Defintive solution to use desktop mode Android q with one plus 6 - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

Hi to all,
i think i'm studying far from last month the best solution to use desktop mode or another practice to connect my one plus 6 to an external monitor or device. I need to go out and works tih my customers logging with my phone and use it as a laptop. I'd like to create a thred to list all the chances for our phone!
I find three alternatives:
1) miracast with chromecast. I don't like it, cause i want a really to android pure experience also on desktop
2) external monitor like Samusng Dex. Someones had succeded to connect oneplus 6 with Dex or lenovo portable monitor???
3) The solution that i explored too much is connect my phone to an hdmi or DP adapter. All you know that our onesplus 6 have a usbC-2 that don't support diplay port. Reading on the web, on some XDa topics and around the web maybe we have a good solution. We have to find a way to connect our usbc-2 to a usbc-3 adpter with dp and then to hdmi. Is this correct? Anyone tried it? Which cables have you used?
I.E: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GF3YV7V?tag=viglink1635526-xda-20 wtih this cable what i need in this case i usb c to a adapter?
If someone of you had find a solution, please talk about the refresh rate. I don't want to play games, i need a definitive solution for productivity.
I'm writing from italy and actually didn't have the update to android 10. I'm expecting it, have you some news about?
Bye

I'm in the same situation, currently im looking for solutions,,, surely if I find one I'll post an update here.

[Q] ICS usb host webcam

Hey guys, after several minutes of googling, I can't seem to find a conclusive answer to this question: does Ice Cream Sandwich support USB webcams?
My classmates and I are trying to write an app that uses computer vision, which would require a camera. I recently (yesterday) ordered a cheap ICS tablet without a back-facing camera, so I would like to know if ICS's usb hosting support includes drivers for webcams. If not, I *might* cancel my order. Thanks in advance for the help!
Hi,
I've also bought an entry level tablet without rear cam, so I'm also really interested to know if it's possible or not.
Perhaps something can be done in USB Host mode, I'll check if my ICS tablet support this host mode.
To follow.

Working! ICS 4.0.3 on my dell d430 laptop

Hi everyone,
just wanted to make a quick post, mainly to share my excitement.
after wondering over to the android-x86 project page and having a bit of a read i thought i would give it a go on my little dell laptop. for those not familiar with the project they have developed techniques and files for installing android os on x86 laptop and computers.
anyway, it works perfectly. well 99% perfectly. mouse pad scroll doesn't work yet, for me, its only been a day, i may be able to work it out yet. maybe.
tested and working on this laptop are:
wifi
keyboard
mouse pad (excluding scrolling)
battery icon shows battery drain and charging icon
(its a basic laptop, that's almost the entire list of features haha)
not working so far:
mouse pad scrolling
Not tested:
bluetooth
external data storage (usb hdd/sd card etc)
usb accessories (keyboard/mouse/cd drive etc)
display output (this laptop has vga output)
physical network connection via cable
phone line connection (does anyone use these anymore???)
firewire
headphone and mic ports
Apps used so far:
Dolphin HD
Stock browser
google maps
gmail
zeam launcher
panda laucher
The play store does not work for downloading apps. you can log in and view installed and previously downloaded apps, manage your account etc but you will get an error with downloading. ( for those concerned the errors encountered include 921 and 101 so far)
all widgets tried so far are working too and live wallpapers...not sure why they wouldnt work...but they do anyway.
I had always joked about my little laptop having the same specs as a mobile phone, so I think its pretty funny it now has a mobile OS running.
I have it currently configured to dual boot alongside windows 7 and both are getting along nicely on the same laptop.
anyone else on the forums here played with this? I did search around but didn't find much relating to android on laptops and my dell d430 wasn't listed in the device section haha.
if anyone can suggest a more appropriate place for this post i would be happy to repost somewhere else.
please also feel free to post questions including but not limited to the standard "why would you want to do this!?" and "what's the point?"
conclusion:
i may just use this as a daily os....all i ever used this laptop for was backpack sized internet access and media entertainment and it does that much easier on android now.
Another thing I loved was that when installing windows (a one million hour affair typically) you then had to install acres of drivers (the technical measurement of the amount of drivers required to get everything working on windows), HOWEVER on android, everything worked out of the box so to speak. wifi and all.
if this catches on and gains a decent level of tech support for those less capable this could be a great opportunity to keep everyone's ageing tech in the game.
Niceeeeeee, i give it a try
I'm using a Acer laptop with this version and I don't have any problem with the Play Store...

android on acer aspire 5315
Hey Junior Member,
I have also an acer 5315 and would also like to instaal android on it.
Which iso file did you used for the pc (I mean Asus, Lenovo, Hp).
Can you also give me some hints on how to create the boot disc and how to get in the boot mode and what to do next.
first thing i thought was man, you're gonna need to edit a word doc or something and be screwed. but i see your dual booting so i guess it makes sense. whats the boot up time like?

