CSC versions begin G930FXXU. Not sure if that means anything.

Well the person who sold it to you is a liar for starters, it's not a "brand new UK device", it's a US S7 (G930V) Originally bought for the Verizon Network in the states. They are difficult to do anything with as the Qualcomm boot loader is locked down.
So your first option is to update the firmware to the latest Verizon Oreo, probably not worth it since that firmware is designed to work on a couple of frequencies only.
Next option is to flash unbranded US firmware with a modified version of Odin that ignores mismatch devices etc and just installs the firmware. You will need to use this version of Odin from this thread >>> here Odin 13 PatchD.zip is the one you want.
Unzip, run Odin, place phone into download mode flash firmware. You will need to download G930U from Sammobile or undato.com The 3 letter code should either be USC or XAA.
Any questions please ask.
Also before flashing please remove you google account off the phone.

Presumably using this version of Odin carries a high risk of bricking the phone if I get anything wrong?
Out of interest, what's the reason for removing the Google account?

Because it's a further complication with FRP lock you just don't need after flashing. Just add the google account after flashing and your good to go.
With regards to flashing yes there's always a risk that something can go wrong, that's why you take your time and follow the steps exactly. In your case it's pretty straight forward and remember nothing changes on the external SD card, so anything you want to keep can be moved there before flash.
I would also mention that theoretically you could flash UK unbranded (BTU) but it's for G930F Exynos devices so best at this stage just get the device on unbranded Qualcomm and working on UK networks.

Hello,
I've just tried doing what you suggested (I think!) and I got a failure. Odin said "FAIL! (Auth)" and the phone said "Secure check fail: apnhlos". I tried rebooting and got a security error. So I tried Odin again and it passed.
However, now the phone won't boot, it alternates between "Samsung Galaxy S7" and a blank screen. In recovery I get:
"#fail to open recovery_cause(No such file or directory)#"
#Reboot Recovery Cause is [UNKNOWN]#
No Support SINGLE-SKU
File-Based OTA
Supported API: 3
dm-verity verification failed..."
Any ideas?

Ok, so try an earlier G930V firmware and please make sure you are placing the file in the right places with Odin. The US carriers have all updated their firmware and often closes the loophole which allows the patched Odin to work. Then it's just a question of waiting until someone develops a workaround again.
Also you can pick up an S7 from ebay for about £100 now, your always going to have problems with a qualcomm device on UK networks. Where about are you in the UK?

Thanks! Actually shortly after posting I found a suggesting of using CSC not HOME_CSC, which enabled the flash to work (at the expense of phone data, as expected).
The device still does have a few issues though, as you predicted. Is the radio hardware different for Qualcomm? Might need to buy another then. Any advice to avoid being scammed on eBay again?!

Well you could flash G930U which opens up all of the radios for the US and you may have less issues but US and European devices have different chips so your never going to be able to flash any EU generic firmware. I'm addition the US and Europe are different cellular regions with different operating frequencies. You can get by with what you have but never get full functionality.
I think you were just unlucky with this phone on ebay, there are plenty which are genuine EU region devices.
I purchased an "unlocked" S7 about 2 or 3 years ago. Turned out to be a SM-G930T. At the time I was using AT&T, so I recall searching around and finding a way to load the AT&T firmware on it causing it to think that it's an SM-G930A. In order to get the rest of the family newer phones, at a reasonable rate, I switched to T-Mobile, thinking it would be easy just to switch firmware again, but I can't seem to. Using multiple versions of Odin, the best I could do was get into a recovery boot loop. so I ended up flashing the AT&T firmware again (8.0). The SM-G930T firmware fails with every version of Odin I've tried typically stating that the is a Version Dismatch or a Version Mismatch, depending on which one I use. LOL
Any suggestions? I want to get back to T-Mobile code so it matches the IMEI carrier and as a result will be able to use the WiFi calling. Which I can't at the moment.

If it is a true G930T you shouldn't have any issues flashing the latest T Mobile firmware from sammobile. Also there is a version of Odin on the forum which ignores device mismatch and installs the firmware anyway. I'll try dig it out.
I forgot to say T Mobile operates in several countries you must choose the firmware version for your country
