Time to replace my pixel 2xl and I was looking at the OP7 Pro. The only issue is that I use Google Fi and I depend on wifi calling when I'm at home. I can't seem to find any solid answers as to whether or not the OP7 Pro can do WiFi calling on Google Fi. Does anyone know for sure ? Looking to make my purchase today.
Thanks!
Looking for this answer as well
Thank you for asking this question, running into the same situation.
Also, would anyone be able to confirm if sprint or us cellular connections work? I know it won't change carriers automagically, but I have fi switch, so would like the option of switching if I could.
WiFi calling would be important to me too, since my area is almost entirely Verizon, so limited t-mobile and spring coverage (at least on the pixel xl)
I have a 7 Pro on Google Fi and at the top it says VoLte in the Fi app itself it ask if you want Wi Fi calling enabled .
My App shows Wi-Fi Calling enabled.
Hope this helps. Thanks

Me too! Should arrive on the 16th, and after binging loads of YouTube reviews, I'm honestly quite excited.

Are there any work arounds for T-Mobile Wi-Fi calling? I have crappy signal at home and need the Wi-Fi Calling cell spot thusfar. Might change to the repeater though. I am getting rid of my GS5, so the Nexus 5 is an alternative to the S5 for me. Anything is appreciated.

ill answer this again, no.
If you have a Google voice number you can link it to the new hangouts app and do calls that use only data through that.

Yes, I do, but it's from another area code. I need something to hand off my # between Wi-Fi and cellular network coverage.

If you need live handoff (mid-call), then your only real option is going w/ Republic Wireless (at least I know of no better option). If you just need your true number to follow you then the WiFi Calling is your only option but it is NOT an option on the Nexus 5 right now.
However, once the Nexus 6 WiFi Calling option is hacked a bit, there is hope that we might see it on our Nexus 5s at some point in the future. No promises, but hope! But alas, until that happens, it's simply not an option right now.

Does that mean hope for the Moto X as well it's next to stock Android? I guess I'll decide from the Nexus 6 and iPhone 6.
i read today that the nexus 5 might get tmobile wifi calling later on.
Hey guys i just receive my New moto x pure from Amazon and try my project sim in it and to my surprise it works, phone calls incoming and out going works, picture messaging and text works, didn't have to do anything to the phone i just put my sim card and download the fi app and hit activation and it was ready to go, glad it works going to get my wife a moto x now and transfer our t-mobile service .oh i did a speed test it was pretty good too

This is the important question. Your Fi sim will work on one network in most devices. Will it actively switch networks is the real issue.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
Checking right now
how do you check that exactly
I was able to get to register on the Sprint with Fi spy after a reboot
Do a battery test!
I have a Project Fi invite, could I order a SIM card right now, pop it in my Moto X Pure, and have it all ready to go? Or do I need to do it like the Nexus 5 workaround where the SIM card has to be activated from a Nexus 6?
Please keep us updated on the network functionality OP, I've never heard of Project Fi until now but it looks like a good alternative to Ting. Depends on usage, but you'd have to be pretty miserly to save more with Ting, so I'm impressed.
the battery man
This sounds really promising! I posted this question here and happy to see it works.
Now can you confirm it switches between TMO and Sprint? My new Nexus 6 arrives today but I might not open the package while I stand on the sidelines to see what the results are.

You may want to open it to activate the fi sim. New fi sims won't activate on any other phones as far as I know.

OK.. SO I have my Fi sim in but how do I check what network I'm on? How do I know it's auto switching? I read in another post that's not possible without a Nexus 6.
Install Signal Check (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.blueline.signalchecklite) it will show what networks you are connected to
Also I can't pull up sprint as a provider on the Moto X but can on the Nexus 6.

Nope. So far the only thing I get is T Mobile as a carrier and no wifi calling. Kinda sucks. I hope a ROM or workaround comes out soon. Otherwise this is going back

I suspected as such Thanks for trying it out! A ROM could be a workaround.
I contacted Essential support and asked if the phone would support WiFi calling. They responded yes but to contact the carrier to make sure. I am currently on Verizon so I contacted Verizon and they said yes it did support WiFi calling. I was a bit skeptical but I had the agent verify the phone model number. Hopefully this is accurate. I finalized my pre-order right after.
I would take this for what its worth until we have the device in our hands and can make sure. I just thought I would share.

