EMUI 9.1.0.332 (C432) download - Huawei MediaPad M5 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi, I had to recover my tablet and it updated to 9.1.0.332. My Magisk patched recovery_ramdisk from a previous version (9.0.x) is no longer working so I'm trying to find a download for a 9.1.0 EMUI ROM. The Firmware Finder doesn't find it and I can't find it through their website either. 9.0.x seem to be the latest I can find.
Not sure how else I can get root back, can I pull an image from the partition itself to patch it with Magisk and flash it with fastboot? I'm reluctant to flash anything (like TWRP for example) as long as I don't have the original firmware to extract and restore the original partitions.
Thanks for the help!

Which tablet version do you have? I have SHT-W09 and I can you provide with a download link for the firmware.
Unfortunately I do have 9.1.0.331 as latest version received on my tablet otherwise I could also provide a patched recovery_ramdisk.img if you have the same model.

My model is 10" wifi only CMR-W09 C432.
I found the full firmware and I have a Magisk patched recovery_ramdisk if anyone wants it.
Link to shared folder with all 3 files.
Direct link to full firmware CMR-W09 EMUI 9.1.0.332 (C432E5R1P3T8).
Direct link to patched recovery_ramdisk.
Direct link to original recovery_ramdisk.

I just have a weird issue getting to boot with Magisk activated. I used to just hold volume up during reboot up until the Huawei boot logo and release. I'd see the three options in yellow and it would continue to boot. Magisk would be active.
Now, I seem to only get Magisk activated with a USB cable hooked up and I am never sure how exactly I did it. When I think I got it, next time it will fail and Im struggling again with pushing volume buttons and powering off/on rebooting. I seem to have the most luck with both volume up and down when the tablet is powered off but that fails most of the time too.
Most of the time I just end up in EMUI recovery (which fails) and need to reboot again.
What exactly is the procedure? Did it change with EMUI 9.1 updates?
Thanks for the help.
Edit: recording this for my own sanity: just now got Magisk activated by powering off with USB disconnected, hold volume up & down simultaneously and connect USB. Release both volume buttons at the Huawei boot logo.

Hello Droidvark, thanks for the file links above, which have been very helpful. However, like you, I struggle to get my M5 pad to boot into (magisk) recovery, not erecovery, and I just don't seem to manage to do it anymore. Either I end up in unrooted mode or erecovery or some huawei usb update screen.
Can anybody help and let me know how I can boot my M5 mediapad into magisk/root/recovery mode? It used to work in the past by pressing the power and volume up buttons until the huawei/android logo appears, but over the last few days it hasn't worked anymore. I did upgrade to magisk 20.4 during that time, and emui 9.1 from 9.0, with the latter being the more likely culprit.
Anyway, I'm very grateful for any advice and help. Cheers, David

'adb reboot recovery' did the trick and all is well now. It's possible the first magisk ramdisk patching wasn't successful on top of that.

llello PrashannaGP,
thanks for trying to help. As expected, the app doesn't start up as it it needs root access. If I could boot into the magisk enabled recovery, then Magisk itself would also provide the option to boot into recovery. Without root access, neither of those two apps can offer that function
The problem is getting the pad to boot the magisk patched recovery partition once, then I'd be in business.

thank you for your help and offer to help me out (further) in case things went belly up. Don't know if it was your detailed description or downgrading Magisk to 20.3 (apparently there is some issue with bootloops or similar on my device and a few others), but it's working again )) I got my rooted pad back and I'm happy and grateful!!
For other users with a Mediapad M5 running Emui 9: remember to use fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk [magisk_patched.img] as per Magisk installation guide for Emui 9+ instead.

Boot into recovery from fastboot?

Hello, I have an Honor 6x, with unlocked bootloader, and wanted to install TWRP so I booted into bootloader
and flashed twrp.img via fastboot, but now everytime I want to boot TWRP it just shows the message:
Your device has been unlocked and
can't be trusted.
To learn more, visit:
*some link I can't post cause I'm new here*
Your device is booting now...
and then it is stuck in this state...
could I eventually boot into TWRP directly from bootloader via fastboot?
Please help guys, thanks in advance. :fingers-crossed:
What version of EMUI are you on? If you're on the 7.0 beta there isn't a working twrp for it.

Hello. Replying here as I don't need a new thread for a very similar issue.
Brand new 6x with EMUI 4. Unlocked bootloader successfully. Using adb/fastboot tool I boot into bootloader, then flash my twrp img. For some reason this goes fine with no errors but takes less than two seconds (cause for concern?).
Now from this point is where I am having trouble. Regardless of what I do, the phone only boots into the EMUI recovery screen. I am aware of holding the volume up key on the first boot after flashing twrp so that it won't be overwritten. I have rebooted the phone manually and also through fastboot while holding the volume up button.
In a new city and only internet I have is thru my phone so this process is really slow due to all the restarts etc. Thanks in advance for the help!

