SM-G892A Galaxy S8 Active Flash/Carrier Switch - General Questions and Answers

Hello all,
I have an ATT S8 Active G892AUCU5CSF8 that i would like to work with a activated VZW sim card. I inserted the SIM in the unlocked ATT S8 Active, but had no success with getting texts or onto the Verizon network. Verizon BYOD shows my IMEI as not being supported. I have Odin and Patched Odin, but I was unable to flash to a Sprint Unlocked XAS Firmware. I assume this is because of the boot boot version being 1 as the file is: XAS-G892USQU1AQJ8, or the model being 892U
I also was unable to turn on the OEM Unlock and my FRP status shows as on in download mode
I am brand new to firmware updates and I have a few questions....
1. Are there any other S8 Model Numbers such as G950U or 892U that can work on a G892A? If anyone has any success with flashing other model number firmware for this device?
2. Would Sprint unlocked CSC allow me to utilize my activated VZW Sim card? I was simply going to attempt it and see what happened, but maybe asking the experts might be a better idea
3. Are there any version 5 or higher Sprint XAS firmware files anyway?
Thank you for your time

Check this out first. https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS8/comments/7jdcno/psa_with_the_latest_us_carrier_updates_your_phone/ That being said, S8 and S9 models ending in the letter "U" probably will work. Usually, this works when a phone is carrier unlocked and you switch sim cards. With these models you do not normally get a sim unlock screen. (if it is already unlocked) unlock through your carrier. S8 and S9 models have trouble with non verizon mvno sim cards. Trick - boot with a Verizon sim card (good or bad) ((The phone will switch settings to accommodate the verizon sim card. YOU SHOULD SEE A VERIZON SPLASH SCREEN AT START UP. Once up, verify the verizon access point is set. hold the power button down - choose emergency mode ---remove the verizon sim card, put in the non verizon CDMA card - hold the power button, turn off emergency mode and you verizon settings will be there. DO NOT RESTART THE PHONE. or you will have to go through it all again. Works on my S8+ G855U, maybe your ATT G892U. Note, the "U1" models are supposed to switch without the gymnastics with the sim card.

Just checked Sammobile. You may be out of luck. https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/. Your model Sm-G892A has valid firmware for ATT and Sprint. Your firmware looks correct for an unknown XAS model. That being said, you could try the same tricks before with a Sprint sim card and a Sprint mvno card. Red Pocket carries all four carriers Get a non active sprint card on ebay. pennies. I started by going back to the original firmware. Then learned the upgrade process and took mine from 2017 stock 7 nougat up to 2020 9 Pie. Again, make sure you are unlocked from ATT first. If it doesn't switch on booting with a different sim card, I doubt you will have much luck.

Last thing. I did notice if I used an ATT sim card in my S8+, it would boot to ATT Splash. If I used T-mobile, it would go to T Mobile Splash. However, if I did the trick while using an ATT card (i.e. emergency mode and switch the card To Red Pocket mvno for ATT gsm) it still worked. However, if I ever shut it down and restarted it would go to the T-Mobile splash even though I had the Red Pocket (ATT specific card) Therefore to get the ATT settings back, I would have to do the sim/emergency mode procedure again.

I have the SM-G892A, unlocked, and I'm using it on T-Mobile. APN all correct. Booted from stock with the TMO card but can't get the phone to display Wifi Calling option. This is the only reason I would try rooting and flashing TMO firmware. Which sounds sketchy from what I read above. My question: Any other thoughts on activating Wifi Calling? Thanks for responding.

Axilarry, you have a g892a on T-mobile? How did you do it? I can't get mine out of att 'mode', preconfig only gives me the att option. Custom rom, root? Please share.

Re unlock verizon to international network

Excuse me, I was bought ss note 5 N920v from Aliexpress to Thailand and already unlocked but it has android 6.0. I found 7.0 rom (https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-note5/general/sm-n920v-nougat-odin-firmware-t3592899) then I flash it via odin . When finished reboot. It appeared "sim card is not from verizon wireless " and I can't use 4G mobile internet so I think it look like re-lock network again. This case can I use verizon unlock service on ebay? or you have the better way for free? Thank you.
You dont need to relock it.
Note 5 VZW is UNLOCKED!!!
Ignore the message "sim card is not from verizon wireless"
You need to setup you carrier APN settings to use 4g connection
but the signal is very weak and the previous version that buyer flashed 6.0 but my signal is full and didn't has verizon logo.

