Need some advice.
I've recently used the usb-c headphones and noticed that the connection to my Pixel 3 is loose.
Same goes for usb-c charging.
I've not noticed this before, as I use the Pixel stand and Pixel buds.
Any one else had this problem and what did they do about it.
I've read that the warranty may not cover it...
Many thanks
Had the same thing. Try cleaning the USB-C port with a small toothpick. Most of the times there's a buildup of dust in the port.
I had this issue with my pixel 2. Cleaning the port with a toothpick sounds rediculous, but indeed it does work. That said eventually my charging port wore out and and a simple breeze could cause the plug to fall out. If cleaning it with a toothpick doesn't work then RMA is your best option.
Cheers will give it a try.
Now where did I put that toothpick...
Had a similar problem (still kinda do). I charge my phone wirelessly like 99% of the time and use bluetooth headphones, so I pretty much never use the USB port. One time I needed a really quick charge, so I went to use the USB cable and got nothing... tried the USB headphones that came with it, and they also wouldn't work.
I used compressed air, nothing... toothpick, nothing... Turns out it was like corrosion on the port from not being used. I scrubbed it out with toothbrush for a long time and everything magically worked again.

In one week I have succeed to break my microUSB cable that came with the Desire, the USB-Brick is probably due to manipulation with those type of weak cables for sure it can't help. I'll get a new one (or two). I guess my pile of 20 miniUSB is useless now...
The Odd is that it can charge upside down
yeah very rare, ive never managed to break my cable and my cable has been through a lot including using it as a belt along with holding a pair of ladders down on the top of my car

Are you serious?
This isn't exactly Sonim.
Still, how exactly is the OP's cable damaged?
P.S. I'm also pissed that my collection over way over 100 miniUSB cables seem to be all too slowly becoming redundant. Before my HTC Desire, everything was Mini, not I'm forced to carry both types around. I'm considering making some neat little converters for my other devices.
Can confirm.
The cable that came with my Desire (more wire than cable) is crap.
It broke within the first week.
Nearly no strain at all, cable break at the USB plug.
you can use a mini to micro USB convertor instead of carrying both wires around

Yes i am serious, i have been using the original HTC cable that came with the phone and an additional two official HTC cable for desire just fine. I dont have any problems with them and yes i have used them as belts and cable ties.
The only way i can see you ever damaging one of these is if you damage the end or the cable you have might have been faulty from the start or near broke.
I just tried to bend the end of mine a few times and it still seems to be working, i did a few file transfer tests and it doesnt work any slower or faster.
out of all the desires or htc phones sold with a usb mini cable your the only person to report this?
The same thing happened to shadow and my cable broke during the first month as well.

mine does too
lol
you can fix a usb brick easily and ppl if ur plugging the phone in to the front of ur computer try a different port preferably at the back
I already broke several cables. Now one on of the pins of the Desire's micro-usb connector broke.. I for sure am a bit hard on my equipment but this never happened with micro-usb. I also think it easily breaks because the cable does not fully connect with the Desire's micro-usb connector. It sticks halfway in.
Anyway, I can no longer connect via usb and with all the dents and scratches it will probably be very hard to get repaired under warranty.
Mine works fine, but my mother's stopped working without visible damage.
Mine failed too, Its fussy about charging and very rarely works for USB. I think its the microusb<->cable connection that fails because its not moulded like most cables.
I've got a cable from a blackberry now (it was lying around, ive never had a BB) which works fine for charging and USB, the moulded connector seems better and the cable is much thicker.
I'd rather the cable or connector broke than the port on the phone (which is what microusb is designed for)
I was wondering if they can be fixed?!
YOU"RE RIGHT, they're flimsy.
These
Code:

Look sturdy but break too easily. Not as cheap as most chinese made but these cables usually break in about 2 months for me. Dont even think about folding it and putting it in a bag for those frail, dying HTC phones.
I wonder if the cables are easy to fix... its copper right?
-Can anyone recommend a simple way to handle these wires or a more durable wire? I dont want to buy one every month. I'm thinking about http://www.amazon.com/Micro-Retract..._19?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1328931599&sr=1-19.

