A question from a ex Samsung User - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

Hey guys,
now its the time i finaly switch away from samsung to Oneplus for diffrent reasons. I except my new Oneplus 7t Pro next week.
So i used ''Disconnect Pro'' from Sasmung all the time for Adblocking/Tracking blocking in Internet and all system Apps. I guess this will no longer work on the Oneplus because of Knox. So im asking myslef, wich alternatives are out there for Oneplus ? Is Adhell an alternative or is there a smiliar free/pay app like DisconnectPro for Oneplus ? Im searching for an App, that not just block things in Internetbrwoser. In best case, i find something like DisconnectPro for system wide blocking. If there is nothing out, i would use my PerfectPrivacy VPN..not the best soulution, but better than nothing.
Beside of this..i cant wait till my new Device arrives next week :victory:

Blokada will be your friend. It is great

Adguard?
I use paid version and it performs ok.

Do this App blocking only Ads in your Brwoser or in the whole system ? I read description and guess this is just for Brwoser ? And that just for Yandex/Samsung Browser

The one in the play market is for browser only but if you go to adguard.com there's the app I am talking about. It's system wide.

Sounds perfect to me. Exact thing i searched.. thank you very much ! :highfive:

Well you can root the OP7t so if you plan on doing that then just get AdAway.

My suggestion is to forgo all of this stuff and just enable the "private DNS" setting to Adguard's DNS. It takes like 10 seconds, you don't have to install anything, and it gives you system wide adblocking without root... And it doesn't affect any previous DNS settings you may have set up with your phone and home modem/router. I don't know why this isn't talked about more.
Just go to "Settings/WiFi & Internet/Private DNS", and type out the DNS as I have here in the screenshot. No rebooting required.

Yeah, one of many reasons to buy this Device. I maybe Plan to, maybe not. I must see if i really need it, but if yes, AdAway will be for sure the first thing i install. Used AdAway long time on my (rooted)Samsung Devices, in my opinion is this one of the best Apps to do this Job systemwide.

Hey & welcome to XDA ! :highfive:
Its not my OP but to answer your question. I cant remember that you cant post a new thread as a new member. Maybe your Browser/Addons are not working correct or something is blocked wich is needed to post ?! Im not sure, as you can see i have a few days on XDA. If you still cant post i would recommend to you to write to an Moderator or Admin with your issue. Or maybe create yourself a new account just for testing reasons if this problem still presits for you.
Good luck !

You're gonna miss the hell out of the AOD and notification system that Samsung offered. I HATE my OP 7 pro due to these factors. For real world use it's a PIA truly

Know what you mean but guess what ? In the Enddays of my Samsungtime here and now, i dont use AoD or the wohle notification system. I just set up that my apps send me a classic ping ton when a message arrives. So this saves in case of Samsung a few % Battery over the Day. Not too much, but a bit. With this, i dont just need a notification LED. But guess that is something, that everone must see for himself, if this way is good and right to you. For me, it is. Was a big AoD Fan at the beginning, was just a cool feature, but over the time, i see no benefits for me.

Antivirus/Malware & Traffic Monitoring

I am newly registered to the XDA but I have followed for some time now. I have rooted a LG Optimus M as well my AT&T Galaxy S2 Skyrocket ( two separate devices...)
I recently switched to the :good::good::good::good:CM9 nightly builds:good::good::good:. Good so far in that realm minus a weird gallery issue.
My real question is what are people doing about antivirus/malware protection on a rooted phone? I have tried AVG and a couple of others, but the interface doesn't really show what it is doing. I also have a Macbook Pro and use Little Snitch for monitoring traffic going in and out. I can approve or deny traffic on a one time basis or forever. Is there also an app that would provide this type of functionality as traffic going out that I have not approved is generally my first clue that something might be going on.
This is my first post (N00bie) so I apologize if it is not formatted like some of you professional XDA members.
Thanks in advance.

Ello, be warned that once you post you can't stop. I don't have any real input as I just install AVG and use common sense to not download ****ty apps. So I'll probably learn some good things.

I try not to install "****ty apps". I went on the play store and looked at the dr.web app the previous person suggested. I see a lot of negative feedback on that app... Works, doesn't work, won't uninstall, blah blah blah.... I think I will see what others post about this issue and make the best informed decision I possibly can...

some of those people are idiots on there haha but also they may have a phone thats incompatible with the app whereas the skyrocket is compatible.. Ive pretty much tried every anti virus and dr.web is hands down the best and has very little battery usage
EDIT: the people that have uninstall issues probably forgot that they gave the app device administrative access... which you have to turn off to uninstall

I agree, a lot of people are idiots on the play store. I am not saying it is a bad product, I am going to check out all responses to my posting and see what works best. I don't even mind paying for the app if it truly does what it says.
I was reading an article on my Flipbook (Google>>Don't get faked by Android antivirus apps<<) the other day that said a lot of the Android A/V apps miss a lot of malware. I know these apps can't catch every iteration but really??? 50%??? That is horrible...

