Unlimited hotspot guide. - Moto E5 Guides, News, & Discussion

So this worked for me on metro pcs Moto e5 plus but I'm sure it will work for other carriers as well.
YOUR PHONE MUST BE ROOTED AND THERE ARE PLENTY OF GUIDES FOR THAT.
You will need two things
First a VPN (you will find many VPN for free..the one I have tried it with is Hola VPN. I haven't tried any others as that one gave me good speed and it was free.
Next is HotspotVPN. Also a free app that is available on the app store..
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=be.mygod.vpnhotspot
What this is doing is creating a hotspot through the VPN which it doesn't detect actual usage. To test I downloaded a 2 gb file and than of course checked and it didn't show any usage.
So step 1 is after both are installed open holavpn. When you turn on the VPN you will scroll in the app till you see the hotspot VPN app. It will ask you to open it.
2. Now that you are in the app you will turn on hotspot and than above that will show another option of wlan0. Once you turn that on it will ask for root access which of course you will grant.
Very simple setup and took me some time to research on getting a unlimited hotspot. I will say sometimes after shutting it down it will stop data on my phone. You don't have to reboot just put it in airplane mode and than take it off and it will fix that issue.
If you have any issues please post and I will try and respond asap.
Just used expressvpn and it worked also. So it should work with any VPN.

I highly doubt this works but I can't tell because there are about a MILLION apps on the Play store called "HotspotVPN"
Who made the app you're referring to? Link please..
And not calling you a liar, it just seems highly improbable that you "stumbled onto" something that no one else in the ENTIRE MetroPCS/T mobile community has yet to discover.
Has anyone else tested this?

Sorry for late response. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=be.mygod.vpnhotspot
I'm honestly telling you this does work. Maybe I got lucky in my research. Infact I'm not even sure how I found this out as I googled hardcore on this..lol

To be honest here why wouldn't I be able to find what others haven't? Though I may not be able to code a new rom doesn't mean I can't actually find a way to do something. So I when you do try it and it works I hope you can admit you were wrong. If I could post screen shots of it working I would but can't think of any screenshot that would prove it.

Those are only VPNs not the hotspot app. Please read before posting. You can choose your own VPN so no worries on that.

If you try this please post that it is working so others may see that or if you ran into any issues so that I can answer them.

App geo-restrictions how to circumvent

I can't really find an appropriate forum for this question, so I'll leave it here, hoping that moderators will move it to a more appropriate place if it does exists.
When I log on to Google Play some applications will not be available to me due to geographical restrictions. But in my world electrons knows no national borders. I have tried logging on through VPN (and I do find more apps that way) but Google obviously have my devices pegged down to my current country. I have even reset my device to factory, established VPN and created a new Google account through the VPN connection, in the fervent hope of getting access to some apps that I desire. Still no dice.
Is there any method that will enable me to get hold of those apps? Is there a mirrored site? Anyone that has any kind of suggestion is welcome with input, because I'm at my wits end.

you appear to be from a horribly dangerous country, so I am not sure if I should help you.... I don't know of a way to get around that type of block, but if you can get the .apk file downloaded then you can install it by tapping it in ES explorer if you have the "unknown applications" option checked in your security settings for most ICS roms.
I think Market Access or Market Enabler will do the trick.

This.....
My suspicion is that the VPN your using is based somewhere that still has restrictions in place, therefore you may well be seeing more apps yet some are still missing... maybe...
Try the suggestions above though, much less hassle....
And by the way, this is Off Topic, your question is very much on topic. You couldn't have picked a worse place to post if you had tried.
Unless your trolling us... In which case, good job. :highfive:
I couldn't find a sub-forum that dealt specific with Google Play. Can I assume that Market Enabler is available through Google Play?

That did look like the real deal, unfortunately it wouldn't let me download.
After several tries it did download.
Yes, it has potential, but there are still restrictions activated. Unless you can spoof deviceID and SON I doubt that you can access apps set up with restrictions (and I'm not talking about paid apps here), just restricted to carrier or country.