For me boot time is unDer 20 seconds into windoes and under 15 into android, but I've got a SSD hd and made a few tweaks to the bios.
As far as usability goes, androids definitely a touch orientated OS so it's a bit cumbersome with the touchpad ... I did however spot a touch panel for the screen for cheap on eBay....

yeah i guess there's not as much difference these days between boot times when using ssd. Got one myself recently and its definitely the best upgrade you can do right now.

[BUILD][03-Sep-2016][SP2] Android-x86 / Remix OS

Hi Devs!
I'm wondering why not more people here working to get android lollipop working on our beloved tablets
I started to read a little bit into the topic and found quick easy solutions on the web to get ordenary android-x86 images boot very well.
Draco wrote an How-To that is easy and works also perfect with the Surface-Pro
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/android-x86/D85Jq02cLrE
I modified the UEFI files to work better with a out of the box intallation of the Surface and put it together with Android 5.0.2 test builds.
Collect everything I've uploaded in a Folder:
https://drive.google.com/folderview...V3VU0wYV9MY2VVVkY2eGJPT0EyTkQ4WnM&usp=sharing

How-To
Here to download a Testbuild for Android 5.0.2 from Google Groups from rgb
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/android-x86/3xClAbl5D_w
Info:
If an microSD card is inserted the boot process will fail, because the microSD replaces the SSD to be the hd0 device.
Solution: change the grub.cfg entry from hd0 to hd1 and also do the mod in the loopback cfg
[EDIT]: sinc latest UEFI Firmware update, booting from microSD isn't working anymore
gapps can be used from any place, just copy the contens of the .zip file to there correct places.
atm I use a small gapps package from paranoidandroid (PA)
http://d-h.st/o72
WiFi: (not required any more on available builds)
I compiled a build on my Ubuntu intallation and extract the files for you, hope copy the files works also on the downloadable iso.
Please give me feedback if the files are working for you.
usb8797_uapsta.bin replaced in /lib/firmware/mrvl/
mrvl folder replaced in /lib/modules/3.10.58-android-x86+/kernel/drivers/net/wireless
Touch/Type Cover 2: (not required any more on available builds)
hid folder replaced in /lib/modules/3.10.58-android-x86+/kernel/drivers/

I'm sorry for that, if you have time, can you also test a available Android 4.4.4 installation if olso there touchscreen is not working?
I correct the title and update the OP that everyone sees that on SP3 ther are more problems.
Touchscreen is working on SP2 but Type Cover 2 did not so I also need an external USB keyboard for analysing things in console (ALT+F1)

Haha, I understand you, but I have to mention that I'm a noob.
As far as I understand, creating/porting the drivers/firmware/kernel modules for the surface rt will be much more difficult than starting from an existing project like android-x86.
At the moment I split my SSD into more partitiones, installed the third OS (Ubuntu 14.10), get the complete code from git repository and try to set up the build environment to learn more about things are working together.
Also on Ubuntu the WIFI (USB version of MARVELL 88W8797) wont work out of the box but after replacing the firmware from git.marvell.com I get it up working.
Unfortunately this is not working on Android that easy.
The kernel modul for WIFI is loaded (mwifiex.ko) but no additional network interface is showing (mlan0 should be created)