This is the same report as the article I mentioned. Good, I am on the right track then...
I installed Dr.Web, but immediately presented with a purchase page. :crying:
I looked over the results of the test and settled on Lookout for now. It seems when I install any app, it will automatically scan that app for me... I like that approach. I may purchase it later... maybe...
I will let you know if I run into any problems with that one... I have to say if you don't have some sort of Antivirus, you may be asking for problems... Seems with rooting and modding that we are doing, you never REALLY know what someone has programmed into a mod or app. I still want something like Little Snitch that monitors all inbound/outbound traffic and lets me decide whether to allow/deny connections....
Would be a nice feature in my mind...

As long as you're not side loading apps and pay attention to the permissions that's all good.
You also have to not use open networks where they can poison and intercept your info. I stay off those and don't side load.

LBE privacy guard.
I've used it for a long while now. Clean, simple, and only presents me with a super user style allow/deny for permission requests. It let's you enable or disable internet connectivity for an app, but not specific requests to specific hosts like little snitch. Its great for other permissions too, locations, contact lists, etc.

Huawei's decision to use its own memory manager....

Ok, so this was a huge problem on the Mediapad X1. Where huawei's memory manager kills apps in the background. Why do we need task killers today Huawei? Please stop
On the Mediapad X1 there were a bunch of apps like Google Hangouts that would get killed even though you tell it not to get killed via "Protected Apps", having your texting app not run in the background is bad as you can imagine. So now I have an X2 and it seems like this Protected App thing actually works better, however I noticed today that the bluetooth services were getting killed in the background as it would not pair with my car until I turned on the screen. Because these are built in services you can't "Protect" them.
Just posting this here so hopefully Huawei can see it and fix it
But seriously, they should just use the memory manager built into android and not try to monkey around with, we don't need task killers any more.

I am on an X2 now and yes, it appears to be working so far (Using SimplyText), I've only had the phone for 2 days however so I am still testing, but this was the main reason I almost didn't buy and X2 because of apps shutting down all the time on my X1 in the background.
What tweaks are normally required?

I have had Textra recommended to me as a work-around for MMS texting glitches. I am used to that now and will try it but if I have problems I will try your app. By tweaks I just meant that so much of what most of you do is not what a "regular" cell phone user would know. I had no idea there were memory manager things I might need to address. (I haven't done that before). That is why I am here. To learn about new things and to be prepared as much as possible for when (at this point it is "if") my 702L gets here!

You have to go into startup manager and check each app, protected apps and trust each application, add it to startup, and in permission manager you have to trust each application. I agree though, I wish this didn't exist as there's no need for it. If you're rooted you can take it out but you'll lose the Do Not Disturb mode as it is baked into it.

I was rooted on the X1 and getting rid of the Power Manager still made stuff die in the background, it was pretty irritating. So far with the X2 it mostly works. As far as I can tell only bluetooth dies (Which I can't add to any of those apps as its a system app)
The X2 is such a better phone than the X1. I hope Huawei keeps on top of bug fixes. With a generic android memory manager this phone would be truly awesome.

I got my X2 today from fashioncoconuts on eBay and everything is good. It even came unlocked. I'm liking these eBay sellers.
Edit: after I did a factory reset it said the bootloader was locked. Now when I use Google Maps it tells me I must update my Google Play Services. When I do my Google Account Disappears and my Play Store doesn't open. I'm beginning to dislike Huawei's implementation of their apps. Blocking certain apps from being installed is totally lame on Huawei's part. Now the waiting game begins for my unlock code. I'm giving them three days. If not both phones are going on eBay and I'm done with Huawei. Rant over.

Yeah. They told me they shipped it out on the 5th and didn't until the 15th. Now I know why. They raised the price too right after I bought it. A lot of these eBay sellers jack the price up way too high. No one should pay more than $399 for it. I'm just glad it came already unlocked. It seems Huawei is no longer sending emails to people with the unlock codes anymore.

Ok, this morning bluetooth connect up fine (I'm on B108)
But I noticed the Lux (screen brightness app) had stopped in the background.
Services shutting down in the background was a huge issue on the X1 and for the most part seems to work on the X2 but it seems some things still get killed in the background once in a while even though they are "Protected Apps"
I'll keep monitoring and see if I notice anything else...