How To Convert My Samsung Galaxy S7 SM-G930S (SK Telecom) to SM-G930F (Global) ?

Hello everyone! This is my first post here.... Actually I've been using a Samsung Galaxy S7 (SM-G930S) for 2 months now, I recently discovered that my phone supports Dual SIM Cards as I saw 2 SIM Card slots in the SIM Card Tray... However there's only one IMEI in the device options (settings) and if a SIM card is inserted into the 2nd slot, nothing actually happens and the SIM card doesn't even get detected... So I wanted to change it's carrier from SK Telecom (SM-G930S) to Global (SM-G930F). Will this fix my issue? If yes, kindly let me know the whole process because this is the first time I'm doing this firmware installation thing And if I'm going in the wrong direction, kindly guide me. Thanks in advance to all the developers and experts out there
Changing the carrier won't assign an IMEI number to the second SIM slot.
It is actually possible to convert a single SIM exynos S7 to dual SIM, though it is dependent on what security revision your current firmware is. I did it successfully recently, but I had a logic board that had only been updated to S3 security, which is exactly the right kind for these instructions. With a later security update, you would need to find a matching combination file, and it may not necessarily work the same way.
The phone also won't boot properly with stock firmware after doing this, unless you root it. At least that's what I found. It will work with non-rooted custom firmware though.

I should add, I wouldn't even attempt this if you've not had some experience of rooting, modifying, flashing custom ROMs etc.
Your first time figuring out how to install TWRP and flashing a custom ROM is easy in comparison to this.

Since CSC change is not possible with latest UI 3.1 update what are options to change CSC

HI all,
With CSC change not possible using codes with latest UI 3.1 update what are options to change CSC?
For ex. I have SM-N986U unlocked Tmobile device but i changed CSC to ATT as im currently using ATT Prepaid and I'm on latest Apr update for ATT
How can i revert back to Tmobile CSC?
Do i need to flash Tmobile firmware using ODIN by first flashing to U1 firmware then Tmobile firmware or can i directly flash Tmobile latest firmware with Apr update using ODIN?
Will i be able to retain my app and data if I flash Tmobile firmware?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
So you state csc change not possible then ask how to change it? lol.. and if it were as easy to just flash firmware in odin tgen that wouldve been the way to do it to begin with I would think lol
Update:
I was able to change CSC(ATT/ATT/TMB) to TMB/TMB/TMB but it was long and winded way. Just flashing firmware was not enough , need Tmobile sim to install carrier service and change CSC.
I followed the steps below:-
1) Did backup of my device using Smart Switch and removed my ATT sim.
2) Flashed latest T-Mobile firmware( N986USQU2DUC8 ) using instructions from post - https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/ota-and-non-ota-firmware-for-n986u-and-n986u1.4143833/ . Also, downloaded the ODIN (patched version) and T-Mobile firmware from links in the post. Flashed HOME_CSC too.
3) After rebooting phone with new firmware , the boot up screen was still ATT and CSC was still ATT/ATT/TMB.
4)Shut down phone and inserted Tmobile SIM i had lying around.
5) On reboot, i was asked to install Tmobile carrier services and on restart , Tmobile logo came on boot up with CSC changed to TMB/TMB/TMB.
6) Now, i have esim enabled and SIM manager showing up too.

thats the normal process.. that firmware is same for each carrier.. firmware is multi csc which changes based on sim inserted.. shouldnt have to go through all of that really.. i think most ppl who have issues are trying to change csc without a active sim card or on carrier locked devices etc.
glad u figured it out tho!

Well, the confusion for most ppl who are new to Samsung and CSC, like me , is that we could change CSC with code earlier and now cannot. Didn't have these issues with pixel and iPhone.

Yes, I was able to change CSC to ATT from TMobile, enable all LTE/5G bands before One UI update. Not, sure what u find so funny .
Yes, I'm aware that there is no CSC concept in pixel or iPhone or any other other manufacturer that I'm aware nor they are crippled in terms of hardware capability from carrier software like Samsung. LTE/5G bands not being enabled , esim not being enabled etc.

I have phones such as Z Flip3 5G and other models that do not change CSC like older models when following the flash procedure starting with U1, but the phones never prompt a restart. I have noticed it seems to be with TMB or VZW units. Any suggestion on how to actually get the CSC to change properly or is this something they are doing with new phones to avoid being able to use them fully on other carriers?