I am thinking about it. It costs about the same to just buy the micro cable. This has 30 days. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mini-5-Pin-...262914?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3f13828e82
my usb cable rubber is also starting to split at the ends. but it still works fine.
Never broke it but...
I never actually broke the cable, but I always found it very loose. When I insert the microUSB into my phone it doesn't click or anything. It just sorta lays there. It is not very stable and I am always terrified when messing around with something that requires a stable connection (alpharev, root, etc.)
Am I the only one experiencing this, or did I just get a lame cable?
USB conector
I've never had trouble with my htc cable, but I've replaced the usb port twice on one phone and once on the other. (yes I have two desire's)
I too wish it was a deeper port.
Just wondering if anyone else's usb cable is a little bit "shaky" after being plugged in? I guess it's normal since i don't have any poor contact issue so far, but ...it's kinda annoying..
Sorry if you didn't notice it before but you do now
ye my last android did that too. after using the micro usb port a few times it gets "shaky"-er haha

My Epic 4G Touch is the same exact way. However, I never had this issue with my Evo. Wonder if its an issue with the ports on Samsung phones.
I have found taking a pair of pliers and adding some slight pressure to the end of the usb cable has helped tighten things up. Make sure you are squeezing the entire connector and not using needle nose.

Its funny that you mention that because the looseness seems to be more dependent on the actual USB cable than the port itself (at least on this phone) Luckily, I haven't had any real connection problems with my phone. However, after replacing the cable, it seems to fit more snugly. Either way, its a little odd that it the same cable will seem more loose in this phone, but fit just fine in my previous one (still have it as a spare).
I've been having this problem lately also. Thinking in was a bug in the rom or a bad cable, the problem persists and its getting worse to the point it constantly will connect and disconnect repeatedly. I'm thinking its the phone because I've changed cables, usb ports and it still does it. But sometimes it will stick normally. Wierd...
If you have even tried brand new cables (since your existing ones may be worn out), then I would say that the port on the phone is likely damaged. Looks like it may be time for a service center repair.
My SR is the same way. The mini usb cocksoff to the right. I've experienced the same with a few Motos. I've came to the conclusion it is the cables themselves. I have noticed that the two teeth on the male plug get kind of wore out or not even pop back out and furthermore eventually damage the female port to where the phone will cycle from power to no power. I've especially seen this with OEM cables. I also saw a thread here where the guy gives an awesome, detailed breakdown of a screen replacement. The site he links has the replacement chip with the mini usb port if you feel froggy...
I just noticed that my charging port is extremely loose and any USB cable I stick in there has a lot of wiggle room. Because of this if I move my phone while charging it sometimes looses it's connection. I don't believe it ever did that before. Does anybody else notice a loose fit or is it just my phone?

My charging port is pretty solid. But just to avoid this scenario, I got the samsung wireless fast charger pad

Couple of things, if you have a case, try charging without it on. Otherwise try another cable. I thought mine was loose too but it ended up just being a cable that didn't fit well.
Thanks for the feedback guys. My case doesn't come into contact with the charging port or the cable when it's inserted. I use the original cable and a cheap chinese one intermittently. The Chinese one is quite long which is why I use it, but it wiggles much more than the original. I'm pretty sure there was no wiggle at all in the beginning so it must be from using the cheap cable. Note to self (and others): "Don't do that!"

Hi there, I'm having the same issue. The thing is that I don't remember if it worked well from the start.
I always use an alternative charger and keep the original in the packaging.
One day noticed that at least 1/4 part of the plug remains out of the socket. This makes the plug wiggle and remain loose. Sometimes (a Tagwood cable) disconnects by the own weight.
I don't hear the common 'click' when plugging in or out.
Tried different cables, many including the original and every does the same.
I don't know if it is a design issue or a broken thing.
What I can see, I don't find any anomalies. Neither where is bottoming. It looks very sensitive parts so I don't want to touch it.
I only noticed that socket looks shorter than other micro USB plugs.
Sorry for my English.
If there's any suggestions I want to hear it.