Possible Solution to Titanium Backup stuck at 0%

If you are having issues with Titanium Backup while you are restoring (if it stays at 0%), then try this.
Possible Solution to T.B:
1) Go to settings > General > About Phone > Software info
2) Press build number 7 times
3) Go to Go to settings > General > Developer options
4) ACTIVATE USB DEBUGGING MODE!
5) That's it. It shouldn't get stuck at 0% anymore
Hope it helps :good:

Same here, not working. I tried also the "Auto Indirect" mode in PREFERENCES / APP PROCESSING MODE of TB Pro. I did a new install of SuperSU. I did a full clean install of the system. Nothing works. I cannot restore my Apps anymore. The only way to restore the backup is to use the INTERACTIVE MODE, which doesn't allow batch processing but it works as workaround.

I've literally been pulling my hair out over the last 24hrs over this!
Flashed different ROMs, Restored my device to factory state, with no luck.
I've found a temporary fix for myself.
1)Settings--Google--Security and turn off verify apps.
2)Turn off verify apps over USB in developer settings.
3)Restore using Titanium.
4)Turn security settings back on.
It Seems google has beefed up their secuirity.
The Guys on the substratum theme thread are having a similar issue.

It seems to work on my Pixel, obviously each device has different settings.
Then i will change this to possible solution instead of just solution lol. Sorry guys. My solution still working for me though... Im using weta 4.7.3 rom. I cant confirm nor deny that google did something to alter the functionality since i didnt try to go back to a version of weta where TB worked fine. (and there is no way i will do that now lol. I still feel the pain of loosing all my data for good)

I was so pi$$$$$ed yesterday!! It just so happened that I was flashing a new ROM to my device yesterday (which I do waaaay too much, I think I have a problem lol) and suddenly wasn't able to restore anything through TiBU. I spent the better part of last night trying various things, all the while thinking that my device was seriously messed up this time!! Heh. I was kind of stressed. Just a tad. And I think I owe my wife some flowers after work today because she wasn't very happy with me for being on my phone all night, yelling and screaming and cussing... you get the idea I'm sure.
Anyway, this works in case anyone else needs confirmation. And for the record, I don't think this is an issue with TiBU because I even tried earlier builds. I agree with the others that it seems to have something to do with something Google implemented... Not very happy and seriously hope it's just a big oops that gets resolved soon. Either that, or TiBU gets updated to work-around the new security measures!

Glad it helped. I too was a little stressed and my poor kids paid the price! I think I owe them a bag of sweets or two.
I've filled out a form to the developers with the possible fix and relevant commits needed to workaround this issue. Let's hope they pay attention.
Thanks to the OP for opening this thread in the first place.

like bypassing the smart lock or prevent the google locked phone? if so just go to accounts on settings and go to google and then remove the account from the device. After that you can flash without remorse. :silly: . Although you can also flash with the google locked phone and still been able to bypass it.

Roms

Where are all the custom roms at? I only see 2 in the rom thread. Are the S7 & S7edge roms compatible?
Thanks..

There are no custom roms for the S7 USA variants. It's not possible with a locked bootloader. We only have a few modified stock roms. I'm currently rooted and waiting for Xposed so I can finally have some decent performance and battery life.

No there was a kernel source leak, so devs made a modified eng bootloader that allows root.

Thanks for the info. Im just trying to decide if I should keep my LG V20 or switch to the S7. Is the lag & battery as bad as many are complaining?

Only with root, stock is fine. If you do want the S7 with roms and kernels just get international because I feel the us is not worth it.

I'm on an unlocked G930T on AT&T on Nougat and really have not found a reason strong enough to go through the rooting process. The only thing that pushes my buttons is that I can't use TB and can't kill some of the old TMO apps completely. But the phone is speedy, gets me through the day without a charge, and has resources available. I've got a theme I like and have most things white on dark which I like better.
So until root becomes extremely easy and reliable, I'm okay with what I've got.
Hi I'm also on an unlocked version of TMobile using ATT. Are you doing anything specific for better battery life? I went to sleep at 100% and woke up with 87%. I have disable those that can be, I'm on Nougat as well and haven't installed too many apps yet.

Not really, just disabled everything I'm not using. And I use the device maintenance to optimize and clear memory every now and then. And I try not to leave the screen on, etc. The usual stuff. I get a day with no issues. I bought some extra wireless fast chargers on eBay and use them if necessary but really feel like I wasted my money because I just set it on the charger at night and it normally goes all day. But I'm not a real heavy phone user. That's part of it.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
Buy Package Disabler Pro and disable all of the bloatware that comes with stock plus any other apps you feel like, my phone is flawless...
The only thing I miss about being rooted is Viper4Android, wish I could have that on stock.

