[Guide] Unlocking the Mi4c Bootloader without verification by Xiaomi

This evening I had the same problem like many of you and I just did not want to wait 2-3 weeks for the unlock code from Xiaomi. I went through a lot of threads and different forums to create this guide.
Requirements
- ADB up and running (I am an Android developer, so I have this installed already - unsure if you need specific ADB drivers for Xiaomi devices though)
- Xiaomi MI4c
- MiFlash: http://bigota.d.miui.com/tools/MiPhone20151028.exe (via http://en.miui.com/a-234.html) - Install
- Mi4c Image: libra_images_6.1.7_20151221.0000.11_5.1_cn_b09dac70a0.tgz - unpack until "images" directory is visible!
- [Optional] Mi4c Fastboot Image: miui_MI4c_6.1.21_d1d054460d_5.1.zip
- [Optional] Latest TWRP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-4c/development/libra-twrp-3-0-t3315059
- [Optional] Latest build of CM 12.1: http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-4c/development/cm12-1-build-cyanogenmod-12-1-device-t3291631
Step-by-step
Step 1 is optional: I was not sure, if I could use the "fastboot oem edl" command in a higher version of MIUI... feedback required. Thus following is a list of known Xiaomi ROMs which support this procedure:
If you are using one of the following ROM versions, you should be able to unlock the device easily with the provided guide. However, I have messages that the versions don't work with higher MIUI ROM versions.

(Optional) Downgrade your Mi4c by flashing any image from the list above via the "Updater" app (use top right icon to select image).
Reboot into fastboot mode (Power + Vol Down) until you see the MIUI rabbit and "FASTBOOT"
Command: fastboot oem edl (this brings your device in a kind of emergency recovery state) -> the device does only show a black screen. Do the next step.
Use MiFlash to flash 6.1.7 image (Browse -> select the "images" directory of the 6.1.7 package and start flashing)
When completed, reboot the phone by holding the Power button long (~8s)
Wait until 6.1.7 is completely loaded (this may take a while)
Reboot into fastboot mode (Power + Vol Down)
Command: fastboot oem unlock -> at this point you should have an unlocked bootloader
Now optionally install TWRP and subsequently CM 12.1 and enjoy (see respective linkes in the requirements for a howto) - TWRP: fastboot flash recovery <twrp>.img

Yes you can, as you see the CM is optional, you can choose any rom of your liking.
Be warned that any of the latest official Miui roms will lock your bootloader right back and if you have TWRP in place, you will bootloop.
Xiaomi.eu or sMiui highly recommended alternatives if you want to go with miui.
Great step by step tutorial, worth a sticky imo since more and more people coming here will be locked in the future.

I did unlock the bootloader using the guide and it works.
Step 1 Downgrade your Mi4c by flashing the 6.1.21 image via the "Updater" app (use top right icon to select image) is not necessary .
Also all data will be wiped.

Thanks for the feedback. Did you "EDL" flash from the latest stable / dev version?

Not working for me. I'm Unable to flash 6.1.7 from update from 6.3.10. When I send command: fastboot oem edl phone reboots and then I am unable to glash with MiPhone. :crying:

no key combination is working power+vol - is dead power+vol up is also dead..
all i can see is its recognize it via device manager port com "Qualcomm hs-usb qdloader 9008"
please point me out to somewhere i can see my fastboot mode again

everything going fine for me, unlock worked, flash recovery twrp worked. But finally i still have the miui recovery...
Now when i try to unlock through MiFlashUnlock, it says "Devices already unlock". Before doing this guide i was blocked at 50% "Mi account not the same that devices information".
What can i do ??

don't let en.MIUI rom boot after you install twrp. because it will reinstall the stock recovery over the twrp recovery. In fact, you have to go directly to twrp after flashing it, and try MIUI.eu or other CM roms.

How to recover from bootloader relock brick

Hello,
I have MIX 3 Chinese version, unlocked bootloader, flashed latest global. Fine
For security purposes, tried to lock bootloader with fastboot - I knew it may be risky- now the device is in Mi recovery 3, refused to reboot even after erase data.
How to bring it back to life.

Follow instruction here, make sure to download lastest Miflash and correct rom, for fastboot rom use mifirm.net

Fastboot is fairly simple. Download the latest Chinese from from miui.com, unzip it, connect your device in fastboot mode, and run the flash_all.bat file. It will take a while and the command prompt window will close when it is finished and your device will reboot.

I am downloading the ROM.
Please can provide step by step instructions?
My understanding is to:
1. copy the rom in minimal fastboot directory
2. unzip all files in that same directory (or should I create new one?)
3. Execute the command below:
fastboot flash_all.bat
By the way, can I use fastboot with locked bootloader?

If you have ADB installed system wide, then it doesn't matter where you unzip the full image to. The best way to have ADB installed system wide is through this method.
You don't need to type anything. Just open the folder the ROM was decompressed in, right click the flash_all.bat, and run it as administrator with your device connected in fastboot mode. It will literally do everything else.

