Packages which are safe to remove and a few problems. - Xiaomi Mi CC9 / Mi 9 Lite Guides, News, & Discussi

My device is the Mi 9 Lite, purchased from eBay Germany and I have Global Miui 11.
Going to make this a list of packages which can be removed and/or what they do as much as I can.
If you try any of this keep in mind this is a WIP and I say be cautios. The worst that can happen upon removing EVERY single mi-related package is,
your phone hangs up, you have to boot into recovery and factory reset. Meaning you should back up your data beforehand but that's literally all.
I did that several times in a row but I was able to narrow down apps you don't particularly need unless you use them.
You have to connect via adb shell and I'm not going into that because there is plenty of guides out there.
There was an incredibly useful article on Fossbytes, just look it up.
These packages that can be removed safely, the phone will boot just fine and I notice not a single issue.
Keep in mind that if there's apps that you use you obviously don't wanna mess with those:
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.browser # the default Browser
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.calendar #Mi Default Calendar
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.soundrecorder #This is the Recorder app.

pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.audiomonitor # removed no issues
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.bugreport #I still get report windows when settings crashes.
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.calculator # Mi Calculator

The following packages should not be removed or at least they broke something:
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.providers.calendar # not safe to remove, messes up the clock and can't use either calendar nor download from playstore anymore
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.xiaomi.finddevice #issue: pop-up bubble "FindDevice has been destroyed" According to Google breaks boot and have to factory reset
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.notification #warning: this will break notification settings and make them inaccessible
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.miwallpaper # Mi Wallpapers. Update: Not neccessarily broken but it removes the default app for Wallpaper selection and makes setting a new wallpaper obnoxiously complicated. First you have to use a different app like Google but then it's not guaranteed that you can change your lock screen wall.
Upon removing one of the following packages my phone stopped booting and I had to factory reset:
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.securityadd # Security Center
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.securitycenter # Security Center
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.securitycore # Security Center
And here's the packages which are still open for experimentation, the list is very small now and if somebody wants to give it a spin I would very much appreciate it:

Good thread, keep us updated. thank you!

thank you sooooo much
thanks dude

Very, very useful information. Thanks!

pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.freeform: Experimental feature which can be enabled on the developer settings on Android 10, it can be used on the calculator app, uninstalling it didn't cause issues
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.msa.global: Analyzation of user behaviors, uninstalling it didn't cause issues
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.vsimcore: Not sure what this is, uninstalling it didn't cause issues
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.xiaomi.joyose: Not sure what this is, uninstalling it didn't cause issues

Thanks for the original post, I uninstalled like two third of those apps without any issues as well. Adding few own observations:
-- removed in addition to the original post (just different distribution of "extra apps") --
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.netflix.partner.activation # Netflix Partner Activation
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.apps.tachyon # Google Duo
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.huawei.hwvplayer # Huawei(!) Video player
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.instagram.android # Instagram
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.hybrid.accessory # another part of Xiaomi Quick Apps
-- few minor explanations/correction to the original post: --
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.misound #Mi Audio Player --> actually "Headphones and sound effects" app, probably safe to remove anyway but personally I rather kept it
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.player #don't know what this does but I've removed it no issues --> this is the Music Player
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.xiaomi.payment # removed no issues --> part of Mi Credit
-- different opinion - apps which were reported as safe to remove but since I don't have any system backup I rather kept them (reasons below) --
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.gallery # this supposedly limits means how to set wallpaper for lock screen. Can anyone confirm?
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.tencent.soter.soterserver # no matter how I would love to get any Tencent app from my phone this seems somehow relevant to authentication and stuff so I am rather keeping it. https://github.com/Tencent/soter
-- can be added to "open for experimentation", noticed them but did not try to remove them --
pm uninstall -k --user 0 org.codeaurora.gps.gpslogsave # GPSLogSave, don't have any info about this
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.wapi.wapicertmanage # WAPI certificate, don't have any info about this
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.egg # Android Easter Egg, sounds safe to remove if you can miss the fun
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.emergency # Emergency Information
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.htmlviewer # System HTML Viewer, according to other sites should be safe to remove (on other devices) but it is not recommended

Thanks for this list, removed all I don't like

Hi very useful list, let me add something
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.msa.global # Stands for MIUI System Ads, delet if you dont like the Ads

Gallery app crashing after debloat (I think I need some help please!)
Hello. I've removed some apps from the safe list only, but I got Gallery app crashing now. Do you guys have some thoughts about how to solve this issue without having to reinstall the entire ROM?

