Had anyone tried Magisk 20.2 and manager 7.5.0?
Is it bootloop free with OS 10?
I updated to the canary release through TWRP and I've been good. I'd expect you won't boot loop, but do a backup first if you can.
I updated thru mm ( after updating mm thru mm) and installed the recommended way in app. No issues.
LG G6 Pie
just updated to M 20.2 my LG G6 H870 Pie thru mm and got into bootloop. no way out and reset phone with LG Bridge (LGup not working for me since 9.0) without data loss. tried again from twrp and bootloop again. now flashing last 20.1 and won't install till next update.
I have latest Magisk Canary & Magisk Manager Canary from today, 02.01.2020. Working fine.
Did the Direct Install and all up to date! ?
I have OP6T with Android 10 AND recently updated to magisk 20.2 and Is working fine for me
Modules don't work in Magisk 20.2. They get installed but they don't take effect. I have to go back to Magisk version 20.1.

Hi, just installed 20.3 and all is working; reading the log, problems for 20.2 were known with LG.
All is ok!
20.3 everything work fine!
Hi to everyone I'm on magisk 20.1, can I update directly to magisk 20.3 via magisk manager or before I've to uninstall some modules (maybe oos native call) like rom update?

I've never had to uninstall modules to update Magisk (I have Swift Installer and xXx modules). Just update the manager app and do direct install of the update.

I'm pretty sure i couldn't be the only one who recently updated from 16.0 to 17.0 (Stable Channel). I first updated the magisk manager and it prompted me to flash 16.0(1600) instead of a 17.0 version. Well since i flashed the 16.0(1600) version it prompted me to download, i got into a nasty bootloop and thankfully recovered with me having the stock ROM in my storage. I'm wondering if anyone else went through the bootloop i did this morning and if people should just flash the newer zips outside of the manager

I also got a bootloop but I flashed 17.0 through twrp. I had to go through the qualcomm drivers process to unbrick it because it was hard bricked lol
Flashed uninstall magisk and than magisk 17 and all worked well.

That's horrible to have a hard bricked device. There's a hotfix that just got released right at this moment (17.1) so i'd recommend you to download that and continue the process to try getting root access back
Got the same problems as described here. Then I downloaded the latest Magisk uninstaller and Magisk 17 from the Magisk thread. The next step was to flash the uninstaller and afterwards Magisk 17 and the device booted well.
Running 17.1 and still getting the same thing with safety net check as before
The response is invalid

Yeah that's what I did and everything is fine... For now lol. Thanks
From Magisk 17.0 to Magisk 17.1, install it automatically. SafetyNet test successful
it's better and more secure deinstall first magisk manager clearing cache and data, install magisk 17.1 from twrp and if magisk manager doesnt be installed, install the apk
For the life of me I cannot root this latest patch. I have tried 6 times either with having the Magisk app repack the boot image or by booting TWRP to install the Magisk zip. Using either method forces my phone into the same state/condition. When the phone reboots, it goes into recovery which says the data on my phone may be corrupt and prompts me to either try again or factory restore (erase data).
i was able to. i booted into twrp, sideloaded the twrp installer, then the magisk zip and sultan kernel and everything is running smoothly for me
Ok, so I was able to recover and root from an answer given in a pixel 3 thread using:
Pixel 3/Pixel 3 XL
- fastboot flash boot --slot all boot.img (from December factory image)
- fastboot boot twrp-3.2.3-1...img
- install Magisk' uninstaller
- magisk-18.0.zip
- reboot system
What happens though is when I use adaway to update the hosts file, it breaks everything and I can't boot into system until I do the above steps again. Strange...
Do you have adaway install by chance?
Hi! I have no problem with last update, magisk nor adaway. I just flashed last update with flash-all.bat script, than fastboot twrp, install magisk ver. 18... and everything is working on 100%.
To successfully root on the Dec update you must use Magisk v18.0
[2018.12.8] Magisk v18.0 - Root & Universal Systemless Interface [Android 5.0+]
If you've used an older version, you'll get a boot loop into Recovery.
Side load / install the uninstaller from @topjohnwu's page linked above.
Then side load / install again with v18.0
Use the uninstaller first.

