Hello,
my Dad has a Nexus 5 from Google Play. The phone wasn't and isn't rooted/unlocked. All updates are installed when they come "over the air" to the phone. So the Lollipop OTA update comes and he let it install on the phone but the update didn't work. During the system check it says "/system/lib/libnfc_nci_jni.so has unexpected contents" and "Status 7" and "Error in /tmp/update.zip". But this could not be. It's all stock and nothing is changed on the phone (no root, unlocked).
So I tried to fastboot sideload the OTA update. But this gives me the same error.
The phone data:
Android-Version: 4.4.4
Baseband: M8974-A-2.0.50.1.16
Kernel: 3.4.0-gd59db4e
Build-Version: KTU84P
I used the "5.0 LRX21O-from-4.4.4 KTU84P" OTA file from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/info-nexus-5-ota-help-desk-t2523217
What's wrong? How can this file have been changed without root? Or is the system check wrong? Can I somehow fix this without unlocking the phone (loosing the data would be only the last option if nothing else works)?
Thanks

As per the error, '/system/lib/libnfc_nci_jni.so' isn't the stock file so it's been changed somehow or is corrupt. That or the OTA file is corrupt so double-check the md5 and try again
Thanks for your answer. But how can a file be changed or get corrupt if there is no acccess to it for the user? But let's go this way ... the file is changed or corrupt. How can I fix this?
I read that flashing the 4.4.4 system.img could possibly fix this problem. But flashing a *.img with fastboot works only with a unlocked bootloader.
Would this way work to boot into TWRP with a locked bootloader?
fastboot boot recovery.img

So maybe booting into TWRP with this fastboot command and then flashing the 4.4.4 system.img. But I don't know if this will work.
Or is there a way to replace a system file with fastboot or adb when the bootloader is locked?
I won't have access to the phone until monday so I'm collecting all possible solutions.
Hey Guys,
My N5 is currently running android 5.1 and I want to upgrade to 5.1.1. My phone also shows that the OTA update is available but I am currently rooted and running TWRP. A quick google research showed me that I can´t install an OTA update while being on TWRP. Is there any other way to update my phone to 5.1.1 without losing my data?
Greets
I have this exact same question. I was going to try and use fastboot with the system image and recovery and then take the ota update. Not sure if that will work.
I got impatient, so i downloaded the factory image from the web for the version of my phone (lmy47d). I extracted the system.img and recovery.img and flashed them with fastboot as stated here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...orial-applying-ota-update-stock-root-t2976556
Rebooted the phone and then applied the OTA update. Phone is updating the apps after boot. So far seems ok.
Thank you I will try it out later
You don't lose data by default? At least not for me
I bought a Nexus 5 (refurbished) from Freedom Pop. I can't remember what version is came with, maybe 4.4.4. First thing I did with it was install CWM (6.0.4.7) and flash the Google Nexus 5 factory image (5.1.1 / LMY48B) and root the device. Now that LMY48I is out, I got a OTA notification about a system update. When I try to do the OTA update, it fails. So I downloaded the update zip to take LMY48B->LMY48I from http://www.droid-life.com/2015/08/10/download-nexus-4-5-6-7-9-10-ota-stagefright-patches/ . I boot into CWM and install zip, but it fails with:
Package expects build fingerprint of google/hammerhead/hammerhead:5.1.1/LMY48B/1863243:user/release-keys; this device has google/hammerhead/hammerhead:4.4.2/KOT49H/937116 Instllation aborted.
When I go to Settings, System, it shows I have LMY48B. Why does the install think I have KOT49H? When I flashed the factory image it did it not update some file somewhere and if so, how can I get that file to accurately report what I'm running?
Thanks,

You must return to stock before you attempt to install that zip. That means you cannot be rooted or have custom recovery in place
I've got a stock N5 I bought from Google on LMY48B and there's still no update for me.
Does anyone know what the roll-out timeline is for the LMY48I?
When should I conclude that I'm not going to get it OTA and resign myself to factory wipe and flashing the image?
I have a stock Nexus 5, rooted w/ cf-auto-root, re-locked , no custom recovery or bootloaders, and all i see is Error when trying to install this OTA. I'm stuck at the moment myself. Installing the OTA should just unroot my phone, but it won't install. Currently running on 5.1.1 (LMY48B) myself.

