My screen worked fine earlier today, then out of the blue went dark. It is as if the backlight is set at a permanent low setting. I can barely make out what is on the screen. It is not totally black, but it is by no means easily visible. I have not made any reg changes or application installs that I did not previously have.
Please help. This particular device was an insurance swap out made in November. I have tried hard resetting, and nothing. It is still a very dark screen--even the initial TMo boot screen is dark.
I am running Jaguar 3.1 by NTS.
PLEASE...help. I would very much appreciate any insight. Is my screen fried? Is it able to be fixed?
Thanks in advance.

you can try the prog Mymobiler to see if your today screen is really dark (if it´s dark on your computer too, than i think it´s a software failure) if it´s shown normal on your computer than i don´t know, maybe hardware failure...
sorry can´t help more
steph
I have that program too, and didn't even think about that. I will try it and report back. Thanks for the idea.
EDIT
Everything works fine using My Mobiler. I was able to make sure power and brightness adjustments were made-but to no avail. I even flashed a different rom just to rule out rom failure. My screen is still dark. In bright light I can barely view the item, and that is with some serious squinting.
Could it be my screen needs replacing, or is this a bigger issue like the mobo? If you suspect the screen only, could you please suggest where I can get a replacement screen?
This sucks big time. I love my Wizard and really do not want to move to an inferior device (like a "regular" cellphone, or the Wing--which is what insurance would swap me with).
PLEASE HELP ME FIX MY WIZ!!

The first time I have use a Pocket pc in settings I uncheck the square that say "Turn on backlight whena button i pressed or the screen is tapped".. or something, jeje every time I turned on my wizard, it hasn't light jaja.
But I think that your problem is hardware, you need another wizard to change displays... cause if you buy a new display... maybe the failure isfor the motherboard...
Think about it...

Thanks for your quick responses!!
I was worried that the issue could go beyond just screen issues. Does anyone know a way to troubleshoot something like this? To find out if it is just a screen, or if the MoBo is going out on me...
**Or is anyone willing to sell me their working but no longer used wizard? I can afford about $100 (+shipping costs/insurance) for a used but working device. My hubby is unemployed and I am on disability so right now money is tight.

Check ebay, you maybe able to find a working phone for 100 bucks. Gook luck!
have you checked the wiring (flat cable) that connects to the screen.
maybe you just need to replace that. if the screen works, then it is just the LED's that are not responding. maybe just a loose connection, or a broken contact.
Does the keyboard light up?
i think i have the same problem or at least similar.
my screen backlight goes black from time to time when i press the screen "too hard", but that comes and goes.
interesting: i'm using homescreen plusplus (ex-batterystatus) to overclock my cpu with the option "set cpu speed at wakeup" activated. when i turn off my screen with the power button and then turn it on again, in most cases my backlight turns on, too.
but that's to enerving for me to live with that, so i disassembled my wizard and found some sort of black dot on the flat display connector. maybe it has something do with that? and if so, where can i get such a flex cable?

I have the manual--I used it when my usb was fubar'd--but I am a bit intimidated about doing something with my screen. Is it something that can be easily screwed up if I even look at it funny, or can I handle it carefully and not worry that the mere act of touching it will make it explode??!!
Perhaps I am being a bit dramatic, but you get the idea I think.
Do I have to be totally grounded out first? Do I need gloves on? Or do I just rip the dang thing apart and go at it?
Thanks for your help and responses.

Well I don't have a Wizard, so this might not be much help; however, I have had a similar problem with my Touch Elf after installing a new app. The dark screen did not appear until I performed a soft reset and I really started to panic because there was nothing I could do to change it. I could barely make anything out that was being displayed it was so dark. Even when I turn my screen brightness down it was not ever that dark. Just out of luck though I pluged my phone into my computer VIA USB and voila, the backlight came on. I could use my phone again and immediately navigated to my brightness display settings and turned it all the way up (it was set all the way down for some reason). I have not had this problem ever since. I don't know if you have tried this already or not - It was not mentioned in any posts.
Good luck

