It's up! https://www.xda-developers.com/andr...al&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer
Trying to decide if I can live without root and give it a go.

Looking forward to hearing experiences, bugs and what not before I make the jump.

Did it! So far so good. I'm going to see if root will work, tested calling and messaging and stuff and it seems fine. I didn't wipe either.

No root but that was pretty well a given.

New animations are really smooth. A lot of cool little bounce effects.

There is a new partition that appears to be part of the early boot process so Magisk will need some work. Mr. Wu is looking at it, but it may be trial and error on his part until source is released.

I wonder if this still works?
adb shell sm set-isolated-storage off
Is it just me or is Android getting boring. I see no innovation is this new release. I'm starting to think I have been here too long. Apple will never be an option for me. I will definitely live with the incremental iterations of Android but am loosing my passion. Show me something earth shattering like you once did.

you said you didnt wipe, but it still delete all you data in phone right?
im in non unlocked bootloader

Just installed the OTA about an hour ago. So far all of my apps are working ok, including Chase and Capital One. Google Pay I have not tried using yet at a machine.
The only thing that I am missing is the voicemail tab on the dialer. Also my galaxy watch is a bit sluggish right now, but that may be due to low battery.

Remove -w from the fastboot flash all batch file
*Sorry read that wrong initially. I don't think the ota file wipes automatically but I can't say for sure.

Root may take awhile, Google removed /sbin from the root directory. That is causing him issues. No TWRP isn't helping either.

Has anybody on Google Fi that uses an e-SIM flashed the preview yet? I haven't been able to get my service to fully activate since flashing. Calls and texts can still be made, but the fun things like RCS and VPN can't be used until the service is activated.
Just curious. I know it's a preview and things will be broken. I'm more looking for corroborating information and if anybody's discovered a workaround.

Download Fialer from PlayStore and do a Sim Switch or mess with the cellular info in fialer other than that mine is up a running fine which I use Hangouts for msg.

Hi All, Sorry for the Newbie question... I have a Pixel 2 and 3 as a play around phone as I use an S10 for my work/main line...
So, would love to give 11 a go... Last time I just received an OTA to join and I see OTA being mentioned ... So just curious do we have to flash this first beta manually or can we get access via an OTA?

You have to flash this one manually. They don't release the sign up until beta 1. This is still in developer preview stage, though extremely stable.

Can use dual sim on 3xl ???

AT&T Tribute Y536A1

For anyone who got the new Tribute GoPhone by Huawei for AT&T. I found out that the bootloader can be unlocked by following these directions:
http://translate.google.com/transla...al-bootloader-unlock-fuer-alle-huawei-phones/
Hopefully there will be a way to root it soon!
EDIT: Okay well it showed it was unlocking but now it says phone locked again, so I don't know....
Have you tried with zzkey option? Do you know if this phone same as Huawei Ascend Y536-A1?
Looks like someone already figure out a way to unlock it, but still trying to root it.

I'm getting this phone on Tuesday. So does this "bootloader" have to be unlocked to be able to root this device? I'm kind of a noob when it comes to this stuff. The Tribute has TONS of bloatware so rooting it would be great.

I think so. I just emailed HUAWEI and they gave me the unlock code and you just replace it with the UUUUUUUUUUUUU in that tutorial.
Their email is [email protected]
Over in another XDA thread they posted that they finally have a CWM Recovery & Root for the Y550 (which as it has been noted is EXTREMELY similar to the Y536a1). Cannot guarantee it will work on the Y536a1, but seeing how similar they are it may be worth a shot! All you need to get started is an Unlocked Bootloader (which is readily available by e-mailing Huawei). I would try it on the Y536a1 I bought for my Mom, but it's her daily driver and if it doesn't work I'll never hear the end of it... LINK FOR THE BRAVE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57359697&postcount=13
didn't work for me
It didn't work for me, I followed the instructions, I have the bootloader unlocked, but when I click the install-windows file, It installs recovery and get a message that says press any key to continue, afterwards, when I try to boot into recovery by pressing volume up + power, I get back into the bootloader, no matter what combination I use.
Tribute phone question
The previous question was dumb, but I will change this to say that the general code does not work for my Y53A1
Should have a custom recovery in a few days when I get time. Unlocked bootloader required of course. I also have the stock rom. I will open a new thread when it's ready with a tutorial.

