Just curious if there is an app that uses the infrared camera (for the iris scanner)?
The iris scanner has a fixed focal range, you can't focus with it as the focus is fixed, so it would be pointless even if there was an app!

You can use service menu (dial *#0*#) and there is an iris camera test, gonna close after a few seconds, but you can check it out.
Yeah i checked it out and it disappears fast. It would be fun to take a selfie on total darkness, if there is a way to take pictures lol.
I'm just looking for this too. I tried it and can see things farther than 1m clearly. so it would have some fun uses if there's an app could do that.
Anyone else knows if there's a way to access the camera regardless if its pointless or not?

Did you find an app?
I am aware this is an old thread, but I'm interested in an app like that too
There is actually an app
If u check latest Steve Mould youtube video he shows how this app called Open Camera can open the IR camera. It may or may not work (he was using a Google pixel 4)
http://www.androidauthority.com/google-camera-port-raw-support-bug-fixes-803761/
i've tried the app and it's working.. still observing for some bugs etc..
It would be nice if we knew what are the best (most suitable) settings.

Is HDR+ working?
I read the port works with SnapDragon 8xx but Nokia mounts a 4xx... Did you enable camera API 2 or something more than just installing the app?

Camera api2 is enabled by default. Could not get hdr+ working with this all-in-one-version, but this one does work with zsl, if you have hdr+ auto mode on:

Thanks for the link
So, above the version you linked, ZSL and HDR+ stopped working? If we were to get all the other goodies like raw support and so on, would be just amazing!

No problem, I can get pretty stunning shots with this one. HDR+ with this apk is not oversaturated and totally usable. (I'm a professional photographer and satisfied with the result
I could not get that allinone-version to process HDR+ pics at all. Tried different modes and settings, but it just saves the non-hdr version.

Should be pretty straightforward.
1. Download the apk file from the link @CareDood shared above. https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=817550096634795524 (You can download from your phone or to your PC)
2. If you downloaded from the PC you'll need to connect your phone to the PC to send the file. When connecting the USB your phone will ask if you want to charge only or give storage access. Make sure to allow storage access. Then copy the .apk file to the internal storage, for example in the `Download` folder, as it is easy to find.
3. In your phone enable `unknown sources` (settings > in the search bar write `sources` and click in `unknown sources` > switch the toggle to enable)
4. Locate the apk on your phone (in Downloads if you place it there or using a file manager app if you put it somewhere else). Click on it and should prompt if you want to install it.
That os what i thought, but it doesen't work
When i click on the apk and try to install it says that the package conflicts with an existing package with the same name. And says not installed. Don't know what to do. I really want to try it.

Yes, that's it. Thank you so much. Slow motion doesen't work, my guess is because of the CPU

Are you on stock ROM?
Did you try to install previously any other version of the pixel camera?
I just tried my self to install another version of the pixel camera, the `all-in-one` also mentioned in this thread and then install back the working one, and doesn't complain at all... but just in case, if you have any other version of the pixel camera might be worth uninstalling...
I have the ta-1000 version of the Nokia 6, chinese, and the stock camera has different package name but maybe is not the case on yours?
Is the only thing I can think off tbh but I'm not an Android expert by any chance.... sorry I cannot help much mate
If you look to the previous page you will see that someone pointed to the solution of the problem. But thanks anyway, i appreciate your effort.

Not really. Somebody ported gcam to exynos device. Arnova atm is working on p10 I think.
Guys, make that camera app to system app and disable stock camera. Let's see if it works. I don't have root, other wise I would.
I installed the above uploaded camera apk, but, unfortunately, the app instantly closes after launch. The white camera for "loading screen" appears and after it, the app closes itself.