Did you install ADB 1.4.3 from the thread linked to? Do you have your device connected to a USB 3 port or USB 2 port? Are you using the cable that came with your device to flash it? Were you booted into the bootloader when trying to flash?
Edit: Read that post wrong. You need to download the fastboot version. You can't flash the TWRP image using fastboot.

Yes I did all that.
I am getting error: Erase is not allowed in lock state.

Won't be possible with the Mi unlock software as the phones been wiped - no account, no OEM allowed ticked etc.

in that case, your only hope is: sending it back to china

In UK. Gray import. I really don't understand why a manufacturer should let this be possible. Why not just make it unlockable with global rom? This will avoid such unwanted situation for everybody. Pissed off by Xiaomi

Why there is need for this Guide?
When I got my Realme 5, I wanted to Unlock the Bootloader, Install the TWRP Recovery, root it and finally Install a Custom ROM. So, I've Searched for it and Finally Disappointed B'coz many Guides were wrong and some were Very Old and Outdated Guides.. So I've Researched and now with many problems, Finally I've Unlocked the Bootloader, installed TWRP and finally Flashed LineageOS 17.1.. So, this Guide saves your time, I've Included the Steps What I did, you guys can simply follow it..

Procedure :
Steps to Downgrade from RealmeUI 1 to ColorOS 6
If you're in Latest android 10 RealmeUI, first you need to downgrade to ColorOS 6 android pie.
To do so, download ColorOS package(.ozip package) from below link.
Open this .ozip package with File Manager app and Locate this package.
Click on that package, A pop-up will appear, In that Select "Upgrade Now" or something like that..
It will wipe your data and It will boot into ColorOS setup, Complete the Setup..
Users who are in ColorOS 6, need not to follow above Steps!

Steps to Unlock Bootloader:
Enable developer options in settings and enable OEM Unlocking, USB Debugging from Developer Options from Settings.
Download and Install In-Depth apk from attachments.
Open it and Click on Start Applying.
After 20min Open app and click on "Query Verification Status" .(if you dont see like this wait for some moretime, maximum it will take upto 24hours only)
If you see something like "Review Successful", You are good to go..
Select "Start the in-depth test", You will be forwarded to fast boot mode..
Connect the mobile to PC.
Now comes the role of PC/Laptop, Download the Fastboot and Minimal ADB, Recovery.img and vbmeta.img From the attachments.
Extract that fastboot zip in some Directory, Copy the recovery.img and vbmeta.img to the fastboot folder.
Open the Minimal ADB and Fastboot and in that open "cmd-here.exe"
Type "fastboot devices", then enter, You should see something like serial number.
Type "fastboot flashing unlock", then enter, now check ur phone you will see something like "Unlock" or similar to something..
You need to select the Unlock with the help of volume button and select with power button.
After Selecting "Unlock" all data will be deleted and Your Phone will be unlocked..
HURRAY, YOUR PHONE IS UNLOCKED
Installing Pitchblack Recovery :
After Unlocking Phone all the Data will be deleted, complete the setup wizard and enable USB Debugging.
Connect the Phone to PC via USB.
Open ADB Fastboot folder and select "cmd-here.exe".
Type "adb devices" you should see something like Serial Number.(If you did not see, re-insert the phone cable to another port and check)
Type "adb reboot fastboot", You will be forwarded to Fastboot mode.
Type "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
Type "fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta.img"
Disconnect the Mobile from PC, then click on Volume down Button Until you get Something Like "Recovery" and Select using Power Button.
HURRAY! YOU'VE INSTALLED RECOVERY
IF YOU WANT TO ROOT YOUR DEVICE, DOWNLOAD MAGISK AND INSTALL IT FROM RECOVERY

Sorry for the delay bro, I think you can't unlock the bootloader of Your Phone, bcoz it is not directly from the realme, I mean the phone which u bought is customized by your sim(carrier) company

I unlocked my bootloader ..than I installed recovery and after than I installed vbmeta.img
After that I tried to install Havoc Os.
Now I'm stuck at bootloop, can you help me

Don't worry dude. You can still take your phone to fastboot mode. Download a FASTBOOT rom (*.gz or *.tgz) from mifirm.net then flash it via mi-flash (download from mi-globe). Follow the instructions on mifirm.net

Ok I understand that and I've downloaded the ROM but there is this sentence "1. If Fastboot firmware. The ext. must be tgz. If not. Rename it from .gz to .tgz. Extract it by WinRAR" and also these sentences "ZIP. ZIP ROM using Update function in System or TWRP EU. EU ROM flash using TWRP".
I am just completely lost

To be simple : your flash went wrong probably with a bad rom download or a bad flash method.
If I were you I'd reread the post on installing Xiaomi.eu rom and redownload the whole.
Install OrangeFox recovery with the corresponding thread in the forum and ask if you're still lost

Well I started on this site https://magiskmanager.com/#How_to_I...Version_220_on_Android_Custom_Recovery_Option and downloaded the stuff that the site said was needed

And which recovery are you using ?

You should be able to reflash stock and recover your phone using the MiFlash tool.
Download fastboot ROM here, and MiFlash tool here.

