It streams video in 4k very well best way is to stick 4k video on local drive. It is also technically possible to stream 4k games which was actually possible before (in beta form.) You cannot change the UI to work natively in 4k from settings.

Change the UI to 4K in the Developer Option

[Q] HDMI Connection only 720P. Any idea how to change it to 1080P?

Hi,
I am owner of a Sony Xperia Tablet S with a docking station(using to connect to a TV through HDMI cabel). When I connect the tablet to my TV(Samsung 1080P) It is only recognized as 720P device. That's probably OK, but when I play 1080P movie It should change to 1080P video resolution but it doesn't happen. I tried to search for a HDMI output setting in the tablet but there is no such thing, I also tried several video players, even to play exact resolution size video - 1920x1080 no change... still only 720P. And to be honest 720P doesn't look very brilliant from this tablet. I hoped to use the tablet as some kind of "all round video player".
Is there any way that I can convince the tablet to play videos in 1080P/Full HD? Any idea how to resize HDMI output resolution?
I know that it is mirroring my device, but even though it should automatically resize when playing full HD movies. (Saw it on couple of videos, where it does really work. The TV shows 1080P videos and the devices screen stays black, I guess because of their lower resolution, but that's OK.)

I guess, your tablet only supports 720p output via HDMI.. It may be your TV only allowing 720p for HDMI output. Check your TV settings...
Hope this helps!

My TV is 1080P I am 100% sure . The TV finds by itself that it is 720P and I cannot change it anywhere in the TV menu(or in tablet). It seems that the tablet sends only 720P - which is OK, but when playing movies it should change to 1080P. The tablet itself should also support 1080P. If I could only get to service menu - there are the settings and I could change the output resolution.
Even though it doesn't seem all newer sony smartphones/tablets should support 1080P. In the service menu it is just matter of few clicks to change the resolution. I don't have permission to send links here, so type on youtube: Sony Xperia S - HDMI - Playstation 3 Controller

Well, nearly all TV's support 1080p (4k is next ) So I guess its the Sony software limiting it. Your specs can easily output 1080p. Although the software may be limiting it, try converting the video files to 1080p resolution and give that a shot. Also I have watched a demo of the xperia s tablet in HDMI mode and some parts on the TV screen are cut, so I'm guessing it ONLY supports 720p (unfourtanatly)

I already tried to play 1080P movie with exact resolution no luck... The TV/Tablet hardware are capable of it, even android as software, but sony gave no option to change the resolution anually, which most manufactures don't, but they change to 1080P when playing 1080P stuff.
Only thing that is cut is the bottom navigation bar(I'm not sure how you call it.), but that's ok because the tablet is 16:10 and the TV is 16:9 so It just cuts off the black bar with navigation buttons from bottom. Otherwise it shows 100% from the screen.
As far as I know service menu would help to change it(easiest way), or some kind of app that can change HDMI output resolution? Or app that can change the resolution of the tablet itself, than I guess would the TV recognize the device as 1080P. Any idea?

Well, if you want to mimic the 1080p output, then a program that uses root may be required. However, Im not sure if there is such app..
Your tablet doesnt probably have 1080p stream output capacity. Maybe you could plug it to a device with an upscaler

I don't want just upscale the resolution. It won't make image any beter. As I know Tegra 3 does support 1080P, android as software too... so I can't see why it doesn't want to work? My girlfriend has also a Tegra 3 tablet(ASUS) and far as I know when she is playing 1080P it is a real 1080P on the TV and the screen(on the tablet is 720P) just stays black, I mean control buttons and everything is there, just the area where should the movie play on the tablet is black.
It seems I will have to root the tablet omg... Does anybody have an idea if there actually is an app like that? That can send it as 1080P output resolution? I tried to find service menu...no luck... if I could get there, like on the phone it would be just matter of few clicks and 30seconds of work...

[Q] improve youtube quality videos

1st of all i must say sorry if there is another post about this but, is there a way to improve youtube video quality on our XL?????
the best quality im getting on youtube is 360p... our phone can play 720p videos without problems or lags but youtube only gets up to 360p
my phone is full stock device and bootloader is locked
you need to have root access
2 ways to improve quality:
1- With a modded youtube app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529715
cons: old version of youtube
pro: have many extra options like playing in background etc etc
2 - fake resolution: you can use xposed with "app settings" ,module to set the youtube app working with a higher resolution with lower dpi, this will enable 720p in the app

4K Dislpay?