Same problem here. I have a Honor 6x (BLN-L21) with Nougat on it (Build BLN-L21C432B360), unlocked it with the unlock pwd and tried to flash the TWRP (twrp-3.1.0-2-berlin.img) with 'fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.0-2-berlin.img'. After that I get always the same message after reboot or if I try to enter the recovery mode.
Any suggestions?
Thank you
Hi there,
I have found it. To get the TWRP Screen I had to press all 3 Buttons (Volume Up, Volume Down and Power) at startup.
Hope this helps.
Sadly this doesn't work here, on a BLN-L21C432B130 with EMUI 4.x and Android 6.x
3 Button start method brings up always the EMUI recovery screen.
Power Button + Volume up Button works fine here with all TWRP versions up to 3.1.0-0, but never on a newer one.
Additional hint: It works only if the USB cable isn't plug into the device and if the phone was powered down before. That must me the reason why I never get that up, if I'm rebootin using the command $ fastboot reboot cause for this the cable connection has to be used
@all who stuck in bootscreen...flash THIS TWRP...
[LG G4 H815] Just need to reboot into recovery directly...
I have kinda the same problem: I flashed TWRP and a friend of mine told me that I need to reboot into recovery directly after flashing TWRP because otherwise the system replaces TWRP again when I type "fastboot reboot". The problem is I cant shutdown the phone and also the key combination of the LG G4 is not rlly working, I tried it dozens of times on my other one... Is there ANY other way of booting to recovery from bootloader / fastboot? Thanks in advance!
P.S.: I read something about "boot twrp.img"... Is that an option or does it just also flash TWRP?

Honor 6x (BLN-L24) Twrp overwritten by Default Bootloader

I have a Honor 6x (BLN-L24) with EMUI 5+, Android Nougat, all updated. It is the U.S. edition. I unlocked the Bootloader, installed ADB / Fastboot tools and can flash the correct TWRP recovery image (3.1.1-0-berlin.img) but everytime I try to reboot into recovery, the standard EMUI recover overwrites TWRP and I just end up in the EMUI recovery.
I've looked at every forum I can find, articles, etc... but can't wrap my head around this one. If anyone with a similar experience and/or with a solution could help, I'd be most grateful.
Thank you!
I agree with with Rommco05. He IS correct, as I wondered the same thing till I realized to try unplugging it. Also make sure its the Power AND up buttons at same time. If you happen to hold only the up button it will take you to the erecovery feature where it trys hooking to WiFi for updates , which wont help you either.
Still doesn't work
Thanks for the responses. Unfortunately, unplugging doesn't do it either with the key combination you suggested. The following article is helpful for key combinations but alas, it still won't load into TWRP.
It is really strange as I can't even get past "Your device has been unlocked and can't be trusted" screen now. It just stays there...
Super frustrating. I didn't know if it had anything to do with my model being the BLN-L24 US version. I bought it at BestBuy unlocked.
Also, when I try to download "Latest Version and Recovery" from "Huawei eRecovery", I'm getting "Getting package info failed". I
Try OpenKirin twrp from recoveries section here on 6X forums

That's not the cause. My phone is also a BLN-L24 purchased from Best Buy and I have no issues using TWRP. What did you do after you install TWRP? Did you let the phone just reboot or did you try to go into TWRP before rebooting?
This is straight from TWRP website:
"Note many devices will replace your custom recovery automatically during first boot. To prevent this, use Google to find the proper key combo to enter recovery. After typing fastboot reboot, hold the key combo and boot to TWRP. Once TWRP is booted, TWRP will patch the stock ROM to prevent the stock ROM from replacing TWRP. If you don't follow this step, you will have to repeat the install."
Key combination timing?

This is helpful, thank you. I found a page "Key Combinations Clarified for Honor 6x" which has a number of key combinations but nothing is helpful in my case that I know of. Do I use these key combinations imediately after the flash?
Is there a specific tutorial or guide that was helpful for you? I'd be grateful for any further assistance.
Thanks.