Clearing out the AT&T bloatware will clear up about an additional 150 MB or so of system rom was the first thing I did. I had to change the permissions of /system/app /data/app to full read/write to tinker with it. I thought just because ES3 file manager was in root mode I could add/delete apps without any of that, but apparently not. That's probably common knowledge to everyone here, I'm new to this.
I got a few phones and I kept going back to this one because of the incredible battery life. You'll notice that battery saving features are turned on by default in the stock rom, combined with the Qualcomm MSM8926 chipset in it gives it a good recipe for me getting 6 hours of screen on time on about 20 hours of battery with both wifi and LTE turned on. I can go for days if I'm just using casual screen on time.
After installing an xposed module for OBB on SD, this phone that comes with little over a gig of usable internal storage becomes possibly the best value LTE phone here in the US in my opinion.
Huewei tech support from [email protected] ignored my first email requesting an unlock code. A week later I sent it again and had it in an hour. I thought that might be helpful information to everyone. So don't give up. :fingers-crossed:
Thanks stevotdo for the hard work.
a HUGE thanks to stevotdo!
I think we should get a main thread going because there are like 5 I counted with people posting.
I need a good usb tether app. Easy tether has issues with my laptop.
I also want to activate the navbar on this phone.
Xstana on Xposed didn't work.
Did you have to disable the resource hooks api? There was a warning after I installed xposed saying that Huawei stock roms don't play well. I want to use Gravity box!!!!
Advice?

All I know is that the LTE radio is awesome.
I put mine on Straight Talk (at&t) I get the basic 5d/1u HSPA+
On LTE: I maxed out Speedtest.net on 4 different servers on the down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's like 50Mbps. Upload hit 12.
Crazy!
This is going to be one of the under the radar surprise devices of the year.

I sent the "request unlock code" email [email protected], then again yesterday, and I did not see any response yet. Does anyone else not able to get unlock code ?
Remember there's a major time difference between the US and there I send mine at about 2 a.m. Central us time and it took about 5 hours to get it back because it was pretty much afternoon over there so you may want to send a real real late because it'll actually go to a personal open it up and not sit there overnight for somebody to open their email the next day

Note 5 Update ~ 296MB Just Became Available On My PHone

Unless I missed it, I haven't seen a thread on this....just received a 296MB update which is installing now.
I got it too. I did notice that they put the APN Settings back in under ##3282#....Edit. However, mine was greyed out.
Got the update here in Nolensville, TN.

Prior to this update you couldn't even access the APN Settings through ##3282#...Edit. You could only see it in the View option. Now, its back in Edit but you can't do anything with it as its greyed out. This is a good sign that hopefully Sprint will give us the option to edit our APN Settings again.
Pretty sure Sprint isn't going to allow you to turn on Hotspot. You'll have to do it with SQLite Editor. I've been on Samsung devices since the S3 came out. APN has never been editable. The fact it was on the Note 5 here was just an oversight.
Just for conversations sake, can anyone else confirm the size of the update? Mine said 269 not 296. Not that I'm taking it tho rooted with TWRP.
Does anyone know if this update effects my ability to flash over to another rom like MOAR 4.1 ? I am guessing it shouldnt matter if I flash to the older firmware first but I want to be sure.
Just got the update this morning. Hotspot still working.

AT&T update

Wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything. AT&T dad not pushed the update that Samsung and the other carriers have, correct?
Had the phone since the 7th, nothing on my end yet. Manually checked once last week.
I have had mine since the 7th too and no update.
Samsung has created one for AT&T, but AT&T has not certified it yet.

Hey norbarb, do I need to disable substratum themes on note 8 before i get an OTA? I keep checking manually and it says system is up to date, is substratum applied themes blocking the OTA somehow? Or will it update on its own and screw up my phone? I have substratum enabled themes and still can't get the new OTA as of today... Thanks for any advise!!! Your always a GREAT help!!

Try setting your clock ahead like 3 or 4 days. I think it's set up so it actually only checks once every 48 hours so you can't flood the system by just hitting check now over and over again. Setting your clock ahead sometimes helps

Thanks. I had seen some information indicating we MIGHT get some iteration of 7.1.x before getting 8.0. Who knows when we'll get 8.0 though. It's in beta now for the S8/Note 8, but even for those phones it's still probably going to be at least a couple of months before they get 8.0. And we definitely won't get it before they do...

I am guessing they are referring to this one.
I think it also updated the bootloader

Correct, it went from binary 4 to binary 5. From what I've read and gathered once you take the update you can't downgrade firmware because the older ones are using binary 4

One minor (major) thing they left out of the change log. People are complaining on the S7 forums because they can no longer flash to U firmware. I haven't tried it, but I've also seen people have issues with rooting now because they need an updated eng_boot.
Does anyone have this firmware for download? it's not on Samfirm yet and now im stuck in a recovery loop and trying to flash the previous firmware fails due to the new bootloader. Google shows nothing.

I'll confirm that this hotspot method still works after this latest update! It was one of my concerns.

Were you able to get this yet?
Here is the Sprint firmware, for use with Odin, from the newest release. I can't take credit for finding it -- I requested it in another thread and someone posted it for me. I have now put it on my GD (the link below), just in case the original one goes away.