Sorry for asking, but the apps that I uninstall, get automatically installed when an update is applied?

No, nothing to update if uninstalled.

I froze com.tencent.soter.soterserver, no problem with authentication in Google Play Store. Maybe this is for some China app store, which I don't use anyway.

Thank you so so mutch.
Best regards.

What about com.android.deskclock/com.google.android.deskclock?
Having 2 clock apps it's a bit annoying

Thanks for this

Curious as to what com.mi.health is...
com.xiaomi.mi_connect_service, com.xiaomi.miplay_client, com.milink.service and com.xiaomi.joyose are also mysterious.

Force uninstalling GetApps (com.xiaomi.market) on K20 Pro Premium (Chinese) through XiaomiADBFastboot cause system being destroyed, and It can't be disabled as the command fails each time. Any help?

Great guide banes768, thanks!!

Never ever even try to uninstall xiaomi.finddevice, it's an app that does many things apparently, under the guise of supposedly being a simple find device app ... grrr, hate this package. It cannot be frozen too, all I can do is use a Tasker task to deactivate it from Device Admin during boot.

I unistanstalled it because I never activated and used it, but after I uninstalled my device didn't boot up. After full reinstalling all, I tryed to activate and use it instead of Google Find Device. Never have it worked. I hate it. Using Google app, and it is working ok.

Guide to disable OEM bloatware aka system apps using adb and fastboot method (NO ROOT) [Thread Updated on 16-08-2021]

AS we know miui is highly customizable and user friendly rom, with powerful optimization ;but downside is it is also comes as a heavily bloated oem,
if you're like me and so much hate these damned sideloaded shady apps
we can easily disable them using this method. damn the defaults.
note: please be careful while disabling system apps while this may interfere with proper functioning of the device
although changes done using this method are not permanent and can be easily reverted back by resetting the device.
* Original credits to Doug Lynch . all credits belong to the corresponding dev and xda.
i just modified it a bit to suit it for MIUI without triggering the functionality of the device.
* This method can be used on any device irrespective of the oem; that's the beauty of android, you just have to be careful not to trigger any system process or app
which is critical in booting up and functioning of the device.
* tested on : Redmi note 5 pro (MIUI 9.5.2) (whyred) , Xiaomi MIA1 (tissot) , MOTO G 2nd gen
Requirements:
1. get your device drivers here https://developer.android.com/studio/run/oem-usb.html#Drivers
2. adb and fastboot drivers here https://drive.google.com/open?id=1e8ANzZ-mQJP0ESJHYx4ZAbDQDEYTtCdW
(i recommend to install it system wide)
3. respective device with USB debugging enabled on it. for newbies
(go to Settings and tap on About Phone. Find the Build Number and tap on it 7 times
to enable Developer Options. Now enter Developer Options and find USB Debugging. Enable it.)
4. Launch a Command Prompt window by holding Shift and Right-clicking then selecting the “open command prompt here” option.
and enter the following command adb devices
5. If this is your first time running ADB, you will see a prompt on your phone asking you
to authorize a connection with the computer. Grant it.
6. Now if you re-run the adb devices command, the terminal will print the serial number of your device.
If so, then you’re ready to move on.
7. now enter the following command adb shell
8. here's the list of commands through which the respective apps can be disabled.

