split screen and one hand mode - LG V50 ThinQ Questions & Answers

hi,
I didnt find anywhere the answer: how to triggen android split screen mode?
I'm not talking about double screen accessory, i dont have it! Just regular split screen in half.
Normally on LG G7 it worked by pressing longer the switch task button.
Same question about one hand mode, how to trigger it?
thanks !!

I have been looking for the same feature! I wonder if it's a bug with the recent Android update on the LG v50?

I haven't these problems with my v50 korean kt 20o android 10 April patch. For the one hand mode function, do you have enabled it in settings? Do you have tried to factory reset?

Screen Pinning

On my previous phones and through reading around unpinning a screen required the user to hold both the recents button AND the back button. Does anyone know why the S6 and touchwiz only require you to hold to recents button? My toddlers use my phone for apps and kids youtube but they are constantly unpinning the screen cause of their little hands and they way they hold the phone with their thumb right on the recents button.
With the old M8 ir required both buttons to be held and they never unlocked it on their own by accident.
Anyone know why touchwiz has to be different and if there is a way to enable BOTH buttons to be used to unlock?
Not rooted and fully stock but use tasker. Perhaps there is something I could use with that if anyone has an idea.
Thanks.

i have to push recents and back buttons to un pin an app with my galaxy s6, idk maybe you have a fake galaxy s6.
maybe you are doing that in the wrong way.
Nope it's a phone direct from my carriers store so it's not a fake.
Also as you can see in the screen shot the instructions say you just need to hold the recent button.
Did you actually check yours? Maybe you are mistaken that you have to use two buttons on your S6.
Can anyone confirm for me what the instructions are exactly on their phone why trying to pin? Lots of views on this thread but no one is chiming in on how their phone works.
Mine says to hold recent button only too. I'm on 5.1.1 and never checked on 5.0.2 so I don't know if Samsung changed it.
What I've done is turn on the 'Use screen lock type to unpin' option so it requires my fingerprint after holding recents.

Hi thanks for helping out. I'm on 5.0.2.
I like your suggestion but I only use swipe lock so unfortunately I can't do that.
Maybe I'll see if I can get tasker to do something for me.
Cheers.

Mine says recent and back together. I tested it myself and recent alone does nothing but recent and back puts the phone back to normal. I'm on T-Mobile running the latest update 5/1.1

double tap to wake the screen

here's a small thing I have seen on many phones that have come out in the past year or so that I was taking for granted would exist on the s7, double tapping on the screen to wake it and view your notifications.
its one of the smallest, yet most useful (I feel), little tricks that will save tons of time.
I was hoping it'd be in the "experimental" features the galaxy labs have to offer but nada.
any ideas about getting it on there and/or a way to feed this back to samsung while they still have time to implement this?
re:
"double tapping on the screen to wake it and view your notifications."
Hi
since 7.0 : you can directly go to any of the lock screen, - shown by : AOD - notifications, by clicking on any.
but if AOD is disabled, than there is no way to see them, SO a Xperia z3 like double tap to wake would be appricated

you mean its implemented in nougat so we're waiting for it?
it'd be great if we didn't have to have AOD to get that considering how simple and awesome of a feature it is...

Its on other devices as well. Samsung doesn't really have it because they have physical button where others don't. But yeah, they all should have it
having physical button solves screen turn on comfortability so, why we need double tap? it's additional drain for battery

Seriously:laugh: I said less than 1% to not say 0% and for me, Double Tap is way more convenient than having to press a home button. And u could always turn double tap feature off if u don't like it, i.e, if there was ever a double tap feature!
A 'touch fingerprint button' to wake up & unlock the screen like other Androids would also be great.

being s7's button physical, it's not able to unlock device from deep sleep, at least samsung won't include it if it's even possible and having 2tap2wake will be nonsense at this point... well i dont say it's bad feature, but i just try to explain that Sammy won't include it until we got rear mounted half-physical sensor
The KnockOn feature that LG has would never be nonsense on any phone. It is more convenient than waking with the home button. With the button you have to push a button in a specific place on the phone. With KnockOn you quickly double tap anywhere on the screen.

I love LG's double tap unlock, it is most useful especially during one hand operation with these humongous 5.5in phones. It eliminates fear of dropping phone trying to reach home or power button with 1hand.

Remapping the Bixby Button to Launch Google Assistant

EDIT: it's possible, here's my tutorial on remapping the Bixby button! https://www.xda-developers.com/how-...-the-galaxy-s8-s8-to-launch-google-assistant/
Earlier today, Marques Brownlee (MKBHD), posted the following tweet:
First one that makes an app to remap the Bixby button on the Galaxy S8 to Google Assistsnt wins my $$$
Challenge accepted. I bet that it's not only possible, but pretty easy to do.
...the only problem is, I don't have a Galaxy S8. If any one of you (somehow) have a Galaxy S8 already, or if you get one early and want to figure this out, message me at [email protected] and we'll hash this out.
Tagging for updates.

We won't see anything until someone with an actual S8 is willing to test. I won't be able to get my hands on one for weeks until it officially launches, and even then, I'm not sure if I will pick one up immediately.
I'll test stuff. Just gotta get my hands on one first. Still wanted a post in the thread so I won't lose it ?

I'd love to see this happen as well as being able to remap it to quick launch the Camera. Wearing out the Power Button isn't my cup of tea as to how I remember my Power Button failed on me when I had the S3.
Plus, I tried the demo models at Best Buy and it couldn't seem to work in launching the Camera when I double pressed the power button to launch. So...idk.

Even when your phone's screen is off? I don't think that's the case because the options within the Camera settings is to Quick Launch via Power Button as it's stated.

My s7 does it with the screen off. I don't see why the 8 wouldn't. I tested the double push with the screen on at best buy and it worked.

