Hi i already installed GMS, and install all Google app. I mostly use Google map for my daily commute. It work when open app and navigate. However, after sometime middle of my journey, the app close down by itself. Afterward, i try to open the app again not working. I have to wait for a while to re open the app again. Any recommendation?? What wrong?? Thank you very much

Only real mod done Xposed Framework but no modules are active.
Any 3rd party app I try that uses the Google maps for it's map function won't show any maps in it.
Yet Google maps itself does. the Google is at version 6.6.
I know there's a newer version but when I update to that, when I try to open Google maps it shows a screen
that has a button "accept & continue". When I click it it shows a notification saying it can't connect to network yet everything else CAN connect to the network.
I don't really care whether the google maps works or not but I need it to work for where I do use it in the 3rd party apps.
Has anyone heard of this problem? Or has any kind of idea of what to do?

Just use "OSM" you ca download it using the F-Froid store. In my opinion google the maps ap is really crappy. OSM provides online + offline maps so you wont need a internet connection after downlaoding the maps you needs.
The app I use the most that uses maps is Waze and that has it's own map system but I do like to use other apps that use the google map service.
How would that F-Droid help? It looks like it uses some other kind of system. The other apps I use look like they call the google service.

OSM uses free "open source maps" that means O.S.M.
I can't seem to find this OSM or openstreetmap (which I see other apps referring to) on there anywhere to even try it.
Have you downloaded F-Droid app and installed it on your phone?

Oh, ok. So it works like the Xposed Framework.
Some apps are only available through this F-Droid interface itself then, correct?

You have to try it as I use another phone, but i install it always in that way no matter which phone.
I think I'll save that for a last resort
I haven't been having much luck getting things back to the way they were after I try something new.
If I can't find ANY other way to fix google's map service then I might try that.
Thanks.
Anyone else?

That means u use google's maps by choice? :crying:
I'm only using the google maps in the apps that call on google's service.
Waze it what I use most and it has it's own map system.
I want to save it as a last resort because I'm afraid of breaking anything else and not being able to get back.
Well I uninstalled the Xposed Framework and tested to see if that was what was doing it but it isn't.
So I put it back in.
Comeon! Someone has to have an idea on what could be causing it and how I can make the Google maps work right in other apps again.

Ok LS.xD, I did a little more looking at FDroid and from what I've seen it looks like it's kind of a separate market for apps.
If I were to install it would I still be able to use Play store?
And if I install it and find tha open street maps will that replace the ggogle map api service for 3rd party apps?
If it does and I eventually find a fix for the google api and decide I'd rather go back to that will uninstalling it return control back to Google?
I tried installing the gapps package for ics hoping that would overwrite whatever the problem is to no avail.
I've had over 150 views on this and no-one can give me any ideas?
What would you try if it were your device?
Hi,
I am looking for a simple map viewer for Gear 2.
There are a few apps for maps but they all focus on navigation. I am not interested in navigation. I just would like to have a snapshot of my location on Google Map. (Also maybe moving around the map by gestures.)
Is it too difficult to write such app ?
There are tons of nonsense apps which are really far more complex than this but nobody has ever wrote such simple one.
thx.

It could be more difficult then you think.
On android you put a mapview object in your app and ask it to load a map for a location, that is basically it.
There is also a web api for google maps to use in a browser (never done that myself);
That is what is need for the gear, but the gear browser (the apps are basically browser windows with html5/css/javascript),
can not get the maps data by itself, it has to get it via the phone app.....

try the gear navigator that is available from the samsung store since yesterday. Yes if focuses on navigation but will also show a snapshot of the map on the gear2.

I have already tried it today.
It's too far complex , and the result is:
- battery consuming on the phone, because the app has to be on foreground and it uses GPS all the time.
- battery consuming on the Gear itself. (nonstop connection to the phone)
- necessity to have a running navigation. Why do I need it when I just want to see a snapshot of my location ?
- necessity to run the app on phone (can't run anything to view on phone screen)
Instead of all that necessity and complexity, I am just looking for a snapshot of my current location. Maybe updated on touch of a screen, or update every few minutes...
This way it wouldn't consume battery of the Watch and the Phone.

in fact, a very simplistic approach would be;
- get a screenshot of Google Maps on phone every X seconds
- update it to the browser window on Gear 2.

But for the screenshot, the phone need to be on and then you could better use the phone anyway.
you want to be able to do it with the phone in your pocket, screen locked.
but keep thinking, maybe we discover a way to do it......
Hi,
Apart from my screenshot idea, I believe this is much more simple than creating a navigation app. It will just update the current location view periodically.
No one is interested in this ?
thx.
Finally. Someone made it. Thanks to Aleksandr Martiushev. App name is Gear Guide.

Never mind, it was a my error, it's also available for Galaxy S3. The app works fine, waiting for an implementation of a blue line for the indications, like on google maps!
I have been a long time Android user. One very minor but still annoying thing that I can't get to work is having Waze open up and navigate whenever I say "Navigate to [location]". I have cleared Maps as default app but what I am seeing is whenever I say that command, it opens Chrome, looks for the location, and launches Google Maps (as I think it uses a Google Maps link on the Chrome search results).
Any workaround for this?

