Whenever I play any media the sound is complete fine - unrelated to speaker crackle or bluethoot crackle. I don't think it is a hardware issue or an app issue. Not headphones either - I tried a few.
The thing is whenever the sound cuts off (or is extremely low) - depending on how the media was made, I hear a crackle like when you put a needle on a record player. As if the lack of sound makes the phone try to boost it instead of cut it off and I get noise.
For example I get crackle when changing songs or when a Youtube video starts and stops and some of them have it in the video itself, because audio can be cut on multiple places throughout the video.
You can see (hear) how this can get annoying.
I tried all the sound options, but nothing seems to change it, one guy even suggested sound issues can be related to the dinamic oled screen option, but that doesn't fix it either.
Does anyone know something about that?

Hello,
I am a proud owner of a couple Android Phones since the HTC G1, the HTC Magic and so goes on.
Now I was very excited to get the Nexus S, but on the first day of use, after making all the updates to 2.3.2 and installing all my usual apps, I noticed a crackling sound when hearing music from the speakers.
I can not find the reason of this but would like to know if someone had a problem similar to mine, and if yes, if it was possible to solve it.
There are some facts about this crackling noise that I point as follow:
- The crackling sound is not present all the times. The phone works well when playing shorts sounds like ringtones and notifications. I can hear everything crystal clear;
- When I start to hear a song (tried many different players, all the same problem), or when I am playing a game that uses constant music or sound effects, the crackling sound starts after some minutes of perfect sound (usually between 01:00 and 01:30 of good playing);
- It seems like a irregular white noise, like playing a corrupted MP3 file, that gets in the middle of the media;
- It beguns with a low volume compared to the media and gets louder as time passes, until it gets more frequent and as louder as the music playing;
- At first I thought of a broken speaker, and checked the headphones, but the crackling sound appears when listening music on both headphones and external speakers;
- Then I noticed the crackling sound appears on long voice calls too.
Well... I thought it could be something related to the software, so tried the OEM recovery process (Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset), but it was not sucessfull.
[Q] Does anyone had a problem like mine?
[Q] Could someone point what could be the cause of it or a possible solutions?
Thanks in advance.
Jon
I noticed the same thing while listening to Pandora. Not sure what's going on. I'm on Modaco and don't know if its something in there or not.
I hear the noise after about 30 minutes of pandora.
I'm having the same issue running Modaco while listening to music via Spotify.
Just got back to the stock ROM, I'll see if it's any better and keep you guys posted.
I can now confirm that stock ROM is not affected by this issue.

Volume was very low through my earphones (I've tried multiple), so I looked around the forum for similar threads. There's a LOT of threads with low volume issues. I found Voodoo Control, installed it, and configured it to output maximum levels. Google Music is at an acceptable level now where I won't put it to maximum volume, but Moboplayer sounds like I have it at ~50% when I actually have everything maxed out. It's pretty much useless to watch a movie where there is any other noise even with my in-ear phones that isolate sound.
I'm running the original Prime 1.5, not the revised kernel (no SoD issues here). So I'm getting a bit desperate here because of all the other little issues I've had to deal with this tablet... What can I do to resolve this?
I can't be the only one with this issue. Google Music's volume is more than sufficiently loud after installing Voodoo Control and maxing out everything. I originally thought my problem was limited to Moboplayer, but it's anything else besides Google Music. I've viewed my videos through Mobo, Rock, and the built-in MyNet app. I have normalized the audio stream to 100% for my videos, but even when set to "max" volume, it is nowhere near loud enough if there's any other noise in the environment.
I really want to like this tablet (and I do to some extent), but there's all these little issues with the software and some hardware that are really making me -__-
I can't say I have this issue but I can say that the sound quality sucks and even at the highest volume it is too low.
I installed Power AMP which has an equalizer with a Loud Speaker Out Pre setting which is louder than anything I have seen yet. It seems when you set your tab to this any other music player will pick it up and it is definitely louder.
Give it a try.
I installed Equalizer and was happy with it, until last night. I've eliminated the headphones and the Note itself as the culprit. (Headphones work fine on MP3 player, and audio sounds great from speakers. Also, initial "Samsung" startup sound is fine through headphones.)
I'm getting A LOT of sort of squeaky static when using Equalizer, either with Music Player or Video Player. The static doesn't start right away, but after a minute or two. I REALLY like the way the audio sounds with Equalizer (minus the static), so I'd like to keep using it. But it's unbearable the way it is. I poked around in the Equalizer settings, as well as Music Player settings. I've got my Music Effects set to Equalizer. I have no other sound effects app running.
Also, I can't seem to disable Equalizer. I force stop it, and it keeps coming back to appear in my notification area. Can't find a setting for that, either.
Anyone else have any issues with this app?
Thanks!

