Edit: sorry all, I have discontinued my efforts due to no time. I apologize, hopefully there is someone who can figure this out and implement an easy fix.
Ok, so I have been slacking on actually getting this in the pipeline, but I did
unlock my Verizon GSIII day 1 with the generic code from the pre-order agreement. Per the pics that will follow my post, you will see that I do not have the SIM popup bugging me, and in fact am running the Verizon GSIII on AT&T EDGE:2 & GPRS. I am currently unable to pull APN's from AT&T, and do not currently have data. Voice works flawlessly, however.
For those who DIDN'T read, and signed their name on the dotted line because they want to be left in the dark to their own problems, here are the 2 generic unlock codes:
123456
or
000000
This should be entered in the popup you will receive from using an invalid SIM.
More to come.
Here are instructions for flashing to another CDMA network, credit MikeyCriggz.

Please Note:
You must be on an AOSP ROM in order for this to work. If you're not on one and would like to keep the stock ROM, make a NANDROID backup and flash one (CM10, AOKP, etc.). I take no credit for this, I am only providing the information (all credits go to adam3rd for his post in the Motorola Bionic forums)
Before Starting:
Make sure your SIM card is NOT in your phone
Activate phone through Page Plus using the first 15 digits of the IMEI (drop the very last digit)
Download this Page Plus PRL file: http://www.4shared.com/file/qryS5x4T/51720_EVDO.html
Download CDMA Workshop 3.8 Demo: www.cdma-ware.com
I used CDMA Workshop 3.8 demo version to do this and can verify it works.
Let's Do This:
1) Put phone in diagnostic mode (here's how: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtcEop4Dhdk)
2) Download and install all necessary drivers here: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SCH-I535MBBVZW
3) Connect phone to computer via USB
4) Open CDMA Workshop & click on the "Ports" drop down menu. Select the one that says "diag", it should be at the bottom. If not, then open Windows Device Manager and find your device. Note what COM port it's connected to and select that in CMDA Workshop (for example: COM12).
5) Click "Connect" to connect phone
6) In the main tab, click "SPC" send "000000" to unlock your phone.
7) Go to the PRL tab to load the Page Plus PRL to your phone. Select "Write" and find the PRL you downloaded earlier. It should now write to your device.
8) Turn off phone and pull the battery.
9) Insert your SIM card and replace the battery. Power up and after boot your phone should go into OTA Programming (if not, then dial *22890)
10) Open the dialer and dial *#*#4636*#*# (it will prompt you for a passcode, type "000000"). Go to "Phone Information" and find the drop down menu that says "CDMA Auto PRL" and change it to "CDMA Only"
11) Back out of this and go back into the dialer. Dial ##program and go to "Test Mode". Press next until you see a screen that says something like "EVRC HDR Hybrid Mode". Change the Network Type to CDMA and back out to the main screen. Your phone will now restart.
12) Check Settings>Phone>Status and make sure the Mobile Network Type says CDMA 1XTT. You should now have 1X data, voice, and text.
13) Dial *#*#4636*#*# again (entering in the "000000" passcode when prompted) and go back to "Phone Information". Change the "CDMA Only" back to "CDMA Auto PRL". Back out until you are at the home screen
14) Power down, remove battery and SIM card, replace battery and power back up.
15) Dial ##program again and go back into "Test Mode". Hit "Next" until you're back at the screen that says "EVRC HDR Hybrid Mode" again. Change Network Type to EVDO and press back until your phone restarts.
16) Check Settings/Phone/Status and make sure the Mobile Network Type says "CDMA EvDo rev A". If it says eHRPD, then you need to redo steps 10 through 15 again.
17) Dial *#*#4636#*#* go and go back to "Phone Information". Change "CDMA Auto PRL" to "Unknown" and back out.
18) Check Settings/Phone/Status and make sure the Mobile Network Type says "CDMA EvDo rev A". If it says eHRPD, then you need to redo steps 10 through 15 again.
14) Power down your phone, replace the SIM card and power back up. You should now have 3G data, talk, and text.

It would be good to have a global SIII.
About APNs,I do not know anything so forgive my ignorance.... but on another phone I used a battery saving app whuch screwed up my data, and I finally got my data back by using Anycut, APN, then restore default APNs.. then rebooted and my data was restored.

I have already tried all of the common routes. The settings menu crashes/force closes anytime I try to restore defaults or anything like that. The *#*#4636#*#* menu is the only one that I can actually make changes in that stick. Anything in the network settings crashes.

Dumb question but are you using an active AT&T sim card in your verizon g3? Or what sim card do you have in the phone?
OP, have you switched back to Verizon's network? Did everything work?

Being that this is a melting pot of US GS3 and we have other users from other providers posting, just stating you are on TMo only tells me that you are on TMo, not that you have the d2vzw device.

Hi there,
I've a sim mod rooted MPQ and it work just fine back in China with a carrier named United Comm(WCDMA), but now I'm here in RiverSide CA and my phone won't roaming. Even if I removed the sim card, there are still signal sign and I'm not able to switch the mobile network mode to WCDMA and it ask me to activate the phone each time I turn it on. I think it's locked. I want to use a T-MOBILE sim card. Is there any thing I can do?