Description for few apps:-
~ Google search bar and activity (this also removes google voice and "ok google" functionality)
~ Xiaomi picks (i don't want a chinese oems to suggest me top apps to install!? i think that's what google playstore is for)
~ Xiaomi browser (aka skinned UC browser with ads voila)
~ Google chrome (you know for obvious reasons chrome is a ram hog and im paranoid about google tracking my day to day activity and there are plenty other alternatives like lightning browser and opera)
~ Google Duo (whatsapp has the same video calling functionality)
~ MIUI bug report (you dont report anything if there's nothing to report)
~ MIUI Gallery ( quickpic is a lightweight and better alternative, i would advice against disabling it as it breaks the doodling functionality on screenshots)
~ Google play movies and tv (ill leave this to you guys)
~ Google play music (paid subscription ; Poweramp and phonograph are better at it)
~ XIaomi payment (WHATT!!)
~ MI Drop (file sharing just like shareit)
~ MI video player (imo MX player is a better one with in built codecs)
~ MI notes app
~ MI Music player (cant beat poweramp)
~ Google photos (ill leave this to you guys)
~ MI scanner (camscan can do this better)
~ MI screen recorder
~ MI home launcher (for some reasons this cannot be disabled)
~ MI yellowpage
~ Google talkback
~ MI hybrid
~ MI compass
~ Facebook services (whf is this a system privilaged process)
~ Facebook system
~ Facebook app manager (no i don't want fb to monitor everything)
~ MIUI antispam
~ KLO bugreport
~ MIUI Global assistant
~ MI system cleaner (skinned cheetah clean master which is very aggressive)
~ Analytics
~ MI weather
~ MI weather
~ Google talkback
~ Google tts service
~ MIUI cloud service (for those who dont have much use of cloud service)
~ MIUI cloud backup
~ Xiaomi Account ( careful as this stops themes from down;loading from MI theme store, doesn't effect anything else)
~ Xiaomi webkit (more like android system webview, doesn't effect any functionality)
END

Just install sd maid or es file explorer and find the apk name just like com.android.********* and follow the same procedure mentioned above
I installed "applications info" that lists internal names of all apps and I could successfully uninstall many of the bloat from Redmi note 5 pro
Can you please provide the list of (bloatware) which you uninstalled/disabled from redmi note 5 pro. Thanks in advance.

Every app listed here can be disabled safely without bootloop, you just have to be selective on what apps to disable

Yes, in 1st post you wrote it. Ive opened the txt file like i said. And there is nothing with "Install nova launcher first". Same in your post number 9.
Flashed the MIUI10 Launcher via TWRP. Now its working again

No problem, was my mistake too. I should take a closer look before start debloating.
Thx for sharing how to debloat.
Gesendet von meinem Redmi Note 5 mit Tapatalk
nice guide i try it on my ysl, it would be better to leave miui launcher and xiaomi account
I'd also debloat more like miuidaemon, miuiwallpaper, msa, system app updater, gmail, maps, youtube, drive etc
hope this list will be update.
because lot more bloatware still not removed
I use this method in the meantime as I'm on a RN5 locked bootloader and worry about the brick
http://en.miui.com/thread-625096-1-1.html
Great guide! It may stop me from unlocking the bootloader and installing a custom ROM! Just a couple of questions.. If I remove the miui gallery, what is this doodling I lose? Secondly if I upgrade through OTA, all these apps will reappear, correct?
Oh and one more question: Is this guide still relevant on MIUI 10?
Thanks

S9+ Debloat Stock Camera - remove anoying Bixby and Stickers?

Hi there S9/+ folks,
As many others I do like clean unbloated android systems as much as clean unbloated apps without a lot of bling or unnecessary functions.
The Samsung camera app is one of the best for years... but now with bixby, stickers and so on, samsung is starting to bloat even the camera app. Really?
Idea: I've always debloated my Samsung phones heavily and many times an uninstallation/disabling of system apps was resulting also in a corresponding disapearence of them in settings, in other apps and in the sharing dialog (like mytv, wifi direct, finder, nearby, samsungfriends, scloud,...). Great! (e.g. without Play Services even the Google Settings disappear from the system settings menu). The result is a wonderfully clean, fast and long-lasting (battery) phone. Why not try that for the Camera App?
I'm just experimenting with the S9+ Camera on how to remove the bixby, sticker, ... bloat stuff. But as of now I havn't found the right packages to remove the bloat from the camera app...
What I've tried so far:
Code:
Bixby:
com.samsung.android.bixby.es.globalaction
com.samsung.android.app.spage
com.samsung.android.bixby.plmsync
com.samsung.android.visionintelligence
com.samsung.android.bixby.agent
com.samsung.android.bixby.agent.dummy
com.samsung.android.bixby.voiceinput
com.samsung.android.bixby.wakeup
com.android.hotwordenrollment.okgoogle (not related, but still)
Sticker:
com.samsung.android.provider.stickerprovider
com.samsung.android.app.camera.sticker.facear.preload
com.samsung.android.app.camera.sticker.stamp.preload
com.samsung.android.stickercenter
For anybody not used to debloating, a little guide:
Code:
How to Disable or Uninstall Apps:
1. Using a disabler app: Package Disabler Pro, BK Disabler or Adhell (disables apps now)
2. Using ADB:
- adb shell
- pm uninstall -k --user 0 'package-name'
(use "pm list packages | grep 'searchword' " for finding the actual app-names)
Any ideas what packages are important for bixby and stickers?
Any ideas if we can re-write/mod the camera app to work without bixby and stickers?
Thanks for any advice, would be great if we can smoke em out!
UPDATE:
IT WORKS!!! But, Camera Stock App crashes after about 5-15 seconds, until that the app works. I've removed all apps as mentioned above.
Maybe someone can try without removing the sticker-packages, as I can not roll back until there is the Android 8.1 update... (because of my debloat method)

