Hello everyone,
>>> General explanation .. please skip to read about the real problem below if your time is limited:
I will start by saying that I am NOT a knowledgeable Android user. In fact my whole experience with android started 2 days ago when I bought a second-hand galaxy S3 phone to finally put an end to my struggle with my Blackberry.
My BB died and I was in a hurry to get another smartphone to keep track of my work-related emails while travelling. I decided to buy a used phone because i am currently travelling in Indonesia. I didn't want to buy a new phone that will get scratches the next day. I settled on the S3 as the price vs value was unmatched by any other phone. I did not check any tips or thoughts before buying the phone which was a mistake on my part and now I think i have a problem. Basically, I just want to have the stock rom provided by Samsung on my phone so I can download updates OTA. I am not interested in rooting and trying altered versions of Android as I am currently travelling and got no time to keep track of bug fixes, problems or manual updates.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Problem:
The system installed on the phone is Android 4.0.4. I wanted to update to JellyBean but when I tried to register the device for software updates, I kept getting "Processing Failed". I searched online and found several posts about the same issue explaining that the reason is mostly related to the CSC of the device (that was my introduction to the technical side of Android). Also, after further research, I found out that the system installed on my phone is Chinese while the build of the phone is Korean. I checked many posts regarding changing the CSC, rooting and unrooting, flashing to stock rom ....etc. However, after all that research, I am still confused on the right process to follow in order to revert to the original system where I can download updates OTA and I would really appreciate any type of help.
FACTS about the phone:
When I connect to Kies it shows that the device name is SHV-210k which is a Korean build. It also shows the CSC is ALFA which I couldn't find an interpretation for.

When check the "Settings" >> "About Device", I get:
Model number: GT-I9300
Android version: 4.0.4
Baseband version: Unknown
Kernal version: 3.0.15-808555-user
[email protected] #1
SMP PREMPT Tue Jul 10 20:47:55 KST

Build number: it's a link and as this is my first post I am not allowed to post links yet. You may see the link in the picture below.
.
When I dial *#1234# I get to see the Firmware Version I get:
AP: I9300ZSALF5
CP:I9300ZSALFA
CSC: I9300ZSALFA
After doing some research, I found that ZS refers to the China/Honk Kong.
.
When I dial *#9090# I get to the Service Mood. I choose: [2] Version Info >> [1] SW Version >> [3] All SW Versions. Then I get:
SW Ver : E210KKKLG3
Rf Cal Date : 20120703
Product Code:
Base SW Version : CMC221_MG10_C
.
I also tried Root Checker to see if I have root access but it says I don't.
.
I checked Sammobile for a stock rom. I entered the name of the device that Kies showed (SHV-E210K) and there is only one option for KTF mobile (a Korean service provider). The info of that option are:
Latest firmware info
SHV-E210K null
PDA: E210KKKUGML4
CSC: E210KKTTGML4
MODEM: E210KKKML3
Added: 2013-12-15
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things I need to know:
Does my phone have a problem?
Is it possible to change the name of the device that Keis shows (SHV-E210K in this case)
What is the difference between SW Version and Firmware version?
Is there a simple way to alter the phone to make it able to download updates OTA?
IMPORTANT: Is the stock rom I found on Sammobile suitable for my device? If yes, should I simply flash it back? will that get me back to the original system of my S3?
I can return/switch the phone from the store I bought it from (got 2 weeks trial period) but I got this S3 with 32GB internal memory for $260 in mint condition with no scratches whatsoever. The price is so cheap that I would rather keep it if it can be fixed safely. So, the big question is: Should I return/switch it?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FINALLY:
I thought about changing the CSC of the phone to an Indonesian one but with the phone being Korean functioning with a Chinese system, I am not sure this will get me OTA updates. I also thought about reverting to the Samsung supported Android version by flashing back to a stock rom, but, I don't know whether I should install a korean rom, a chinese rom or an Indonesian rom. As I said in the beginning, it's my first experience with android.
Please: if anybody knows the right process to follow in this case, I would appreciate a simple explanation with a basic walk-through. I can provide more information if needed so please ask away.
Thanks everyone!!!!!

I would not worry about OTA to be honest. Most of the type they end up causing issues and you have to fully wipe and then reinstall the whole OS. This is the main issue when people buy devices not meant for their area. You give up things when you do this.

