Enabling wifi calling on non cricket samsungs - Samsung Galaxy S8 Guides, News, & Discussion

So this is a hack so to speak
as of right now Crcket does not have a bit 7 firmware but thats ok screw them.
So download any Us multi csc firmware you need for what ever bit number your on.
Flash that in latest odin.
Insert your cricket sim,It will reboot to personalize the device for the new carrier I just did this on bit 7 and am running cricket csc on bit 7 despite not even being released...
Next you must put your sim in any cricket wifi calling enabled device. Setup wifi calling on that device. Put in your address and such...
Then replace your sim back into the samsung device and you are good to go
As you can see from my screen shots my device is originally a cct Xfinity Mobile but running aio latest Jan security patches with operational wifi calling

Verizon S3 / S4 / S5 / Note 2 / Note 3 to Page Plus Flashing with 3G

I want this to be a thread dedicated to help others to flash the mentioned devices to Page Plus / Selectel / Next-G / Service in REAL 3G....
I have been flashing phones for a several years now as a hobby and want to pass on some of my knowledge and advice to others making this transition.
A few things I want to do when time allows as I work a full time job and have a family.. (Not to mention my Flashing Phone Hobby)
1. Keep a list of PRL's that work with Page Plus with no roaming symbol...
2. Maintain a summary of how to get into Diag Mode on all phones and methods to get your SPC/MSL on Sprint Phones......
3. Post useful Apks,, 16 Digit Passwords, and other instructions on flashing the phones.......
4. Maintain a Current List of Page plus Sids for Flashing..........
5. Make this a thread that people can come to and discuss issues etc....
Now I am not good at writing Guides and truthfully at this time have no desire to do so, but I will however try my best to help you along the way when my time is available. So please I ask do not flood my Inbox with request for a guide etc. (Post here so others can contribute and everyone can learn together)
One thing I have learned over the years of flashing devices is its better to think it through and work by trial and error so you can truly learn the skill of performing successful flashes.
(Please everyone keep it civil and make this a community effort to help each and everyone)
Current Status is that I can pull Keys/Passwords on Verizon S3 / S4 / Note 2, Sprint S2 / S3 /S4 / Note 2, US Cellular S2 / S3 / S4 and Note 2 phones, Plus several other Phones and get REAL 3G with no donor on Page Plus / Selectel / Next-G....
(Again let me stress, please do not flood me with request to show you how to do this, as currently I will not post this information, I have my reasons and I hope you can respect that and use this thread for the other benefits you can get from it)
** Note: I did not include Verizon Prepaid or Straight Talk in this due to my beliefs that the cloning of esns/meids to obtain service is not LEGAL **

What is a PRL and what it does:
PRL=(Preferred Roaming List)
The PRL is a list of information that resides in the memory of some kinds of digital phones. It lists the radio frequencies the phone can use in various geographic areas.
The part of the list for each area is ordered by the bands the phone should try to use first. Therefore it's a kind of priority list for which towers the phone should use.
The PRL helps determine which home-network towers to use, and also which towers belonging to other networks to use in roaming situations (areas where the home network
has no coverage.) When roaming, the PRL may instruct the phone to use the network with the best roaming rate for the carrier, rather than the one with the strongest signal at the moment.
Since a PRL tells the phone "where" to search for a signal, as carrier networks change over time, an updated PRL may be required for a phone to "see" all of the coverage that it should,
both with the home network and for roaming.

Android 4.3 Upgrade Methods for Verizon and Sprint Phones
DO NOT DOWNLOAD THESE FILES AND ATTEMPT UNLESS YOU ARE 100% SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING
THIS WILL LOCK YOUR BOOTLOADER FOREVER NO GOING BACK TO PREVIOUS VERSIONS EVER
Let me stress that anytime you flash either with ODIN or normal methods you take the chance of BRICKING your device.
SO be sure you know what you are doing as I am not responsible for anything that may go wrong.....
These will wipe your devices and bring the phone back to like is what was brand new, and should not affect your flash, but then again do at your own risk.....

5. Plug your Phone into the computer, wait for the drivers to install and then wait for the ID:COM section to turn blue in ODIN.