I have no idea how, but it totally does.. It color coordinates system apps, user added apps and even known bloatware apps, making it easy to decide what to stop.
It's designed specifically for Samsung phones, and is the first app I install since I don't have root anymore.
Worth every penny.
Well from TMo you can get s7 edge for $480 or the flat s7 for $560? On the edge, they have fixed the palm rejection at lease on the coral blue.

Well that's weird. I bought it, tried to install it, and it says I'm rooted or there's some other issue and won't install. Obviously I'm not rooted so I don't know what's up.
After reading some of the later reviews there are many others with the same issue. I'm emailing them to see if there is any resolution.
You might want to try your app to see if it's still working correctly.

Totally jinxed me..
I haven't opened the app in months because, why? It just works..
As soon as I open it to check, the license check failed and all my frozen apps reappeared.
Now I can't get it to reactivate, it seems many people are having this problem since the upgrade to Nougat.
SUCKS... Why did I help you hahahahaha.. really though, it sucks. Hopefully they fix it, I'll leave Samsung if not.
I did find this in another thread.. Try it out.
There's a link on the 4th post, it works and I'll use that until the current version of Package Disabler Pro is fixed or updated.

I emailed them the evening I tried to install it and they sent a couple of suggestions. None of them worked so I let them know. They sent another email a couple of hours later and said "try it again" and this time is did work. So they fixed something.
Anyway, thanks. And sorry for jinxing you! But it's not all bad news. I ran your Thanks count up to double digits!
FWIW, I'm a long-time user of BK Package Disabler Pro. For me, it continued working both during the Nougat beta period and since installation of the final version.

Strange. I wonder why it quit working for so many people. They need to fix it for everybody though because their rating on play store is going down quickly.

I've used CCWSE for a long time and right before the Note 20 Ultra came out he let his license lapse or something and had to switch to Package Disabler Pro. Not on the beta program so still on 10 but I bet they'll both be working when 11 comes out of beta.

Samsung revoked his license because he had a "free product" that you could buy a key for. Somewhere deep in the fine print this was against their rules.
He had to rerelease his product with a new license with pay only version and he is offering refunds to folks who previously purchased it.
That being said, CCSWE the new version works fine with Android 11 as of the current beta.

Just to you all know that Package Disabler Pro is back in the game.
It took 38 minutes between my request for support and the successful reply with download link and new license code.
Hope you guys enjoy.

Hi Kdio,
Tell me please, how can I get that app and if is working without root.
I have Note 20 Ultra 5G Snapdragon version and it seems close to impossible to root this model, even though I had rooted all my previous versions and hate this bloatware.
I noticed the phone sending quite frequent notifications with hidden content and I can't do anything to stop it. It's so frustrating to have no full control over your expensive phone.

I feel you. It drives me bonkers every time I get a random t-mobile carrier services hidden content notification since the android 11 update. I removed that app from day 1 and wiped my cache but it still pops up now and then. Short of resetting the phone I don't know what else to do..

Many thanks for the reply dj24, please let me know how did you remove that app. And maybe how can I remove many others, which I never asked for. I have noticed that there is a service: facebook installer. Are you kidding me? On my own phone !
It's like I'm buying a new car with banners all over it and having to transport people who I don't know. All the time!!! Is that the respect we're getting for our hard earned money?

Much appreciated Kdio,
Will give it a try and hope it works. Really, it's touching to see how a small community as XDA is getting together for fixing the problems and offer freedom of choice to the end users, when this should have been done by the greedy manufacturer in the first place.
Thanks and hat off.
Ladies and gents, as our friend here Kdio has shared his knowledge with us, indeed I can confirm after two days of usage that the Package Disabler Pro version for Samsung (mine is Note 20 SM -N986U), is working fine. It disabled for me many bloatwares, even though some of them are stubborn, like carrier hub, which has to be disabled from the settings as well. However, overall is one of the best option for a non-rooted phone. I paid a small amount (about $5) for the app and received the pro key within minutes. If anyone here has better options, will be glad to know them. .https://packagedisabler.myshopify.com/collections/frontpage/products/package-disabler-ultimate

Started using this a couple days ago after the idiot with CCSWE lost his license again and yes it will work on all services.
The cheap way is using the ADB method from TK at xda @youtube same old commands.
I know, it's tedious, as apps might be reinstalled on updates, that's the issue with this and package disable app.

You're right it is cheaper but you can't enable and disable on the fly when your away from a PC! I have several root apps on my Note 20 Ultra that just need a couple adb commands to make them work. Been using adb since the T-Mobile G1, the only limitation is it can't be done on the fly.
