Hey guys, I've been searching for a while and tried many many launcher but I'm really struggling to find one that gives proper unread counts. By that I mean the number of unread emails and not the number of unread notifications.
I really can't understand why Google changed this but it makes no sense to me.
Anyone able to suggest a luncher or add on that works?

None exist. Apps can only read the notification count now.

Evie launcher had that option. And Nova launcher combined with Tesla Intrad, but that only works with Nova Launcher Prime

Would like the count unread app be able to pick your own icon, unlike the sms and gmail apps.
Still looking for a app that does this, anybody had any luck?
Waiting to see
HTC Sense has one built-in, but other than that, the only one I've ever found is the '1x1 Ultimate Unread Widget' and it costs $1 and requires root.
I've been searching for a far more customizable solution to no avail...

Cheers for the reply, but reading the reviews for 1x1 Ultimate Unread Widget i think i will give it a miss, but thats the basic grouds of what i am looking for, just have to wait and see if someone else finds one
SMS Unread Count also includes 1x1 widgets for email and is free. I used to use it for Gmail. On LPP so unread is now in the dock.

Yeah i know you can do it for gmail, but i'm looking to link another e-mail account sms unread count cant do this, and i would like to add my own icon, you can only pick from a few when you use this app.
I've noticed that there is no unread message count on the Google Hangouts and stock email app icon. Any way to get this? Or do I have to use a different app.
I'm having the same problem. No unread count on gmail or hangouts. No LED notification either.
I don't recall the there ever being unread counts in stock android. Have to use third party launcher like Nova.

Notifyer+ should work. Issues with it is i don't think it lines up with the new Google Experience Launcher yet. If you are using another launcher you can adjust the height and size of the icon and title to try and match the others on the screen. Works great on most launchers, but haven't tried it on the N5 yet.
So have been using nova launcher with tesla unread. Nova launcher isnt fully ready for kitkat so have just been using stock launcher on my N5. I really miss having an unread count by gmail and now since hangouts is used for texts I would like an unread count there too.
I tried "missed it!" with no luck... unsure on what else might be kitkat compatible.
If someone could give me some suggestions I would appreciate it.

Same here, was just about to start the very same thread lol
I would like to get nice clear notifications on my icon for things like Facebook, Hangouts, individual email accounts, missed calls etc.
Not found anything that really works.
Hi All,
My very first post on XDA forums, i have used these forums for great help in the past.
I'm a little stumped at the moment, i am using Dodol Launcher on my Nexus 5 with Lollipop OS, i'm about 90% happy with the whole launcher, just need to know if there's any good notification badge applications out there for Ebay? so when i get notifications in Ebay, the badge app icon with notification count comes up on the homescreen icon? An app which lets me select which apps show homescreen unread badge counts on the icon would be perfect!
Also, is there a good email app which supports multiple email accounts (Gmail, Yahoo etc) all in one, and will combine the unread messages as a badge app count on the homescreen icon?
Any suggestions would help, please don't mention another launcher as i'm quite happy with Dodol at thei stage.
Thanks!
The email app you need is my mail. I use it and it is superb. Takes all accounts plus you get an email account from them which just uses your phone no as a pass word so can only be used on your phone. Makes for really good names. As you put say your name then its just @MY.com. I've Gmail Hotmail etc on it and it takes nova notification badges

I've been using Nova Launcher Prime as my Launcher for years. I've always had issues with Unread badge counts but never posted. I use the built in TeslaUnread for Unread counts. Most of my apps behave accordingly, not all, but most.
The one annoyance I'm having right now is Outlook. I have 2 Outlook apps installed, one from the play store and and internal build. The internal build shows the Unread counts fine. The play store doesn't show any Unread counts. The one from the play store is also the defaulted app in TeslaUnread, the internal build I have is lower in the additional apps section.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve it? I'd also try using MissedIt Unread counts, but I have no idea how to configure that. I've always had issues with that provider.