Samsung phones have suffered from charging port issues for years. My Note 3 drove me crazy with it. You can try contacting Samsung, but I'm not sure what they would do.

I had a Norte 3 and the plug was very strong and tighten.
Also 3.0 charged twice faster than other phones.
The phone is not buyed in my country. I can't contact Samsung
Guys, my brother had the exact same issue with his.
It ended up being lint that built up inside the port. Take a pin and clean the port out. I was shocked at how much lint (just from a normal pocket) got stuck in the port. Its definitely worth checking.
Worked for me!

At first my charging cable worked fine, but over time the connection became very touchy. Based on the post above, I opened up a paperclip and fished around the port area and was surprised by the lint that came out. Now my cable is connecting more securely and charging more reliably. Thanks for the tip!
Hello XDA, here's something that has bugged me for a while.
I think everyone has experienced the tired out micro USB cable issue. You know, when the cable won't charge your device unless held at the proper angle, or when it won't even stay inside the device and just slips out. I believe this is caused by the little hook pins on the bottom of the plug getting a little bent or worn out.
This happens to me a lot. I operate heavy equipment all day and my phone is always bouncing around while charging. I think this bends the micro USB plug and I have to replace my micro USB cables like every couple months. Sometimes more.
So my question is, is this an issue with usb-c? I've searched online a lot and can't seem to find anything on it. This issue is a big deal to me since I'm pretty rough on my cables. Is it going to be a problem? Has anyone had this issue with a usb-c cable?
Thanks a ton everyone

I would like to also ping this thread as I am wondering the same thing. My last 2 phones required me to start angling the cables so that they would charge (likely based on the wear and tear of inserting and removing the cables).
So, is the design of USB-C more, less or the same reliability as micro-USB from a port longevity perspective?
Hi guys!
I'm a fresh Pixel 2 user (and for now, I love the device), but a very strange thing occurred to me. I unboxed the phone, connected the cables to transfer the data from my old Nexus, and everything went smoothly, the cable connected easily and firmly. When I came home and wanted to connect the charger I noticed I can't push the USB-C cable in - it was getting stuck before being pushed completely, and the phone wouldn't charge. I looked closely into the charging port thinking that maybe some small debris was locked inside, but instead I've seen a crooked metal brace (closeup photo attached, the part was really small) that seemed loose and was blocking the connector to go fully inside. I didn't know what it was, but I used a toothpick to try to lock it in place or at least see if it's really loose, but upon touching it simply came out from the port and hit the floor.
The port now works flawlessly, it charges, it connects to the computer, nothing seems lose, the cable sits tight, and it looks perfectly normal to me. I checked some other USB-C devices I have if they have similar metal thing inside, but none does. The port now looks like all other USB-C ports I've seen.
I wouldn't expect anything to come out of the charging port in a new phone though. Would you have any idea what's the purpose of this metal brace in the Pixel's port, and what could've happened that it got detached from the port? Should I be worried or just throw it into the bin and forget?
I'd appreciate any clues and insights
Thanks!
M.
This looks like half of the metal usb shield inside your port. If you look deep inside there should be another half (or maybe it's fallen out). The purpose of this part is purely to reduce electrical noise at the point of the connector, so you shouldn't really see any charging issues with it out, although you may run into the occasional data transfer issue.
Thanks, that's reassuring I don't really see the second half, but everything is working smoothly so I will not be too bothered then.
Keep the part. The phone is faulty. If you don't have problems, wait until the warranty is nearly out and then RMA the phone to get a 'new' one
This exact thing just happened to my Pixel 2 phone. I hope I don't have any problems. I know this is an old post. Did it ever cause you any problems?

No, everything was fine with the phone afterwards - at least for that reason. I had to RMA it for failing display though after few months of use, so I no longer have that particular one. With the replacement the metal brace is still intact.