Finally got Twrp installed. Rooted and installed custom Rom (lineageos) but when I reboot after flash screen, it's just blank...
If I were you, I would go completely back to stock and start over. Once you fastboot flash TWRP, it is imperative that you reboot back into TWRP before booting into the OS. Also, bootloaders don't overwrite recoveries. They are separate partitions, so your title is a bit misleading.
Regardless, you must still have stock recovery on your device since it is "defaulting" to that instead of TWRP. Like I said, it is extremely important to boot into recovery after you first flash it.
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
let it do it's thing.
fastboot reboot recovery OR you can do it manually in TWRP right after the flash.
Have you tried rebooting to recovery from the system?
Connect your device to your computer, enable USB Debugging, and run
Code:
adb reboot recovery
from Windows CMD or Linux Shell, or any other one you prefer.
If this works, then you are doing the recovery key combination wrong.
Cheers
I'm having the same issue as OP. I have a BLN-L24 from Best Buy in the US. Reverted to emui 4.1 and android 6, unlocked bootloader, flashed twrp-3.2.1-0-berlin.img, and it keeps booting into huawei erecovery.
I didn't get any info on what the OP actually did to get twrp installed.
FWIW, there is no "fastboot reboot recovery"
FWIW2, you can't turn off the honor 6x from the bootloader. the best you can do is a hard reboot.

[Guide] Mate 20 X root is here

Thanks to @topjohnwu, magisk canary builds officially support emui 9, albeit with some caveats.
Note:
This root requires replacing stock recovery with patched magisk init, which will then boot system with magisk support. This means that currently, TWRP or stock recovery and magisk can't exist simultaneously. Also, in order to boot with root, you will NEED to hold down VOLUME UP as the phone is rebooting or booting until the "device is booting" text is displayed. This tells the phone to boot into recovery, which is taken over by magisk init and booted into system with root. Failure to do this will result in the phone booting WITHOUT root or magisk.
I've gone ahead and patched the recovery_ramdisk for EVR-AL00 and EVR-L29.
What is needed:
ADB/fastboot
A computer
A bit of know-how
Step 1: You MUST be bootloader unlocked
-Start by downloading the relevant recovery ramdisk for your variant the AND magisk manager below
Step 2:
-Install the magisk manager
Step 3:
-Copy the recovery ramdisk to a folder with fastboot. Those with environment set up for adb/fastboot can ignore this step.
Step 4:
-Reboot your device to the bootloader. This is accomplished easiest with the adb reboot bootloader command. If you would like to gracefully put the device in bootloader mode, simply power off the device, remove all USB cables from it, but make sure one is plugged into your PC. Once the device is fully powered off, hold down the volume-DOWN key and then press and hold the power button and IMMEDIATELY plug the USB-C cable into the phone.
Step 5:
-Once the device is in bootloader and connected to the PC, run the command "fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk recovery_ramdiskMagiskVARIANT" with VARIANT being whatever ramdisk you downloaded. For example with AL00 you would input "fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk recovery_ramdiskMagiskAL00.img"
Step 6:
-Run the command "fastboot reboot" and immediately disconnect the USB-C cable from the phone. At this point you will want to hold down VOLUME-UP until the "device is booting" message is displayed.
Step 7:
-Once the system is booted, open magisk manager and profit.

It says that cause it detected root. Even if you choose to let it update, it will fail since the patched ramdisk replaces the recovery.

[GUIDE] How To Root P20 PRO Android 9.0 Pie EMUI9 Magisk CTL-L29

First of all the guide i took it from @Vedrick by searching here in XDA. I just opened this post because i found his guide with a little bit hardness and its easier now for ya.
Well lets start. FIRST Back up all your data.
I was on the latest version of CLT-L29 Huawei p20 pro 6/128 9.0.0.195(C432E5R1P9) if you try it on another version let me know
As always, if you do this it's at your own risk.
PREREQUIREMENTS:
Watch my video on youtube that made to help you guys
1) ADB, Fastboot and Drivers
2)Patched boot image
3) A pc of course.
4) Make sure your phone is not bootloop and working
5)Enable Debugging and OEM unlocking from dev options
This is how i got root on EMUI 9 without TWRP recovery
1 - I Flashed Get your phone on fastboot mode FIRST MAKE SURE YOUR PHONE HAS UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER (download it, and move it on your adb folder-default is on C: drive) (press SHIFT button and right click on the adb folder->select open here PowerShell) type the command fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk patched_boot.img
2-Reboot phone, install Magisk manager last apk from google , go into settings, and change the update channel to custom: )COPY AND PASTE THIS LINKhttps://raw.githubusercontent.com/topjohnwu/magisk_files/master/canary_builds/release.json, go back to the Magisk home screen and hit install, download the odd Magisk file.zip file.
3-Reboot phone, press and hold the volume up key if it goes to ERecovery then reboot again and keep pressing like the video.
4-Open Magisk app, install the zip, then patch, and install the downloaded Magisk.zip file if it says direct install(recommender choose this should say this)
5-Reboot phone, press and hold the volume up key and your phone should boot just fine.(like i said above and like i show the video)
6-Open Magisk, install, select direct install option. and reboot.
Note:
1 - Now your phone will reboot into the recovery every time on its own, which is a good thing, you no longer need to hold the volume up key every time you reboot, it does it for you. This means no TWRP.
2 - In order to apps root access for the first time you need to have Magisk open, or you wont get prompted for approval. Then the app will have permanent root access.
3- You can enter fastboot mode from connecting your phone to pc and open adb as i say above and type adb reboot bootloader OR by turn off your phone, press the down button volume and after 3 secs connect the cable on your pc DONT LEAVE THE DOWN BUTTON
Usefull Commands: If you cannot enter bootloader mode ( IS NEEDED ) type this command on the adb , but first connect your phone with your PC/LAPTOP adb reboot bootloader
IF you have any questions fell free to comment bellow. Also i am gonna try some things to flash twrp and have it for ever because @Vedrick i think couldnt flash twrp recovery