I'm on the December patch and am rooted with Magisk 17.1.
I actually just noticed the new update and am fixing to update Magisk. But you don't have to use v18. 0 to root December update. I've been on December update since it came out and rooted like always right away and haven't had any bootloops.
I rooted okay today with Magisk 18.0. It sounds like some people have had problems if they did not first uninstall Magisk with the latest uninstaller. That's what I did as a precaution (rather than just restoring the stock boot.img with the Magisk app, before upgrading the factory image).

I had issues on both of my Pixel 2 phones trying to use any Magisk less than v18.0
I also had issues with v18.0 until I used the uninstaller first.
I read that other people were having the same issue.
I guess you got lucky?

I guess so. I always open the .bat file and remove the -w so that it don't we my phone tough. Not sure if that makes a difference.

I enabled automatically granted root access and after a few mins after boot it granted access to adaway and after a reboot it seems to have worked again.

I was thinking of trying to fix a few minor things like won't boot with charger plugged in and Google Pay getting screwed up every once in a while...but figured I would ask first.
To be safe I was going to nandroid backup, TWRP Magisk Uninstaller, TWRP Magisk 18.1 installer and try it out later on....it seems people have reported bootloops on other phones upgrading from the Magisk Manager app...

Using the new magisk 18.1 or 18?
You asked about 18.1.
I am on 9.0.3 with 18.1 magisk and the new magisk manager
Hi to all,
I am on OB12, and I'm no longer able to root since I tried to upgrade from Magisk 18 to 18.1
I already tried the 2 last versions of Magisk uninstaller and also to reflash OB12, but still impossible to root.
What is very strange is that if I flash Smurfkernel it says that I'm rooted, but after booting, no Magisk APK and impossible to install it !
Any suggestions?
Thank in advance for any help.
I have already had Magisk 18.1 on stock 9.0.3 and it was fine. I upgraded from Magisk 18 through Magisk manager.
No problems here.

This is the first think I did, but unsuccessfully: Magisk Manager gave an error message installation unsuccessful like if not rooted.
It's why I flashed the Magisk uninstallers in order to clean all previous installations that could create problems, but whatever I do, rooting is missing after booting.
Really strange...(and annoying)
OP here -- I updated and am having no issues, but I did it all through TWRP by uninstalling Magisk 18.0 first and then re-installing 18.1 before rebooting. I had already updated Magisk Manager from the app.
Only thing I noticed was I had to reset up all my settings (Magisk hide for Direct TV Now, and re SU authorize all root apps). First reboot everything was slow with root apps waiting for SU access before the request came through, but then everything was fine once it was granted.

You might could try dirty flashing your ROM and then try Magisk again. You could have something jacked up.
(of course don't forget about TWRP if you go dirty flashing your ROM)

Yes I tried this too, but unsuccessfully !
And I'm even not sure that a full wipe will help, because it concerns another partition.
So I just updated my pixel to Android 10. And besides the issue with getting TWRP to work, I've been trying, and failing, to get Magisk installed.
I havn't tried the newer Magisk beta yet. Does anyone know if this would work instead?
Thanks
it works with me with the latest TWRP and Magisk

Okay, so with TWRP 3.3.0 with the no-pin workaround, I wasn't able to install magisk 19.3. However, I was able to get the Beta 19.4 to work.
Hey, I have tried to flask Magisk from TWRP on my realme 5 RMX1911, with ROM Lineage os 17.1 and 16 also.
But it always gets stuck in bootloop
Any way to successfully install magisk on LineageOS roms?
I also tried too many times but it's the same problem. I guess realme 5 can't be rooted.

Yes Magisk 20.3 gets successfully installed with gapps too.
Try Magisk 20.2 for LineageOS 16
Afaik when you flash magisk don't forget to flash vbmeta 2