And also the problem is, that my phone (Poco X3 NFC) isn't being shown in the MiFlash software. I can access the fastboot screen on my phone and yet it still won't show up

But I am pretty sure I tried to install TWRP Recovery

Mate that's just caused by something going wrong. The only times I get that message is the times I have tried to flash a GSI.
I don't know if you can with this unit?
I've fixed that about 5 times with miflash or miflashpro.
Do you have miflash?
It forces a reformat of Miui recovery rom an then you can start again. Just pay close attention to the bottom right hand corner an make sure it is off default. Default is 'relock bootloader'.

everything is up an running you should be able to get it into fastboot mode (picture of little rabbit fixing his android) an use miflash to reformat an force a flash of miui recovery rom.
I had that happen once with me an it turned out it was my type c cable. Pulled it out an plugged in a wala. PC could connect with my Poco

The problem is that my computer can't find my phone. Nothing happens when I plug in the USB-C Cable. It doesn't work on the Fastboot screen nor does it work on "the System has been destroyed" screen. I am pretty sure I downloaded the neeeden drivers. And also, the phone was being found/recognized in the working state.

You need to extract then extract again. You double extract with a fastboot image. Then in miflash you find where you extracted that image to. Then hit refresh in miflash an your device should show in miflash. Miflash can be a tricky beast till you have practiced using it a few times

Hi. If you haven't fixed it yet you can try this: Download stock ROM from here (make sure it's the right one for your device!), choose Recovery ROM download link. Put it in your ADB folder. Do the same with recovery. Download this version of recovery as well. Enter fastboot mode on your device and connect it to your PC. Make sure it's detected. If not, try a different USB port on your computer. Open ADB using Open CMD.bat file in ADB folder.
Type in:
fastboot flash recovery OrangeFox-R11.0_6_Alpha-Unofficial-surya.img (hit Enter)
Type in:
fastboot reboot recovery
You should now be able to access your device internal storage from your PC. Copy the downloaded ROM file and OrangeFox-R11-Unofficial-Beta-surya-10-01.zip to your phone (put them in "Download" folder so they're easy to find).
Using Orange Fox recovery file manager find OrangeFox-R11-Unofficial-Beta-surya-10-01.zip and flash it then REBOOT TO RECOVERY.
Using Orange Fox recovery file manager find your ROM file and flash it. Do not reboot! Hit BACK and choose WIPE in Orange Fox menu (Trashcan icon, second from the right) and switch to Format Data at the top. Read the instructions and follow them by typing YES. Reboot to system. You should now have a working device with a clean stock ROM and a custom recovery installed and keep messing around with it

Where does one get the ADB folder? I may have downloaded a few but I don't know if those were good/correct for my device.
And what can I do when the device is not being detected by my computer? Like should I download and install some new drivers?

OK, I have wrote a flashing guide for Windows users, tho I don't use Windows so I hope all steps are correct:
Flashing LOS on Cupid
Xiaomi 12 LOS ROM flashing
Prerequisites:
Your bootloader must be unlocked.
You should use latest platform tools on Windows. https://dl.google.com/android/repository/platform-tools-latest-windows.zip
Your device should be charged above 50%. Well, it doesn't have to be, but this is just for your phones safety.
Download all required files - ROM, boot, vendor_boot, dtbo and recovery.
Make a proper backup if needed and push it to another storage.
First steps:
After you have unlocked the bootloader, device will reboot automatically. Finish the setup, enable developer settings and finally enable USB-Debugging in developer settings.
In Windows open the folder in which you have unzipped the platform tools.
Hold left shift and press right click
click "open powershell window here"
Type in Terminal for example "adb devices" and grant the permissions for this PC on your device.
Reboot your device to fastboot and connect it with your PC.
The flashing procedure:
Flash boot, vendor_boot, dtbo and recovery:
Type in Windows Terminal:
fastboot flash boot lineage-19.1-20220617-UNOFFICIAL-cupid-boot.img
fastboot flash vendor_boot lineage-19.1-20220617-UNOFFICIAL-cupid-vendor_boot.img
fastboot flash dtbo_ab lineage-19.1-20220617-UNOFFICIAL-cupid-dtbo.img
fastboot flash recovery lineage-19.1-20220617-UNOFFICIAL-cupid-recovery.img
and finally
fastboot reboot recovery or
reboot to recovery by holding volume up and power buttons until you see Mi logo on your screen (on device).
In LOS recovery:
do a factory reset first
go to "Factory reset" and perform "Format data / Factory reset"
all data will be erased. Then....
go to "Apply update", followed by "Apply from ADB"
Now sideload the ROM:
type in Windows Terminal
adb sideload lineage-19.1-20220617-UNOFFICIAL-cupid.zip
You can also drag ROM zip file into your terminal window, instead of typing the full name/path to file.
When finished, reboot simply your device.

Is there a list of what's not working? That's be helpful for people who wants to know if the rom is suitable for daily drive.

Actually SMS don't come in. And D2W doesn't work. Maybe LOS needs to be polished a little. But I am using it for more than a week as daily driver. Put my Mi 11 lite 5G in the drawer.