Very interesante post.
Can you post your personal debloat list? I'm doing a lot of test with titanium backup deleting apps but there are a lot of apps that make the phone not boot. And is difficult and tedious to know what app are the causant. Thanks for this post. Bixby and camera bloat are totally unnecessary.
Thanks for your reply. Yes it's a lot of work to sort the unimportant from the important (system-relevant) apps. I've done that on my S7 always on the limit.
A debloat list for the S9+ is not easy for me as I'm debloating the S9+ with adb shell (uninstall app of user 0) and have not made a list. Maybe it would be easier if you send your list and I take a look if I have something different. As of a xml I can only upload my S7 Debloat XML from Package Disabler Pro. Alternatively take a look at the S8 Debloat Threads:
One good list I've looked at is (link to post):

And take a look at this S8 Debloat thread, working for S9:

especially at this awesome post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73894621&postcount=23
Really great stuff!
Maybe better to have this great list directly here (big thanks to Ijaz Farooq!!!):

Huawei P20 bloatware reinstalls auto after reboot

Hi,
I have a P20 EML-L29 with the last updates installed (build 9.0.0.197, emui 9.0.0, android 9). As many other people, I hate the bloatware Huawei includes on the phone, therefore, trough ADB I uninstalled them using the following commands :
HTML:
adb shell
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.amazon.aa
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.booking
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.apps.docs.editors.docs
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.apps.docs
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.apps.tachyon
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.ebay.mobile
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.facebook.katana
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.gm
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.videos
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.music
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.huawei.phoneservice
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.instagram.android
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.hicloud.android.clone
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.apps.photos
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.huawei.health
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.apps.docs.editors.sheets
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.apps.docs.editors.slides
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.microsoft.translator
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.amazon.aa.attribution
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.ebay.carrier
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.chrome
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.huawei.android.tips
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.huawei.appmarket
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.huawei.android.totemweather
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.facebook.services
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.facebook.appmanager
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.huawei.vassistant
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.facebook.system
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.facebook.orca
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.huawei.KoBackup
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.huawei.wallet
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.hwmirror
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.huawei.compass
The apps immediately disappeared, but after a reboot, most of them are back.
I could understand, even if I don't like this, that Huawei is reinstalling some of their own apps when phone reboots. But it happens with apps like Booking, ebay and others that are not directly Huawei apps.
Did anyone had the same issue of apps reinstalling automatically, and if yes, did you find a solution to avoid it ?
I saw on internet and also on xda people posting guides on how to remove bloatware and everyone is using the same method I did without any issue. Is there something I missed ? Is it because of the update of the phone I did yesterday ? Would appreciate if anyone has an idea.
In advance thanks.
What I can tell you is, that this has been able before the 9.0 Update.

Maybe they have changed something? I will check this out, if I find an useless pre-installed app left on my phone.
It seems to be "normal". And it sucks. My Provider (1&1 Germany) has also a forced Update with Bloatware. I asked them online about it, but they didn't reply till now.
Edit 20.45pm: My Provider answered. Those App are "optimised version for better user experience". If I don't like or need any of these installed apps I should simply uninstall them. No word about the fact that it's forced and unwanted. It sucks.