Thanks for responding! After some reading, I understand that OTA is not the best way to go. However, the problem of choosing a suitable rom is still in my way. I created another post here to make my questions directly related to finding the rom that suits my device. the question has not been answered so far. I would really appreciate if you could take a look at it and maybe give me some pointers. thanks in advance!
I will delete this question later when the new one gets answered.
Hi everyone, I just received a Huawei Mate 9 lite as a gift which I'm aware it's a rebranded Honor 6x for (as far as I'm aware) Latin America. I understand that many 6x rooms work for it but have no idea how to get started since model numbers are different.
I have the 32gb/3gb ram model single sim and the model number is BL L23, I'm on marshmallow with EMUI 4.1.3 and I want to update to the official nougat release, I've seen official nougat rooms for this model but they have a different build number, does that matter?
It's a carrier-locked phone, but if it's possible to install a stock, non-carrier room on it like in other phones I have no issue with that...
TLDR version: I have a mate 9 lite and would like to upgrade to nougat, model BL L23 and build number C43B121, and no, carrier does not have update on OTA.

I found the huawei firmware finder on google play (translating the russian forum that appears on your sig) and there are quite alot of firmwares for my model, but does the build number matter? or does it only indicate the build number of the software andit shouldn't affect installtion? my build number is BLL-L23C43B121, I'm sure this is just a carrier specific version, but I want to make sure because this is the first time I own a non-flagship phone without a lot of support (like the Galaxy S2/S4, HTC One M7 and LG G3 which I've owned before).
Found a post on xda where it showed all the country codes...
The post shows that C605 is Colombia, and my phone was bought in Uruguay, I checked and Colombia uses same LTE bands, can I use a rom labeled LL-L23C605B364? or Do I have to unlock bootloader or something?

Nope you can not. Unless you flash the oeminfo file of L23C605 then only you can do this. We dont have the oeminfo file of that model yet. However if you just want to update the version, we can do via dload.
Great, how do I do that?
Update to nougat without having to change oeminfo?

Using dload. Let me check and give the links.
Yours is BLL-L23C43B121 OR BLL-L23C432B121?
There is a difference of 43 and 432.
Thanks for the quick reply, I have the update.zip from the c605 update, the big one (around 1.6gb), is that good? I didn't download the one that actually has the build number, the one specific for the c605..

Yeah, the 432 is the european international one. Mine is C43B, looking around xda I found it is specific Antel (carrier) Uruguay.

You can't. Yours is different build than this. It will fail 100% or worst case could mess badly to brick, mostly it will fail in any case.

Oh alright, so it's hopeless now? Should I wait until there's a method to update this model? I read that certain stock and custom roms fromtje honor 6x work with the mate 9 lite since it's basically the same phone...but if that's true, I don't know whichmodel of the 6x would be equivalent to mine,or if it is safe to do that...

Bumping the thread. Have you found any solution for this? I keep searching everywhere but nothing, I can unlock it and seen that I can probably root it too, but I can't rebrand it because as you mentioned there are no oeminfo files for the BLL L23. I've seen in another forum people withthe standard unlocked Mate 9 lite just updated through OTA and everything went fine but I cannot do that due to mine being a carrier-locked version.
I have the C605 update in my phone, I haven't flashed it because I was told not to since it might brick my device. Now, when I do the firmware check on Firmware finder it says "approved", should I trust that even though my firmware says C43B (not C432) and B121 (software version...?).

Samsung s10e update stuck at February 2019
I also need Android 10 and ui 2.0 update firmware for sm-970u
Can I ask for a bit of advice - I've been checking for the Android 10 update for me S10e - turns out that I haven't had any software updates at all since the 1st August 2019.
Checking the device information, even though I'm in the UK and have a UK SIM in the phone, the Service provider SW ver. is XEU/XEU,ITV/ITV - so Italy...
I'm aware that I can potentially manually update the firmware - but is there a way to ensure I get updates pushed to the phone given my set-up... would a manual flash fix this?

Maybe? If you flash the XEU(UK) firmware and keep using the UK SIM it should get updates. At the very least, youll be on December update.

Thanks @pahick - I ended up flashing using the XEU firmware. It was a little complex as I had to use VirtualBox on a Mac, but all went perfectly. Happily running Android 10 now
Will be curious to see if I get future OTA updates pushed to the phone now. Otherwise it'll be the VirtualBox route for me!
I'm curious to know, is there a subscription/notification service anywhere that will tell you there is a new firmware available for your device/region? Obviously I can keep trying on the phone, but I believe Samsung are doing monthly updates for the s10 series?
Finally... Do you think it's worth trying to manually set my CSC to XEU instead of ITV....?