Hi, I have yhe following issue and I need your thoughts please.
I have a Telus plan, canadian with US roaming option.
I am traveling in US alot. I have a Note 20 Ultra U1 from Samsung USA. When in US I can only register on Tmobile and I can get 5G icon too. Won't let me on ATT or Verizon.
With same sim card in Note20 Ultra "W" variant, canadian one, it wil register on all 3 major networks in US. No issues with the sim, I guess.
Also in Canada won't get 5G ever.
My provider said nothing to do with them, Samsung told me the same.
I reseted all network setings my APN is ok. VOLTE on. Only getting acces to Tmobile.
Any ideea how I can fix this ? Is it related to CSC ? Mine is XAA.

csc change help

Hello,
I've already searched this but I'm seeing different answers.
I have a Verizon Note 20 5g and the csc is at vzw/vzw/vzw. I would like to change the csc over to att/att/att. I have already downloaded Patched Odin, the new duf2 firmware. I have always kept my sim card inside the phone during flashing and its always changed the csc over during that process. This time though(this phone) when i flashed the firmware onto the phone it kept the vzw/vzw/vzw csc. Do i need to take out the sim card during the flash then reinsert once the firmware has been flashed on the phone and it restarts? Im on bootloader 2 and using the correct firmware. im just trying to get Volte back..lol.
thanks in advance

It will never be att/att/att, if the phone was originally vzw/vzw/vzw. If you have an active AT&T sim card, you will get att/att/vzw. Flashing odin does not change the csc on this device - the active SIM card dictates the csc. You didn't indicate if you were flashing U or U1, but you have to flash the U software to get carrier services, including VoLTE.

Oh gotcha, ok. Yea I have Att sim card but it still shows VZW/VZW/VZW even with the Att sim card inserted. I flashed the U1 firmware, thank you for clarifying this on the difference for the volte thing.
Did the APN change when you put in the AT&T sim card? If you change from U to U1 or vice versa, i believe you have to do a factory reset [sim card out until after inital setup]. The guide in this post worked for me: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...shing-and-n986u-to-n986u1-vice-versa.4182825/. But i moved from TMO to ATT with no issue.

Thank you very much, I didn't know the initial setup thing. Once I did that it's now showing Att/Att/Vzw. I have volte, wifi calling and hd calling again.
Thank you so much.

Question AT&T Z Flip 4 Flashed T-Mobile Firmware But Boot Animation Still AT&T

Wondering if I flashed correctly because the boot animation is still AT&T. I used Odin to flash the latest firmware (F721USQU1AVIA_F721UOYN1AVIA_TMB). Shouldn't the AT&T apps go away and the T-Mobile apps get installed? Bought phone and the seller didn't say it was the AT&T version but instead said it was Samsung unlocked. Anyway, since I'm on T-Mobile I figured there must be a way to put the T-Mobile firmware on the phone. Is that not the case?
Any tips would be appreciated.
Thanks.
First the AT&T apps only appear if you have flashed the firmware and booted up the device with an AT&T sim card inside the phone. Second, if you want to get the T-Mobile variant of the firmware, take out the sim card with your device powered on, reboot your phone, unlock your devide, then insert your T-Mobile SIM card, you should see a pop up saying something, like "restart your device to get carrier features" an on that same pop there should be a button saying "restart" or "ok" or something along the lines of those.
Hmmm I'll try that. The phone had the T-Mobile sim in it when flashed. Should I have not had a sim in at all during the flash?
Thanks
I don't think it really matters if the sim card is out during the flash because I'm pretty sure when you the sim card back in after the device restarts and you then put the card back in you will still need to restart the device to get the carrier software installed.
I wonder if this only applies to Samsung unlocked versions and not the carrier unlocked version because I received no such prompting when the sim was inserted (originally an AT&T sim was in the phone, then I put in my T-Mobile sim).
Did you buy the phone unlocked? You should use the patched version of Odin which can be found [here](https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/patched-odin-3-13-1.3762572/) and download the file labeled 3.14.1_3B_patched. this patched version ignores and bypasses the following conditions
"FAIL! Model mismatch fail" (all PatcheD versions)
"FAIL! SHA256 is invalid" (all PatcheD versions)
"FAIL! Blocked carrier" (PatcheD versions >= 3.14.1)
You can also use the patched Odin to go from carrier firmware to unlocked firmware (which is what I use it for since AT&T takes forever to push updates out)
