Hello fellow XDAers,
I am waiting for MIUI 9 to drop so we can pull that into the kitchen and cook. I am going to attempt to work with the new system, I haven't ported anything after Jellybean. So with that, I wanted to see who was on-board to potentially want to try MIUI.
Two things; One - I am not saying I am for sure going to be successful, but I will try. 2; MIUI 9 release date is expected to be end of May or early June 2017.
Feel free to have a discussion of MIUI here, I will also use this thread for small updates in regards to MIUI.
--- Small Post Update ---
MIUI 9 ?
Here is a small list of features to potentially look out for in the new version of MIUI. This is a leap forward into Nougat from MIUI 8.
Multi-window support
Quick-reply from notifications
Optimised dose mode
RAM optimization
Improved data saver
Always-on VPN
Call screening feature
Dual space feature
Dual apps
I have honestly never once run a MIUI ROM. Im not quite the flashaholic i used to be (especially now, as finicky as the v20 seems to be), but i could be game for flashing it a few times to kick the tires, see how it rolls.
Am i to understand that it does not have a home screen/app drawer for stock launcher ala iOS? it does retain androids ability to change launchers?
Is there anything "must see" on MIUI? ...not so much eye candy·· I don't care about bling so much, im all about that utility.

Hello! We have all been there with the flashaholic syndrome. It's a fortunate disease ? the V20 is a unit that is quite more finicky than most, but surely not the worst.
Initially, this will be a project starting off with the 918 and working into other variants as I relearn Android and what the new systems look like. It is a launcher that emulates that of an iOS landscape. Yes, you still have all of the ability of changing launches, etc. Must "see" would be animations, style, small 'functionality' pieces like that of the battery bar rather than a battery icon and so on.
It's more or less a eye candy piece of OS rather than something slim, although it is still smaller than a factory image. More "bloated" than a aosp rom but still functions greatly under the right environment.

I'm excited to hear that, good news for our v20 , thanks on avance bro ???
I have attempted MIUI 8 but there are too many differences in the framework(MM vs N) to patch correctly. I was going to patch 9 in once it releases but if you want it you can have it.
Last time I had miui is when i ported it to the skyrocket in the jellybean era. Would love to see it again. Back when porting ROMs was simple

Collaboration is better when its on big projects. something like miui wont need a collab. Now if you do get stuck then sure ill certainly help.
Would love to have someone seriously try to get a stable Miui going. Ran it back in my old Droid X days and really enjoyed it. Good luck and I hope you can do it.

From the skyrocket era the camera was the biggest pain in the ass. Now its everything but the camera thats a pain in the ass.
Added some minor information to OP about Miui 9 itself.
I've offered testing to me2151 and I'll offer it to you too. If you need a guinea pig for testing purposes I can help out

It's pure aosp
I tried to use it as a daily. It was pretty stable BUT the camera app sucks and you can't replace it with Gcam and there's no fingerprint reader. Apart from that everything i needed it for worked including android for work.

There is not much to see. Google how Android 11 looks and that's it. There are no extras.
I wish this was the Android experience Xiaomi offered for all their phones (of course with the bugs fixed), albeit some of their features are cool.
I was not able to install any apk outside Google Play Store for some reason, the Camera app is limited to the 64MPx and Front 20MPx, UI is not adjusted for the rounded corners so some text overflows behind that and I was not able to root the phone either. But still not bad and works fine even for a daily driver.

It just looks like AOSP (standard Android) as there is no MIUI or any other custom launcher/ui on top of that. And the appearance of that you can Google or find on YouTube etc.

okay thanks was asking that coz i have android 11 beta on pixel 2 xl and was wondering if the treble project would be compatible with my poco f2 pro or it was just a different android 11 on top of miui 12.
Hi.
I'm new to this forums.
I update my 3a to Android 12. But no any options for enable new Ui (looks like sand).
Please help me.
Thank you.
Android 12 is developing. Now we have betas, not every feature is expected to be on betas and developer previews

But that's _exactly_ what betas are supposed to be - feature complete and fixing the bugs. If they're still working on features, that's alpha code.