I'm just not tech savvy enough to do things like spoof deviceID or find the right SON for a certain carrier.
That is why I'm dependent on the good will of technical geniuses like you guys.

[Request] Canadian requesting the Garmin Pilot apk

Hello all,
I apologize if I'm in the wrong section.
I'm trying to get a hold of the Garmin Pilot app, but it's not available in Canada and thus it won't let me download it. I'm not actually sure if it would work in Canada, since they might not have the data for Canadian airports built in, but I still think it's worth a try, since there are no other good pilot apps on Android.
The app is a 30 day trial (free install) before having to subscribe to their service, so I imagine that all someone in the US would need to do is download the app, find the apk, and copy it. But I don't know too much on that subject.
Here's the Play Store link.
I would super appreciate if someone could help me out.
Thanks in advance
So, I am not sure if that is against the XDA rules or not - seems like a gray area and all. I am not taking the chance, but I will give you a way to do it yourself.
http://www.phnworld.com/android/download-apks-from-googleandroid-play-store-apps-using-computer/611/
This link shows you how to use Chrome to download apps from the market. I have used it quite a bit to have backups without having to use the phone. Kind of neat if you want to theme an app as well.
Hopefully this will solve your issue without having to ask others to possibly break a XDA rule.
Good luck!
That will actually would work perfectly. Thank you for showing that to me. I didn't mean to bend any rules here, I figured it would be alright since it's a free app (isn't the same thing being done with the Google Play Music app?)
Anyway, the only problem with that is that apparently chrome no longer allows you to install extensions outside of the web store -_-
Do you work around that somehow?
Good Morning,
I have tried multiple ways to access this app from the market but continue to receive the "not available in yoir country" error (I am also in Canada).
Any help in obtaining the apk is greatly appreciated. The current version is 2.4.1.
Thank you kindly,
- Audi.
Canadian Solution Garmin Pilot
Audi!
Took me few tries but i finally got it working. The IPad was much easier to set up as you only needed a ITunes account with a USA address. That was pretty easy to do, setup the account and ensure your ITunes on your apple product is setup using that account. From there it was no issue to download the program.
Now the harder one was to set up the Android. I just got an Asus Nexus 7 yesterday. First, the service from these guys was pretty minimal to say the least. The problem with the Nexus is that it automatically picked up my location through my IP address. I called Asus to remove the regional setting and they were no help. They basically were unable to change this setting. I have tried many different options including removing the GPS and locations access but it did not worked.
The trick was to drive over to a friend which has a setup with a US IP address to get US Netflix content. The moment i logged into his network, I had the ability to download the Garmin Pilot. I will travel next week to Montana and Idaho and will be able to see how the system works. The only way I was able to add different airports in Alberta and Saskatchewan was to add them one at a time under user waypoints.
Hope this help.

[Q] Vpn L2tp Psec google warning

It may be that I am not entering the right keywords, but I can't find the answer on the forums here. It's not a big deal, but I'm curious. When I connect via VPN on 2.3.6 through L2TP ipsec, I get a warning in Gmail saying that someone from a different IP was trying to sign into my account and google prevented it. (Because suddenly a different ip address from hundreds of miles away is attempting to sign in). I don't care that it's not letting it sign in (this isn't my daily driver, I just use it as a media player basically), but the choices I get are to click " No it's not me, change password" or " yes it's me" ( which I don't really want to say either). So is there some simple solution that I am totally missing? Or do I just ignore this everytime I connect to vpn?
Thanks
The simple solution is, if it's you, tell it that it's you. Why wouldn't you want to say it's you if it is?