It keeps connecting to Sprint from the sounds of it... if you remove the SIM and it still connects to signal.
I thought there was some software modifications necessary for it to work in the US?
Did you bother reading any threads? There's several that are about this exact topic.

Well I guess I would answer that question first... can you try the SIM in another device? Does the SIM work?
Now the other issue - re-read that thread, there is some good info on frequencies if you missed it... perhaps the Q does not support the frequencies you require?
Good luck.

i bought my phone on ebay (with sim-mod). someone was selling it from the us because he had problems like u. so i only paid 110€ for modded phone. was looking like new + unlocked bootloader status code 1 and unreleased test-rom with apps from sprint, google and motorola
but back to your problem go to the dialer type *#*#4636#*#*
then a menu will open. click on the first tap iam not sure but i think the name is phone information. in the window that popup scroll down.
there is a dropdown-menu. maybe that can help you. try diffrent things. i think cdma is the right?
if that doesnt help. u can change the baseband by pressing preference in the navigationBar if u are still in the phone information menu.
maybe a reboot is needed to let the changes work. but if u rebooted check first if the options u take are still set. sometimes they reset by rebooting

OK, I'm a bit paranoid. But I am worried that if I activate with Sprint, they may download god knows what to the phone.
Would I still get the normal Google updates? Will Sprint download something to disable tethering? Will the SIM slot suddenly be locked? Will they do something else evil to my phone?

Unlike with the old Galaxy Nexus, you should continue to get normal Google updates
Tethering - not sure if tethering will be free on Sprint - but if it is free, and Sprint blocks it, what's stopping you from downloading the stock ROM from google, and installing it over your existing ROM after activation?
(same answer for SIM slot, and anything else evil)
Disclaimer: I don't have my N5 yet - hopefully later this week, so can't say for sure
I can see why one could be paranoid but I don't think sprint is going to mess with n5 at all.

Well, at this page here: https://community.sprint.com/baw/co...mbassadors-nexus-5--gimme-some-of-that-kitkat
a Sprint rep says:
Yes, you can activate on Sprint. You will need to obtain a Sprint UICC (LTE SIM) from Sprint retail / dealer / web / tele and install, which should pair UICC to MEID automatically. You then go to sprint.com/activate to set up service. Note: In between power-on and Sprint provisioning there is an initial 128 MB update so make sure you're in a WiFi capable area during initial setup of an "unlocked" device.
I wonder what that initial 128 MB download is? I suspect it would not be possible to get an answer from Sprint.

That 128 MB download is for all Nexus 5 devices on initial boot, not just when setting up with Sprint. Just a last minute bug fix to the 4.4 rom that shipped I'm sure. I had to do the update when I picked up my phone this morning . And I'm on T-Mobile.

Try clearing Sim card tool kit data.
Network reset.
Clear system cache.
Edit Access point names to correct values.
That's all I got but sure there's more. Never had use more than the above but never changed carriers. Verizon advanced tech support should be able to help... AT&T would.
The Verizon Note 10+ 5G has a different model number. So they probably won't allow the T-Mobile/Metro/AT&T version on their network

I think you're correct. AT&T is compatible with Tmobile but not Verizon according to B&H Photo compatibility charts.
So it look like AT&T is in your future. AT&T is easier to deal with anyway. Do not use a corporate store though, use over the phone or online AT&T.
It may be possible to change out the C port PCB for the Verizon variant. Yes that PCB controls internet access. I can't confirm this is the only difference though! That PCB is only $20 and relatively easy to change out.

It's actually super difficult to hard brick a Qualcomm device, and even if it is hard bricked and only enters EDL mode, it can be fixed as long as you have the correct files.
There are too many safeguards in place between Qualcomm and Samsung - the average user will always be blocked from doing anything that would brick a device. There's really no danger in flashing firmware whatsoever