Haha, so glad I found this thread. First things first, is your avatar a paragliding or skydiving canopy? If so, end cells look fantastic and very nice acrobatics with your leg straight up...how did you manage that?
I spent all evening and well into the morning finally getting 4.4-r2 running successfully on my SP2 using Draco's guide. Very nice work there from him.
It's unbelievable how smooth the Android experience is natively. When people recommend the emulators they just don't understand until they experience it themselves.
I have the Type Cover 1, and it's fully functional, but bluetooth and WiFi do not work. I have an Edimax EW-7811Un which does work, but the internet speeds are unusable; it maxes out at .25 Mbps. Is there something I need to do or is there another WiFi dongle which works better? Which one do you use?
Do you know of any combo WiFi/BT dongles that work?
If I can solve the WiFi issue (don't really care about having a small dongle plugged in for android), I will be one happy camper.
One more question: I read the 4.4-r1 had some drivers or something that 4.4-r2 didn't. However, I couldn't get it to boot from USB (it would hang on the android screen). With that said, I just replaced the files within the 4.4-r2 files with the 4.4-r1 on the USB. Do I have to rebuild the thumb drive or can I just replace files?
I will try the Lollipop build later. Good to find someone else doing this! Too bad we're both newbs lol.

Thats a paragliding canopy, and what you can see is the basic you have to manage when you want to fly acrobatic style.
Its a full stall where the canopy is not flying forward any more an the pilot is falling backwards untill the body stabilized under the backflying canopy
At the moment I use a USB2.0 HUB to connect the USB-Drive and the WLAN Stick at the same time. because after the last firmware Upgrade of my SP2 the Tablet do not boot any more from the microSD card. ?!?
The WLAN Stick is a original Samsung WIS12ABGNX for my Samsung TV/BD Player I used to test what can be done with them.
on Win8.1 I got a Speed of approx. 8-9MByte/sec (internal Marvell Wifi)
on Android 5.0.2 I got 4-5MByte/sec (external Samsung Wifi)
on Sony Xperia Z2 5.0.2 (unofficial) I got 2-3MByte/sec (internal ... Wifi)
when copy a file between my NAS (100MBit Network LAN structure)
so there is room for improvement, but first I really like to get more familiar with building Android from source by my self and try to get the internal Wifi working.
Also on Ubuntu 14.10 WiFi is working but not very stable but it does. (with including the firmware from git.marvell.com)

I'd rather get a small nano USB WiFi dongle and "set it and forget it." I don't want to have to carry around the SP2 and my phone with a USB cable just to use the internet.

Ya, the image was blurry, I was pretty sure that was a paragliding wing. I was a competitive high-performance canopy pilot (swooper) but have been out of the sport for a number of years. Some of the canopies now have radically different designs and the different wings between skydiving/paragliding/etc are merging now to make some cool stuff. Made a few paragliding flights, but never got into it.

You were able to boot android directly from a microSD and keep the SSD untouched (didn't even think of that)? Did the upgrade affect the partitions at all? Maybe the set root=(hd0,gpt#) and root=/dev/sda# changed, but I'm sure you already looked at that.

Ok, I just want to make sure we're on the same page here. So on Android you were getting 5 MBps (40 Mbps)? That's super fast, unless you meant 5 Mbits, which is still faster than what I'm getting. Right now, I'm getting 0.25 Mbps (0.03125 MBps) which is unusable. I have another WiFi dongle arriving today, so maybe that will help. If it doesn't, why am I getting such slow speeds?

Hi!
I did a 2nd x-check
Defenetly can receiver a 260MB file Form my NAS with ~3,2 Megabyte (~2min) per second and transmit the same file with ~4,5 Megabyte per second back to my NAS with the external Samsung USB WiFi stick
I would say its also possible to installiert Android to the microSD on a EXT4 partition and boot it via Grub.
Yes its all about the (hd0,gpt2) and /dev/sda2 or similar.
Just try it and if the numbers are not correct Boot into Grub and adapt the setting by pressing "e" and thest the setting with "F10"
Well I just tried the TP-Link TL-WN725N and it did not work at all.
Tried within 4.4-r1 that's installed to SP2's SSD and Lollipop booting from USB. WiFi just hangs at turning on and doesn't recognize the dongle.
Why am I getting such slow speeds on the other dongle? And do you know of any specific nano WiFi dongles that work well for this application? I tried searching on Google and in the Android-x86 group but came up empty.
I just want WiFi!!!! :crying:

Anyone having the latest pro version of mi tv with Android 8.1?
A very useful tool which shows all the required information for identifying the correct firmware in case of something went wrong with the OS. So, keep in mind to place the screenshot of it somewhere safe. The app shows the detail of your display panel id, rom version, platform id...... All this is data is required before flashing a new rom as MiTv has so many many variant like MiTv 4a 49" has more than 4 variant, like wise for MiTv 4 55". So, on every model has some different variance, all because of having different display panels and for other reasons. Some display panel will be from LG or Samsung and two other brand from Chinese manufacturer.
Mi TV is a better option for limited budget. You will get more features for less budget.
If someone could share the rom and recovery dump file from the Mi Pro android 8.1 series, it will be a great help for the other previous Mi Tv users in porting the rom. Or at least share what you find for MiTv like rooting, custom recovery or anything for others.
Btw i found a way to root MiTv but its a long process and it needs UART device. And also to block the adds by using adb without root.
Again, so many MiTv owner pass by looking for some development for our Tv but find nothing mainly because no one is interested in so little interacted thread and not able to start any developments (at least in my view). Start sharing your experience, may be starting with your best optimal display setting.

First you need a UART device and then open the tv back panel and you have to make a connection at the diagnostic port on the motherboard directly.
If you are ready for this steps, prepare for the next move and let me know.

I do have the 43" global with build in Chromecast. Works nice and pic is also very good. No way to install Netflix for android tv and I cannot cast Netflix from my phone to the tv.. Everything else is castable.
Honestly I do have 43 inch 4A model. But the only concern here is do we need custom rom for this TV? I mean we already have one of the best stock firmware. Also, there is a way to sideload app from usb and once you install aptoide store then you can directly download apps from it. I have good amount of apps installed for me but few of them need mouse like Netflix and Amazon prime. Some of them need google play services so they do get installed but when you try go ahead they ask for play services. Also, regarding the UART port, opening the back panel will surely void the warranty, are people willing to go ahead with that?
I'm fond of mods and custom roms but here it is bit complicated as a TV is not a personal device which is used by only one person like a smartphone. I heard we will get the oreo update soon does any1 knows when it's scheduled?

Honestly I do have 43 inch 4A model. But the only concern here is do we need custom rom for this TV? I mean we already have one of the best stock firmware. Also, there is a way to sideload app from usb and once you install aptoide store then you can directly download apps from it. Dear Friend,
I'm not concerned about custom ROMS here. But I want to enhance possible supported features in product not given by Mi.
I have Mitv 4a, and it doesn't support bluetooth speaker, while there is bluetooth in hardware. So by rooting and patching some firmware to make it working is my concern.
Another thing is, As phoneix rom and older Remix os were having support to replicate touch with Keyboard and mouse. If one can mimic that feature in patch ui firmaware than our MiTV will be more amazing:fingers-crossed:
I used to do same with Octopus app but its annoying for many apps.
Most important feature for me is supporting external sd card as internal storage. Which would not be possible without rooting MiTV.
What do you and others say about these?
I understand that you want to make optimum use of the hardware and explore all the possibilities. I personally feel it's a step we must take provided we have the source code and stock firmware readily available. Also, I have bought a wireless mouse and keyboard combo from Flipkart and it works like a charm. Regarding external hard drive support as internal, I feel the current version of android on MI TV 4A doesn't supports it natively. We should wait for the Oreo update and then should work towards it. Though my wife will kill me for messing up with the TV, I'm all in brother. It's just if anything goes wrong we should be able to put our **** together again

First you need a UART device and then open the tv back panel and you have to make a connection at the diagnostic port on the motherboard directly.
If you are ready for this steps, prepare for the next move and let me know.

MTK MT5886 - Root? - Nougat (7.0)

Hi All -
I'm trying to find resources/threads/&docs on anything relating to the MT58XX platform and I'm coming up short. Everything seems to be phone only and/or MT6xxx related. Even our good Russian friends and Polski's don't seem to have many reads other than "NO" for the MT5886.
Being that the device is running Nougat, I'm curious on peoples thoughts as to whether there would be any (semi) safe give-it-a-try methods on getting root & a shell on this device. The device itself is running the mfr's own UI (w/ Apdroid and no standard Android menus/options/settings). I can install APK's as-is, so I know I can at least install unknown sources, heck, for all I know the TV might already have root enabled.
I haven't had much time to play with it yet, but I do know that when trying to connect USB to a PC that's a nogo right now. The PC just see's it as a device that wants power, and the TV treats it as our bog-standard USB input. Anyway, I'll try to sideload a shell and do some more proper digging in the coming days, but wanted to ask and see if anyone had input regardless.
Cheers