Hi, Thank for using XDA assist
There is a general forum for android here http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help where you can try to ask to get expert's help.
Good luck
Me and several friends of the German PX5 community have severe problems with google maps on PX5 units.
It often hangs especially after input destination on route calculation or after that starting moving map, but also after some time of moving map up.
I have the issue with the latest hot audio rom as with Malaysk both using the same kernel from rocky 28-AUG, others told having the issue for some time already.
I'm testing the unit for 4 weeks now and first haven't experienced the issue so much, but after others told I tested google maps more intensively and it is reproducible with increasing intensity. You can trigger it easily doing a voice input to some city some 100 miles away "OK Google - route to ....". I usually need only few tries then.
Or you can download version 4.46.2.
9.46.2 is the right version

Same issue here, just when you start to navigate it hangs. Maybe when maps starts its route announcement, never hear that. Happens in all roms that I have tried. Just installed Malaysk V5, tried V4, stock and rooted HA. Tried all the forum tips and tricks like turn off navigation monitoring, be persistent, no offline maps.
Yes, remove maps and install the 9.46.2 apk and don't update it until the issue is fixed. Lots of links to it on the forum to it or can be found on the web. I also tried 9.50.2 and it worked about 95% of the time. I heard someone trying a beta 9.61.0 said it worked OK. Let's hope it does and it is released soon.
Until then it would be nice if someone with the know how could trouble shoot this and get to the root of the issue.
Same thing here.. MX head unit. the only version that works without issues is 9.46.2.
Is this issue in PX3 units as well or they are able to run the latest version without issues?? Anyone knows?

Issue is that if you use AndroidAuto, it will update the Maps application and you are back where you started.
In titanium backup, you can turn off the auto update per app.

Is that different from turning it off in the play store?
No but in play store you can only do this for all apps. In titanium you can do this for every app separately.

Play store will do it separately. When in my apps, to to the store on the app you want to disable and click the menu upper right and uncheck auto update.

Right, but AndroidAuto will ask you to update Maps, and if you say no, it will exit. Unless you're saying the titanium backup will override this behaviour?
So anyone knows if google maps new versions work ok on PX3 head units?
I don't but no big deal to try.
If not just delete and install older apk, login all your data is in google cloud.
Only offline maps take time and data to download.

I do not have a PX3 unit ( I have a PX5), so I am asking if anyone with PX3 unit have the same issues with google maps.
I recommend keeping 9.42 apk on the device in case it is accidentally updated in the field and rollback needed.
I had to clear data memory of Google App, Services and Playstore due to several crashes of google - indicating more issues then just google maps.
After that autoupdate was enabled again and done, so be careful if you have to do this some day, disable wifi or whatvever to prevent update.
It is not a problem to install the older apk over the newer, but offline maps are gone then and so it is better to deinstall and reinstall anyway to prevent problems. Selecting the offline map ranges is somehow buggy (random shifts) and download takes lot of time and data some GB.
Not that this is a solution, but I've switched to using Waze.
Doesn't crash.
Doesn't work with Android Auto either though.
Can anyone provide the correct link to the working Google maps? There are multiple variations.
Is it this one?

How did you install on watch? I tried multiple ways with no success. When I go out to play page I'm only able to install to phone.

I have installed Google keep on watch and it has synced my notes, however it is missing a Search button/function which makes the app worthless for me...

How did you install it? Did you have to change any permissions or anything on the phone to get it to sync?
Hi, I don't remember any specific issues, just went to the Play store and tapped on the option available/install on other devices (GW4). If you have issues, you may try to look up the APK (from APKmirror or similar) and ADB side load it on the watch. As I have tried sideloading on the watch also the phone app (because of the missing search function on the watch app) and it opens but does not seem to be able to search either and frequently crashes maybe because of insufficient RAM. Finally I tried using a chrome browser app on my watch (sideloaded again from a watch APK) and by using the web interface of Google Keep and it works but is a mixed experience due to interface not being optimized for a watch/ circular screen etc
Anyone have any luck getting Google Keep to stop syncing? I've tried reinstalling on the watch and phone, clearing various caches, etc. No luck. I only have five notes, so it shouldn't be a heavy lift.
I´ve also installed keep on my GW4 from the play store on the watch. And it also keeps syncing. When I´m fast enough after app start and click on one of my 3 notes, it opens and I can edit successfully.
I had these issues in the past also on notes for smartphone but on some update they fixed it. I guess we have to wait for an app update from Google. In the meantime, we´ve to pull out our smartphone during shopping
Similar to the previous post, if I open Keep and quickly select "Show All", it'll of course post the "Syncing" banner.
But then, I leave the app (right swipe), open Keep again and quickly scroll down my Notes before the banner can display, I'll see my million+ notes.
Sometimes I have to re-enter the app again and scroll quickly to the bottom of the list again before the banner displays, but it'll work - at least for me.
Hope this helps!
And I hope Google fixes this! Don't they test their code??
Have the same issue. Literally nothing works on this POS.

Got an update to Keep on the phone today, and it appears to have fixed the syncing issue! You'll have to uninstall Keep from your watch, then re-install it, but so far so good!