My method doesn't involve root, no. You can't root if you've taken an OTA update in March of this year or later
I hope I can be of some help.
I recently ordered a Note 10+ 5G - Locked Verizon from a popular online re-seller. When I turned it on, I was greeted with an AT&T boot logo. I was pretty upset, but I though I'd try to get it up and running on Verizon before spending a couple weeks sending it back and getting a replacement. I tried Verizon's online software and I couldn't get beyond the IMEI change. It kept telling me that the Note's IMEI was what I was already using with my Droid, which was obviously not the case. So, I headed into my local Verizon store.
Nothing they did would get my 4G SIM to work, so they swapped out for a 5G SIM for free, then switched my hardware IMEI numbers and proceeded to have a some difficulty getting on the network. After doing a network reset, it seemingly worked. More on that below. I was getting both data and voice over network. I was able to transfer my setting, apps, etc from my Motorola Droid with Samsung Switch. The phone indicates both 3G and 4G signals as I travel around town. 5G is not available in my immediate area, though it is in some cities I occasionally travel to, but I'm unable to test that just yet. I become aware that there are differences between Verizon's 5G and other networks and it seems the non-Verizon phone I have is probably for the best in terms of compatibility.
Unfortunately, texts frequently take 10-30 seconds to send. Images, gifs and other non-text MMS can take multiple minutes to send and sometimes just fail. Other times the recipient will receive them twice. I feel like this may be due to the poor coverage at my residence. Further testing in areas of good to excellent coverage are necessary. I tried changing the network settings from Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks > Network Mode, but anything other than the default "GLOBAL" would result in a disconnect of data and voice services. The only way to fix it was Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This would restore the Mode to GLOBAL and bring back data and voice services.
In an effort to remove the AT&T branding, I learned how to trigger a carrier switch, dialed the code and changed it from AT&T to XAA. That got rid of the AT&T boot animation and I was able to remove all but 2 stubborn AT&T apps. I noticed that my android version was 10 and UI was 2.5, so I set out to update.
This is where things got frustrating. Every attempt to update through the settings > software update was met with failure. Try again in 24 hours, it would say. I assumed this was because I was now using a Verizon sim on an AT&T firmware, but I wasn't sure. I thought I might be able to flash to a Verizon firmware, but after several versions and some more research, I learned that going from 976U to 976V was not possible.
So, over the course of several days, I learned a lot. I looked up the firmware releases on AT&T's website for the 976U and saw that they matched the T-Mobile and MetroPCS versions. So, I settled on a T-Mobile version of Android 11 / UI 3.1. It updated without any issues and even remained in XAA mode. No bloatware, no loading images, all settings and apps the same.
So, even though I have an unlocked AT&T Note 10+ 5G 256GB and you have a T-Mobile, the fact that we both have a 976U model, I think there is hope for you to get up and running on Verizon.
Hope this has helped.
my green ultra came today.
First thing, no sim card, and they don't give you any instructions on how to activate the built in e-sim or get the EID and calling tech support was useless (I'm coming from a oreo note 9 so a lot of this is new to me, so don't make fun of me please). I got a $50 bill credit for calling and complaining about that cause they said I couldn't put my old sim in (whatever, i went with them, all i know is these are dual sim phones cause you can put a physical sim in the slot and have 2 numbers, they verified that)
A lot of settings from oreo are missing.
Edge lighting wont let you assign different visuals/colors to different apps
there's no secure boot where you have to enter a password to boot (which pisses me off cause i like that much more security.)
it's a fast phone, the screen is GREAT.
i have to restore all my apps now and get it back to the way i want and see how things go.
I guess going from 8.1 to this version of 12 is going to be a learning curve for me.
No oem unlock in dev options either
Im getting irritated
smartswitch keeps freezing and wont transfer my apps
I've never had to jump through hoops for any phone like this.
I guess I'll have to manually do this but the 45W charger took like 15 mins to go from 25 to 100 so there's that i guess
The secure boot was removed a while back (didn't have it in N20U and S21U). I'm eagerly waiting for mine to be ready for pickup at BestBuy to see how it goes. From what I've read SD devices are not showing the issues EX devices are.
I havent had any of the EX problems.
I just want a real sim and not the ESIM they set me up with (they're sending me a free real sim)
I explained that i switch phones and if this one breaks I want to beable to use my backup.
Tmobile is turning more into sprint since the merger

I feel ya.. I had e-sim on my iPhone and I went to a TMOBILE store to get a real SIM because I like to swap devices and with Tmobile to get the QR code for the eSIM is a pain in the neck.

An email was set to the email account on record detailing how to get eSIM up and running. I, as well as a few people I know, all received that email in the past few days leading up to delivery of our S22 Ultras.
I got no such email, just status updates on my order and then the tracking number.
I ordered a tmo unit too. No email. I'm just gonna pop my sim from my fold3 in it and call it a day. Definitely odd how f'd up the tmo activation thing is though.
How is heat when doing light tasks? What about gaming?
Any network performance boost coming from your previous phone?

Havent tried games yet, it gets hot charging though. From normal use it was fast and the screen is smooth at 120Hz. cant comment on the battery since it was on all the time transferring and installing stuff.

havent speed tested anything yet, but the network says 5G HC instead of 5G.
I still have to set it up, and Im still irritated its a esim cause now when i get up in 3 hours to work out I cant plop a sim back in my note 9 to watch movies when i do cardio. I cant wait til the sim card comes they sent today so I can get back to being able to swap phones when I need to.

That's main reason I was glad I migrated from Sprint to T-mobile so I feel your pain, it's so convenient with the physical Sim. Hopefully I get mine phone tomorrow, items on my order from Samsung looks like it does include new Sim.

Gonna go activate it now and get off this esim garbage. that way i'll be good for plex tomorrow!
WTF?
my phone shows up on tmobile as a 256MB burgandy
it's a 512 green
God, they are turning into sprint
got my sim in and activated, but the esim1 still says its active but on a unknown carrier with my phone number..
i probably should reboot. i did the sim while the phone was on

I have to find where to do that
Fixed
no more e-sim
Could you run Geekbench 5 benchmark and see what the score it? My T-Mobile model is pretty poor after I've spent hours setting it up might just end up flashing the U1 firmware and see if its any better.

Could you kindly post a copy and paste version of those t-mobile email instructions without your personal info for us here if it's not too much trouble?
