How to fix "Google Service Framework lacks android.permission.MANAGE_USERS" problem
Hi,
I am trying to install Google Service Framework and Google Apps on Mate 30 Pro following instructions in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ma...o-install-google-t3979091/page21#post80789091
And I failed to login the Google Play Store after following the steps that other users have had proved working. I traced the log and found it might be due to this error:
AndroidRuntime: Process: com.google.process.gapps, PID: 13709
AndroidRuntime: java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to get provider com.google.android.gsf.settings.GoogleSettingsProv ider: java.lang.SecurityException: You need MANAGE_USERS permission to: get the profile parent
AndroidRuntime: at com.google.android.gsf.settings.GoogleSettingsProv ider.onCreate(GoogleSettingsProvider.java:158)

Click to collapse
It seems Google Service Framework(gsf) needs this permission: MANAGE_USERS.
I have tried
Code:
adb shell pm grant com.google.android.gsf android.permission.MANAGE_USERS
to enable this permission for it, but it failed:
Security exception: Permission android.permission.MANAGE_USERS requested by com.google.android.gsf is not a changeable permission type

Any help or suggestion? Thanks.

Link2SD problem!! - see Logcat

Hello !!
I installed Link2SD on my Acer liquid E (running LiquidNext 1.9.2).
linked 5 apps.
But after rebooting, Titanium autmoatically crashes, as well as other apps!!
I could not understand what the problem is !
could you please help me ?
Logcat attached
Firstly, I would actually like to thank you on taking the efforts on getting a logcat...
Loads of members nowadays think that their problem is our problem, and hence don't put in efforts in even explaining...
On the other hand, you actually did a good thing :good:
Even though I'm not too knowledgeable on such technical stuff, I did go through your logcat (for the simple reason that you took efforts in attaching it in the first place)...
I've (hopefully) identified the problem areas:

(I've put in dots .... to just state that there isn't any error there)
From what I've seen, I believe that your partition (since you are using link2sd) isn't formatted properly (or mounted)...and titanium was linked to your partition (am I right?)
Do your system apps also force close?
There's an error with the status bar...
And ya, because of that logcat, I hope we see more of such members in the future
I agree. I am thinking that your partitions are not set up correctly. IIRC from when I used Link2Sd, you had to have 1-Fat32 for normal stuff and 1-Fat32 for the apps to link too. In older versions it was Fat32, Ext2/3 and the Swap.
When you installed Link2Sd, and it checked for partitions, did it throw any errors? Does your ROM support Link2SD? I'll look around at it some more but A.cid asked for some help.
Thank you both guys for replying in such a kind way: i appreciate!
I am running this MOD: LiquidNext (latest version 1.9.2)
forum thread about the rom here
It seems to be possible to run link2SD on the above ROM.
Other apps crash as well, but I honestly can't recall whether they were system apps or not.
I have now resetted everything:
I have wiped everything, both internal and external memories (8GB SDcard).
I have formatted the sd card from the CWM Recovery (touch): EXT3 1024 MB, Swap: 0 MB, FAT32 remaining space.
I have flashed the same rom again, and haven't yet installed link2sd and Titanium.
so far everything is running smoothly, but I want to understand what's wrong when I install link2sd!
I have been running it smoothly in the past on the same ROM => then something mysterious happened
hope you guys are better than me and can find the culprit !!
Corrupt partition. Removing the link2sd script from init.d will be a temporary fix. You need to reformat your ext partition!

already done !!

Hey, I know that this isn't your device but there may be somethings in this trhead that will help you troubleshoot, like kernel modules and proper partition setup. This was my first Android device so you might see a post or two in there from me way back when.

This looks great for start up ROM devs
You can either find a good or a free. Almost impossible to find both. Let alone one that will handle that kind of traffic reliably.