I am still not able to start the app. Is there something else required to do in order to make it run properly?
is there any updates here ?
The camera2.api must be enabled in order to run this app. I have MiA1 as secondary phone and its working perfectly due to snapdragon soc. And it is also working on some exynos phones.
Try to add 'persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1' in build.prop in order to test whether it is working on Honor 8.
as for what i've known, Honor 8 has its camera2.api enabled by default
Crash at start for now, after granting permissions
There is actually one gcam that is usable for Honor 8 (i just can't remember the download link but it's worse than the stock camera
Hoping someone can answer some questions for me. Thinking about buying one of these, but need to make sure of a few things.
1. Does the phone have some kind of voice wake-up? With the new Chinese voice assistant, I would assume there's some kind of voice wake-up system for that -- anyone who tried the global rom, can google assistant wake up the phone with "OK Google?" Seems like a long shot, but would love to know.
2. On the Mi Mix 2, the brightness sensor was placed right where someone using the phone left-handed's hand would be. Has this changed? I heard from someone they centered the brightness sensor for this one, but can anyone confirm?
3. I hope someone rooted can try this, but is it possible to put the phone in diag mode, connect with QPST, and make a qcn backup of the baseband? With Android O I'm no longer able to do this on Mi Mix 2. If anyone willing to try this, ask for more details if you don't know how to do it.
I'm not running an official MIUI ROM (xiaomi.eu ROM), but since the base is pretty similar my answers should still count...
1) OK Google does work, but apparently not for unlocking / wakeing the device. I guess this could be fixed with some fiddling around
2) The brightness sensor isn't dead center on the 2S either. It is around 1cm left to the middle.
3) Worked perfectly fine for me

thx for replying. your screenshot tells me that you took a picture in raw format and that this raw file was saved in the open camera folder. I suppose you used open camera to take the picture.
does the stock camera also offer the option to shoot raw files?
thx,

This thread is a starter for the GCAM devs to hopefully provide us a working GCAM for the essential phone based on the new update. As of right now, you need to be on P at a minimum.
YOU NEED TO HAVE LOGCATS FOR HELP How to LOGCAT 101
You can also use a ondevice logcat tool, like matlog. I clear matlog, start it, directly create my problem, go back to matlog, stop it, then sort by "CAM" in this case, so i can see all camera related errors, then save it.
The idea is this.... all of the major gcam devs have the OP6 or something that isn't the essential phone. If we politely tag them, and have a logcat in hand, perhaps we can get support quicker for our device.
OP6 GCAM Thread
THIS IS FOR READING PURPOSES ONLY, DO NOT SPAM THEIR THREAD WITH REQUESTS, THERE WILL BE FM ACTION IN DOING SO
here is the link for @Arnova8G2 first beta
BETA 1
Hopefully, this will help get the ball rolling. Once i get home from work, i will have logcats for slo-mo, and no-hdr later.
If anybody else wants to help, again, please be descriptive with your problem, and provide a good logcat
@Arnova8G2 and @cstark27 (even though I know your moving on)
Here are logs:
1. Slomo crash. Slomo worked on test3, as long as we patch media profile, it works in general
2. No ability to take picture with hdr off
3. Taking a picture with zoom
I know these are already issues by in large. Maybe my logs will help.
Thank you for your help

Added newest al-ro build to 3rd post.
I'm curious if you have seen/looked at this before - https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a1/themes/magisk-google-camera-telephoto-lens-t3767531 It's a mod for the Xiomi Mi A1 to be able to use the 2nd rear camera (telephoto) with Google Camera. I haven't tried it yet, kind of afraid to bootloop since it appears specific to the A1 phone. But was curious if what they've done can help get the monochrome camera working on Gcam and other apps in a similar way.
I know you (I think?) had discussed the challenges and limitations of this when asking Essential for support in an AMA in July/August in which Essential basically said "no." But wasn't sure if anything done with the A1 is different than what you've tried.

I spoke to cstark about this with the Nokia 8 ages ago and the basic idea was that if the secondary camera doesn't show up in camera identifier in the Camera2test app then there's literally no way to make this work.

Happens on my device too. It actually didn't back when using some of the first Arnova8G2's 6.1.x builds (sorry I can't remember which exact versions).
There is a *partial* solution to launching it from lockscreen - wether it is actually locked or not - by simply having the app in memory.. But that's obviously far from ideal.
Was gonna try to gather some (hopefully) helpful logs but.. :

It's really weird.
Using SystemUI Tuner, I can also confirm the very same thing happens when swiping the corresponding lockscreen shortcut.
(OT : By the way, don't know why they were originally removed since adding back phone & camera shortcuts does make the bottom messages corresponding to the targetted function : "swipe right to make a call" & "swipe left to open camera".. something like that anyways)