How To Guide Quick Debloat ATT (SM-711U1)

No for non-rooted/stock/bootlocked phones
This is my debloat list, simply copy paste into ADB. I still run some Google and Samsung services but this takes out all the carrier, Microsoft, Facebook and Samsung garbage that they lock into the system. Most of these you can reinstall though Google Play and Samsung Market store
WARNING: I'm not responsible for damage, bricking and/or your phone not updating OTA. Don't bug me if you broke your phone.
Again, Im not sure if your phone will update or not OTA after debloating. Mine hasn't since December so I have been using ODIN to push the updates. I'm posting this because this is my personal list and I haven't seen some of these packages on any other articles online or XDA so it may help other people. Upon request I don't mind posting other package names below.

Edit: Deleting it is fine after testing:

Im not sure if deleting it will cause a problem, so for now just disable.
Thank you bro...

I'm pretty sure these phones don't have an esim

Question Accessibility Settings keep Stopping (List of uninstalled system apk's attached)

Hi.. Recently i debloated my brand new S22 Ultra of system apps via adb method. I think, since then, when i go into Accessibility settings and press on installed apps to give permission, it just backs out of that page or just pops a message saying "accessibility keeps stopping".. This happens when i press the following
Accessibility page :
talkback setting -- accessibility stops
visibility enhancements -- opens
hearing enhancements -- option opens but when i press sub divisions it forecloses
interaction & dexterity -- opens
advance settings -- opens but when i press options of side and volume keys, it forecloses
installed apps -- opens but when i press on apps, t closes
about accessibility and contact us options works fine..
Somewhere, in other posts, i read that removing samsung (via adb method) keyboard will cause this issue and will be resolved once u install it again but in my case it didn't help.
I did remove samsung keyboard accidentally, which i installed again but accessibility keeps foreclosing
If anybody has any idea, it will be greatly appreciated..
THANQ
Dependencies.
Many of the Samsung system apks just sit there, harmlessly, unless needed.
Be conservative with debloating, know what the apk does and what if any dependencies it has.
Post your list... see if anyone can spot it.

Wow, you really went nutz. I can't spot the offender(s).
Some of those are complete junk but many others don't run unless needed.
One or more of those is a needed dependency... or it's a totally unrelated problem. Some of those Samsung apks I never have seen or altered. Names can be misleading or the apk may be dependent on a apk that seems totally unrelated.
I look closely at the disabled Samsung apks. That list will certainly destroy many Samsung features, some that are useful and that may have unknown dependencies.
Basically I go after the power hogs or junk that runs on start up. Some like Digital Wellbeing, the Kids stuff or the MS junk are a no brainer. Some of the Bixby apks aren't as straightforward. My list is about 76 apks and I'm using a package disabler so I can change them on the fly... or test them. One service I would kill is OTA updates, destroyer of worlds.
Try safe mode to rule out a buggy 3rd party app.
Clear system cache.
If that fails you'll need to make some hard choices. Factory reset and go with a more conservative list, doing small groups, checking before adding more.
Or painstakingly Google search each one and see if you can spot the one(s) causing this.

This one has always worked. Been using it for over 3 years.
Even after 2.5 years I'm still exploring features I never used before on my N10+'s. Go after the obvious hogs and the apks you know are completely useless. Part of the fun of Samsung's is their feature rich environment.

now, is there any safe list of removable apps via adb method.!?
If somebody faces this issue, this is the culprit...

Yay! Good find! Oddly I have this disabled on my N10+'s but it doesn't behave exactly like your's does.
Hearing enhancements appears fully functional.
I'll probably leave mine disabled as I don't use speech to text at all. For my devices it may introduce vulnerabilities.
Best not to touch those little Samsung system apks. Starting with Android 10 many new ones were added as work arounds to the changes Google made to the OS. Many control the UI and appearance it seems.
My N10+'s Android 10 vs 9 variant has close to a hundred new small Samsung system apps added. I ignored them for now; they don't seem to interfere with battery usage. My disable list for both the N975U and the N975U1 are nearly identical in spite of the many new Samsung system apps.

Different Android versions. Scoped storage screwed up everything and degraded the functionality of many good apps.
Samsung may have modified the app itself because of this or for other insane reasons I've seen Samsung app updates and upgrades break and screw up perfectly good apps more than once*. Many of the Samsung and Google apps are still deliberately running on their factory load versions on my N10+/Pie phone.
*this happens all the time on Playstore for various reasons. My copy of WPS office is 6 yo and free. I use ApkExport to backup all my apps and don't use Playstore if I reload. Playstore updates are always disabled.