Things Not To Do With A Flashed Phone
1. NO OTA Android Updates Period (You will break your flash)
2. No OTA Programming *228, *22890, *22800, *22801 or any other Variants
3. Some Rom's do not play well with Flashed Phones do your research before flashing.
4. Never do a RTN (Return to Network) Reset ##786# on a Flashed Device (Most definitely will break your flash)
5. Some Radios/Modems cause issues if you flash (If the phone is working leave it be)
6. Factory Reset ( I recommend not to do this also, some versions of Android phones it will break things period)
7. PRLS ..... aww my favorite, everyone thinks these are the answer to all their prayers
a. If the phone is working leave it be (my personal stance)
b. Some PRL's are not EVDO or have not been Modded and will break your 3G or throw the Roaming Symbol
c. I have posted many PRL's above that will work with 3G (Latest one I modded is 60007 for all carrier phones)
8. No Phone Number Change (You change your carrier assigned number, you must reflash)

Why Is My 3G Data Slow?
It's a complaint I hear everyday from people using flashed smartphones performed by them or another flashing provider...
Why are my speeds so slow and is it possible to improve the situation?
There are a variety of reasons why 3G data speeds may be less than stellar, and each one requires a different solution.
Before assuming there's a problem, though, make sure you understand the realistic capabilities of your service.
VERIZON/Page Plus/Selectel:
2G 1xRTT: 50-100kbps download and upload with bursts to 144 kbps
3G EVDO Rev-A: (shows up as "3G" on your phone): 600-1400kbps download with bursts to 3Mbps, 200-800kbps upload with bursts to 1.8Mbps
(Don't get to caught up in running speedtest as these can be very confusing and fool you at times into thinking you have a problem when actually
the way they test and the servers they use get congested also)
POTENTIAL PROBLEM #1: Weak signal
If you're too far away from the tower (or if there are a lot of obstructions/interference between you and the tower), your device won't be able
to pick up a strong signal and your performance will suffer.
Solution: Try other locations in your home or area you are in, some areas do not get great signal strength and this could be your issue.
POTENTIAL PROBLEM #2: Tower overcrowding (Network Congestion)
The bandwidth available from a cell tower is shared amongst all the users connecting to the tower. A cell tower can only provide so much bandwidth,
and the more users there are connecting to the tower, the slower everyone's speeds will be.
Is this YOUR problem? If you notice that your speeds tend to follow a pattern most days (for example, nice and fast late at night or early in the day but slower in the evening when everyone is home from work and school) and you've confirmed that the problem isn't signal-related (by testing your speeds at home and then again somewhere closer to the tower), you'll know your tower is simply being used by lots of other subscribers at the same time.
Solution: Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do about this (other than consider switching to a different provider who might have more capacity at their towers or isn't as oversold in your area).
POTENTIAL PROBLEM #3: Incorrectly Performed Flash
It's very common for flashed phones to have been done incorrectly.
Is this YOUR problem? This is very possibly the source of the problem if your flash was done incorrectly or you made changes to your setup recently.
Solution: You'll need to either troubleshoot the phone and or reflash the problem phone.
POTENTIAL PROBLEM #4: Tower issues
Providers periodically do maintenance or upgrade work on cell towers, which can disrupt service; other factors like severe weather occasionally damage cell towers and cause problems.
Is this YOUR problem? If your service suddenly degrades significantly and doesn't improve much during non-peak hours (which it would if the problem was overcrowding), and you've confirmed it's not a problem with your flash, the problem likely lies with the tower. The best way to confirm is to take your device several miles away where you'll be connecting to a different tower and test there — if everything works fine when connected to a different tower, you'll know something is amiss with your home tower.
Solution: Out of your control, bear with it until the provider finishes work and repairs.....
Potential Problem #5: Sprint and USSC Devices
I hate to say it but I have seen some Sprint/USSC phones have this issue, likely due to weaker radios and or hardware implemented in the device.
Is this YOUR problem? This is very possibly the source of the problem if your flash was done correctly and you verify that other devices on the network in the same location as yours get consistently better data speeds.
Solution: Verify flash is correct and that your connected at EVDO in settings and passwords have passed authentication. If so this most likely a Sprint/USSC device issue out of control by the user. Replace device with another Cellphone Carrier brand and most of the time problem will be solved. (I see this allot with some of the Samsung S3 Devices from Sprint/USSC, almost like certain lots had a weak radio for whatever reason)
In the end your speeds can be related to any or all of these issues, and a proper flash is key to performing at optimal speeds.
Sometimes as much as we hate to admit a professional flasher is needed to correct speed issues, you would not believe some of the poor flashes I see when I read preflashed phones everyday that so called profesSB_Driver_1.5.1

Flashing help
I have 2 phones that I need to get flashed over to pageplus. 1 Galaxy S2 sch-R760 and 1 Galaxy S2 sph-D710. I have been reading and trying to find complete tuts or a reasonably priced service to get these flashed over but no one seems to be able to get 3g working. The R760 I had flashed to PP but I only get 1x data speeds. I have not tried to do the D710 yet. My wife and I are already on pageplus with a DroidX and a Droid X2 so I guess during the flashing process you have to get or PP telephone numbers on the phones since you cannot do a normal ESN swap with customer support on flashed phones. Can anyone help?