FIRST - Once you have flashed recovery_ramdisk partition with the patched_boot.img file through fastboot , and you reboot holding up volume button, the phone boots. But after installing latest magisk manager, even without changing the update channel adress, phone is already rooted and you can add modules, etc...
SECOND - when following the guide step by step, part 4 is a problem because it finds new version and asks tout update. And when you do, the guide says install then to patch the tout install the downloaded file.
That part ils not clear as you do not tell what file to patch at this state....
If you could clear that part it would be perfect.

ok i did manage to root it again. you need to unlock your bl and press the volume up button. i edited the post
I did first time as just flashing fastboot recovery_ramdisk with patched_boot.img was enough when opening magisk manager.
Updating was the issue. SO i downloaded the original recovery_ramdisk 195 , and used that file to patch with the latest version downloaded. Then I flashed in fastboot the new patched_boot.img and all was good to latest version.

Because with yours i was not on latest magisk. Now i can update each time there's a new version by patching the original recovery_ramdisk and flashing the patched_boot.img on fastboot.
I'm curently on 18.2-e05cdc83 (18104)

i have the same version as you. the problem is 1) you cant have twrp recovery 2) when you open a app that needs root you have to open magisk app first otherwise the permissions will fail
unfortunately no twrp recovery ...
You're right I noticed that

You are genius. Thanks working great p20 pro 9.0.0.191c605
Every time I flash the patched_boot.img and restart with volume up into recovery I have a bootloop. I have CLT-L09 pie 9.0.0.1.9.5 with the custom link for magisk. The only way to get out of the loop is to reflash the stock recovery_ramdis.img. But after flashing stock recovery, magisk has no root any more...
Any suggestions why I only get the bootloop after reflashing the patched_boot.img?
Thanks a lot!

Do you have a problem when you try to pull down the quick setting touching the right or left corner of the screen?
That happens to me when I rooted it.
I need to unlock bootloader with some key, or can i just follow the guide?

Magisk on G7 Play XT1952-4 Installed Succesfully

Magisk on G7 Play XT1952-4 Installed Succesfully

(Just a heads up. I have never posted to XDA before but have lurked on here for years. I don't have enough posts to post it in the Dev section. So I apologize if my post format is bad. But I will do my best. Hopefully I am not reporting old news, I've been waiting a few months to finally get Magisk to work on this phone.)
I do not take responsibility if you brick your phone doing this. So do it at your own risk.
Google Drive folder link with all files at the bottom of this post with screenshots as well
Install:
Firmware used during this is PPY29.105_160 (Firmware included in GDrive folder)
BOOTLOADER HAS TO BE UNLOCKED ON YOUR PHONE
I suggest you to backup and factory reset your phone before doing this.
If you're already on this firmware, then I have placed both the stock boot.img and the magisk_patched.img separate as well so you don't have to unzip the full firmware. I haven't tried this with other models of this phone or firmwares. Upgrade to this firmware if on an older version. Multiple ways to do so I'm sure you can figure it out
Copy the boot.img to your phones storage
Install Magisk Manager 7.3.4 aka 239 (APK in GDrive folder). Make sure all 3 options are checked in advanced settings in Magisk. Click install on Magisk and patch the file and locate it on your phone.
Place the patched.img in your ADB folder. Reboot into fastboot. I used CMD in Windows so I ran the following "fastboot flash boot magisk_patched.img"
Toggle up to Boot Recovery
Please Note. When I did the following. For some reason I was unable to get to the stock recovery after doing this. If I remove modules and reboot the phone Magisk is "not installed" however if you reboot the phone and go into Fastboot mode and then select the option of boot to recovery, it boots the phone normal with magisk enabled??? :confused. Eh at this point I'm just glad to have Magisk installed on this phone finally lol. I'm sure you can find the answer in the Magisk in Recovery section here
Magisk should be installed now after booting up. Check Magisk Manager to verify.
Notes:
I tried to install one module just to verify it wasn't a fluke and I was able to do so successfully
Once again I apologize if this post is unorganized or anything. Running on little sleep
I will do my best to answer any questions you might have from my experience when I am able to.