Check out eBay for a replacement LCD, I got one last week for € 32,- ($45,-) including the shipping costs.
BUT...when buying from eBay notice the following 2 things:
1) The screens are most of the times used screens with a new (hand-soldered) digitizer on it (but it is done nicely as far as I have seen).
2) Disassemble your Wizard, check if your LCD has a BLACK or a GOLDEN flex ribbon cable at the back.....when you purchase the wrong one, it will not work!
An alternative is just to buy a 2nd hand Wizard for like $70 / $80, buy a new housing for it ($40) and it looks brand new (except for the LCD, most LCD's do have some scratches on it).
A HTC Wizard Service Manual can be found in the Wizard section on the XDA Dev FTP Server (I use it a lot), sometimes when buying a LCD on eBay they will also send you the tools needed to disassemble and reassemble the Wizard.
Good luck!

Heya, i know this has info here and there but here's the deal:
The power button has gone soft lately, it was good but then it became really sensitive to touch "one touch to activate" which was cool, until it started pressing by itself, now when i click it to lock the screen it turns on again, and if i shake the phone or something it'll activate.
But now it goes on and off randomly, and sending me sometimes to the power screen i can even activate it by pressing against the body around the front camera.
any ideas what might be causing it (my guess it's a broken/displaced spring), and please if you have links/guides to fix the thing (teardown vids/whatever) i'll be most thankful ^^
i looked around but i want something specific to our device, thanks! <3

Hardware problem mate. Will need repair. Read about this sometime ago where a user had actually taken the DS apart and fixed a broken plastic lever under the power button that does it... but since the power button presses a switch directly mounted on the motherboard beneath, i'd suggest you refrain from doing this yourself unless you are fairly good with tinkering with electronic innards. I mean software is one thing to mess around with, but hardware has very hairy balls indeed!
P.S. Love the thread title!!

So i am replacing my one x lcd screen.. bought the whole lcd and digitizer since looks like a pain to just do the digitizer.. i got the old one out, put the new one in and power up.. phone vibrates, but i dont get any sounds and no display on my screen.. i have check all my cables too many times, reseating each one, trying everything.. the other thing is once i push the power button to turn on the phone, it vibrates, makes no noises, but if i hold down the power button afterward, the softkeys start flashing several times.. do i just got a bad lcd or is it something more?

Sorry I meant to reply to this yesterday but forgot lol
You need to sync your new LCD.
How do I do that? You may ask.
Plug your old LCD back in, dont put the phone back together, turn the phone on, while it's on, switch LCD's to the new one.
If I'm not mistaken, that should do it. Post back and let me know.

Good Luck. I would assume if you asked on here you would expect to hear an answer you didnt expect or you'd have thought of it
But yes, there are 3 screen types from 3 diff makers. So if you bought a different one, you need to sync it or it will appear to be off. Digitizer will still work.
1) Green Flex (Sharp)
2) Green + Yellow Flex (Sony)
3) Yellow (AU)
try this one http://www.etradesupply.com/oem-htc-one-x-lcd-screen-and-digitizer-assembly-with-light-guide.html
Do instructions exist or are there any hints for the removal of the existing screen?
Videos on YouTube.
Tip: Keep track of where all the screws go. Have unlimited patience. Stay organized. Minimize distractions while working on it. Heed my screen sync post above.

yeah, i followed the video instructions exactly. and youre right, i posted here to find solutions i never heard of or thought of. as far as syncing with old screen i am SOL on that one.. i sent it back today, and ill try out the new one. post my findings here and i am hoping its just a DOA screen and not the phone itself. thanks for the responses.

Sounds like it, but you may want to test another screen with that board just to be safe. I haven't tested extensively the results of mix and matching screens with different boards.

Im trying to replace the lcd (the whole front panel) on a surface pro 1, and have run into an issue. Its for a friend of mine and it was presented to me with the old front panel removed and the new one kinda slapped in there, Im wondering if anyone has a link to a repair guide for it. Ice done many screens before and it kinda seems like its dead. I have all of the ribbon cables connected and none of them look pinched or damaged. Any help/thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

well, the original one was, but the replacement isnt. The person who started the project took the old screen off and replaced it with an entirely new one but couldnt get it to come on, so he gave it to me to work on. Ive connected all the ribbon cables and tried rebooting it, but it wont come on. Is there a way of force rebooting it like there is in android? Ive tried holding the power button down for over 30 seconds and it didnt do anything.

