Hello,
This is really a question for any WM5 or WM6 device. I use the simple pin for locking my device. Is there a way to view the Today screen without entering the PIN? This way you can quickly check to see if you have any new email, and if not, you don't need to enter the pin. I had a Moto Q, and it would show the today screen without having to be unlocked, very convenient. I've tried googling it and looking at various forums, haven't found anyone with this request or solution. Thank you in advance.
seems counterintuitive. The point of the lock is not only to prevent buttons from being pushed, but also for security. If you wish to know if you have an email, vm, sms, etc., then I recommend Treo Alert Pro
Cheers
It is cumbersome enough to have to remove the device from its case everytime you want to view the homescreen to check the time, appointments; etc. WORST is if you have the phone locked with a password. You have to input the pin when you want to view the homescreen. Why cant this feature be similar to the smartphone where the homescreen is viewable without having to input the pin.
Any solution to this please? Otherwise my Touch Pro is up for sale. It came with a two-year warrantee.
BTW does this effect all PDA phones?
Thanks
Yea, you can disable locking and buy case that shows TP screen.

Thanks for the suggestions but I cant afford not to lock the device for security reasons.
Dont you have clock visible at task bar upper right corner, even with device locked?
I do.
Your case problem should be easy to fix.

Yes! Really!! Still, if its only the clock thats no good for me. I also want to check on my apppointments... mails...
I cant see any way you could check all your stuff with device lock on. Thats basicly it's idea, not to let any random phone dangler to see your stuff.

Well at least on my Tornado Smartphone I can view information that is quite useful in my day to day life. Not to check but just view what's on the home screen.
Anyway never mind. Its gonna be gone once Xperia is out since this is aint the only issue I am facing.

I doubt the Xperia will be any different. This is just how WM operates, and I don't think the Xperia "panels" interface will change that.
You can look for software that locks your device only when it's lost or stolen, or other 3rd party locking programs that might allow you to display certain information. But frankly I agree; if the premise of locking a device is to prevent others from seeing your information, then when the device is locked, your information shouldn't be displayed.
What about Throttlelock from www.throttlelauncher.com?
It's a pattern-based screen lock software that's quite useful and can be unlocked very quickly with the swipe of your finger in a designated pattern of your choice. Just hit the power button to turn the screen off which relocks it.
It's transparent enough to see through to your home screen and view your appointments and the time. Been using this on my Tilt and I love it! Hope this helps...

Have you ever seen the homescreen of any HTC Smartphone while it is locked??
I dont have to unlock to see if there is emails, or appointments due.. and the time..
It is not enough for you to use standard device lock in WM,that locks only the buttons? It is available via todayscreen plugin(or also some other ways) which you can unlock by tap on left softkey and somewhere middle-right button afterwards. So it works as in regular phones with keyboard. That will unlock everything and anyone can have access to your data, therefore the question about enough. Or do you need to protect your data, but with visible homescreen?

I want to protect data and at the same time have the homescreen easily visible. This will allow me to check whether there is new email, check my appointments, as well as the time and day. Just like in my tornado I have everything at a glance without having to go through the login. why was it possible in smartphone?
i don't think that's ever been possible as it defeats the purpose of having a device lock. the device lock protects anyone from viewing what's on your device which is the pda part and the simlock prevents ppl from using your device as the phone part.
being able to view the home screen while the device is "locked" defeats the purpose of a lock as that home screen can contain confidential info.

WM Standard and WM Pro are just different like that. I am sure you can find a third party locking utility that does what you want, but the default is like this.
illi, it seems we meet here too, hello .
I had in plan to buy a touch pro too BUT I've done some research (thanx to xda!) and found out that this super-nice pocketpc with superb features (in paper) has a lot of bugs.
I've started a topic with common problemes.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426585
Note: there are just some of the found bugs!
So right now I will stick to my beloved HTC Tornado till the problems will be fixed.
Anyway, the described scenario is not a touch pro issue, it's just the ppc..
I don't have a Touch Pro, but on my I-Mate I use an app called 'ThrottleLock', and made my own skin with the background and buttons almost transparent so today screen is still visible. I can provide my mods if you like.
It's a much cooler way of unlocking than using a pin (like Google Android) and runs on startup. It won't come back if the device is hard-reset though, but then all your data would be gone anyway by that point.

