I have an APC390R RTD1295 HDMI-In Industrial PC, (Geniatech) – Android Embedded ARM. Specific information can be found by going to geniatech's webpage and searching for APC390r. Sorry, I cannot post the direct url.
Does anyone have experience installing a custom Android image onto these devices? I purchased this from a company that is going out of business and they have quite a few of these.
They already have software installed, but the image is customized for a senior living community and you cannot even get to the normal settings screen.
We want to install a clean install of Android (or Android TV specifically). Does anyone know how to even drop to the bootloader on these devices to be able to install a clean image? We purchased quite a few of these to be able to use on all of the TVs in our home and family members home, and need a clean install so we can install other apps, specifically Plex and Kodi.

I originally posted this question in the Android general forum but I didn't get any traction so I'm posting here in the hopes of finding some folks in the community with ideas for this project. I work for a not-for-profit children's hospital. The idea is to create a patient entertainment system (think the LodgeNET style systems in hotel rooms) using less expensive and more open hardware/software. We've purchased a few Android based set top boxes such as the EnjoyTV (I'd post the link but it won't let me) and have managed to get them configured the way we want.
The situation we're struggling with now is managing 200+ of these boxes out in the field. I have a few ideas but no one here really with the Android experience to bounce them off of.
Some thoughts:
- We would like to be able to completely reset the device to 'factory' defaults when patients leave rather than worry about locking down the devices too much.
- We would need the defaults to be our configuration, specific applications installed and perhaps even some hospital branding involved.
- I know I can reconfigure the ADB daemon on the device to listen on the ethernet port as opposed to USB.
- In doing so there is no security but I can handle security in the network layer using ACLs etc.
- I should then be able to use remote ADB commands to reset the device which I can script but what will get reset? Will my cusotmizations/apps go away? Will I have to compile a custom ROM?
- Is there a better direction to go in entirely?
Any help or even just a jab in the right directly would be GREATLY appreciated, both by myself and the kids who will benefit while they're here.

Ideally you might want to get Device admin rights and then reset it from remote easily.

For the first time ever i have not been able to find what I'm looking for and so I send out a plea for help (or lay out a challenge if people prefer them) !!
I have a lenovo yoga 13 and can run a live version of android 4.2 however i do not want to complete a hard drive install due to the lack of support for the wifi and BT.
I was wandering if anyone would be able to create a yoga 13 ROM including the driver for the realtek RTL8723a wifi/bt chip.
This has been working on Ubuntu elsewhere.
My knowledge does not extend passed installing ROMs so the process to learn this is beyond my grasp. I am happy to donate to developers should this help!!

I have managed to install the relevant version of android and touchscreen etc works brilliantly, i just need the ability to connect to the internet.
I guess there are two options and some advise would be great:
1 - could i use a usb wifi adaptor that would be supported by Android rather than the built in realtex card.
2 - where should i begin to look or research if i wanted to learn how to modify the install in order to include the correct kernal or support for this version (I am assuming using the working ubuntu drivers in some way). Any recommended reference materials to get me started. I appreciate this option may require quite some time to fully understand android development.

my question might is weird but i was always wondering why android ROMS are always just made for specific devices.
As known from the Personal Computers you just get an installation media like DVD or USB Drive packed with the OS and all the driver the computer might have. the installation routine just figures out the the device needs and installs acordingly.
why this is not possible for the ARM-devices to install android OS like this? or is there already projects who invented? i think almost everybody (especially those who owns a not anymore supported device by the manufacturer) would appreciate if he/she could upgrade by using an autonomous installer.
I am not a hardware architecture nerd thats why i would appreciate and kindly ask for an easy to understand explanation
Picked up one these tablets its a commercial built android tablet running KitKat 4.4, this has a bespoke install specifically for retail management in the form of integrated MokiManage software. While the software can be turned off and your left with a big standard Android tablet (seriously the onscreen keyboard is massive), i would though rather have a standard android install than one with features enabled & disabled according to the manufacturer requirements.
It is possible to access the recovery to implement an update but;
1. Would it be possible to replace the bespoke install with a standard KitKat ROM?
2. Its brand new & built to withstand Saturday morning kids playing whack a mole on it, would YOU risk bricking it?

I really doubt you can do much with it though. You would need to have something created for your specific device, and I can't find anything.

I build custom automotive interiors and have in the past 5 years integrated dozens of android and ios systems into cars. I'm trying to figure out a way to skip all the fabrication of dash bezels by directly integrating into the existing factory lcd touch screens.
I would like to use the existing touch screen in my Ford Edge to interface with an android tablet.
Ideally I'd like to take an existing tablet or phone that I own (Galaxy tab 2 10.1 or Galaxy s4 phone) and send the touch and video information to my stock Ford Screen
CarPerformance .se has a kit that includes an android system with a board that switches the source being sent to the screen with the push of a button allowing you to switch between the Ford information screen, android computer with touchsceen interfacing and video inputs