That's strange, on my N5 and G2 all works without issue, anyway I'll change some lines of code and upload a new version. As I see, seems there are problems with build.prop file permissions. (Usually these are rwxr-xr-x and all works)

build.prop should never be any other mode then 644. on legacy roms setting build.prop to 755 may cause bootloop (because of primitive system), I have had this on my old phone (i9001)

i know. You'll probably get error when the file is 700 (rwx------). With 644 (rw-r--r--) | 744 (rwxr--r--) and 755(rwxr-xr-x) App works without issues (already tested).
I prefer avoid the use of su to read build.prop file because will cause the prompt of annoying toasts telling you "garanted superuser permissions". I can also copy the build.prop to the app files dir, but in case you change something in the prop the app will not recognize it.
I don't have devices with internal and external SDcard, so, try to use /mnt/extsd or whatever the path is instead of /data/media
EDIT:
You can also make a simple init.d script that changes permissions, or check your updater-script and change the permissions setting here
EDIT2:

You mean by hardcoding build.prop strings inside the app?

great work confirm that
v1.1 works now with SUpermissions when you try to flash a zip via recovery.
only thing left is that it dont read the build.prop and FC's
rwx---- permission :silly: all others like rw-r-r work fine
edit: question: why not use a manifest.xml in /system/ folder? its similar to the build.prop lines but then it dont matter what permission the build.prop has...
just an idea

Rwx------ equals 700 and only root can read write and execute. So it's normal that app FC's when it tries to read the file: it doesn't have permissions
Just change file permissions to rwxr--r-- (744) or rw-r--r-- (644) and the app will not Force close. Check other files in /system, I doubt they all have 700 permission.
You can also try to make a simple init.d script that changes build.prop permissions (busybox chmod 644 /system/build.prop)

[FIX] Fix crashing setup wizard

For those who have a force closing/crash on first boot (setup wizard) because of GAPPS, have just to enable wifi manually via ADB.

Okay...I must be missing something basic:
Code:
X:\>adb devices
List of devices attached
X:\>adb shell svc wifi enable
error: no devices/emulators found
of course, because no devices listed from "abd devices", since I don't have USB debugging enabled.
Can you provide another hint?

Check both answers one is how to enable it, second is about authorization. It worth trying.

Question How to disable com.qualcomm.location without BOOTLOOP ?

I want to disable all location services. After disabling com.qualcomm.location and com.android.location.fused I got a bootloop.
Has anyone disabled these services without a bootloop?
You can try yo instead disable the services that run within each of those and block all network access, i.e both foreground and background data along with location access to each.
Spoofing location with Xprivacy may anyway be the cleanest approach and will allow you to temporarily and selectively permit location access to apps in case you need it for a short moment.

I tried disabling service - FusedLocationService, but after that I still get the bootloop

What program can I use to do this? Permission managers (e.g. AppOps, PermissionManader X) for applications do not have this feature. Even after granting ROOT rights

I have never used and will never use location services. I don't need it at all.

Re: I tried disabling service - FusedLocationService, but after that I still get the bootloop
- I mean the services within the service. For instance I can see Fused Location runs one service called .FusedLocationService within the app. Qualcom Location Service seems to have 3 underlying services IZAT. Network Location and Location Service of which 2 seem to be runing in the background. The idea is to disable all the Activities and Services within the apps. It may still crash something but you can give it a try if you really want to disable these as much as ever possible without bootloop. Remember Backups before experimenting.
Re: What program can I use to do this?
- My go to app is "App Manager" available on F-Droid or Github. It's freeware. Highly recommended. Root is required.
Re: I have never used and will never use location services. I don't need it at all.
- Disabling as much as you can and shielding location with LSPosed/Xprivacy in my opinion is still the cleanest way forward and will fully spoof and block access to your location, if privacy is your concern.
If the goal is performance improvement, Qualcom Location and Fused Location services have almost zero footprint on performance/memory/battery when location is not in use, there is almost no win at all knocking them out...

That's I meant. At first I disabled the FusedLocation package, but I got a bootloop. After that, I tried disabling this service .FusedLocationService inside package FusedLocation using the MyAndroidTools app and also with ADB. But after that I also get a bootloop.
By the way, the .FusedLocationService shows up as working. That is, this service always works regardless of the OS settings.
Maybe you can suggest me a way to "kill" the service if I provide you a logcat.

Sorry I don't know a way to kill it (nor do I see a real need for doing it ). It looks like fused location service is apparently invoked during the startup sequence. When missing, it causes an exception leading to the bootloop you experience.