Thank you for contacting the Verizon Wireless Chat Team regarding your device. How can we help you today?
You
I am thinking of buying the new Essential phone. I was wondering if it will support WiFi-Calling on Verizon
You
https://www.essential.com/
Verizon
That is a great question I will be glad to look into that for you today
You
It says it will support Verizon. I would like to know if it supports the WiFi Calling on Verizon. My signal is very poor at my house and work.
Verizon
Understood let me double check on the WiFi calling feature
You
thank you
Verizon
My pleasure
Verizon
I do see here that WiFi calling is supported so you will perfectly fine to utilize that feature with Verizon
You
WiFi Calling is supported on the Essential Phone? What else does it say about the Essential phone?
Verizon
I can only view tech reports so I do see that the WiFi calling is supported any other questions I would need them to be specif so that I can search
You
I am just trying to make sure we are talking about the same device.
You
I see the model listed as: Essential PH-1
You
is that the same thing you have?
Verizon
While following the link this is the newest unlocked android the device screen is pretty big yes this is the PH-1
You
ok.. Sounds good.. Thanks for your help.
Verizon
No problem at all, was there anything else that I could assist you with today?
You
Nope. All set.. Have a good one.
Wifi calling
Thank you for posting that...I was looking into this myself and emailed essential, and have not recieved a response yet. Now the question is... Yet this phone, or wait for pixel 2

Awesome. Hope this is true. Ordered mine, but if Volte and WiFi calling don't work I'll have to send it back.

I don't know how anyone could have an accurate spec sheet comparison for a phone that has not been officially announced yet. It would just be speculation and leaks, which are often wrong.
That aside, I think if one is inclined to compare this phone to the Pixel 2 (as I am), why not just wait? It will be announced soon and then you can make an actual comparison between the two phones. Also hopefully by then the other colors will be available (since I don't like the glossy black or white colors).
Unless you desparately need a new phone now, I don't see the harm in waiting.
Thanks for sharing, I'm on Verizon as well, and I just ordered my essential ph-1. Hope that rep is correct and not just blowing smoke, but at least now I can be optimistic!
So the word on the street from the first folks that got their phone is no WiFi calling for Verizon. If that is the case my phone will be going back.

Hopefully it gets certified soon. Only feature that doesn't work for me on Verizon is WiFi calling. I actually get a bar of LTE in my house so it is ok for now. My ribs iPhone gets no service just like my s8 and pixel. I'm actually shocked I get any service, nobody does where I live.
Visual voicemail won't work either.
Sent from my PH-1 using Tapatalk
I cannot get wifi calling or voicemail (either proper voicemail notification or visual voicemail to work) with Verizon. Everything else seems to work fine.
Does anyone know which default network we should use for Verizon to maximize signal and battery? I am in a fringe area so small differences in reception is a big deal.
Thanks in advance.
Does anybody know if the OP6 will support Wifi calling? More specifically in the UK?
I think someone once mentioned to me that the OP5 had Wifi calling on Three UK?
I would also like to know this answer.
I'm with three UK, and had WiFi calling on my Note8.
Unfortunately nothing has come-up on the OP6.
Will keep you updated.

Is the option there? User above has shown Wifi calling option is certainly there and works with O2.
I have Wifi calling on my Honor View 10 and that works with Three.
As OP6 doesn't appear to need special firmware to have Wifi calling, unlike say a Samsung S9+ - I would assume it's there?

Odd. I would have thought the option was available to everyone - as the OP6 isn't carrier specific and doesn't have special firmware.
its up to your mobile operator which devices to support

Not the point we're trying to make. The option for Wifi Calling in menu will be there regardless of whether the operator supports it. Some phones need a firmware from the operator to see it. But shouldn't be the case with the OP6 as there are no other firmwares, it's independent.
Nokia 3/5 - has Wifi calling option (as does iPhone) whether operator supports it or not.

That's worrying, I rely on WiFi calling in my flat right now since I get no signal at all (very thick concrete walls).
WiFi calling works flawlessly on Three on my iPhone, so if it turns out Three doesn't support it on the OP6, I might have to switch to O2/EE, both of whom have WiFi calling that works with OnePlus.
I actually went on live chat with Three a few days ago to complain about the lack of signal and WiFi calling not working on some Android devices - they first said to just use the Three inTouch app, to which I said it is garbage and barely works half the time. Eventually they caved in and gave me a £3 discount on my monthly bill. When I didn't accept that, they gave me £4... and then £5. Eventually they sent me over to the complaints team who gave me credit on my account equivalent to 2 months worth of bills and said I can cancel the contract free of any charges whenever I want.
Point is, if WiFi calling doesn't work on the OP6, go and complain to live chat, you'll get a discount on your contract or even better... and do not accept the initial offer they give you.

I don't know about WiFi calling. Never had a desire to use it or a need.

Yeah, VoLTE works but not VoWifi. Even when manually adding the option to turn VoWifi on, it doesn't work. I get crap service in my house but great service outside my house. I asked tech support about Wifi Calling and if it was provisioned on my account, but I was told if the phone can do it, the option will appear. I told them it can and it was working for another carrier. They said they don't know why it's not working. I didn't have time to stay and troubleshoot the issue though. Luckily the tech support person offered me an LTE Network Extender 2 for free. I have to wait until 10/16 for them to get more in stock though.

Verizon does not allow Wifi calling on devices it does not sell. So a Note 10 from Verizon has Wifi calling but an Unlocked Note 10 does not.