Viper,
I have sent you a PM on this. I have been trying to get it to work by reading through the thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1696621 but to no avail. Appreciate if you could help. I am ok with not having 3G if the solution is not complicated.
Long time PP user with new (to me) SIII
Ill send you a pm. I would like to get this working for my wife. I love to tinker and have flashed old VZW phones when we first came to PP, but time is limited for me.
Thanks!
I'm trying to pm you, Viper, but for some reason messages aren't going through. Are you around for a flashing?
First thanks forbthe topic and help. I need to know how to un flash my s3 so I can use it on my contract. I traded for this s3 and did not know it was flashed to pageplus. All help is greatly appreciated.
Happy fathers day.

How to Cricket VoLTE & Wifi calling S9+ SM-G965U

The method outlined below can probably be used on other variants.
My phone started out as an unlocked Tmo S9+ - SM-G965U
Flashing the latest tmo firmware (G965USQS7ETH2) would only yield volte, not wifi calling with cricket. The exact same firmware would give volte and wifi calling withi my free freeup sim (also att based). So the device and firmware is most certainly capable of it, but there's profiles in place restricting it.
As soon as the sim was swapped to the cricket one, phone would reboot, apply csc changes and no wifi calling. Flashing the AIO CSC didn't help either. They purposely block wifi [email protected]#
So, solution is to prevent the CSC change from free up (CSC: ATT) to cricket (AIO) from taking place. But how on an unrooted device???? I decided to use the debloated factory unlocked U1 fw rather than U (less crap to disable later).
My final results is a concoction of fw pieces and some adb magic.
It is important that account/sim is already configured for volte/wifi calling. I did this over chat by providing them an iphone 8 (or 9?) IMEI and confirmed hd voice and wifi calling was enabled on the profile. Some social engineering may be needed.
I use frija to obtain all fw's.
a) Base firmware: SM-G965U1_2_20200709201504_m6wxoyd74w_fac.zip based on G965U1UEU7ETG1
CSC: TMB
Additional:
b) SM-G965U_2_20200811140304_5ohvmlyr5p_fac_G965USQS7ETH2_TMB based on latest G965USQS7ETH2 tmo firmware
CSC: TMB
1) Obtain and extract files from both of the above zips. Keep track of which is which.
2) In odin, specify everything from A except CSC. Use the CSC (home or non-home) from B. This is needed to get the advanced calling features to work. Flashing CSC from A resulted in no wifi calling (possibly no volte either, can't remember).
CSC home or non home version?
I haven't tried this with an already configured phone, will probably work too. In that case use the home version. Non home results in a factory reset.
3) You will need a sim that specifies the ATT CSC. In my case the freeup sim is identified as such in the phone info app. I imagine a deactivated or blank sim should do the trick. The goal here is to get the phone to flash the correct CSC parameters. Have this sim in the phone prior to the reboot from odin.
4) Depending on which csc used in #2, the phone may reboot to apply CSC changes, let it. We want to lock in this profile.
5) If all is right, you should see the wifi calling toggle in the quick tiles and have the options in the connections and phone settings.
6) Enable usb debugging and connect via adb shell
7) This one took forever to determine, but this is what makes it all work!
Code:
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.samsung.android.cidmanager
8) Insert your cricket sim and allow to register. You will see it doesn't ask you to reboot to apply any csc changes. Under the 4636 menu it should show volte and wifi calling enabled. Make sure the wifi calling toggle is enabled
9) Reboot the phone for good measure and test again. Enable airplane mode and wifi. Try placing a call. It should go through.
Caveats: Unlike the att CSC, this one doesn't ask for an address. I'm not sure what address it's using - the one tied to the cricket account? The signal around here is good that wifi calling only kicks in in air plane mode.
Does this break something else? Possibly. Lets hope a proper fw update is released where these shenanigans are not necessary. With root, the proper CSC features can be correctly enabled for the control xml file. The battery in this phone is already at ~80% life remaining, so not willing to give up another 20%.
Good luck!
Reserved
Wifi calling uses the following ports. Make sure they're open in your firewall.
Outbound port 4500 udp
Outbound port 500 udp
Outbound port 5228 tcp
There may be others, but these were the nonstandard ones I had to explicitly define.
do you think you can use the stock U1 firmware ++ the tmo home CSC with this method?