Nice work OP. Well written guide. Clear and concise.
i need some help i tried this method and ended up loosing baseband idk what i did wrong i have a retail varient , tried flashing stock rom multiple times do we have a persist.img to get the phone booting again ? twrp wont even boot i get the failed to many links error to see if wiping the phone that way would make it boot i flashed to both banks i have the XT195-4 varian
Use rsd lite to flash full rom it will reset your phone then enable usb debugging so you can reboot to fastboot then follow the instructions

Thank you I managed to create a flash.bat with revived the phone I can confirm working on retail varient firmware 138
Ok this is a bit odd. Managed to get magisk installed. Rebooted and magisk is no longer installed. Figured I would have to reboot recovery again. Now whenever I go to boot recovery in the bootloader it just falls back to the bootloader.
The recovery option in magisk will not stick either it seems
Edit: Not sure what happened. I reflashed the stock firmware for my device, went through the steps again, and now magisk seems to have stuck. I do have to boot to recovery, but that was to be expected according to the documentation.
Oh Viper4Android, how I have missed thee
Edit 2: It appears the reboot to recovery option in magisk is what is breaking my install. As long as I do not try to reboot to recovery from anything outside of the bootloader, magisk sticks. Not sure what the cause for this is, but for now it is best to stay away from those options in Magisk
Edit 3: Not sure what the issue is, but after some tinkering, and a reboot, booting recovery to get magisk loaded does not work. Reboot to recovery takes me straight to the bootloader. If I click start the phone boots without magisk, and if I hold the button combo I get the stock recovery, but magisk appears to be gone
Please help
I flash wrong boot so I reflashed the entire firmware then patched the boot.img of the firmware I just flashed, all ok.
I flashed the patched boot image and toggled volume key to recovery but have no options there, so have to start phone by holding power button.
When phone boots up magisk is not installed. This is killing me so close yet...
P.s I omitted erase user data and erase DDR and phone is exactly as I left it ?

I have flashed the patched boot to both banks and still magisk not installed, what's all this talk about booting from recovery, I can't do anything from recovery except hold the power button to restart the phone.
Any further suggestions?
Ok here's what worked...
Reflashed all firmware and restarted phone,
Flashed patched boot.img and in fastboot on pc "fastboot continue" phone rebooted.
Back into fastboot on phone and selected "recovery" phone rebooted and Magisk installed.???
Many many thanks to op and everyone involved.
Can anyone make a video with installation of Magisk on this device, PLEASE!! Will be more easy..
I am thinking my original problem is with Magisk itself. For some reason I randomly lose root after a restart, and booting recovery just goes straight back to the bootloader. It hasnt happened to me again, but it happened twice yesterday.
I am usually good a bug tracking, but I have been unable to narrow this down to a specific thing.
Anyway.... today things are working great.

Can you bring me your steps for install Magisk on your device with variant that you have, please?
I would suggest for people having trouble with getting magisk installed
A few things to note
No will need to boot into fastboot then use volume keys to
Select recovery option Everytime you boot or you won't be rooted
Stay on the beta of magisk cause stable is not ready for our device
If you brick use rsd lite with latest firmware
Thats on https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/channel/official/
How to boot in fastboot is volume up and power key
When you flash firmware via rsd lite it will factory reset your phone
Then after that setup your phone but don't connect to WiFi or do
Just enable developer options
USB debugging
Plug phone into PC
If you don't have the us varient of the phone get the firmware for your phone
transfer the boot.img from your firmware to your phone
install magisk manager from the original post
Then follow the instructions to install magisk
ALSO MAKE SURE YOUR BOOTLOADER IS UNLOCKED
Or you will brick your phone
Hope that helps
I have had a successful install pretty stable been running great for I think 3days now
Mods I installed
Viper4android
Energized
Edxposed needs riru core to work
Gravitybox for pie requires edxposed
Anyone have the boot.img for firmware
PPYS29.105-134-2