I'm not sure honestly.
I also have a Surface Pro 1 with a cracked screen and would like to replace it.
The cheapest way is to only replace the glass with digitizer http://www.aliexpress.com/item/For-...-Glass-Replacement-Parts-1pc/32368476632.html
I know replacing the whole LCD combo is easier, but is this still doable? For example with this http://www.aliexpress.com/item/100m...ine-to-Splite-Glass-Lens-for/32245814109.html or these http://www.aliexpress.com/item/5ml-...for-Cellphone-Glass-Lens-LCD/32479129528.html tools
Or should I use just use the complete set: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free..._78_77_80,searchweb201644_5,searchweb201560_9
And is this the right set to buy when you want to fix a cracked screen on a SP1 128GB
Hello!
After locking the phone, it happens that sometimes the power button won't turn on the display.
The button is still working, because it is possible to start the Flashlight (long press power button) or open the camera app (double tap power button, can hear the sound).
I'm using the latest lineageos 14.1 version.
Does anybody how to fix this?

As ridiculous as that may sound i think it's a problem with your button, you will have to desolder this and resolder a new one. I used to have the same problem, button didn't work like 2/10 at first, and that rate kept increasing. With use and tear it kept worsening. I bought soldering iron and replaced the button, it now works freakin' great.

Okay that sounds strange. I can give it a try.
Now that i see this Thread again, it's far more likely that your lcd just died or partially did. Although if it turns on sometimes like your state, "that sometimes the power button won't turn on the display" it may be a bad teared down soldering on either the power button on the lcd pcb. Get it to a repair shop and ask for a check, if you don't mine you cant open your back cover and remove the screws so you let the motherboard pcb exposed, with a high quality picture we should be able to see if the power button is the problem or not.

I'm using a cheap replacement from ebay that I replaced myself, and I'm yet to see any issues with it.
most lcd have the problem. i got a lcd thrice now from different manufacturers had the same problem for some extent
digitizer works fine but lcd doesn't have good connection
My Nexus was also sometimes not waking with the power button. A custom ROM flash (Nexus4Ever) worked well, but still had the same problem. Probably related to this I would notice that when the phone did wake it was sometimes taking a few seconds to do it.
After some searching I found a solution under the lineageos forums -- search for BUGBASH-230 (can't post url here because this is a guest reply). Basically, you have to copy (copy them, don't move them) all tzapps files found in system/etc to system/vendor. It worked for me. There's no more delay in waking up and the problem has been gone for a week now. Before the fix it was occurring at least once a day. Try it.
I have same problem with you and this occcurd after change os nougat to Oreo 8.1 on my j7 prime
It's not the display
I have the same issue on my Nexus 7 with 14.1 installed. The mockingbird replies about it being a faulty display or power button are unfounded considering rebooting the device fixes the issue. Only seems to occur when it's been on for a while or has less than 30% battery.
Did anyone ever fix this? I see this on a few versions of Lineage. Disabling the lock screen in System Profiles settings avoids the issue, but then there's no lock screen!
Not The Display, exactly...
Just thought I would throw in my 2 cent observations. I have a Samsung Relay 4G (t699/apexqtmo). It worked flawlessly with its stock software / and official upgrade (I.C.S. & J.B). Once I upgraded to KitKat or Lollipop, the screen backlight would never turn on after waking the device on a single button push. The difference between these versions of android as it relates to waking the device can be found in changes to power management / wake locks code. I am not good enough to figure the ins and outs of this type of programming, but maybe this will give some hacker an idea of how to patch or work around this particular part of the firmware. Thanks!
Just upgraded form stock to LineageOS rooted and all....display wake up worked fine b 4 now i have this problem also it will sometimes eventually wake up but takes forever and many button presses
So, if anyone is till wondering about this, here is the information i believe to fix this bug, that is if anyone can integrate the change into CM KitKat and beyond for our sad old Relay. github.com/TeamApexQ/apexq/issues/24. Any chance this could be implemented through an apk?
Because I really don't want to shell out $$$ for an F(x)tec Pro
