I've been having trouble connecting my A8 via OTG for some time. I have a Syntec USB-C to USB adaptor, which allows me to plug usb to the phone via OTG. However, this doesn't work any more (it did originally).
Sometimes when I plug in a device, the phone flashes device connected / device disconnected, sometimes it says usb charging, sometimes it doesn't do anything. I've tested the adaptors connecting them to the thunderbolt port on my desktop, and they work perfectly.
I've also tested the adaptor by using it with a USB-C to usb-a cable to connect the phone to my computer. When the adaptor is on the phone end, it doesn't do anything, when it is on the computer end it works perfectly.
Is there something I can reset or change on my phone to get this working?? It's driving me crazy.
Thanks,
Nick

OK so here is my problem: every time I connect a USB via the micro USB port the device doesn't detect the USB. However sometimes if i am lucky I only need to twist the cable and it works shortly. Probably the cable is destroyed, anyone know if I need exactly this cable or if I could also use a normal micro USB adapter cable. Thank you.

Well, I'm a bit confused, as the 70x has actually 2 cables.
1. The USB cable that connects to a PC
2. The USB dongle adapter that has a full size USB connector (female) for connecting flash sticks for example.
Regardless, as in number 1, you can't use just any micro USB cable, like the one that comes with a camera for example. You might, but then again, the data connections may be wrong. Best thing is to try. Typically I use my HTC cable. Regardless, you won't damage anything by trying.
As in number 2, well, it may be hit and miss if you get a generic one. The + and - pin layout should be the same, but the data might be different. The only way is to check.
When you twist your cable, make sure it's not actually twisting the connector (micro). This may give false readings, when in fact it could be a damaged micro USB port on the Tab. So check it good.

ok thanx. found a working cable.
Hello. I have a TF101 B60 model. It fails booting to recovery. I can not get it to talk to my WIN7, Mint15, WINXP PCs via USB. It does not get recognized by any. I replaced the USB connector, but that did not help. However; I purchased an ASUS USB adapter that plugs into the tablet and has a full size USB port. I can connect a USB thumb drive, serial port adapter and lan adapter to this USB adapter and the tablet will recognize all of them and work flawlessly. This is the part that confuses me. I have three cables. The original and two I got from ebay. None of these cable work connecting to a PC with Linux or WINDOWS. I can not boot into APX mode. I have spent hours looking a posts and most are fixed by replacing the cable. I have to believe the USB part works because of the adapter works with USB devices.
Any ideas on fixing this or on how to flash a new ROM. I am at .27 now. I can't root or flash withour USB?! I have not seen this as successful even using adb. You still need a rooted tablet. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

Unfortunately, if you cannot connect using the USB charging cable you will not be able to root. Many of us have tried to find a way to root using the tablet itself. It is not possible.
The USB host adapter may be using different pins than the actual USB charging cable so there could be a bad pin in the tablet connector that is causing an issue with the USB SLAVE when connecting to a PC. Not sure the best way to diagnose this other than try your cable with another Transformer (could be TF201, 300, 700 or 701) to see if it is recognized by your PC and cable.
I have an AT&T Z998 phone running Android 4.1.2 that is rooted. I bought an OTG cord and nothing I plug into it will detect. Running an app called USB Host Diagnostics told me that the Android API supports it but does not detect the device.
I plugged the cord into someone else's phone and connected it to a male to male connector to plug it into my computer to see if it detects it. It detected it and started charging the phone, so I know the cord is not defective, but other devices such as a mouse, keyboard and flash drive are not detected (also, my computer doesn't detect my phone).
I've also tried it with a Galaxy Tab 2 7" tablet and my computer detected it but would not charge.
TL;DR - Device not detected with OTG cord but has manufacturer support for OTG.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

How do I fix my otg issue? It connects but says charging connected device. Even with a ps4 controller at 100%. When I go to tick the option to switch it acts like it does then it goes back to saying charging device. I'm on stock rooted and tried this on all the current roms.
Hello,
I have had a good time using a usb c stick with exFAT to transfer files to and forth from my s8+. In the holidays I had water over the device and after the usb liquid issue. After some days it went away but now no stick , be it my usb c one or others with the OTG connector , is connecting.
Problem is that through cable phone connects to the PC ( although slower than usual ). Also charging first detects a fast charge through original charger and in 2 seconds drops to normal charging. For a while I have reset the device with the stick connected and it got read but after unplugging direct or unmount would
not reappear at a second plug.
Any ideas , this is driving me crazy ( even did a full reset to no avail ).
hI everyone in regard to otg using Usb and charging tablet at same time, I have a fusion5 tablet and a usb hub the kind with 3 usb hubs and a power in with a micro usb male plug. and a switch for otg or charge. Ive tried using a potentiometer to find the magic resistor value between pin 4 (the id ) and pin 5 ground of the micro plug.
(thought i had it at one point but not sure) as could play a avi file while charging) However now most of the timee either accesses the usb or charges, I can get it to do both , but stops charging after 8 seconds.
Anybody happen to know if a specific resistance value works for both charging and otg.
I have seen another schematic but havent tried it.
It doesn't sound like the micro usb otg cable to me. I built one without a resistor and mine works just fine. Have a look at your usb settings. Some devices require you select your choice: usb otg or charging.

Thanks How do I look at my usb settings?. I think I may not have the proper resistor setting as will currently provide power to usb and charge at same time for a few seconds then stops charging.. I turn resistance up it will charge , turn it down and will allow access to usb.. i think have to find that magic number inbetween.

Depending on which phone and version of Android you have, the most recent versions of Android have the USB settings under Developers Options.
The USB OTG charging works differently from phone to phone. Sometimes you must plug your charger cable and the USB device you want to connect to into the OTG cable prior to plugging the OTG cable into your phone. This way the phone detects charging and device.

Yes that is what I have been doing . In developer options under Usb default , no charge option there, only file transfer, USB tEThering, MID, PTP ,and o data transfer
I thanks. However i believe the default USB option is charge as thats what it is when i plug in USB to a powered cable.
. As I said jt works for A short time using USB and charging at same time with resistor between 45K and 68k
then either stops charging and continues usb or keeps charging but gives usb errrors or cant access usb but continues charging.
Fusion5 tablet android 9
Update this works fine with unmodified USB hub or charge power and USB on my LG k32 phone but not on the fusion ta blet.