Mine is stock, un-rooted, but I too keep getting an Error when trying to install the OTA. Stuck on LMY48B at the moment.

I have the same problem her as well with my nexus 5 it keeps saying error with little droid I've tried side loading manually but it didn't work also tried hard reset and wiping cache but nothing solved the problem so i just figured out the problem is the package it self
Same problem here
Same thing here, error with little droid picture on rooted android 5.1.1.
Has anyone found the reason for this ?
Try flashing system image directly

This method is for anyone with lmy48b that's rooted or has a radio, kernel or recovery custom flashed.
Condensed version but here's the important pieces. You will lose root if you are unrooted. You will not lose any data or settings if done this way.
Step 1. Download lmy48b from google
Step 2. Unzip lmy48b package
Step 3. Copy bootloader, radio and system.img from lmy48b package (unzip zipped file for bootloader and system.img)
Step 4. Connect phone and boot into bootloader
Step 5. Type in fastboot flash recovery [recovery].img replace [recovery] with the actual file name
Step 6. Type in fastboot flash radio [radio].img
Step 7. Type in fastboot flash system [system].img
Step 8. Reboot
Step 9. Update via OTA
Working - confirmed

Thanks, confirmed that this method worked. Managed to update my rooted nexus 5 to LMY48I
Tried to install ota update after reverting to stock recovery using Simple Recovery Switcher app. However, also the error message, with little Android picture also appears. Please help
I assume this removed your root, though.
It seems we are getting a new factory image en september to properly solve the stagefright bug
"A second patch has been sent out. "We’ve already sent the fix to our partners to protect users, and Nexus 4/5/6/7/9/10 and Nexus Player will get the OTA update in the September monthly security update"
I have decided i will stay at 5.1.1 untill Android M maybe september also. In the meanwhile i have disabled MmsService and OTA.

I'm with you, not going to try to flash these things, there are a few zip files out there dated a couple days ago, apparently the zips aren't tested prior to release since everyone is getting failure when flashing the zip file.
Is there really no method to apply OTA updates on rooted/modified devices (e.g. modify the update.zip itself to bypass whatever checks it performs)?
Same problem here- only had a custom recovery and root. brought back the stock recovery and did full unroot from SuperSu.
OTA update installtion stops with "Error".
Just flash the system image from the update.

Thanks, I ended up doing this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62288667&postcount=196
(flashing stock system, boot and recovery from my current version, letting OTA update install and re-rooting according to http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...ide-nexus-5-how-to-unlock-bootloader-t2507905)
I guess i could have flashed the new version just the same.
Hey guys, my OnePlus One is great but my dad's has the modem issue where 4G just switches off periodically and only thing to get it working is to reboot. Tried every fix under the sun and hoping this update will fix, but probably not. We tried flashing Oxygen modem files as he had no issues on that OS but this changed nothing, other than seemingly not allowing us to do the OTA (assuming that that's what's stopping us, read on here that you can't have any system file changes like that if you want to do OTA's). Here's what happens when I try both these methods:
Update from about phone > system update: boots, says "installing system update" and then "error"
Update from stock recovery: "installing system update" then
Verifying current system
System partition has unexpected contents
E: failed to install /sideload/package.zip
All we want at the moment is to get OTA's working seamlessly, can get the radio stuff fixed later.
Can I reflash the cyanogenos radio files and then the OTA will work? Can we flash the system image from the full new ZIP from the cyanogenos site? Want updates to work. Thanks!
Edit: currently travelling and would prefer not to wipe but will if necessary.
Edit: after receiving no replies I flashed the system.img of the new update after finding info that this will update without wiping.
Hi everybody, i am currently running OxygenOS 5.1.0 and i am trying to update to latest version.
1. I tried with local update inside settings but nothing the message is: unable to install system update
2. I tried unlocking bootloader, installing TWRP and trying to install update via TWRP but i get stuck in Error7, seems like the package is not recognized for my phone.
I rad a lot about removing assert rows inside update scripts in the .zip package. Unfortunately in my package there is no update-script and i don't know any possible way to force my installation. Do you have any suggestion?
I'd recommend to go back to full stock (lock bootloader) and then try to do all the OTA updates. It's not working for you this way?
