Looking for a good way to increase volume slightly, specifically for the speaker or the bluetooth. I've found tons of great articles that talk about editing mixer_paths.xml. Those instructions work great on nearly every other android phone I've seen...but not the M8. The naming is completely different.
For example:
- Articles say to change the speaker, you need to go to the <path name="speaker"> section and change the volume.
- On the M8, that section is empty.
My guess is that it's different section names than other phones, but I haven't figured out which is which. Anyone know?
If you're rooted you can use V4a audio mod. It has a lot of settings including increasing the gain. Mine is so loud at full volume I actually have to talk over the sound coming from external speakers!

I'd prefer not to use V4a. Tried it, didn't care for it. I'd much rather find out the really easy text change in the mixer_paths.xml
Thanks though!
*Bump*
Currently just using H/K for the volume boost it gives bluetooth. Would love to find out what setting to change to adjust this myself...
Requirements:
1. Root
2. X-plore or any other file manager with root access
Procedure:
1. Extract and replace "mixer_paths.xml" in root/system/etc
2. Change the permissions to rw-r--r--
3. Restart your mobile
Note:
I won't be responsible if anything goes wrong.
I'm also providing the stock xml file if you want to revert back to the original settings.
Thanks to AndroPlus for providing custom kernel & recovery for the Z5P Dual.
***Version 2 added with sound from both speakers in speaker mode during a voice call***
Thanks!
As soon as I want to go full volume the music stops. I use music player app with podcast and I let the music play as soon as the aux cable plugs in.

I haven't tested it with the aux cable. The in built speaker & the headphones are working fine.

It seems like it goes off automatically because of security? Maybe because the device "thinks" I'm using headphones and it will damage my ears when I set the volume this high. I'm using the aux cable for in my car.

Yes, maybe so. What happens if you don't turn it up to the full volume, I mean at 90 percent volume.
If I turn it up to 90 there is no problem

@arjun.arora I just compared the original file mixer_paths.xml with your modded mixer_paths.xml, and didn't find any differences.
Can you point out what you edited ?

i just tested your soundmod, i think the speaker's have a hardware-security-function because at full volume the speaker's are about 2 sec loud and then somehow again a bit more quiet something like a protecting feature, can't say if it is software-limited or hardware-limited.

Send me the stock xml file for the Z5, I'll take a look.
Can you take a screenshot of the settings you changed? That way, people can change them on their own until they find the best setting for their phone and earbuds
Is your Mod is Stereo also for Incoming call ringtones ?
I Mean is Ringtone sound comes from both speaker for incoming Call & Notifications Sound ?
Yes, both speakers play the ringtone. Sound from the bottom speaker is louder than the top one.

What? Do you have a patent on the term stereo soundmod. Are you kidding me? This mod is for Xperia Z5P dual. Suggest me an alternative name if you feel insecure or offended.

What Abt premium sound mod?
Why not use this name.
If not change the name then i will not publish my soundmod here in future.
Hi, will this work on regular Z5 ? I'd like to try it out especially if it increases bottom speaker

Well it should. Do one thing, send me your stock mixer_paths.xml file. I'll edit it.
I have oneplus one i opened it just out of curiosity and i broke(scrapped off) 3 diod from main chip-set placed just above mic flex cable connection slot. My mic stopped working. while recording video i get beep sound + my sound but while calling i only get beep sound. I dont think hardware repair is possible so i was wondering if there is any software way to make other mics as primary (any specific ROM that offers this or any other manual coding method)?

An edited XML file could work.. I'll try to find it, there are threads discussing similar topics, but haven't seen this exact scenario..

I'm looking at my theory.. The threads are in conjunction to low mic volume, but if you alter the path, you may be able to change the input source..
I'm thinking to make the speaker mic the new main mic..
This is mixer_paths.XML in /system /ect

So what we need to do is
- deactivate main mic
- take input from other mic
- make it primary
any other point i am missing?

My phone isn't broken, so I can't say as to which mic is working instead of another.. Don't worry though, you won't brick your phone by rooting, nor this mod..

You can always rub your finger over the mic. If the noise is low, it`s not that mic that is being used.

How did the script run???
I have the same exact problem. My HTC One main mic has been damaged, whenever Im on call the other end only gets the static noise but can hear clearly in loudspeaker mode (ie from my secondary mic), is there a way to disable the primary mic and make the secondary mic as primary ??
Hello, I have a regular pixel 3 and the ringtones/notifications are way too soft. I've noticed that if I'm playing a game or watching a video, the volume is great when notifications come through. Is there a way for notifications and ringtones to use the same audio channel (not sure if I'm using the right terminology here) that video and games use? I've read that it's "working as intended" per Google, and notifications and ringtones only play through the bottom speaker. Just trying to find a way to not miss so many calls when the phone is in my pocket.
Tldr: the notifications are too soft, and can it be fixed.?

Does that require further configuration, or will it "just work" after installation? I've read about it, and I think I need root for it, which I'm willing to do, just want to make sure I can get it working if I go the root route.

2.7.1 pretty much just works, you still need to configure it to Ur taste but it's a lot easier to install than previous versions
That's awesome, thanks for your answers. Final question - do you have viper4android installed on your pixel 3 and can confirm the audio plays out of both top and bottom speakers at a louder volume?
Yes it does indeed

If you read a couple of posts up, I asked the same question and acidspider said viper4android does utilize both speakers for notifications and ringtones and plays at a louder volume according to him/her. As to configuration, I don't know. I haven't tried it yet. I was probably gonna wait a bit and try it later. Maybe after the August updates.
Clean it with alcholo
Still not loud and doesn't use both speakers

I've tried every setting I could and the Pixel 3 ringers and notifications are still not loud and will not play out of the top speaker!
Someone should be able to figure this out?
It would really help if both speakers were utilized.

Yes both speakers work except for ringers and notifications.
I don't see why that shouldnt work, have you the audio modification library and audio compatibility mod installed from magisk?
Yes they are installed. No matter what I do the ringer will not come out of the top speakers nor get loud enough.

ok, ringtone/notification still low volume, but after testing the viper4android IS working in general sounds. Just not for the ringtone/notification, lol!
I haved personalised ringtone and the volume war too low. Since I use the officially ringtone, this is fine for me.
No solution found!

No, I haven't found a solution and the phone is still brand new in the box since it is useless if I can't hear it ring!
I also have a 3XL and the ringers and notifications also only come out of the bottom speaker but at a higher level.
I know someone can or has already figured it out.
I cant seem to disable Absolute Volume from developer options. I ticked the box, but it just still active. Does anyone know a fix for this?

interesting, I have 3 Bluetooth audio devices and never had this issue. Is it the same with a different Bluetooth device?
Funny, I just had a look and I can disable and enable the option. I'll test later to see if I notice a difference. FWIW, I'm on stock EEA 12.0.2.0 firmware

Hello,
I was also looking for this option but indeed it was no longer in the developers options, but I found it it is in bluetooth and in the small arrow on the right, with the name Absolute volume.
Voila voila