Hey I wanna know that Sony's doing the same thing like they did with Z5 Premium?
Like this is 1080p by default but only when you open in gallery and maybe amazon prime video app triggers the 4K?
I remember Erika Griffin mentioned that you can change the resolution but another YouTuber said it's 1080p by default.
Erica's video (Watch at 3m4s)
Mathew's video (Watch at 2m17s)
I think you can toggle it manually, pretty sure I've understood that and it only makes sense.
Not that you should want it to run in 4k all day but for vr or something and actual 4k content.

My understanding that the default to 1080P is a Android N default to save battery life, you can set it to 4K under display in system settings

You can change the resolution in the settings menu and if you choose 4K, all the contents will be shown in 4K, same thing with 1080P and 2K.

Are you sure these guys even checked? Kinda sucks if it doesn't. I mean its something that really isn't needed. I owned the z5 premium and had it emulate 4k all the time with a kernel and then in the end just went back to stock but it its also something reviewers would target as an issue
I hope there will be simple hack to enable such a feature. This will be needed for example when you want to watch VR video with cardboard using custom app, even if content will be 4k by default app will not enable it.
Yea you can enable it to 2K 4K with abd. I just wanted to see if Sony had implemented to change the display res under the settings, Guess they did NOT.
Youtube now supports 4K resolution for the XZ Premium. That's what i like most!

You can try this method when you get the phone.
Plus I saw it in a video that Sony mentioned that they may include an option to change the resolution in future update. I think they should but I would just use it in 2K once I get the device.
yes i knew this adb trick from the old sony xperia 4k Handy, i make it so bevor i sell it, but this was not a good option, the apps/players for the VR 360 movies working bad, to small on the Display........you would not happy with this Settings
then Sony make a new 4K Handy, and what? Same fuc....k
4K only works in Sony Photo App and Sony Videoplayer........but this can not play 360 or 180 Videos corretly with motion, only still.
Techradar says:
"You won’t find a sharper screen on another smartphone, and unlike its 4K-toting predecessor you actually get the full resolution all the time. The Z5 Premium would only deliver the full 4K experience when you were watching video of the same resolution, whereas on the new Xperia XZ Premium it’s 3840 x 2160 all the way – from the home screen and browser to the app store and your social media profiles."
I think it is a mistake from Techradar, but what do you think, can it be true?

You won't get higher resolution graphics in any game by changing the resolution to 4k. All you will do is zoom out really far making things really hard to see and the ui will be tiny. It would only be worth it in games that use proper scaling and there aren't many aaa games on Android that might do it. Buy a 4k phone for videos and photos. Don't expect people to quadruple their graphics production workload for such a niche gaming market.

if you check mods section of the XZ Premium forum, you will find a ''trick'' (by ADB) to change the resolution to native 4K, with this method everything will be displayed in native 4K resolution (really appreciate this mod), hope I helped !

Can i Watch 4k YouTube video on poco 3x?

good evening,
i wanted to kindly ask you if, with this device, i could see videos in 4k, for example on youtube (i read that on xiaomi mi 10 lite you see videos in 4k, but i am afraid of having ghost touching problem with that model ). as for LIVE VIEW inside GOOGLE MAPS, how does it behave? go jerky?
I await you and thank you very much, it is important
Hi. The 4k option doesn't show up for me. Not that it matters though. 6.6" display at 1080p resolution wouldn't make a difference anyways (except for huge increase in data usage). As for Google Maps live view it seems to be working just fine though to be honest I find it being a useless gimmick. Some old Nokia phones had a similar feature and it was just as useless back then as it is now.
FYI I use Vanced not thr stock YT app so it might be different there.
You can try to to look for Vanced Youtube
Like I said I use Vanced and even if you set 2160p as your preferred resolution there's no visual difference only in the amount of data pulled to play the video. On like a PC monitor or TV you might notice less compression so it might make sense to use a higher resolution than your display can support but on a tiny smartphone screen? Unless you absolutely have a need to burn through your data without any profit I'd say stay away from 4k.
Trying to watch a 4k or even a 2K video on a 1080p screen ? What's the point ?
You can't display more than effective screen pixels...

Convert video to NATIVE Live Wallpaper?

I know there are many apps that will allow videos to be used as live wallpaper, but all the ones I've found require the app. Is there an app or PC program that will convert a video to a native live wallpaper so it doesn't need the 3rd party app to work?
If video is in MP4 format - and video's FPS and resolution matches Android device's defaults - then you don't need an extra 3rd-party-app.

I'm wanting to use it for my Home Screen. My Samsung Galaxy S10e only has the option to make a video into a lock screen wallpaper. Am I missing something or is the feature not available on Samsungs?
