What do the following settings do and should I enable them?
1. WiFi Scan Throttling (under Network developer options)
2. Intelligently select the best WiFi (WiFi Preferences)
3. Network Rating Provider. Currently set as Google or should
I select None?
4. Is there perhaps a manual explaining all settings including
Developer settings?
Thanks for the help

Hey,
have you properly set up ur wifi connection on ur device including any password protection and security (WEP/WPA etc).
Also and this might seem daft, but is ur wifi connection on router properly working or have you set up any access restrictions on router?
its not a question on whether the wifi connection actually works but edge overriding it.
but... yes i did all of the necessary steps to add my device (wep password, mac address added etc...)
if i turn the phone off the wifi works just fine.
thanks for the reply.
Hy,
you have to set the networks (Internet and Private Network) to "My Work Network".
Does this not work you have to make a rom update.
Greatz
mccoffein
You will find it at Settings -> Connections -> Connections -> Avanced -> Select Networks
that just makes everything not work
Which rom version do you have? Which device do you have? Which Provider Label do you have?
its all in my sig
I find that if I want to switch from cellular data to WiFi, I have to hit the Data button in the Comm Manager, then hit the WiFi button. Otherwise, it doesn't seem to switch. If I just turn on WiFi, it connects, but never know which one is going to be used.
Go to:
Touch "Start > Settings > Connections > Connections > Advanced > Network Selection.
Set both settings to "Office Network"
If this does not work then install a small file called "No data" or "Modaco No data"

no data works by removing a registry key for your connection settings..... so it will also disable your picture messaging and/or email if you use it. (just a heads up)
Hi,
I am trying to figure out the different options in:
Settings => connections => advanced => select network.
What i want to do is keep wifi and data both on, so that when i open the phone from standby wifi would work in my house for data and when i head out 3G would take over the data, also when my phone is in standby mode and i have scheduled it to download my email, it should do it in standby mode via 3G or wifi without me manually tweaking the settings or manually downloading the email.
Right now, the upper option in set to T-mobile data and the lower option is set to "My work network".
please let me know,
i am sure alot of you already know the answer but i am not sure of the options.
Thanks alot in advance
I am sure there someone out there who's a little more sure about these settings than i am
please let me know.
Thanks.
So I finally jumped in and got the WanHu ROM installed with M's v5 patch. This thing is really nice now, hopefully it will stay that way even after I reinstall some of my apps.
One thing that I've noticed is that the ability to use only 2G networks is gone. It used to be an option under Settings » Wireless controls » Mobile networks. Any chance that may be coming back?
I know some people would probably think I'm crazy to be asking that, but in my experience the batter life was pretty much double that of what I was getting on 3G, so I'd use that mode sometimes.
Thanks for all the good work on the WanHu ROM.
You can turn off the 3g at Settings >> Wireless networks >> Data Network settings & there is also a 3g widget.
Hi,
At this point you only turn data on or off. You cannot switch from 3g to 2g.
I would like to have this feature to, because the radio at my work is very poor and the battery last much longer in 2g.
Sent from my XT720 using XDA App
switch 2g , 3g, and 2g/3g
if i have to change the default network setting (3, which mean 3g/2g auto), i can from here:
1. from the dialpad dial *#*#4636#*#*
2. from the popued menu, choose Phone Information
3. from "Set preffered network type" You can choose several options including:
"GSM auto (PRL)" (this is usually default and means 3g and failback to 2g, depending on signal
"WCDMA prefered" (this mean 3g and if there is no 3g, then 2g), this settings seems to wotk, but if you exit and return to the same menu it is changed
"WCDMA only" 3g only
"GMS only" 2g only
hope that helps.
p.s. I use Battery monitor application, which has shortcut to the Phone Information menu.

Thanks for the reply. I was messing around in those menus and could not find a "GSM only" mode on my phone. I will look again, but all I remember were an "auto" mode, a "3g only" mode, and a bunch of CDMA stuff (which doesn't apply to our phones).
But I will look again and try out the battery monitor application program as that would be nicer than typing the key sequence everytime.
And just to expand my (rather small) knowledge of the android OS. The option to select only 2G under Settings » Wireless controls » Mobile networks, is that a framework thing that has to be added?

After upgrading to ics, i cannot see the "network" option in the settings menu, which means that i cannot select mobile provider manually, i cannot enable data roaming abroad etc.
Any idea where it went??
When you are in settings, tap on the mobile network icon to go in specific settings.
Got it. Thanks!
Thought I'd share a little tip on maximizing download speeds for folks with unlimited data plans:
This 2 step process requires access to 'Developer options'. If you don't have that option unlocked then do the following:
* Go into Settings > About device: Scroll down until you see 'Build number' and repeatedly press it and you'll see a notification that if you press it # many more times you will unlock 'Developer options', go ahead and do so to unlock it.
1. Go into Settings > Developer options: Scroll down to the 'Networking' section and turn on 'Keep Mobile data turned on'.
2. Go into Settings > More connection settings: turn on 'Download booster'.
Download booster alone is really nice for the bigger downloads, add in always having the mobile data connection active means it's faster to activate the booster (using both wifi and lte) and if you generally have spotty wifi or it seems to take awhile to switch to mobile data when you leave the house, always having it on should help as well... At the cost of battery life though (not sure exactly how much).