I do not know of any subscription service sorry. Once again, sorry I do not know of changing CSC would help. I was hoping flashing the XEU firmware would change SW ver. Does it still show XEU/XEU,ITV/ITV? If so I am not sure. Sorry I could not be of more help.
Keep checking https://samfrew.com/model/SM-G970F/region/XEU/ as a few countries have already updated to January. Should not be long before you get an update. If you dont, just manually update when it comes out. Good luck.
PS...UK H3G has January update already. https://samfrew.com/model/SM-G970F/region/H3G/
You can check individual countries/regions here https://samfrew.com/model/SM-G970F/
No need to apologize - I really appreciate the advice and pointers. As it happens my update indicates that I have the 'Security patch level: 1 January 2020' - so may have got that with the update too.
Yes - it does still show XEU/XEU,ITV/ITV - but I'll just keep checking the samfrew.com URLs periodically, and checking for updates directly on the phone to see if it magically does do an OTA update at some point.
As an aside - there was a video guide on YouTube that was a nice reassuring reference for the update process (can't post as I haven't posted 10+ times on the boards!). Interestingly he states the CSC/Region isn't all that important as all tend to be present in the updates downloaded via Frija.
I'm happy though - thanks again for the advice, and hopefully this conversation helps future folks in a similar situation. I'm off to tinker some more with One UI 2.0!
For any who are interested, I can confirm that I'm now getting OTA updates, having just received the February security patch today, so I'm a very happy man!
As a side note, for anyone on MacOS, installing the new firmware via a Windows VM wasn't too complicated at all, and completely free.
Microsoft offer free Windows 10 VMs for browser testing, and they remain active for 90 days (or indefinitely if you do a restore point at a good time). Set one of these up and you can install the Samsung USB drivers, install Frija (with the required C++ packages), then Odin, and you're all good to go.
I hope this helps someone in the future. Many thanks for the advice/assistance on the forum.
I have a N20 Ultra locked with TMobile in the USA. The phone came stock with Android 10 and OneUI 2.5.
I desperately want to go back to A10 and UI 2.5. If I do a factory reset without restoring a backup from samsung/google will the phone revert itself? Or will it simply still be on Android 11?
I can't unlock the phone and am looking for a non-root answer.
previously on my Note 9 (locked with Verizon) I was able to successfully figure out a way to block all OTA updates after weeks of research but in this case the OTA update was done automatically.
thank you
the phone will still be ANDROID 11 even if you factory reset it. I just downgraded mine back to A10 using this link below.

Yay! Samsung takes a month or more to update the Good Lock series after a OS release.
Blame Google and their insane Apple idolization for the trashware that is 11. I don't have any love for Q but was hoping Google fix some of their fails with 11.
Maybe they've gone full blown MS nuts. MS has 3 boned OS releases in a row now. Last good OS was W7x64... but XPx64 was better.
Regardless no matter how good an OS is, I never update if I have a fast, stable OS that I like. If the new OS release is doing well in 6 months then maybe.
Google's motto; it ain't broke, let's fix it anyway.

Well, I DO really believe in updates (and also in UI customization! )so if there will be a full support for GoodLock, I'll upgrade to A11 (maybe in February).
Besides that you are fully right, I am still wondering why a simple operation like opening the file explorer takes many seconds on W10 and was like an instant thing on XP.... This drives me nuts in my daily work since my employers W10 central upgrade.

Google is making the same MS mistake; wow we have really fast hardware now let's milk some extra cpu cycles out of it... no one will notice.
XPx64 was MS's best, a full load took up 576 mb of ram. Oddly MS never tried to really sell it and went on to the abortion know as Vista (same load on a 32 bit system was over 200 mb larger, wtf?).
I'll probably be running W7x64 for a very long time... even it's interface isn't as usable as XPx64 though.
Silver lining; a lot of great corporate used Dell laptop's out their at cheap prices in great condition. Got a e6400 3 years ago for $130 added some ram, 2 hdds, and eventually had to replaced the batteries. Good looking/running 3 tb laptop for $450 total.

It's identified in the firmware number. Got to Settings - About Phone -Software Information and look at the Baseband version or Build number. To find out your bootloader version.
An example, this particular firmware version is bootloader 1 as noted by the (1) just before the build identifier. N986BXXU1ATH3
N=Note
986U or F etc, the model of device
SQ, FX etc = CPU and model specific
U,S,E = Update, Security, Engineering, respectively
1,2,3,4,5 etc = bootloader revision (This is important! You cannot go to a previous revision)
A,B,C,D = Android version
T, U = Year (T=2020, U=2021 etc)
A,B,C etc = month (January A - December L)
1 - 9 and then A - Z =build compilation. This basically means how many builds there are in a month. They start at 1 and go to Z
More details on how to read build numbers is located here in @kangi26 post...

