Can i flash a kernel with odin? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Sup!
My phone is unable to boot due to the error "Could not do normal boot. Invalid KERNEL LENGTH!"
I already downloaded the kernel i need but since i can't even boot into recovery, i need to flash it with odin.
The file format is .zip, i couldn't find it in .tar format and inside of the zip also isn't a .tar but two .img files and some other important looking stuff.
Is there any way that i can flash the kernel back on?
TIA for any help

Will this work, its a bit old but you can give it a shot.

recovery tarball

Samsung Galaxy S3(SCH-I535)
I think my recovery.img file was bad because I am stuck in odin(downloading,,,).(dd copied something) Odin can see the phone but adb cannot. I just want to flash a new recovery. I have multiple img files but I cannot find a tarball for this version of the S3.
Where can I find a recovery tarball that will work with odin? I do not want to load a new rom just fix the booting.
Thanks

[Q] Couldn't find this one either...

Does TWRP recovery for the One S (S4) T-Mo require me to flash a seperate boot.img when I flash a rom, say Trickdroid v8.0? I want to flash either CM10 or Trickdroid but I'm not sure if TWRP will automatically access the boot.img in the ROM.zip. Any help would be greatly appreciated:fingers-crossed:
try just flashing the .zip and if it doesn't work then boot back into recovery and wipe then boot into bootloader -> fastboot, extract the files from the .zip on your computer, then flash the boot.img manually through fastboot, then boot into recovery and install the .zip. trial and error. it's how we learn
p.s. i know that cwm recovery automatically flashes the boot.img but twrp might not

What makes a custom recovery stay?

Hi,
According to many articles I've read, stock Android rewrites the recovery partition with a stock recovery image at each boot. So to make a custom recovery stay we're asked to remove a file called "recovery-from-boot.p" in /system which does work.
But WugFresh's Nexus Toolkit flashes a file called "perm-recovery-signed.zip" to make it say. And to revert to stock recovery, it downloads and flashes the stock recovery image and then flashes a file called "undo-perm-recovery-signed.zip".
I'd have guessed just flashing the zip would make the ROM replace the Custom Recovery with the Stock version. Why does it flash the recovery? What do these files do?
Clarification is appreciated.
Thanks.

Installing 2.8.x.x TWRP

What method are people installing newer versions of TWRP newer than 2.7.x? The latest .img file on official TWRP site is 2.6.x, AutoRec installs 2.7.x, which is too old to utilize the flash .zip install. The "dd" method also says to use an .img file. Am I missing something? Can I do it via fastboot? Thought that's like the "dd" method. I also tried to download 2.8.0.0, 2.8.1, 2.8.3, hoping to incrementally flash, but that did not work either. I just did a LG Flash tool revert back to KK because my attempt to root LP resulted in Security Error boot screen.
I did notice the recovery.img file in many versions of the .zip file have the same date and it's from 2008. Is it supposed to be the same and so old?
I don't know if this is related, but whenever my G2 screen turns off now and turn back on, I'm getting whitish vertical garble screen. I did something wrong by trying to flash .img file I extracted from .zip file not knowing it's not the right image file.

Question Anyone has the original recovery.img for android12?

Well,i tried getting TWRP for this phone, and well,it worked. One hour later i reboot the phone to install a gsi and i get the error that "The phone has been flashed with unauthorized software". I tried getting the stock firmware, and well,i did get it,but for some reason i cant extract the "AP" tar,but all else works. So i tried to flash stock vbmeta, and well,i get a different error now, that the firmware mismatches some kind of key. and now i cant use the phone, unless i get stock recovert
and also i cant just flash the zip because im on linux and cant use odin
You can use Odin4 for Linux to flash back the stock firmware package. Your error is probably happening due to flashing a stock vbmeta img, you need a patched one in order to be able to run custom software in your phone.