strange, I used frija to download XAA and TMB firmwares but they end up being the same filename?
also, going to need to find an ATT SIM. Tried my redpocket GSMA but since it was never registered to an account it is giving me an error.
I can assure you this does not work. Your putting your sin in a cricket phone which provisions wifi calling and volte. When you insert t the sun in another phone it works for a mere hours. Then they realize your in a different device and reprovision your account again. Simply fishing cricket firmware does not fix this.
Only way to get around it is like I do.
Put your sim in a cricket phone. Provision. Swap sims. Then call them immediately and tell them your using the cricket device but it's showing your byop still and they need to change the imei to the cricket device. Then they're system will not reprovision your account again. Wifi calling will continue to work indefinitely

To whom are you replying? My cricket account already has a hardcoded imei on it (via customer service).
ok so not worth the trouble trying to get an ATT sim then? One thing that does work is VOLTE started working after pulling sim, putting in iphone6 enable wifi calling / volte. Swap back then volte started working and continues to work.

VZW WIFI Calling on unlocked Note 20 ultra 5G

Found out the guy lied. So the US unlocked N20U does work with VZW wifi calling.
It definitely does work with my N20U on Verizon.
The only differences between the Unlocked and VZW version are:
1. Native Verizon video calling doesn't work on unlocked, but the integrated Duo video calling is better anyways.
2. Verizon's model doesn't have the Samsung "Smart Call" feature for Caller ID. Instead, it uses Verizon's app.
3. Verizon's version has the Verizon bootscreen and a ton of bloatware, especially games, news apps, and what not. Fortunately, most can be uninstalled, and the rest can be disabled using ADB.

I can confirm all of the above. I have an unlocked phone, on U1 firmware, with a Verizon SIM. Wifi calling works. There is no "Advanced Calling" menu in Connection Settings, but there's a toggle for VoLTE and it was switched on by default. No 4G icon, but rather a LTE+ icon is shown in status bar. The only thing I haven't found a workaround for is the native video calling. I cannot initiate it (phone app does not show the option when I'm on a call with another Verizon phone) and if another Verizon phone attempts to initiate a native video call, it tells them that I cannot accept video calls. I checked my VZW account settings on a PC, and despite the video call option being on and not blocked, native calling doesn't work, as described above. Duo works fine for video. I was able to get Visual Voicemail by installing the app that I go from another thread. I installed it before checking to see if the U1 firmware added it by default, so I can't say for sure that it wasn't there already.

So I had an interesting observation. I flashed my Verizon Note 10+ to U1 firmware and noticed a drastic reduction in data speeds. After getting the Note 20 Ultra, I noticed the data speeds were nearly doubled. I then disabled a ton of Verizon and Samsung apps, and my data speeds dropped drastically as well. Through the process of elimination, I found that the "My Verizon Services" app seems to have a major impact on data speeds. As long as I keep that enabled on the Verizon firmware, data speeds are blazing fast.
Is it possible that Verizon uses apps to prioritize or de-prioritize data speeds? I'd be curious if one could do a side by side of the Unlocked vs Verizon firmware.

Thanks for sharing your observations regarding wifi calling. How can one tell it is working? I am used to older phones advising that wifi calling was in use via text in the phone app. I'm not seeing this notification on my new unlocked T-Mobile-branded N20U with Verizon SIM.
I also noticed the VoLTE toggle in the phone app, switched on and greyed-out, can't be deselected. Of course they don't want to support anything but VoIP anymore. What is the behavior, if the cell signal is decent it won't use wifi? It can't be forced to prefer wifi, can it? I used the trick of putting it in airplane mode, then turn on wifi to try and force it to wifi call. It said it couldn't make the call in airplane mode, which is not encouraging regarding wifi calling being functional on this phone/provider combo.

