Update firmware without lose any data. - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

hello guys!
I have a SM-G950FD (ZTO) rooted by magisk and TWRP recovery.
I need to perform updates by flash a zip or donwload via odin.
The problem is: when I try to update a firmware downloaded on Sammobile (tar.md5) via Odin it changes my recovery causing to lose all data.
This happen because on firmware that I donwload on Sammobile have a stock recovey included. Otherwise, if I use HOME_CSC will also cause lose data because of change on recovery.
I try a lot of things like, remove recovery file from the tar.md5, also try use Abyssal Kitchen, but I can't have sucess.
I ask for help plz! I just need upgrade my firmware without lose data by flash a update.zip or donwload a .tar via Odin using a firmware that I donwload from Sammobile.
Kind regards!

[Q] How to keep ROM and recovery stock, but be rooted?

Hi,
I have a P3113.
I want to be able to receive the OTA updates from Samsung, but their OTA update process invokes a reboot into their stock recovery to complete the update. So, if I replace the stock recovery, the official OTA updates wont be able to complete.
But the only way I have seen to "root" a stock ROM was to first replace the stock recovery with CWM recovery, which is need to install a Zip file that does the actual root.
But, once I replace the stock recovery, I will no longer be able to do official OTA updates because they require a stock recovery.
So, what can I do to have a stock ROM and Recovery on my tab, but also be rooted?
If you have the mobile odin pro (paid) and managed to flash stock firmware (the updated one) that you downloaded from www.samfirmware.com (register first) then you will be able to retain root after flashing if you checked the everroot option in mobile odin pro
Or receive the latest firmware via kies then you could root it afterwards ( root the updated firmware)
Or flash the updated firmware from samfirmware via odin pc 1.85 and then root again as usual
As i know no flashable zip to flash to give you the stock recovery
I suggest update via pc odin and forgetting about update via kies
If anytime you want to use kies for update, you could flash first stock firmware via pc odin then update or flash the updated firmware directly then root

Thanks for the info - very helpful.
So am I correct in my understanding here, I can flash stock with mobile Odin, keep my root have stock recovery and then be able to get ota updates without a problem (or use kies to get the update, either way is fine by me).
If I am correct I love you all more and more everyday I come here
Just trying to confirm my understanding

So this is kind of a bump since I am trying to understand if I am correct here. I am still new to all this and want to learn things.
If I use Mobile Odin Pro to flash stock firmware with EverRoot on my P3113, then I can still receive normal updates either via OTA or Kies (which is preferred?). This will keep stock recovery, for the updates, and preserve my root so I can enjoy the benefits.
Does this plan run the risk of bricking on updating? Due to the fact that it is rooted, I thought you can NOT do a regular update (or was that just because of CWM being the recovery?).
What happens when Jelly Bean goes to roll out, will this brick the device since it is a whole new OS? Will this break root and I will need to re-root?
Just trying to understand everything before I make a decision on how I proceed with my device from here. I have never used Mobile Odin, and this is my first rooted device, so I apologize for my questions, but how else will I learn?
Thanks for your time, and your help, and as I said I love you all more and more each time I come around here, since I usually learn something new
Root link

Downgrading 920F from 6.0 back to 5.1.1

Hello. I've been using android 6.0 for a while now, but I'm not very fond of it, and I'd like to downgrade back to 5.1.1 stock so I can root and install custom Roms.
I've searched and found nothing, so how do I it?
Downloading UK 920F firmware gives me a zip file with 5 different files. Are there any particular order I must flash them with odin?
what are the files?
AP_G920FXXU3COI9_CL5816106_QB6438203_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
BL_G920FXXU3COI9_CL5816106_QB6438203_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
CP_G920FXXU3COI9_CL5816106_QB6438203_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
CSC_BTU_G920FBTU3COJ1_CL5868306_QB6555338_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
So, 4 files.
I just want to get back to 5.1.1 so I can root and install xtrestolite without any problems.
thats how i did it
try downloading this zip
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/confirm/62892/G920FXXU3QOLD_G920FTEF3QOL1_VIA
extract it and flash the .tar.md5 over odin (AP)
reboot to downloadmode and flash the twrp recovery
boot into recovery
(backup optional)
wipe dalvik cache, cache, and data
now flash the xtrestolite in the recovery and reboot
But I need to flash bootloader and modem also, since I was on 6.0?
no i think that's all included in the .tar.md5
How do I know that the version you linked me is the right one for me?
you have an sm-g920f ?
Yes, unbranded.
so i'm no developer but i have the same device and i did it in the same way so why shouldn't it work?
Did you downgrade from 6.0 aswell?
Want to give an update:
The best way to do this is using Samsung Smart Switch and following the instructions when plugging in the phone.
Problem solved.

Now I am on 6.0.1 beta. Does this trip the KNOX counter? I must downgrade to 5.1.1 to claim warranty
you dont need to flash 5 files. Just flash OI9 BL,and then flash 2.8.7.1 twrp. then flash 5.1.1 custom rom

j700T lates update

Anyone have the odin of the latest factory rom or a zip for twrp? Of course the phone knows there is one there but the naughty owner of the phone isn't stock......
you can get the latest stock samsung (any model) ROM on updato.com (no restrictions, no accounts, totally free), however, the google apps will need to update themselves.
Does it have to be done through Odin or can it be done through twrp?
sent from my Samsung wonder device
.zip : TWRP
.tar.md5 : Odin
EDIT: that's not actually true. but, updato.com ROMs are flashable via rocovery such as TWRP.
Sitting right here.

Trying to Unroot g930aucs4bql1 via Odin

Hello,
During an attempt to recover data on the phone after a factory reset mishap, the phone was rooted by a 3rd party program.
I wanted to do a fresh install of the stock firmware but I keep getting a fail message via Odin when trying to flash the firmware from the Unroot forum.
As posted in the title the current firmware is from the December update and I cannot for the life of me find a download for it. Am I missing something obvious here ?
If your goal is a fresh start on stock firmware, don't use any customised unroot firmware files.
Just go to sammobile.com or updato.com and download the correct stock firmware for your model, and flash all 4 firmware files (CP, CSC, AP, BL).
Flashing stock firmware via Odin will undo root, there's no need to use specific unroot firmware.

Sorry for hijacking the thread but I've a question that is somewhat connected to the OP's one.
Will flashing stock firmware with Odin check my void_warranty flag? I f***ed up and my S7 constantly talks that unauthorized actions have been detected.
Stock firmware via Odin will not trip knox or any warranty flags

Flash via odin

So, I am on CRAP firmware flashed, with the guide here on XDA. Now I see that there is a firmware named CRB7. I downloaded the firmware from Sammobile and tried to flash it with latest Odin but it stuck in Setup Connection. What I did wrong?