Have you checked out the SonyEricsson MBW-150 bluetooth watch? With moneytoo's app smartWatchM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=362218 you can keep your phone silent, tucked away, and still get vibrating alerts on your wrist of incoming mails, the mail title, who sent it, stopwatch, control your music player, rss-feeds, accept or reject incoming calls, know who's calling, and afaik you can turn on and off the screen of your device remotely (I believe it requires xtra software on your device), tasks info is available on your watch etc etc. Needless to say you get time and date as well, synced to your device. Check it out!
the other option would be (if you have a bluetooth headset) get microsoft voice command, and when u initiate (hopefully this can be done with the lock on) just ask it "what time is it" and it will tell u.
Hi Everyone,
I have searched Google and must say I can't find any solution for changing SMS WakeUp / Notification pop-up.
It is so annoying when the screen lights up.
I would also like to be able to disable that it shows the message in the top statusbar.
I have unlocked my phone by finding the "ChevronWP7" unlocker tool and send (by e-mail) the "ChevronCert" to my WP7 HTC Trophy and installed the certificate. Downloaded "Tom XAP Installer v1.2.zip" and installed "RegistryEditor 1.1.0.0.xap" where I have tried several registry fixes found on different websites: "modify-sms-notifications-in-windows-phone-7" but nothing worked also found a solution here and the same again nothing i working:
[HK_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL]
"DisableSMSWakeUpEvent"=dword:1
Could someone help out I would really appreciate....
Thanks.
Bump please
Bump...Lookin for the same thing
Sorry guys, but why would you want this? I hate it on my Android. I have to push the power button every single time, which in turn, kills my hardware buttons.
At least you guys go to your lockscreen with a notification at the top, I had to download an app to wake the screen and it bypasses the lockscreen and I text/call people every single day lol. I wish it would just GO TO THE LOCKSCREEN!!!
Privacy, of course!
Bump.
@Dj21o: With respoect, I can think of at least one good reason why this setting should be "settable" and that is privacy. I may be in an environment where I don't want just anyone to be able to see an SMS as it arrives just by looking at my screen.
The fact that you would prefer it this way is, of course, good, too, but I think ther choice should be in the hands of the user.
Don't youy agree?

Yeah, it should be available for those that want it, and for those who don't... It is a simple setting that make it a big deal for users, and I can totally see where you are coming from. Sometimes my phone unlocks, and that is swiping left to right. I imagine it happens much more swiping up lol.
There is a site where you can put down ideas for developers to look at, and people vote for them. I can post the link of the site if you want.
Here is the site, you can post your ideas accordingly to what type of idea it is.

I just want to know exactly why you want this? Yes it can be abit bright at the first glimpse but isn't there a bigger risk for falling asleep if you just press a button, instead of actually opening your eyes?
Nothing against what you like/dislike, I'm just asking, why.

I want it too because I have Whatsapp group where people keep messaging all the time. And the screen remains on all the time. which simple means that my battery drain faster because screen is always on.

I have the same problem
Any news about this???
So, disable Toast notifications in WhatsApp? That's a (required) per-app setting, no need to request an OS feature for it!
Why you don't flip you phone down? If proximity sensor detect something close to phone display it will don't turn display on when toast notification pop-up.
My wife and I are looking for an app, setting, something, that will notify each of us when the other arrives at work. Once she's arrived at work, she doesn't have the time to whip out her phone and create and send a text to let me know she got there safely.
I'm looking for the something that, perhaps, notifies me, in some way, when her wifi or GPS recognizes when she's arrived in a specific location. Or, maybe even better, a gesture app/setting that allows her to swipe her finger in a specific pattern on the homescreen which triggers the phone to send me a preconfigured text message.
I doubt this is an option, but maybe best of all would be something similar, where she can send that preconfigured text, but from a widget on the lock screen or through a lock pattern that differs from the actual pattern you use to unlock your phone.
I also would prefer something that doesn't take up much in the way of system resources/battery. Thanks!
You can do it easily with Tasker. But it's a little bit hard to learn using it.

I'm just giving you crap; thanks for the tip! I'll check out tasker real quick.
Automate It is easier than Tasker, but not nearly as powerful. Should be enough for your needs though.

Hey XDA,
I just got a new Mate 9 after I send my Nexus 6P to RMA. So far a great phone, although I've been annoying myself to some notification and Bluetooth related issues so far. I hope someone may be able to help me out here. Would be really appreciated.
- Notifications seem to ignore there given importance by the app and are not ordered to it. All notifications are simple visible in the status bar with it's icon, even if the priority is low, when on the Nexus 6P it would be hidden from the notification area and on the bottom of the notification drawer. This is really annoying for constantly running apps/processes like AccuBattery, Tasker, PocketBell and WhatsApp's web notification. Is there any way to honor this importance/priority without setting this for the whole app and order these notifications?
- Notifications seem not to honor there persistency. For example, when listening to Spotify, I'm able to swipe away this notification, which shouldn't be possible. Is there any way to make these really persistent?
- Notifications are not visible on the lock screen. I'm only able to select this on an per-app basis, but is there any way to configure this the other way around? Show all apps on lock, instead of the apps I don't want?
- Bluetooth Audio volume is not controllable through the phone. The sound volumes are separate, one on my headset and the phone. Any way to link these back together, like the feature added in Android 6, if I'm correct? Although, I'm able to see the charge of my headset. That's new, so I wonder why the volume isn't linked.
I've been used to Android Oreo/Nougat on the Nexus 6P and find these issues above really counterproductive and I'll lose the overview fast this way. Is this just me, or is this really different then the AOSP?
And if so, any idea how I can fix this? Is there something baked into EMUI that would fix this, or will a APP/ROM be the only solution? (although, I don't hope so) I have searched the web, but I wasn't able to find relation questions.
Oh, I'm having the MHA-L09 (with MHA-L09C432B126).
Thanks in advance!