Android betas are like this. This feature isn't present on this beta, there are 4 betas coming in the next months. Technically the features are present but not to the public.
Hi everyone! I'm reading aboud custom rom based on Android 12 and i'd like to understand differences between ROMS for Mi Note 10 of course.
What is you favorite custom ROM and why?
thank you very much
You have 3 to choose: Octavi, Arrow or Cipher. All 3 A12-based and smooth. Octavi most customizable, but sadly development is suspended (because the main developer halted it) and uncertain if ever be resumed. Cipher and Arrow kinda similar - closer to pure Android experience, and both still maintained. All custom ROMs for tucana struggle a bit with the camera (occasional force closes or hangs). Latest Octavi and Arrow have MIUI Camera port included, but it works far from perfect

I returned to the Pixel line after several years with OnePlus, wasnt happy with the 9 pro at all. I know ROM development isn't as big as use to be to be across the board for all android devices but I remember running some sweet roms that had awesome features on my OG pixel.
How was the ROM development for those who came from the pixel 6 / 6 pro?
Sadly it's no longer what it used to be like.
6 series had 3 or 4 custom ROM and two were just secure version of aosp so no customizable

Yeah I figured that was the current trend. Hopefully we get one or two good ones to mess around with
I'm really pleased with the magisk module AOSP Mods, along with Repainter and Project Themer.
These enable many mods & themes, making stock feel like a custom rom in that sense, though without any of the potential bugs. Certainly keeping me happy until a custom rom option becomes available, but having a stable stock rom with the tweaks I'm used to is a nice setup.
Look at all the development for the Pixel 6 Pro (obviously, the Pixel 7 Pro just came out, so only one development thread so far).
+1 AOSP Mods
Pixels don't really get a lot of ROMs because there's not as much of a need. Pixels don't have a bunch of bloatware that people want to get rid of and the majority of custom ROMs for other devices are already pretend Pixels anyway using Pixel style launchers and spoofing Pixels to get their features like Call Screen besides the AOSP variants like Lineage or the privacy/security AOSP builds like Graphene and Calyx.

Development takes time and for Pixel phones that can be a while because they are the first to introduce features and standards that Google is rolling out for Android. The methods and procedures have to be updated and that adds on to the time.
The Pixel 1 was absolutely barren in the beginning, it had many underlying changes to how Android works, the ROMs you remember were all coming out towards the middle and end of the phone's life. It didn't get LineageOS official until 16 almost released, it took unofficial ports of 14 and 15 to work out the problems.
Same thing is happening again with the Pixel 6, and again with the Pixel 7. The scene was lucky that between the Pixel 3-5 there weren't that many large changes and development was rapid. Things are finally starting to pick back up for the Pixel 6 after Android 13 released, but it's still a work in progress. The Pixel 7 isn't that large of a step past the 6, however it's still going to take time to bring things over, probably a few by the end of the year and most others within 6 months.

Got it thanks. loving AOSP mods.
Because of how similar the 7 is to the 6, its actually off to a much faster start. It took a while for anything to come available for the 6, and in fact, I was the first to share a pure AOSP build for the 6pro. It took several weeks before GrapheneOS was available for the 6. It took less than ONE week for GrapheneOS to have first builds available for the 7 (go get it!).

If you use Pixel Launcher, you can look over at TeamFiles on Telegram. There's one module that allows you to select what themed icons you want to use as well. You can view some different styles below, the TeamFiles variant is close to Google's version and has 1000+ themed icons.

I don't see why it wouldn't be the same as the Pixel 4 XL Android 13 experience, but yeah. Changing the icons worked fine, I didn't try replacing my Google Search widget, but I know changing the tint of the recents background didn't work either. If it does work, then make sure to turn off 'window-level blur' in developer settings otherwise your live preview of your current app would just be a blurry mess, lol.