We're still talking about the S8 and S8+, right? I have the S7 Edge and the whole greatness is being able to quickly launch the camera with the Home button it has.
The S8 is something I'm uncertain about. Can't turn the screen off because it goes right into screensaver mode due to being in Retail Store mode. When the screen is on though, I double pressed the Power Button to try and access Camera right away and it doesn't do a thing. It may work with the Home key on the navigation bar when the screen is on (which I haven't tried yet anyhow), but I want to see how you say it would work if the screen is off. Or better yet like I posted originally, remap the Bixby button on the side to Quick Launch the Camera just like the dedicated Shutter Buttons on the Xperias.

We are talking about the 8. I'm sure it'll do it with the screen off. The screen button on the 8 is like the iPhone 7 button.
As far as I know you double push the power button now not the home button to quick access the camera, like on the Pixel.

Correct. I saw this demonstrated in a hands-on YouTube video on March 29th. Which video, I don't recall. I watched like 20 of them that day.
I just tried out the S8+ in a Verizon store that had a working model. The double push of the power button to launch the camera worked fine. It is a setting that can be turned off (like the home double push on the s7 edge). Personally, I'd rather have the Bixby button remapped to be a physical home button. If so, then a long press can launch the Google Assistant. I don't need Bixby and really liked having the physical home button. I hated the virtual button ever since the Galaxy Nexus.
Since the home button area is pressure sensitive, you can also double press that area while the screen is off so it's pretty much the same as previous galaxy phones. I tried it today at the T-Mobile store and it basically worked just like my S7 edge.
This will be a thing for sure. My only doubt is if it will work also for non-root users.
Hmm, just wondering if the Bixby Voice input works with nonrooted S7 edge. I installed it and it crashes... Is it disabled by Samsung?
Really hoping that somebody can make this happen for non-rooted users. Might be possible via a Tasker plugin too? But that wouldn't be as native or fluent IMO. I pre-ordered the S8 on T-Mo and am willing to test out attempts

Tagging for updates. This will be so useful without root, as this always ruins an access to bank apps.
Someone posted this on Reddit.
Just installed it on my S6 to check.
UPDATE:
I managed to map volume key button on Galaxy S6 Edge to do Home action. This app may be very helpful when I put my hands on S8 as far as Samsung will not turn this option off, to try to force people to use Bixby at any cost

[APP] Power Button Flashlight (No Root)

Hello, i was recently experimenting with this Project: https://github.com/epeterson320/flashlight
In android studio. Its a flashlight app with no ui you just tap the icon and the flashlight activates, however i added an intent filter to the android manifest allowing the app to be launched with the "Jump to camera" gesture, this allows you to toggle the flashlight on and off with a double tap of the power button even when the screen is locked.
Instructions
Download and install
Lock phone and double tap power button
Enter your PIN or fingerprint
Select flashlight as default app
This will only work on phones that have the "Jump to camera" gesture. For example Nexus and Pixel phones, OnePlus phones and probably more. It will also replace the camera shortcut obviously. Clear defaults to select camera again.
so yeah hope someone finds this useful
Credit to @epeterson320 for creating the original app.
Download below in attached files
Thank you!!! This is amazing.
Christ this is like the one feature that's a deal breaker for me, Xposed torch is great but not seeing Xposed for android 9 yet; and this works well enough. Great thinking and thank you!
Problem
Hello. I have got a problem. Every time the phone is turned off for a longer period, when i double tap a power button camera turns on instead of flashlight. When I turn off the camera and double tam button again, flashlight works. Have anyone got this problem too? (xz1 compact, 47.2.A.8.24)
Edit: I have found out that when i remove password protection everything works
@James_Ward01 would you be willing to share your source code? I want to see if I can get the app to activate without waking the screen.

The app I have on here for download should work with the screen off as I added both android.media.action.STILL_IMAGE_CAMERA_SECURE
And android.media.action.STILL_IMAGE_CAMERA
Intent filters, the _SECURE one meaning it should work with the screen off. At least this was the case on my Nexus 6p at the time.

It does work with screen off. What I want to accomplish is to keep the screen off when I launch from the lockscreen. I don't want the screen to turn on when I double-press the power button. Maybe this is impossible?

Yes Samsung don't allow the power button to be remapped unfortunately. Glad you found a use for it though.
This works great on the pixel 5, thanks!!
Confirmed, I was using it as well on pixel 5 until now, thanks!
However, new problem :s I couldn't resist trying out Android 12 Beta 3.1 and then no power button access to flashlight anymore.
Same deal for me : Pixel 4a, was using this app daily when I was under Android 11, did the update to Android 12, not working anymore... Sad

Sorry but I'm not sure to understand how your app may help : We're talking about enabling the flashlight using physical button shortcut.
Maybe I missed something but for me that's not what your app is doing, is it ?
Anyway, I'm using Torchie now and it kinda work : You enable it by pressing Vol+ AND Vol- at the same time, but it ONLY work when you're on the lockscreen and the screen is on.
So : "Power" to wake the screen, "Vol+ and Vol- together" to turn the light on or off
If anybody find something better, let us know. For now, this is a little cumbersome but it's working.
The Tap Tap app on GitHub works for flashlight by double tapping the back of the phone.

Starting by movement gone

Hi there, I have a problem with showing my initial screen. Until yesterday it could be activated by movement and/or by pressing the start button on the side of the phone. Today it requires pressing the button, movement doesn't work. Can you help me restore starting my phone by movement? Thank you.

Hello. This is an option you can find on the Moto app. I'm running custom software so I don't have it, but it goes something like "Raise to wake".
Another option is to go to your lock settings → face unlock and enable Raise to wake.