From what I've found, if you put another carrier's SIM in a truly unlocked carrier branded phone, it should prompt you to apply your carrier settings upon boot. For example when I put a Spectrum SIM in a Verizon phone, it "converted" the CSC (Carrier settings and boot logo) to Spectrum.
My recommendation is to attempt to get the SIM to switch the CSC automatically. If not, use the patched ODIN to flash the Unlocked U1 firmware, and optionally you can flash Verizon from there if Verizon's Video Calling is a must.

Thanks for the detailed response. I was a little concerned about the T-Mobile branding, and what that truly meant at the software level. I installed the Verizon SIM to this factory-reset phone. If it was going to switch CSC I think it would have happened then. It went through the usual setup steps, but still displays T-Mobile screen at boot. I'm not sure what else I would do to "get the SIM to switch the CSC automatically".
Would you agree with my conclusion that wifi calling isn't working based on the outgoing call failure when in airplane mode with wifi on?
If there is better, more-unlocked firmware I'm not opposed to flashing it. It's been a while since I've played with rooting and custom ROMS, but I'm guessing stock firmware is a lower-risk activity on an expensive phone.
I'll refer to this link to try and flash to unlocked U1 firmware, hopefully that will allow wifi calling compatibility:

Tmobile volte and wifi calling

Hi, I was hoping someone can help me activating the volte and wifi calling for Samsung A8 2018 (SM-A530f/DS). I got this phone in the Philippines from Smart carrier. I had a 3rd party unlock and been using it USA for almost 3 years with some issues (most of the time cannot get 3g calls/text when connected to wifi). Tmobile Announced next year 3g is going away and require volte 4g for calls.
I have updated firmware to current stock rom from original carrier, android 9 pie nov 2020 security patches. I can see wifi calling and volte toggle in shortcut settings, but it wont activate (probably since its not available in actual settings). Been researching old threads on how to enable it but no luck. I have rooted the phone and tried to copy over of CSC files from here and youtube but no success.

Can you flash ATT, VZW to XAA Branded in Download Mode

Forgive me if this has been covered but I havn't found the answer. I've flashed just about every phone I've ever had but my question here is can I / how do I flash to where the phone reads as XAA in download Mode?
The situation is my phone was originally on at&t. They unlocked it and I'm on Verizon. It all works great (it still says at&t on download Mode screen)
My problem is that if I log into the my Verizon app it disables my visual voicemail. I finally got a Verizon tech on the phone that explained that it is unsupported due to originally being on a different carrier and their system identifies that and disables the VVM. The only fix I can find is to put my sim in my backup S9+ that came from Samsung unlocked (or any Verizon phone) and I can then reactivate my VVM by resubscribing.
I currently have 3 Note 20 Ultras. One Each originally from Samsung, ATT and Verizon but the AT&T is the only one that is 512GB or I would just switch phones. I have flashed them all to U1 firmware but notice they all still reflect the original carrier in Download Mode so again my question is can I change this by flashing it / or is it just a matter of what sim card is in it when it's flashed? I need it to be seen as XAA by Verizon system so not to loose VVM... Pics attached.
Any advice here is greatly appreciated in advance.
Just a try... You can try the *#272*imei# method... But thats If it works. Not sure if the sims has to be in the phone for that to work.

Yes it brings up this menu... So I just select the XAA and that's it? I've been reading forums and this method is reversible it seems ... I'm familiar with Odin and all that but these hidden menus are new to me...
Thanks for the reply btw
You may have to activate the bottom most option to stay.
Don't worry if you can't access the menu after the change. You can download samsung band selection and change to automatic or one of the lte options then back to automatic to get to the menu.
CSC Guide
CSC (which I think means Carrier Service Code) helps to set what options for settings show in the device for things like voicemail and wifi calling, as well as sets network code information for things like carrier aggregation combos.
When you go to your phone settings->about phone->software information and look in the Service Provider SW ver. section, you will see as the last line a combo like XXX/YYY/ZZZ. This indicates what carrier sales and network code is set and what brand the phone was manufactured as.
I think of the XXX/YYY/ZZZ configuration as follows
XXX=Sales Code-What kind of features are setup in the firmware like wifi calling, video calling and settings menus
YYY=Network Code-What kind of network features are set for things like carrier aggregation and LTE/5G bands
ZZZ=Manufactured as Code- What model the phone was originally manufactured as. Ot has no affect on the system settings or options. THIS CAN NOT CHANGE. IT SHOULD ALWAYS BE THE SAME. ONLY A ROOTED PHONE WOULD BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE FILES NECESSARY TO CHANGE THIS.
for more details, refer to post:-