Just noticed the same issue myself. I'm not 100% sure it's because of Equalizer yet, though... still have to do a few more tests. But it does seem to be the likely culprit.
I know what you mean... I really like Equalizer, so I'd love to be able to use it, but I think the static problem would be a deal killer for me if the app turns out to in fact be the cause of the problem. I'm especially choked since I JUST paid for the full version, like half an hour before realizing the problem!
BTW, for what it's worth, I'm using an Asus Transformer Infinity.

Just so as to not tarnish the reputation of Equalizer, I've now come to the conclusion that the problem is NOT in fact the Equalizer app. It happens with or without Equalizer running, and regardless of whether "Music effects" in settings is set to the stock option or Equalizer.
What I just found out today is that the problem seems to be related to playing of media off of the microSD card. When I play a movie off of the microSD, I get that buzzing sound. But when I play the exact same file off of the internal storage, it's gone! I guess this is a sign that there's some interference being generated by the microSD port that isn't properly shielded. Lame, since I was using the strategy of keeping all my movies on a microSD card (and a strategy I'll now have to change), but at least it's resolvable.
Try another SD card. I also keep the media files on the SD card and I have no problems .

I have a Samsung Galaxy A8, and when I play mp3s I get weird static sounds and popping noises, I also experienced this on the Samsung Galaxy S8. However when I would play the same song through YouTube on my phone I wouldn't get the noises. After reading this thread and trying all the different suggestions to no avail I thought to myself hang on I'll try and play an mp3 on my (Samsung Galaxy Tab a 10.1. SM-T580) To my surprise no static or popping noises. I am not sure as to why this is however I thought I would mention it for you or other people to work out a possible workaround.

Hello everyone im having issues when using Upscaler. The issue is when playing musing sometimes im getting a strange sound only lasting for milisecond.
Im able to reproduce it in poweramp where you can click on track line to play from any specific part of the song.
Not sure if this is the same problem or not, but i have a crackling sound.
It happens with both pocket casts and google play music. Everything will be fine, then a new podcast or song will start and all of a sudden the speaker turns to garbage, horrible crackling sound. If i plug in headphones and toggle the upscaler on and off, then unplug my headphones, the speaker works fine again.
I have to do this every couple of days. Anyone have that issue as well?
For me the issue was caused by having Adapt Sound enabled (which is simply adaptive EQ) & UHQ at the same time.
UHQ amplifies the harsher frequencies already amplified by Adapt Sound. For music, it's not a problem. I do, however, have to disable both for podcasts etc...
Hi all,
when i am watching a youtube movie, streaming music or movies or listening to podcasts my sound stops or stutters but only when using the speakers - there are no issues when using headphones, be it bluetooth or wired. Also i have never missed a notification or call, so i would guess it's working there.
I have performed a factory reset to see if that would fix it somehow and it seemed to do that for a week or two but now the issue has arised again.
Have anyone else noticed the problem or do i just have a faulty device that i should take back to the store to be replaced?
I could root the phone and the audio thingy mod someone maid, but for once i cant really be arsed with rooting the phone, since i am quite happy with it except for this issue.
I have the same problem. Made factory reset and fixes for a while but for me instead of 1 or two weeks it takes only some hours... ringtones, notifications, headphones and other system sounds works fine...it's only media sound through speaker. It looks like the phone detects that there is headphones connected. I've been trying to work around this problem and only found a fix using an app called Sound About but I would love to have this fixed without any second party programmes.

I also have the same problem.
I downloaded the Soundabout app but I still had the problem. What did you configure in the Soundabout app to patch up the audio issue?
Guys have you fixed this!?!?!?!?!?!?