It's identified in the firmware number. Got to Settings - About Phone -Software Information and look at the Baseband version or Build number. To find out your bootloader version.
An example, this particular firmware version is bootloader 1 as noted by the (1) just before the build identifier. N986BXXU1ATH3
N=Note
986U or F etc, the model of device
SQ, FX etc = CPU and model specific
U,S,E = Update, Security, Engineering, respectively
1,2,3,4,5 etc = bootloader revision (This is important! You cannot go to a previous revision)
A,B,C,D = Android version
T, U = Year (T=2020, U=2021 etc)
A,B,C etc = month (January A - December L)
1 - 9 and then A - Z =build compilation. This basically means how many builds there are in a month. They start at 1 and go to Z

No you can't as stated several times in this thread you cannot downgrade grade bit number's
Hi All
I have just purchased a Find X2 Pro unlocked from a store as a used return, it has come unlocked from no carrier but says CPW (which i assume stands for carphone warehouse?
This isn't the main issue for me but what is is the fact the phone refuses to update at all
I have tried various VPN's on different regions and still no luck, OPPO's UK website doesn't even think the find x2 pro exists on their support page so i can't manually download firmware to flash it, the recovery updater also has no luck. I've also tried doing the region swap tool i saw on another thread but had no luck setting it up as my ethernet adapter doesn't have a "network address tab"
At the end of the day, i cannot find a single way to update this phone, has anyone else faced this issue or know another potential way to fix it? If not then the phone is being returned ASAP since this isn't acceptable from OPPO
Thanks for any potential help
EDIT: I have managed to get into the engineer mode to change the software region, even after changing it to EUEX i cannot get any updates with various VPN's

The build they sent me was a March 2020 Android 11 build which has now allowed me to update and now running C75 however i did change the branch to EUEX as stated in my post so no longer running the CPW build. Didn't even require a VPN (in UK)
File on MEGA
mega.nz
Thanks, unfortunately I'm stuck on C.70 from August. So I don't think I could install your file on my phone.
How did you contact Oppo to obtain this file ? I contacted the support on global site to request an update, but they said to wait for OTA to come.

I contacted the UK site (since im in UK) via live chat, they asked for the software build and IMEI and told me they would send me a link via email within a few days (came next day)
Thanks for this. I contacted Oppo about my X2 Pro, the link they sent me kept saying installation failed. Your download worked straight away and am now on the January security patch. I have not changed region or anything else. Thanks again for posting download.
Hi @TheDXDan, I have exactly the same problem, bought a Find X2 Pro with the same CPW_11_A_26 version you were showing in the photo above.
Would you please be able to share again the firmware you used? I tried the link you provided above on 'mega.nz' but the file is no longer available there.
I also spoke to Oppo support, they pointed me to a download called "CPH2023EU_11_OTA_17501380_all_MWTyBnliH0nz.ozip" but that did not work, a couple of seconds after I start the update it says 'Installation Failed'
I wonder if changing the software region to EUEX, as you did, is essential for this firmware update to work? @Jonah72 , did you have to change to EUEX?
Many thanks for any help with this.

This link worked for me, thank you @Jonah72!!! And I did not have to change software region for it to update.
With this firmware file it updated from the old Android10/Coloros7.1/rev 26 that the phone came with, to Android 11 rev. 65 [at least I think it was 65]. After that the phone was able to do further OTA updates, it found/installed several updates quite quickly, I think about three of those got it all the way to Android 12 with a security patch from May 2022, which it now says [quite plausibly] is latest. Previously the silly thing was saying that the Android 10/Coloros 7.1 it had from 2020 was 'latest'.
So I am very happy with this. I have to say, I don't notice a massive difference in use between the old Android10/7.1 and this latest Android12, but there are some slight improvements (for example, with the old firmware screen rotation was unreliable on this phone, it seems better/fixed now). The camera app has some improved configurability. There probably are some more subtle new features in Android 12 vs Android 10, that I just didn't notice with my rather basic use of the phone.
Anyways - thanks again. Without your help I was probably going to remain stuck on the old firmware for eternity, since Oppo UK support have been totally useless in solving this, despite my wasting a lot of time chasing them.

How you got updated to 12 , and after how much time after downloading thia firmware you got the update?
For mine after suffering 2 week i found your comment and i update using this firmware but i found some problem with camera software and i need to update to color os 12.
And which is your country so i can use vpn to receive ota update
Hi @Coagulation
After flashing the update to Android10/Coloros7.1/rev 26 I got the OTA updates to Android 12 within the next hour.
I am in the UK.
I guess what OTA updates are available at any time depends on OPPO and maybe also on your mobile phone operator.