Point taken. I suppose my first impression is that since Google services pretty much thrives on its users data, I don't necessarily want to admit that I'm encrypting it. I mean it's obviously legal, but I somehow feel that there will be a red check mark next to my account now. Or.... Maybe I should just take off the tin foil hat.
I put this out there to see if I'd get a response from anyone else who came across the same thing in the past.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
Well, if you want it to work, tell it that it's okay to work. If you don't want it to work, then you can keep telling it not to work. But if you tell it not to work and it does... that's a bug or security flaw.

Wifi Tether for Root Users with Nexus 5

Has anyone gotten this app to work on their rooted Nexus 5? I get errors and it doesn't work. If you got it to work, can you post step by step instructions with the settings you used? I'd rather use this than the built in tethering. Thanks.

Any reason you don't want to use the built in tether feature?
i think he has the same issue as me, currently my phone is stock rooted, when doing wifi tether, the browser from the connected device takes you to the upsell page from T-Mobile. i have tried all the apps in the play store and still get the same message. anybody knows of an App that works well with stock ROM?

You have to modify a DB file on your device to get any tethering app to work.
Here are instructions from another thread in this QA forum:

I have the T-mobile $30 unlimited prepaid plan and I ran into the tethering block after getting my Nexus 5.
I was able to work around the issue by modifying the following sqlite database (you'll need root):
/data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
You need to add a new entry to the global table called "tether_dun_required" with a value of 0.
It looks like you need to do this because some configuration data was added to Android for T-mobile that forwards tethered data to this APN: pcweb.tmobile.com
T-mobile is probably checking to see if your account has tethering enabled when you go through this APN.
After I made this change I also needed to change my APN settings so that it uses ipv4 instead of ipv6. It seems like tethering with ipv6 does not work 100% yet.
I hope this helps.

you need an SQL editor, like SQL lite.
The stock tethering is working fine after I rooted however I am worried T-Mobile will find out I am tethering sooner or later. I would rather use this app to tether
I solved with this app: WiFi Tether Router
on Google Play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.snclab.wifitetherrouter&hl=en
the developer has done a compatible update
I contacted the developer via email and he told me after a few hours
the developer advised me to select these settings
Interface wlan0
Method 0 - Auto
works also with
Interface wlan0
Method 2
Wi-Fi tether router doesn't work. T-Mobile did shut off my hotspot. Anyone else know of an app that works?

I am interested to know if anyone has gotten the original app in this thread, the Wifi Tether for Root users working with the Nexus 5.
Unlike the other posters, I am interested in this app because it enables you to spoof the MAC address, which I am interested in for making a streetpass relay point for my 3DS, so the alternative app suggested is not a viable alternative for me.
Any ideas how I can get this working on my Nexus 5? It is rooted, stock ROM, and have installed Busybox.
I would try mailing the Dev of the paid app. The screenshots of the options and the description of the methods available look similar to those in the free branch, and if the code is similar it may be simple to add the feature.

[Q] Wifi Password Sniffer

Hi, I have a question concerning Wifi Password Sniffer. I don't know if it's in the right section, but here it is. I have been researching on ways to connect to password protected WiFi networks that are on PLDT routers. My uncle had this app installed on his S2 and I was curios. He could connect to every PLDT WiFi on every place we go. So I asked him, but he refused to tell me how to get the app. I tried it myself, sadly, it was removed from the Play Store long ago probably due to illegal purposes. I don't have the intention to hack WiFi's and change pass. So I got the link from cuteangel's blog, you should Google Wifi Password Sniffer and download the app from cuteangel's blog site. After I downloaded and installed it, there's this rate 5 stars thingy. I was kinda feeling it won't work, because when I pressed the rate 5 stars on my notification, it led me to the Play Store, which is the app was removed so it is almost impossible to use their app. Could anyone here please help me bypass that? Like kinda someone could remake the app but way better? Thanks! I'm crossing my fingers.
Any ideas or suggestions?

I figured it out! Well, I can make a thread about it but I'm afraid it will be abused. So just PM me when u are interested.
Thread closed. We don't discuss hijacking peoples WiFi here.
