Is it possible to run a custom Kernel Without installing magisk? I love all the features I get with a custom Kernel in terms of performance and such but I've been using magisk off and on since OOS 9.5.3 and every time I flashed magisk and started using it the stability of the phone drastically decreased, random app crashes and random glitches here and there that I could never explain. So I'm wondering if it's possible to use a custom kernel without root
No

Yes you can. U will need just twrp , flash kernel and you are good to go. You should use kernels which are "flash and forgett" . You will just not be able to use all tweaks in apps like ex kernel manger or franco kernel app.

Welcome. You don't even need to install twrp if you want to leave the stock recovery, just boot twrp.img , flash kernel and reboot.

That is correct.
No need to root to run a custom kernel. I like ElementalX.
It also hide the bootloader unlock state.
I accidentally installed custom kernel without rooting on oxygen os op7 port can i flash magsic after this to get root access any problems?

You might want to try going to the remi note 9 forum if there is one and ask there. I myself always use a app called Ex Kernal Manager to flash kernels that way you can make a back up of the old one and reflash back in case things don't work out. I have never used twrp to flash a kernel but I would imagine the commands would be the same
Fastboot boot twrp.img
Once your in TWRP find the adb sideload toggle, activate then enter
Adb sideload Kernal.zip
Maybe some one that has tried using TWRP to flash kernels will help . Good luck

Hello I am also looking a custom kernels, without root.
My question is: Can a custom kernel with a unrooted device, with no (kernel) app and no root access provide any benefits, such as better battery life? I am using a lineage os and using the kernel provided.
Thank you, I look forward to your response.

When using WugFresh it says it flashes a custom kernel in order to root, is this pretty normal? I like to run as stock as possible, so I don't want a different kernel, just stock 5.0 and root with TWRP, what are my options here for that? Thanks!

I have not personally tried this.
Maybe I'm just not following but I'm trying to get SuperSU and TWRP on my phone without any kernel modifications, not sure how that app helps? Thanks!

You can't. You MUST modify the kernel.
You either:
1) Modify with chain fire to allow root at boot
2) flash permissive kernel for SElinux permissions
3) PIE patch
After the process put the mobile in Bootloader menu and then type in the fastboot command
fastboot flash boot boot.img
this is flash the stock kernel for you.

It does not work. I've tryed every version from 13 to 13.3 half way thru the flash it just jumps out of recovery and boots by its self. It doesn't bootloop or hurt anything I can tell but it just doesn't install. Ever heard of that?

You need to be on firmware B182+ (which you are)
You need to have twrp 3.1.0+
You need to flash stock boot image before Magisk.
You can get stock boot either from rom zip (boot.img) or stock firmware (update.app) and extract boot using Huawei Update extractor. Then flash boot image manually.
can i do that ?
Yes You Can!
Yes. Just backup the boot partition before you flash a custom kernel in TWRP.

The kennels can be flashed while system is running because it's a different partition and when it flashes, it keeps TWRP and magisk in tact.

Have you asked Franco if this is possible? You can flash kernels while booted, so I don't see a reason you couldn't also flash recovery. The kernel, recovery, and magisk are all in the boot partition together.
However, I have no idea if the kernel flashers (EXKM can also do it) can flash a full boot.img properly.

why would you install boot.img from some site that may or may not be for our phone.
you could just reinstall stock boot or choose custom kernel from the forms here and get something that works like
cleanslate https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/development/kernel-cleanslate-v1-7-0-oo-t3797668
elementalx https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/development/kernel-elementalx-op6-1-00-t3799054

these are some of the custom kernels for our OP 6.

The reason we ask about boot.Img is b/c flashing magisk would have patched your boot.img. The only reason for flashing boot is for custom kernels.

Everyone else here know that the reason for the boot loop is b/c you flashed an older boot.img then the system was expecting. What we are trying to say is if you did not flash that boot.img in the first place, This problem never would have happened.
